So much intergenerational trauma in this story. One of the most disturbing parts of this to me is that the grandpa seems to have never been brought to justice for his decades of predatory behavior.
Hello~ I'm a VtM player and had some thoughts about the broken glass Rod kept in his room, in the game each vampire is from a specific lineage or "clan" that have different powers and traits unique to them. Based off statements from people who were with Rod at this time about what powers he believed he had and the way he acted, I believe he based himself on the Malkavian clan. For context: Malkavians are said to be extremely unpredictable, and insane who have fits of rage and violence - Even in the VtM universe they are the outcasts and weirdoes and in the lore are said to very mentally ill and have broken lives before their "embrace" or transition into being vampire. The symbol of Clan Malkav is a broken mirror which symbolizes their shattered minds, and they mark their territory, or crime scenes in the form of leaving broken glass or shattered mirrors. This is my theory as to why he kept broken glass in his mirror, its essentially the flag or symbol of the Clan he believed himself to be apart of.
I was just thinking the same thing! I also play vtm I'm new to it but my brain went straight to the different clans and I pulled my book out to see if there was a reference. I think this is a strong theory
Things like broken glass can also be used to create negative energy space, so I’m wondering if it’s a mixture of the 2, what you’ve mentioned from the game with his satanic worship stuff
I've been trying to figure out why this series of her is really hitting it and I have just realized that it's because this is how us women talk when spilling tea to our friends. Either over drinks or while doing makeup!
Bailey explaining the vampire dnd has the same energy as a mom who's like, not totally sure what the hype is for the thing, but is supportive of their kid's weird interests lol
Literally reminded me of when my Mom explained what eSports were to our extended family because I joined my college's Rainbow Six Siege team a couple years back lol
My biggest problem is why the f wasn’t the grandfather locked up for abusing children?! It’s been happening throughout generations and was even mentioned during the trail and no one even blinked at it?
As someone who has been repeatedly abused; physically, sexually and emotionally, some days it is enough that I did not grow up to identify as a vampire and abuse/brutalize other people. If you were abused and also are not a vampire…. I’m really proud of us today okay.
Haha I was wondering if it was a little sisters or cousins room when I heard he doesn't have a little sister lol it couldn't have been this blood thirsty occult dudes room and bear
I love how a few weird ones ruin a style. Like goths today(like me) are actually really nice. But old people just won’t have it and verbally abuse us in public and in private.
I’m always so excited for it, but I have to make myself wait til the kids go to bed or it’s not enjoyable lol it’s sooo hard waiting 5 more hours after I get off work.
One of the saddest parts of this story to me is that Sondra made a lot of sacrifices to take care of her son, even when she was so young and the circumstances so difficult, but in the end, it was something she herself brought into her son's life that doomed him.
She did not make many sacrifices at all actually, she left him with a man that abused both her and her son to go be with her new husband, only to come crawling back when they divorced. And she continued to live with their abuser for years.
Bailey, talking about the vampire gang hurting the doggos: They should have been burned at the stake. Me: That's a completely rationale punishment, yes.

I kept forgetting how young these kids were when they committed this horrible crime. I think Rod was set up for failure due to the instability and abuse from his family but it doesn’t excuse these acts. He definitely deserves to spend his life in prison.

RE: reference to broken glass in the corner of his room. If broken mirror pieces and/or reflective other possible explanation. Collection of common broken glass can disrupt energy and cause a darker confusing energy in a space. Similar to standing water and clutter or filth in dark corners. If he was playing a game that you have to create energy/situations in areas to be favorable to what you wish to appeal to and accomplish. Please be nice just a short "best guess".
@@astral.trippin never knew that. Thank you for your comment. So does it work kinda like a smoke screen for an opening or a disruptive barrier to a path? I am Seriously intrigued, please do not take my question as offensive. I am sincerely asking with respect and wanting deeper understanding.
That's a tough one. He was introduced to the vampire stuff from his mom. She abandoned him with his grandparents knowing that her dad abused him and then he meets a girl that says she's being sexually abused by her father.... maybe in the moment he raged out on the father and because his own mother didn't save him he let that go on her mother..... man, what a tough situation. Parenting people!!! It makes a difference!!!
I haven't listened to the entire video .... did she claim that Sondra got Rod into Vampirism? Simply not true....she followed him as she thought it was a way to connect with her son. And yes, I know .... I was the reporter in Murray who broke this story about their vampirism to the world (until then, they were just considered troubled teens).
Bailey: Rod turned his bedroom into a shrine for the occult, like supercreepy - Also Bailey: *shows a picture of said bedroom with a cute teddy bear in full view*
I actually say smtn similar to my fiancé 😂 if I ever tell a story where a person is only present for that event, I mention that they done have to remember the person after I tell my story 🤣
A red shirt! For you non-nerdy youngin's, that's a character in the original Star Trek that will soon be killed off, very predictably. They wore TaaaDaaa...red uniforms being lower in rank.
I have literally never cared about a theme song as much as I care about yours. Not hearing it made me realize just how much I need it. Weird, wild stuff.
Hahaha. I’ve got my husband addicted to Bailey. To the point he asks me “how Does her make up look” throughout the video. While we work at home side by side. He quickly says. Hey it’s Monday. Time for some Bailey. He was the one that noticed the theme song was missing. I thought that was so fricking cute. Had to share. Love you Bailey!!!!!!!
Because she definitely is the whole plan to steal the car is wacko. Why would she need to leave the door unlocked for them to get in while her parents were home when she was going home couldn't she have just grabbed the keys or taken the car herself and pick them up she let them in there cuz she knew what was going to happen...
@@danngspeed1732 "oh yeah i unlocked the door for you. if you see my family there just ask them nicely for the car keys, thanks, they'll give you the car no questions asked" makes no sense.
That's funny! I kept repeating the word to myself after she said it and was wondering why it didn't sound right 🤣🤣🤣 It was a really long day at work, lol...
"what is that called" triggered my overactive imagination and i pictured Bailey laying in bed then suddenly sitting up "Necrophilia!" freaking out any humans and animals in her general vicinity. You are amazing bailey x, also I barely survived without the theme song last week thank you lol!
Bailey: She needs something that could make her feel better, something that could take away all the pain. Me: Aww man, she did coke didn't she? Bailey: And she found her escape in a table-top role playing game...that's probably not where you thought this was going huh? Me: I did not. 😭
This one made me cry a couple times. When you talked about Rod being abused at 5 years old - I was 5 when my abuse started . Also, when you talked about the animals. Thank you for making that part short. I feel for animals so much. All they want is to be loved. :-(
Bailey, I love that you always try to empathize with the experiences of every person in the stories you cover. The fact that you want to understand why people make these choices and that you try to relate to aspects of their experiences is just *chef's kiss*. Also, your goth girl look is fab!
I’ve heard several versions of this story over the years bc I’m from Murray KY & some of my family knew some of the people involved! This is the best version I’ve seen/ heard yet!
Ugh- this one was rough. Like Bailey often says when she covers their life story, I’m also not trying to garner sympathy for the accused. But Roderick’s life was set on just an abhorrent trajectory from day one. And yes, people can change & learn & grow. But sometimes circumstances truly are out of control. Again- NOT excusing the crimes. These kids (which they were) seemed like they were so beaten down by life. Can you imagine the internal pain they had that took them to these extremes? So many generations just destroyed here.
@@yara-nd5ky I mean not necessarily perfectly normal unless they had a ton of help/therapy but definitely not everyone with severely traumatic childhoods turned out to become a criminal
I grew up in Eustis, FL where some of this takes place. They would do some of their "rituals" at the local cemetary a block from my house. My middle school boyfriend knew Rod, and my brother was close friends with Heather's older sister. Every time I hear this story on a larger outlet, it sends chills.
I grew up in eustis as well and I also lived in the neighborhood the crime took place at. Didn’t know this happened until years later though since I was a small child when it happened
I was born and live in Murray, my. Like you all, it’s so strange when cases hit so close to home. This is not the first time I have heard documentaries on this case. My dad even delivered the mail to his Moms for a couple years.
The exact moment after Charity called her Grandma and then Bailey said her grandma called the police, I felt like we had a connection XD I was thinking the same thing! Smart grandma! You go grandma!
I know Bailey probably won’t see this but I watch you while playing with/feeding my 4 month old daughter and she hears your voice and laughs and tries to talk to you. It’s so cute to me and I just had to share :)
“But as we know, this is not the Rainbow and Sunshine Show.” Imagine if Bailey decides to do a Rainbow, Sunshine, and Story Saturday show after this which is her chatting over brunch 👌🏼
I sent this story to Bailey to tell, she explains stories and it’s like your there. Thank you Bailey This happened in Lake County , Florida This kid was crazy as a sprayed roach!!!!
First, Vampire the Masquerade & Dungeon & Dragons are really fun so it’s so cool to hear Bailey mention them! Secondly, this is such a sad story of intergenerational trauma and how it hurts whole communities.
lol! It happened in the "Devil in Disguise" video too... she put on one Lash and then talked for a minute or two before doing the other one. It was great.
IT IS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!! Love Halloween 👻 All Hallows Eve 🎃 Samhain ⭐️ Harvest Festival ❤️All Saints Day 💙 lol and the entire month of October is Halloween
He was my mom’s neighbor in high school. I remember her talking about it a little, but all I knew about was a group of people sharpening their teeth and acting like vampires 😳 She said she hung out with him for a little bit before he got into the vampire stuff and told me about neighborhood pets going missing. She grew up in Murray and I was born there
I did my college sociology project on vampire subculture. I used to play Vampire Masquarade too. I added Rod and I think 4 other murderers who thought they were real vampires (not tied to Rod). It was fascinating.
I love Anne Rice. I discovered her while I was in middle school and I would spend my days in the public library reading her books. Pretty intense story lines for a middle school kid but I loved it(:
It's so terrible that his mom, who was also abused by her father (so, SO, SOOOO sick) felt that she was so trapped that she had to leave her child in the care of such a monster.
“Felt trapped” that’s how we word negligence when it comes to mothers. I’m so sick and tired of mothers being coddled while fathers are always painted as the bad ones. This POS woman left her child with the man who sexually assaulted her as a kid, and then left her own child for a new man, and not just that but left him to the man who she knows what fate will await the little boy. The woman is the actual culprit of what happened to the guy. Absolutely sickening.
simpli safe having bailey advertising for them is so smart!! more defense systems or things like taser companies need to follow their example! its on brand and gives Bailey more money to pop out videos for us on mondays!
Soon as you said vampires, I knew this was about Rod and his "clan". I live in Kentucky, so this was a story I heard about from a young age. Crazy these kids destroyed this family. Heather denied knowing the plan, but I'm sure she did. Although I do pity her because now that she is older I imagine she has immense regret.
@@hollykelley8865 you aren't that far from me! I'm in Pendleton County. I was one of those goth/emo kids all through school, so I had the book and movie about this case. I was obsessed with it there for a while. Thankfully, me and my friends didn't think we were supernatural beings. We just liked Rock music and dressed in black. Lol.
I was born and live in Murray and soon as I saw this title, I was just waiting for her to start dropping people and places. So crazy to hear your own small town on a large scale. I agree with Nichole, I be there is a large amount of regret. Hopefully felt by both.
Broken glass has a lot of significance in Romani culture, if I’m not mistaken. I think it’s to ward off bad luck / spirits. Could also be used as a barrier to keep other energies from entering your space. I had a friend who would break glass outside their house before big events to keep bad luck away.
I played D&D and Vampire: The Masquerade in high school. D&D at the time was pretty complex and V:tM was definitely much easier to play and more user-friendly by comparison. Loved both, though!
Vampire the Masquerade was a community in the early 90's and was a very much an escapism, very enjoyable. However, this group of kids were talked about as a blemish, suddenly all underage players were kicked out or had to provide parental approval. I think that it was such an influencing game because unlike DnD, it morphed into Live Action Roleplay. Which attracted more than just your average gamer. There are still active LARPing groups, and is a enjoyable safe way to spend an evening.
Yes, I was very young when it was popular. But my partner is 8 yrs older than me and talks about how he would play VtM games in the parks with groups of friends. I don't know if word of this got all the way to the West coast though. I'll have to ask. News definitely traveled slower and had less of an impact nationally than it does now.
I remember that i had some friends that played or got involved. It seemed kinda cool. I am 44 so it was around my time. My dad owned a comic book store. He gave me promo packets for that and magic the gathering.

I'm too much into this story. the whole friendship, Gothic, vampy thing... sounds so familiar. in the end... we had both borderline, mentally abused by mum or "dad". I'm soooo proud of us that we made it!
What that makes me sad about all of these cases is how often ignorance and suffering is being perpetrated throughout generations, lately leading to extreme violence. People seriously needs therapy. However, I still consider those stories quite interesting.

That's a tough one. He was introduced to the vampire stuff from his mom. ❤Yes, I am the same. Animals teach us a more pure kind of love...
I was the reporter at the Ledger & Times that broke the story about their Vampirism. Do you remember a band called "Trippin Lizard"?
Ugh- this one was rough. Like Bailey often says when she covers their life story, I’m also not trying to garner sympathy for the accused. But Roderick’s life was set on just an abhorrent trajectory from day one. And yes, people can change & learn & grow. But sometimes circumstances truly are out of control. Again- NOT excusing the crimes. These kids (which they were) seemed like they were so beaten down by life. Can you imagine the internal pain they had that took them to these extremes? So many generations just destroyed here.
Yes the man responsible did not ever go to trial or anything for what he did to Rod and his family.
What's your point exactly ? Many children who have horrible childhoods also grew up to be perfectly normal.
@@yara-nd5ky I mean not necessarily perfectly normal unless they had a ton of help/therapy but definitely not everyone with severely traumatic childhoods turned out to become a criminal
@@yara-nd5ky they don't turn into criminals yeah but I wouldn't say they're perfectly normal.

I work with Dana who's also apart of this case. It's crazy to hear her talk about it.

It's so terrible that his mom, who was also abused by her father (so, SO, SOOOO sick) felt that she was so trapped that she had to leave her child in the care of such a monster.
Yep so sad 😞 I can’t imagine how desperate she must have been to leave her son with her dad
I was thinking this too but also maybe she thought as a boy he'd be safe? Either way it's so sad

I think that is exactly the essence of the whole story. Everything could be different.
So happy you’re back. September was hard

Moral of the story and many others: don’t traumatize kids 🥰
What that makes me sad about all of these cases is how often ignorance and suffering is being perpetrated throughout generations, lately leading to extreme violence. People seriously needs therapy.
However, I still consider those stories quite interesting.
