I'm no professional guitarist in the slightest - I've been tinkering for 30 years having fun playing along with tab sheets for most all of my favorites from the 70's and 80's. I've just now later in life wanted to expand my own playing just a little to have fun. I say all that to also add I know ABSOLUTELY no music theory - so a lot of videos are lost on me because I don't know the language. That being said - I am ELATED to find I actually understood your explanations PERFECTLY - you managed to teach me some more advancements with my playing FINALLY taught/explained in a manner I could GET !!!! Made great sense and you just single-handedly taught me something I can understand , use and expand on for the first time EVER on TH-cam - thanks so much for teaching/showing this the way you did !!
Many guitar lessons fall into the 'give a man a fish' category. This, however, is a 'teach a man to fish' lesson and worth so much more. That it's based on a Gilmour classic is just a very big cherry on top. Excellent stuff, Brett. Thank you!
Many thanks, I've been looking for "do shredding techniques" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ganyatty Guitar Gainify - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.
David Gilmore a guy I know nothing about. I've have also worked for many proffesional recording artists from Tom Petty: Motle Crue: Ratt: Forienor to NUGENT: knowing guy who recorded with Jimi Hendrix on Electric ladyland: Song Jimi_ Jimmy jam: Perhaps I've been kinda spoiled? Or fortunate,,, Having a brother in R&R HOF 2011 inductee,,I guess this guy is what's "IN" right now? U say hes in top5 players? He's no Jeff Beck that 4 sho! I thought u taught blues: but I'm glad its not shredding...this does sounds musical which is good. So I'll hang out a bit longer...thanks.
David Gilmour is THE reason I became a guitarist. The smartest thing my teacher did when I 1st started playing was he taught me how to “play the guitar” before anything else. In other words, he let me explore how to physically play the instrument in my own natural way, using my fingers properly of course. Because he did that though, I was able to create my own style and “my own sound” if you will, which of course is very much based on Gilmour, with a lot of bending, and a lot of finger harmonics. So my style naturally became very melodic. Once that was 2nd nature, then we went back and I started learning and applied proper scaling, which then had my style naturally applied to it. For me, that’s the way to go. You can teach anyone structured scales but melody has to come naturally or it’s not really melody.
WOW! One of the BEST lessons I've ever had in 25 years!!! I'm just now understanding the CAGED system but to see one of the most iconic solos broken down like that was a real eye opener regarding how strong those E, A & D shapes are. Incredible lesson!!! (I also purchased of few of yours and Corey's courses and they are do damn good!!! THANKS!) I watch nearly all videos but rarely comment...I try to support by purchasing.
It was so great to hear you talk about David Gilmour almost exactly how I have talked about him. I belong to a classic rock facebook page in which people post classic rock songs- and people can make comments, along with the person who created the post. There are always people that will say this guitar player or band is better than that guitar player or band....and they will even expound on that by saying things like- this guitar player couldn't tie the shoes of that guitar player.( you get the picture). I absolutely hate that first of all...I always say to them...MUSIC IS NOT A COMPETITION ! I do prefer to listen to guitar players who play melodically and with feel -Like David G. People on the page will often bring up guitar players that can play lightning fast- a million notes a minute- I always come back and say that I prefer to listen to players who put some soul into their playing.
I was a singer until I had hearing loss in my left ear in 2008 and got discouraged. I’m now picking up a guitar again after all this time and this opened up my mind so much. I don’t know what caged is, but I do love This song and solo. You are a GREAT teacher and make it seem so simple. I learned so much so far and I’m only 1/2 way through the video. Thank you so much. I have so much gratitude in my heart right now. I believe again that it’s possible for me like I did when I was a kid trying the just learn the pentatonic scale. Just this one lesson and I see the neck differently. I’ve been wanting to learn all my triads and chord shapes. This is a great video thank you!
Oh thats great to hear! Thanks for checking it out! Just check my channel out to find out more about the CAGED system. Just put it in the search bar of my main page and you will see a bunch of videos.
Just when you think he can't come up with yet another masterclass in CAGED, he goes and does it again. Bravo. 👏👏👏 Every single note broken down and put into crystal clear context. So much so, that you make it sound like the solo wrote itself. As if to say "well of course this note was the natural choice for this part of the solo". So glad I bought your course. Worth every cent and more. Thanks for all the additional free lessons you give us here too!
Gilmour is a fantastic player to emulate. Phrasing and feel is instantly recognizable. Can't thank you enough Brett . Every video inspires me to play better. Thanks for all you do, mon ami ...et à bientôt .

The rock tone you achieve for these lessons is the best I've heard online. Plus, that's probably the best trucker lid in all the land. Great stuff and thank you!
This is why you are the man. You make scales not suck ass by giving them context and meaning. Also, you're one of the few who realises that learning at this level means no need to turn a 20min vid into a 40min vid by pointing out every note in an effort to pander to beginners and intermediate.
Once again - Great Job, Brett! David Gilmour has ALWAYS been one of my favorite players.. no wonder though, blues phrasing in some of the heaviest songs ever! No Flash, just Class! 👍🎸✌️😎
I enjoy your videos and have learned not only some great solos that you have broken down (Neal Schon) and other tips, I have been struggling the last couple of weeks with my solos looking for a break through, and this Video gave me exactly what i needed, the last couple of days using this approach has taken my playing to another level. Ian already said what I was thinking. Thank you for the lesson, it’s really got me thinking. I made lots of notes to work on and think about. Thank you!!
I much prefer watching a teaching like this, using shapes to solo in, than the typical...ok, put your ring finger on the eleventh fret and bend it up a half step then bring it down and slide to the thirteenth yada yada yada. I may learn the solo that way but I don't focus on the chords being played. This is a great teaching and plan to start looking at all of the chord progressions I practice and jam to and looking at chord shapes to improvise to instead of always looking thru the lens of the scale patterns I've already learned. Thanks for opening my eyes a little wider!

Good stuff Brett like usual. I always give people links to your stuff when people on FB ask how to play solos. You always sound great and have easy to understand vids. Keep going please. And you rig always sounds great.
Really well done. The key. The clarity. Yes. I was just yesterday thinking about the vocal quality of good guitar phrasing in the context of Santa and Peter Green. Every time one of these huge doors is opened it’s so exciting. That which is precious about music becomes all the more so when the mystery goes from How is it done? to How brilliant that it IS done and that we get to revel in it. Thanks, Brett, for guiding the way.
Beautiful sounding and awesome teaching! I unfortunately don’t have the “Theory” part down enough to follow along with what’s happening, but I’ll get there! Great video mate
Still complicated for a beginner. But… this is far and away the most understandable lesson I’ve watched. Learning music is a lot like learning a foreign language. Except that we, or at least ‘I’, have a bit of sense of what’s right or wrong by hearing it. Well, sometimes. Ha Thanks so much, Brett! You definitely earned a subscriber today. Thanks, to Mr Gilmour too! 👏🏼
Good choice of musician and technique to demonstrate a superb example of what's behind it all and how any one can appropriate it and then personalize it. Oh, yeah,...you mentioned Walsh at the end: another similar example in the same vein but with a twist of his own. That shows how diverse and deep the possibilities go. Do a vid on J Walsh closely related to, or as a follow up on this instructional groove you got going on.

Massive fan of yours Brett! Been playing guitar more than I ever have before because of you dude! I also love Pink Floyd! Not even watched this video yet, the title tells me this is gonna be one of your best
Thanks so much! Glad the vids are helping you out!
Man.. your tone is So much better than your past videos..
Thanks! Great amp and a great boost helps a lot. The fact that the OX lets me crank the power section of the amp is a big part of that!
With all that knowledge you make it look so easy MAESTRO!!!
Haha! I still work at it all the time too!
Wow, love it 🙏🏻
Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰
Thanks Rene!
Good stuff Brett like usual. I always give people links to your stuff when people on FB ask how to play solos. You always sound great and have easy to understand vids. Keep going please. And you rig always sounds great.
Thanks Glen! Thanks for spreading the word and watching the vids! Glad to hear you like them!
@@BrettPapa I always like them and your zany humour :) keep it up

Working through caged unleashed at the moment- amazing course!
Thanks so much for the support! Glad you are enjoying the course!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Thank YOU so much for putting together such an in depth and mind blowing lesson!
Great lesson, thank you
You are welcome Russell!
Still BP, still excellent lessons, still superb delivery to the masses, still the best ... thanx for what you do !
Wow thanks Carl! Glad you like the lessons!
Great lesson!
And you’re tone is spot on.
That’s it, I *subbed* cause this is great stuff!!
✌🏼
Awesome! Thanks for the sub!!
Beautiful sounding and awesome teaching! I unfortunately don’t have the “Theory” part down enough to follow along with what’s happening, but I’ll get there! Great video mate
Thanks Brad! Just go to my channel and search CAGED. The videos there will help get you up to speed!
Absolutely killer lesson! Thank you!!!! 🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻
You are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
Another great lesson and man your tone is always amazing
Thank you!
Still complicated for a beginner. But… this is far and away the most understandable lesson I’ve watched. Learning music is a lot like learning a foreign language. Except that we, or at least ‘I’, have a bit of sense of what’s right or wrong by hearing it. Well, sometimes. Ha
Thanks so much, Brett! You definitely earned a subscriber today. Thanks, to Mr Gilmour too! 👏🏼
Awesome! Glad you liked it! Thanks for the sub!
Great analysis of Dave Gilmour style Brett, and how to apply it to your own solos, thanks. I hadn't realised before that Dave was targeting 5ths.
Thanks John! Gilmour's phrasing is amazing!
thanks for sharing, awesome video!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Damn Brett I watch one of your videos and learn so much I just sit and wait for the next one thanks for all the lessons
Awesome to hear Troy! Glad you like the vids!
Such a powerful lesson. Thanks.
Sure thing Hugh! Thanks for checking it out!
I really enjoy your channel. Great interviews, and well explained lessons. Like this one. Much Respect...
Thanks Michael! Glad to hear you like the channel!
Sure thing. Was trying to think of what we be a great song of his to do. Thanks for watching!
Excellent lesson. Thanks bro.
Sure thing Richard! Thanks for watching!
Lightbulb lesson! TY!
Awesome Walt!! Great to hear!
