The Hendrix approach what makes the Jimi Hendrix little Wing solo sound so good? In todays lesson we will break down the mechanics of this solo. In my opinion the Little Wing solo is one of Hendrix's best. It's so melodic and the notes perfectly outline the chord in the progression. Using pentatonic scale shapes and the CAGED system I will show you exactly why the notes used in the Little Wing solo worked so perfectly. Loved this and the recent Gilmour video. Two of the most memorable, and my absolute favorites solos. I understand CAGED and chord shapes, but this requires a deeper dive. Unveiling the chord positions and shapes that the solos come from is the best way to understand how these solos were built. It’s like the difference between telling me to just use rocket science to launch an object into the air, and explaining how to use rocket science. The real work is to de-construct where all of the chord arpeggios are on the neck. Keep them coming!

Great video! Some time back you did a video with Corey Congilio about soloing in Bm. It was the breakthrough video for me. I had struggled for months trying to use the shapes, scales and modes to play a melodic solo. You guys laid it out simply and now I totally get how to make the interconnections between all the various elements. Some friends came over the other day and I was upstairs practicing with a jam track. They literally thought I was listening to a recording of some band. They were surprised to find out it was me playing a solo! Thanks for another great video, I learn something new every time.

Really fun to incorporate concepts/lesson using music we all love....I think most of us could use additional tips/videos on how to keep things quiet around the notes we play especially with bends...I am watching both of your hands carefully but sometimes hard to figure out in a two dimensional video, best regards, Pete

To have the notes " Quiet " when soloing or bending you always use your finger tips:cut ur nails :use your finger tips , practice it u will get it.Unless you have extremely fat fingers?
Robin Trower has nice solos.I know you can play em.Not a request but maybe a thought? Remember Procal Harems Whiskey Train? Trower totally changed his style after hearing Jimi.

Damn, Brett!! This is the Best video I've seen in years! I've been a subscriber since about 2013, but recently work and life have gotten in the way, and i haven't been on your channel in about 6-8 months. I'm going to have to also hit that Bell icon, because I've seen a lot of "In the Mind of.." or "Play like" videos, and also "Learn how to play the solo from.." videos, but NOTHING like this, where you actually teach the solo AND explain why it works over the chord structures so we can make it our own! Anyone who tries to play a Hendrix, SRV, Clapton or Gilmour solo note for note in front of an audience is never going to achieve the same level of finger tonality and master-ism that those gentlemen have, but teaching us how to play it and make it our own? Perfection! Yes, PLEASE make this an entire series, and I'm sorry I've been away so long but I'm going to go back and catch up on your other videos, first of all the David Gilmour video on comfortably Numb. Thank you again for all you do, and keep them coming!

Hey Brett, you’ve never done a bad Hendrix lesson. You’ve got a great feel for his playing style. I spent a ton of time jamming Hendrix tunes back in the day, but somewhere along the way I shifted away from playing them. In retrospect, that was a mistake and I’ve been revisiting those songs. So please finish that Red House lesson! I can tell from watching part one, that you play it very close to the studio version. I lost my Guitar World tabs years ago and I can’t find the studio version anywhere on TH-cam.

I think it comes down to musicality. They have a desire for a certain melody so they keep looking for the right notes. Knowing music theory helps, I'm sure, but how many great guitarist who know music theory can write good solos? Not a lot.
How about "Pali Gap" from Jimi - Section at 3:23... Interesting Chord and Solo Progression.

Thanks Brett! Would love to understand how solos work in songs like 38 Special’s Hold on Loosely or Caught up in You. They seem like straightforward rock tunes, but with great melodic solos that don’t sound like just major or minor pentatonics. (Or at least part of the solos!).

Revelatory, as usual. I'm gathering that a technique for more melodic soloing is the movement toward the chord changes, moving up or down the scale as the chords do. If that's the case (feel free to disabuse me if I'm wrong) do I necessarily need to hit the chord tones to create a more melodic sound? Or can I accomplish that just within the scale? (The chance is better than high that my question doesn't make sense, but, that's why I come here, to figure this stuff out). As always, anyone's free to answer.
Always great to hit some chord tones of the progression at least some of the time. You don't need to do it for every chord every time. It is however a great starting point! All the notes from the progression as long as it stays in the key are derived from the scale. Just make sure you hit some of them at the right time over the right chord! Hope that helps!
