Sentinel Prime With the help of the rest of the Praetorate, and by catching him off guard. And presumably before he built the robotic replicas of hinself.
Robo Trex From what I understood Calus saw potential in us guardians but invited us to the world eater to test our strength and I think he's trying to mentoring us for bigger threats because he thinks we are too weak and naive. We are not prepared to face the True Evil of the Universe and Calus see in us guardians the capability of doing so under his protection and mentoring
Somewhat since he really does show us a good time like he promised in his letter. Showed us his baths, garden and arena full of interesting fights that come with treasure. With the Sword logic I don't think so since he say's how Oryx basically made his entire people into his slaves and that Ghaul was eventually do the same.
Stephen Colbrook I think Calus can't leave his exile for now so he will use us guardians to kill the ones that betrayed him, including his own daughter. For that he is willing to share what he knows about the forces of the Universe, maybe he will help us out directly the against agents of the Darkness. I can see he as a valuable ally, but don't trust him 100%. He is an emperor and the type that seems to take he words seriously. No doubt he will aid us, but first things first: we need to get rid of his traitors
Crazy theory: so Callus says the light is Feeble and that he can empower us more. What if he's aware of the Darkness. What if the darkness is why he wants to empower us. Because he knows he can't and we won't be able to fight them. So he's protecting his own skin in a way
Carlingus Given the heavy Egyptian symbology I'm positive Calus is a representation of KEkuit. Whom is the Deity of Primordial Darkness in ancient times. Remember we learned the traveler was mechanical also. So it's the direct opposite of the light. Think Ying and Yang symbol.
I haven't seen anyone post about it but at the beginning at the raid on the bridge you can go under it and there is a room with 6 switches that need to be pulled
Byf Thank you so much for this guide. My clan and I finally beat the raid last night. It was a grueling process with mastering the mechanics but we did it. Thanks again!!
First video of the Raid I had seen and already I am liking where the raids are going. Calus is not just some reskin of a mini boss we faced like Aetheon or even Crota.
Was able to beat this fight in 2 Phases with my group (as in, 2 damage phases). There are some very easy tricks that no one thinks of. Primarily, the Merciless Exotic Fusion Rifle is the best DPS weapon you can use on him. We had 2 guys using that and the rest with sniper, got his first HP Bar completely gone and his second 3/4 gone in 1 damage phase, and the people using Merciless were doing about 30% more damage than those with Snipers. You just have to do the trick to get everyone full Heavy Ammo between phases (when you're waiting to be split into your teams of three). Then we made sure to have 60+ Skulls each phase (had 70 on our second), the 2 Warlocks saved their Rifts to use on the platforms closest to him and used Empowerment with Arc Soul for the extra damage (which adds up when all 6 people have them), and had 1 Hunter with Tether as well. He never even entered his Meteor Phase because our first damage phase ended right before he activates it, and our second outright killed him. Still - very glitchy at times.
Nice raid specially the forest , but i noticed from some other raiders that standing in the psions bubble u won't get hit during the shadow realm phase
Hey Byf, just curious as to what you think the lore implications are surrounding Calus after playing through the final encounter and hopefully reading through the collectors edition book. Any ideas as to what his motives are, why he'd want to grant us power beyond the light, or if anyone/anything is pulling Calus' strings from the shadows?
Tylor Dory his biggest motive is probably revenge and since we defeated ghaul he probably wants us to execute his revenge. But i'm just guessing. Why wouldn't he do it himself? Is he not able to leave the leviathan? Is he still scared of the other traitors?
datboiwholived so many questions 😑. I know the collectors edition book hints at Calus coming into contact/being indebted to the Ahamkara, so I wonder if he is acting as their emissary to try and lure us in with the riches they can grant us? Or if, possibly, the Ahamkara have shown him the coming darkness and he/they hope(s) to turn us against the light and the traveller with promises of power grander than the light can provide.
Dirtyy Pantaloons Yes, i don't said he wants revenge because we killed ghaul. I mean because we defeated ghaul he sees us fit to execute revenge for him and kill the other traitors.
Tylor Dory i don't really know a lot about the ahamkara but calus probably encoutered the darkness on his journey and maybe he is acting for the darkness.
You say 3 cycles at 8:07, and with cycles you mean jumping around all 4 platforms three times or the whole cycle with the shadow realm? Not sure if i understand correctly. But great video thanks a lot. Me and my clan will try the raid today:)
Wait a second, if you look around in that loot room, he's got an army of robot surrogates - spare bodies, like Warden Eternal. Perhaps he hijacks them with his own will - Takes them, allowing him to freely pose himself as a killable opponent out of his own whim?
The rest were all organic in some way - except the Servitors and Shanks -, so this is the first time we've gotten a real surprise, from a Cabal no less. If their Emperor has this much skill - in technology as well as the art of psionic/Oryx/Taking which allows him to deceive those around him with such a finely built surrogate - then this Leviathan, and everything on it - except wherever his real place is, probably on an emergency, detachable section of the Leviathan itself - is a test to see that whoever wants to help Calus rebuild his empire is strong enough to carry their weight, and thus do their part. Besides, "The Darkness is coming back, we won't survive it this time" without help. A lot of help. From every race we educated in the art of becoming defeated.
FredReborn Slight correction. I think he wants to ally with us. He doesn't really seem like a bad guy and the way I understand his lore, He seems to want a peacefull cabal empire?
I really like the cyborg design that appears after heavy damage. Also how do cabal get so large? Captains and Kells are explained by ether but cabal? I've always wondered why some cabal like ghaul are larger than legionaries.
Just another point I'd have as Byf didn't bring it up in this video. When the counselors spawn on the plates before Calus claps to send you to the shadow realm make sure you go and punch them all as they drop power ammo as well so it's just more power ammo for free.
BENEDICT, the new sweeper bot vendor, says something weird while staying in the basement, along the lines of "they don't know they're fighting on the wrong side" that was really interesting and people should check it out
Calus says in one of the raid legendaries that he gazed past the edge of the Galaxy into the darkness and it gazed back. He's been in touch with the darkness tetrahedrons. This makes sense as to why Gaul would need to take the light in order to "be emperor" as the consul said. He was able to overthrow and exile Calus militarily, but in order to truly defeat and replace him as the true emperor he needed the opposite para-causal power to Calus's. The Consul even said their mission, taking over he Empire, would _fail_ if Gaul did not take the light. This explains why the Cabal's ideology is identical to that of the darkness, attaining power by *taking* it, despite them having no clear connections with it. Their leader has a connection to it that he does not share. It also explains why Gaul compared himself to the Traveler, like a god, because the old emperor was a god of sorts. All told, Calus is absolutely a bad guy in the long run, but as of now his interests do not conflict with ours. His "deeper truth" must be the truth of the deep, or at the very least he is very familiar with the two powers, like Toland or Osiris.
Asked some other but figured id send it to you as well. 6 handles underneath spawn plateform as well as 2 on left side halfway up in a room. Idk what they do but figured maybe someone could figure it out.
This was a good guide, I watched a stream fighting with it and almost had it but this answered a few lingering questions. Most important question was, Who was truely in control of Calus. Unless it was just in consciousness entombed in a robot.
My group did a 4-2 strat where 4 people stayed in the shadow realm to get skull stacks. We were getting 90-100 stacks and were able to 2 cycle Calus even though most of my group were doing low damage. The Coldheart is a skull melting machine.
So the Emperor has essentially infested himself with a Hive worm to gain power. That would explain the need to eat whole planets. Also... I don't know, the bit with the symbols on the face, that sort of thing really disrupts my suspension of disbelief. It seems inconsistent with the type of "realism" they have tried to establish throughout the game in general. Why would the emperor's ghost face have a street sign to which "button" to press in order to defeat him? The spooky giant ghost face, and the robot doubles, that is all fine and consistent with the game world (strange as it may sound).
Patrik Hjorth Because Calus meant it that way. He made his astral face show us the answers to winning, because he wanted us to figure out how to beat his robot. The whole raid was a test for guardians to see if we were worthy of his treasures and power.
I also think it was a challenge to the guardians, to disrupt them. I watched Mr Fruit's extended Dream Team figure it out and they seemed to turn on each other in the shadow realm, arguing about who's seen what and what to do. Meanwhile, the team in the Throne room were left in the dark, took out the wrong Psion and caused a wipe. Tensions were high their first few attempts. Thought it was an interesting mechanic for that reason.
Byf, did you guys happen to see the room at the very beginning where you land that has a switch that you can activate? I haven't seen anyone post a video about it yet. It on the left hand side of the map. There is a leaver on the ceiling that you can pull but can't tell what it does. Just thought I would ask/inform. Thanks for your videos!
Do you think you could hide behind calus's throne chair during the dark phase sequence so you don't have to worry about survival and just come out when the symbol is called and then go back, so the only survival would be running to the beast or axes and running back behind him?
So, this was a Trial by Combat. He put us through our paces and as we passed each, set off fireworks. And we now have points to contribute to his faction. By doing him a solid and killing Ghaul, is he now an ally? Also, he has his own Worm...
Travis and Twyler In a sense, Callus pulled a Doctor Doom. He made us fight a duplicate while he was safely away from the fighting. We never killed him. As well as giving the In-Universe explanation as to why we have to come back to the raid.
A Somewhat Decent Person I like to think that callus is more less a god only leaving us a physical form just to have it we can't really kill him and the only way to really kill him is get rid of the leviathin
Hey BYF. Will you make an Story Time Video for Calus and the Leviathan? Cause, well i play Destiny 2 i have no chance to get in the Raid sooner or later. Did think correct that this Robot isnt the Real Emperor and that he is merly testing the Guardians? What do you think is the Reason for this and the "final" reveal that he is a robot with a massive amount of replacement Bodys. i really would like to "read" oder hear your thoughts about that.
I'm confused about one part. When you have to call out the symbols on Calus's Head in the Shadow Realm, what is the order the teleported players go in to kill the Psions? I know the one not called out is first but what about after that
Hello! My team and myself were wondering why the psions in the bubble look so different to the normal psions. Could it be calus or Osiris. Or are we thinking too much into it lol
Calus sent us to this Leviathan as a test, to see if were truely worthy to meet him a prepare for the darkness, the Calus we face in the raid is a robot version. The real Calus is on a Cabal Homeworld watching.
+Leonard Church Did you miss the ending where there's literally a room of hundreds of Calus robots? It's clear that this was all just a test and the real Calus is elsewhere watching the whole thing.
I'm sorry if this sounds stupid and if the answer is obvious, but did the raid weapons have increase damage against Cabal? I know KF weapons had increased damage against Taken, and CE had against Hive, but like VoG didn't have increase damage against Vex, rather just Oracles. Which is why I ask
Are all raid bosses going to be like this? I haven't bought the game yet (Im aware of all the problems of Destiny 1 but it seems like Destiny 2 is at minimum worth the price of the game on first purchase) but I am very impressed Do you have to have a premade of 6 to play this? It seems like this level or coordination would be difficult with randoms
otakuveritas yes there is no matchmaking so you will have to download a fire team recruiting app (destinies main app is what I suggest if you don't have it) and all raids will have a decent amount of coordination
I really need to ask, what should I do since I am late for the raid. One week is already a very limited amount of time to prepare and grind up but irma cut my time in pieces because I had to run away from a category 5. I'm one of the lucky ones because I'm staying somewhere with power and Internet but I just got to 260 power yesterday and I'm scared of everyone being done with the raid by the time I catch up. What should I do?
I thought you were going to shoot a rocket into the back of someone and blow yourself up during the damage phase.
Methos Flashback of Vault of Glass
Yeah had that happen to me. But instead of the back of someones head it was the inside of the bubble because i timed my jump wrong. 😅
Shadow Realm ehh..... I see you have to duel your way out of there.
When Calus sucks you far enough and starts puking skulls he's all like "ha fool, you fell into my trap card!"
How tf did ghaul overthrow this guy
Sentinel Prime right lol
Calus probably got this strong after being exiled.
Sentinel Prime With the help of the rest of the Praetorate, and by catching him off guard. And presumably before he built the robotic replicas of hinself.
Brian Winsboro I truly hope so dude
Sentinel Prime I don't think he did overthrow him
i just completed it!!! wooohoo!!
Do you think Calus is a good guy? He practices the sword logic with us to some extent, therefore strengthening us, as we did him by destroying Ghaul.
so wait was calus a robot whole time? i dont think so i think that is a robot he made to prepare the guardians for the real fight
Robo Trex I think he'll be benefit to us as he gives us vendor in the tower based on our reputation with him.

Good lord, I was there watching the stream. It was painful, but I'm glad you finished it.
Crazy theory: so Callus says the light is Feeble and that he can empower us more. What if he's aware of the Darkness. What if the darkness is why he wants to empower us. Because he knows he can't and we won't be able to fight them. So he's protecting his own skin in a way
Carlingus cabal know for sure the power of darkness.
They eventualy fight him and fail.
That why ghaul betray the emperor and took power.
It would be so dope if the darkness could create dark guardians.
@@samecken comment aged very well
So byf, have you read the collectors edition book? And your thoughts on it? Also, thoughts on sweeper bot and Calus bot?
Robo Trex He said he was going to make a lore video on the raid
Robo Trex The sweeper bot is the true mastermind obviously, haven't you been paying attention ?
I managed to complete the raid this morning at 6am gmt, good 12 hours solid without looking at vids or streams. Grats Byf, keep up the good work
I haven't seen anyone post about it but at the beginning at the raid on the bridge you can go under it and there is a room with 6 switches that need to be pulled
Sincerest Bogey also 6 switches in a left room at the beginning as well as 6 switches on the wall of the bath room after you finish that area
That's how checkpoints work now. You have to traverse through the bottom of the ship to get to the checkpoint you left off at.
We pull the switches to open another area where we can use the aqueduct key to get into the other loot chest.
Sincerest Bogey we know
Lore master Byf, as always your videos are great and i can't wait for the raid lore video
Byf
Thank you so much for this guide. My clan and I finally beat the raid last night. It was a grueling process with mastering the mechanics but we did it. Thanks again!!

Me when i saw the calus copies at the end: AHHHHHHHHH! CONSPIRACY! DARKNESS! LORE! SPECULATION! CALL MYELIN! CALL BYF! GATHER THE GUARD!
Great guide! This is going to help my clan a ton. Would love to see more guides for the other bosses of the raid. Keep up the great work! SUBBED!
i haven't done the raid yet but thanks to you i have a rough idea of what to do thanks man
Thank you for this guide. I await other guides to :)
Great & Succinct walkthrough. Thanks dude!
Damn dirty synth!
Thanks Byf! Nice video.
Thanks Byf. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the lore aspect of this.
Who knew, the Cabal might just be interesting after all :)
Thank u man this really did help me understand how to do this part of the raid 😁
Nice raid specially the forest , but i noticed from some other raiders that standing in the psions bubble u won't get hit during the shadow realm phase
Thank you for the clarification.
Hey Byf, just curious as to what you think the lore implications are surrounding Calus after playing through the final encounter and hopefully reading through the collectors edition book. datboiwholived so many questions 😑.
@Datboi He hated Ghaul though?
Only 40 days until i can play destiny 2... *a single tear goes down the check* only 40 days...
Stay strong brother, for we suffer together!
Daline Noble May the blessing of the PC be upon you!
You say 3 cycles at 8:07, and with cycles you mean jumping around all 4 platforms three times or the whole cycle with the shadow realm? Not sure if i understand correctly. But great video thanks a lot. Me and my clan will try the raid today:)
datboiwholived I'm assuming the entire cycle of Shadow realms
Luke Harley yeah true, would be to easy without the shadow realm. Stupid question.
Wait a second, if you look around in that loot room, he's got an army of robot surrogates - spare bodies, like Warden Eternal.
Perhaps he hijacks them with his own will - Takes them, allowing him to freely pose himself as a killable opponent out of his own whim?
Koldraxon Of the First Seven Or has that how all raid bosses have been? The world will never know.
Probably just robots mate
Koldraxon Of the First Seven cool story, needs more ahamkara
I'm up to the final boss but just havnt been able to do it ;( hope to get it done before reset
Great video!
Wait but when do we get raid lore because it feels as if this isnt the end of the raid or its not the end of the story around it
Short version: Calus is testing us, he wants to see if we are worthy of truly meeting him and helping him take back the true cabal empire
FredReborn Slight correction. I think he wants to ally with us. He doesn't really seem like a bad guy and the way I understand his lore, He seems to want a peacefull cabal empire?
Wait, what did i say? My reply was deleted for some reason.
great vid man
Great walkthrough i am a bit of a raid noob
Calus is a big happy bastard. My favorite big bad so far.
Thanks for the video. Prepping for pc
Damn.
That was fast.
There has just been released a trials of the nine trailer which shows in a splitsecond a creature of the darkness
I really like the cyborg design that appears after heavy damage. Also how do cabal get so large? Captains and Kells are explained by ether but cabal? I've always wondered why some cabal like ghaul are larger than legionaries.
MrMonsterHunter 808 the cabal are made up of different species its possible cross breeding could of made some of them bigger than others
Only the psions are a different species, the main "Cabal" are called sidurn
MrMonsterHunter 808 breeds of different species. Psions and war beasts are both different races
RainbowDragon 666 and war beasts
MrMonsterHunter 808 Well just think of it like genetics. In real life there are humans much taller than others, maybe it's the same for the Cabal.
Your stream with unknown player was crazy I watched from start to finished
Just another point I'd have as Byf didn't bring it up in this video. When the counselors spawn on the plates before Calus claps to send you to the shadow realm make sure you go and punch them all as they drop power ammo as well so it's just more power ammo for free.
damnet Byf! I want some of that lore speculation! Speculate Speculate lol
Can't wait to hear the lore about the raid and why callus was a robot
If you recorded that raid Please Release it I would love to see a raid with you in more console in it I think that would be really funny.
Unknown Player streamed it, but you can only hear his voice. I wouldn't recommend watching it unless you have 10 hours to waste.
BENEDICT, the new sweeper bot vendor, says something weird while staying in the basement, along the lines of "they don't know they're fighting on the wrong side" that was really interesting and people should check it out

How'd he do that drop on 9:30
What button do you press?
Asked some other but figured id send it to you as well. 6 handles underneath spawn plateform as well as 2 on left side halfway up in a room. Idk what they do but figured maybe someone could figure it out.
cant wait for the lore

Byf have you read the Dunemarchers lore segment, it contains info on the loyal legions to Calus!
Can’t wait until I can actually watch this video!
This guys voice is awesome. You should be doing voice overs or something😄👍🏽
That drinking animation tho
(I swear that will become a meme)
So the Emperor has essentially infested himself with a Hive worm to gain power. That would explain the need to eat whole planets.
Also... I don't know, the bit with the symbols on the face, that sort of thing really disrupts my suspension of disbelief. Patrik Hjorth no he eats the planets of those who aren’t worthy, he despises the hive you dummy
I think the speaker is the man telling the story in the law of the jungle trailer for destiny 1
What is the name of the music track used at the very end of this video?
Where did you get that beautifull helmet??
How long does the raid last?
Hey byf, can you do a video about comparing this raid to destiny 1 raids and which is better?
What primary weapon are you using during the fight Byf?
Do you think you could hide behind calus's throne chair during the dark phase sequence so you don't have to worry about survival and just come out when the symbol is called and then go back, so the only survival would be running to the beast or axes and running back behind him?
What do you do with the calus tokens?
Oh gawd...it's like looking at Andross all over again lol
The question I have is simply this, when's the raid lore vid?
Where do we turn in the Emperor Calus tokens?
MakoGT Finish the raid and it'll unlock a new NPC in the tower to turn in the tokens
Jason Lu thanks
MakoGT lol its the sweeper bot
What assault rifle are you using man? Accurate as hell
So, this was a Trial by Combat. He put us through our paces and as we passed each, set off fireworks. And we now have points to contribute to his faction. By doing him a solid and killing Ghaul, is he now an ally? Also, he has his own Worm...
Any rage timer?
Do you know if there are any checkpoints? My clan got to the royal pools, left to the tower came back and had to restart?
Just wanted to see if you knew anything about the cabal warbeast more wise. Can't find any videos on them
Lore question how does callus have the ability to teleport you? doesn't this seem like vex tech?
What's that scout? Call to serve?
1:21 "Purple Realm"
Need lore for this, why so many duplicates of the emperor! Who is it and what's going on lol?
Travis and Twyler
In a sense, Callus pulled a Doctor Doom. He made us fight a duplicate while he was safely away from the fighting. We never killed him. As well as giving the In-Universe explanation as to why we have to come back to the raid.
A Somewhat Decent Person I like to think that callus is more less a god only leaving us a physical form just to have it we can't really kill him and the only way to really kill him is get rid of the leviathin
slykiller534 I don't even think there is a reason to kill him. He doesn't seem evil.
Ken Kaneki he has a WORLD EATING MACHINE fuck that guy
king budley it's a fucking wine maker, I'm game for not blowing it up
How does he do the thing when he jumped in the loot pit ?
The robot calus is a fake calus the true calus is somewhere else he was just testing us with all the trials (the raid)
I think theres a Evil version of the Traveler out and its version of guardians. Kinda like Ying & Yang.
I'm confused about one part. When you have to call out the symbols on Calus's Head in the Shadow Realm, what is the order the teleported players go in to kill the Psions? I know the one not called out is first but what about after that
byf, wtf is the raid about storywise?
Hello! My team and myself were wondering why the psions in the bubble look so different to the normal psions. Could it be calus or Osiris. Or are we thinking too much into it lol
Calus makes your handsclap ✋
Can you do a lore video on Asher Mir from io
ugh I cant wait to get this on PC
I NEED THE LORE VID BYFFY
So question is: Was Calus a robot the whole time? Or is he still somewhere on the Leviathan?
Calus sent us to this Leviathan as a test, to see if were truely worthy to meet him a prepare for the darkness, the Calus we face in the raid is a robot version. The real Calus is on a Cabal Homeworld watching.
Romeo So in a sense, Calus is our ally.
Romeo calus is an ally
+Leonard Church Did you miss the ending where there's literally a room of hundreds of Calus robots? It's clear that this was all just a test and the real Calus is elsewhere watching the whole thing.
I'm sorry if this sounds stupid and if the answer is obvious, but did the raid weapons have increase damage against Cabal? I know KF weapons had increased damage against Taken, and CE had against Hive, but like VoG didn't have increase damage against Vex, rather just Oracles. Which is why I ask
It’s about fucking time someone calls it the shadow Realm.
When you start a new character do u have to repeat the campaign?
New Character means New Game, Already existant character is unaffected.
Trevor Williams meaning I dont have to start all over ? On campaign
I guess you are new at destiny?
Me and my team is trying to beat this part we all r high power in the fibe hundred and we are having problems any helpful hints you can give us.
Are all raid bosses going to be like this? I haven't bought the game yet (Im aware of all the problems of Destiny 1 but it seems like Destiny 2 is at minimum worth the price of the game on first purchase) but I am very impressed
Do you have to have a premade of 6 to play this? It seems like this level or coordination would be difficult with randoms
otakuveritas yes there is no matchmaking so you will have to download a fire team recruiting app (destinies main app is what I suggest if you don't have it) and all raids will have a decent amount of coordination
Your voice is amazing dad
Byf! You can leave the shadow realm when the inside team destroys calus's shield! So you can coordinate to get about 90 each time and 2 phase him!
Basically, you can just keep his shield about 1 shot, or nearly close, so when they hit about 70, shoot it!
So...Cabal Emperor Calus is a pseudonym for Victor "Doctor Doom" Von Doom confirmed?
First commenter nice vid I didn't no leviathan was a robot
I really need to ask, what should I do since I am late for the raid. One week is already a very limited amount of time to prepare and grind up but irma cut my time in pieces because I had to run away from a category 5. I'm one of the lucky ones because I'm staying somewhere with power and Internet but I just got to 260 power yesterday and I'm scared of everyone being done with the raid by the time I catch up. What should I do?
