I felt that too for about half a second. Then she goes on & I'm like, no, she's not okay. She'll never be okay. I hope y'all have that stong nog to help. I do for real.
I'm glad she's physically okay, but most likely not mentally. Imagine being a child believing in Santa and then someone who you at first thought was Santa takes out some of your family. She's going to need lots of therapy.
Considering Bruce’s actions and indifference to his son, does anyone think that his son’s ‘accident’ is a little sus. He literally shot children point blank and distanced himself after the original incident. He seems like the reluctant father type… maybe he was done with being a father…
That poor little girl, scarred by santa forever. Rip to the Ortega family. Also you take your time with delivering your content girl! We'll see you next month. Love ya, Bailey.
I remember this incident; we lived about a mile away and my son was friends with one of the survivors. It was a horrible incident. Thank you for coverin it!
I’m abit confused did he die in the house with the other family as he set himself on fire ... I just thought that a neighbour saw him drive off in the blue car with the lights turned off ? Did he have 2 Santa outfits as the police discovered one in the car too that set on fire
An interesting tidbit I didn't see talked about. The only reason the little girl opened the door was because it was tradition for Santa to show up every year to bring presents for the kids, so when the girl yelled Santa and none of the adults reacted.. that was the reason why (it was normally a family friend or family member who came as Santa every year). Merry Early Christmas Everyone!
Poor Katrina, I would get PTSD everytime a saw a Santa. Anywhere at the mall, on a coca cola bottle. I would be flashing back. Way to ruin a tradition, the guy probably knew this.
I did a podcast on this last year and the question that I never got answered was the neighbor who was supposed to do it but couldn't because he moved who was supposed to replace him because if they didn't get anyone to replace the Santa then when she said Santa Claus was here that should have raised some red flags and if not where was the person who was supposed to do it because 11:30 was the time that they usually arranged for the Santa to come that was just one thing I could never find when I did the podcast on this last year True Crime Prime available wherever you get your podcast 🔌 check it out p.s love Bailey video on it so surprised it hasn't been talked about more especially this time of year

Not abandoned. Being a grandmother I will always love my grandchildren more then my grown children. They are responsible for their actions and behaviours.
@@dianpink3019 Spencer was pointing out the irony of Bruce abandoning his disabled child, and then having the audacity to feel abandoned by his mother.
This story hurts the pit of my heart, they were our aunt’s neighbors and this happened when we were over at my aunt’s house for our family Christmas party. I remember seeing the flames and smoke and we all were wondering what was happening.
@@baylee_baby_ I mean, who are you to say ? Lol Bailey has millions of followers for one and for two.. this family had neighbors … SOMEONE had to be their neighbors
Two Things: 1. I find it surprising that all that money Bruce spent on destroying his family could have been spent paying off his debt. 2. I think the reason he decided to take his own life was that he knew that with the burns to his body he couldn't possibly cross the border and get on a plane without attracting some attention. And he also couldn't go to the hospital for assistance because it would have the same result. So he probably felt he had no other option but to take his own life.
I think he also did it in front of his brothers house because he wanted his body to be found. He could have went anywhere and liked himself and he would have either never been found or it would have taken a while to find him. He wanted to be found so they knew for sure it was him.
I know this family and Katrina especially. I played sports with her, shes awesome and living her best life. She talks about remembering seeing Santa coming to the door then black and nothing. Her mother lost just about everyone in her family that night

I grew up near the Covina neighborhood, and remembered reading about this crime and how horrifying it was. I haven't thought about it in years, and I only knew the basic facts, but thanks to Bailey, now I've learned so much more about it.
I lived near there too around that time and remember the story but never knew the full extent of what happened. I believe something similar happened in La Verne in 2015 around Christmas time too.

Just so everyone is aware, the waiting period for purchasing guns in CA is called a cool off period so they can try to prevent people who are heated from buying a gun and using it on a whim if they are having a bad day. In the meantime, a full background check is done, even if buy a gun with cash. Buying a gun with cash means nothing because a full background check is still completed, so buying a gun with cash does not keep you under the radar.
@@ellswybinga2989 Most laws in CA are a joke. There’s a cool down period to buy a gun but you can steal $950 worth of stuff and not get in trouble and donate/ receive blood that’s contaminated with AIDS! Way to go California! Keeping Americans safe.
@@parrissaking1180 This was my thought as well. He put a lot of time into purchasing guns which implied he was at least planning SOMETHING for several months in advance. Although a makeshift flamethrower kind of proves the same point, because I doubt you can make that in a quick fit of rage
The wholesomeness of the comments on Bailey's videos is like the best accompaniment to the videos themselves. Happiest corner of the internet right here. Just goes to show what an awesome creator can achieve.
in no way is my situation leading to this similar apart from my father dying (from covid, not from gun violence), but Christmas day marks 3 months since his death and it's definitely gonna be a difficult one so I can only imagine how difficult it will be for the survivors. my heart goes out to them!
Sometimes when I listen to these stories, and we get to know these wonderful people and their daily lives, I know they're going to die.....sometimes I just like to rewrite it in my head. Think about what a nice Christmas it could've been, if it was the estranged uncle showing up as Santa with gifts for everyone. I know it's weird, and I know it didn't happen. It's just that the story is so sad, and these wonderful people are gone.
So Bruce makes a bunch of bad decisions (financial, drowning his kid, being a bad partner, lies, stealing $) and blames other people. Common theme for family annihilators

I'm less than 10 minutes in, but I've just gotta share this childhood memory which just got a whole lot creepier.. When I still believed in Santa, I saw a man dressed as Santa at our front door after dark. He kept motioning for me to open the door, I got excited and ran to get my mom who was doing dishes in the kitchen. She thought I was just playing make believe, and she knew that I knew better than to open the door, so she didn't follow me, just kept doing dishes. I went back to the door and he was still there, motioning for me to let him in. I was so tempted, but I didn't want to get in trouble, so i didn't. Eventually, he gave up and left. A few years ago, I brought it up to my mom and she was like, "Wait, that was real?? You really saw that???" We both got the chills. I dont even want to think about what that man's intentions were.

I love this so much. Thank you for not exhibiting judgement against little things like that. It's very humanising.
I was a Senior in high school when this happened and one of the kids I went to school with was in that house. Even though I didn’t know him or his family really well, it was so tragic and heart breaking for our school because a lot of people did know him and love him. I had the honor of writing a dedication piece in our yearbook for him. So so sad.
I only found her early this year, but I have gone and watched almost all of her videos (that are still up) and it's so great to see her FINALLY getting the recognition and success that she deserves. I don’t remember hearing about this when it happened, but in 2010 my family tried to surprise me with a visit from Santa where he was supposed to bring a present that I would open with him and the family. I was home alone when he arrived, I opened the door, saw a man dressed as Santa Claus holding a present and IMMEDIATELY slammed the door in his face and hid. I mean she was shot in the face and her family was slaughtered but yeah ... Fine.

Glad im not the only who who thought so
Total sociopath
I thought the same thing. The little boy’s accident was very suspicious! I’m glad Bruce got what he deserved! 💯
maybe he wanted to leave her and didn't want to pay for the son who he doesn't love..
That poor little girl, scarred by santa forever. Rip to the Ortega family.
Also you take your time with delivering your content girl! We'll see you next month. Love ya, Bailey.
Poor Katrina, I would get PTSD everytime a saw a Santa. Anywhere at the mall, on a coca cola bottle. I would be flashing back.
I remember this incident; we lived about a mile away and my son was friends with one of the survivors. It was a horrible incident. Thank you for coverin it!
Any word on how his son is? That’s the biggest thing I wonder about now 🥺
Do you know if the paraplegic son was at the Ortega house when this happened?
@@carlypavia8489 His son Matthew was his first wife’s son, not Sylvia’s. So no, he wouldn’t have been there.
Ohhh ok I’m glad you clarified that bc I was thinking about that the entire time like “SO NOBODY HEARD HER?”

@@baylee_baby_ I mean, who are you to say ? Lol Bailey has millions of followers for one and for two.. this family had neighbors … SOMEONE had to be their neighbors
It’s so sad. Glad you and your family were ok.
Two Things:
That's what I was thinking too. The burns would have gotten him caught.
Karma at its best but still i feel bad for the family
Karma at its best but still i feel bad for the family
But his suit wasn’t burned,
I think he also did it in front of his brothers house because he wanted his body to be found.
I grew up in the Covina/West Covina area, I remember hearing about this story but was too young to understand what had truly happened. All I remember was hearing about Santa having a gun! Intense to actually know the story now! Thank you, Bailey!
I grew up near the Covina neighborhood, and remembered reading about this crime and how horrifying it was. I haven't thought about it in years, and I only knew the basic facts, but thanks to Bailey, now I've learned so much more about it.
My sister lived near the neighborhood too.
I grew up there and my mom worked at CHS, this was so tragic
I lived near there too around that time and remember the story but never knew the full extent of what happened. I believe something similar happened in La Verne in 2015 around Christmas time too.

Just so everyone is aware, the waiting period for purchasing guns in CA is called a cool off period so they can try to prevent people who are heated from buying a gun and using it on a whim if they are having a bad day. In the meantime, a full background check is done, even if buy a gun with cash. Buying a gun with cash means nothing because a full background check is still completed, so buying a gun with cash does not keep you under the radar.
What a joke. If someone really wants a whole slew of guns it won't matter how long they have to wait.
@@ellswybinga2989 Most laws in CA are a joke. There’s a cool down period to buy a gun but you can steal $950 worth of stuff and not get in trouble and donate/ receive blood that’s contaminated with AIDS! Way to go California! Keeping Americans safe.
I feel like maybe, like in this case, if someone buys guns over a period of time and then uses them for this that they can prove it’s premeditated
Unless you're buying it outta a shady guy's trunk?
@@parrissaking1180 This was my thought as well. He put a lot of time into purchasing guns which implied he was at least planning SOMETHING for several months in advance. Although a makeshift flamethrower kind of proves the same point, because I doubt you can make that in a quick fit of rage

Imagine having to relive this trauma every Christmas… which is supposed to be such a joyous time
in no way is my situation leading to this similar apart from my father dying (from covid, not from gun violence), but Christmas day marks 3 months since his death and it's definitely gonna be a difficult one so I can only imagine how difficult it will be for the survivors. my heart goes out to them!

That.. is seriously creepy.
I just got chills reading that! I’m glad you didn’t open the door.
