    Morning Collin !
Let me start with the elefant (not the TD 🤣) in the room: Knispel never served on Jagdpanther. He did most of "his" kills in Pz IV and Tiger I as a gunner, not as tank commander. So, according to German tradition, his tc as the crew chief would usually get credit for his kills. See Wittmann for comparison: actually Balthasar Woll was Wittmann's gunner and SHOULD be credited with most of Wittmann's kills. Same goes for Otto Carius. Propaganda reasons ?
The "long" 88 had nothing to do with the 88 Flak, besides the caliber. 8,8cm was just one of the standard calibers in German military well before WW1, much like 3" was for the Allies.
I always wondered why there was no German 10,5cm AT gun/tank gun besides one or two prototypes ?
Concealing something like Jagdpanther could indeed be a difficult occasionally, but it wasn't impossible. It didn't affect M-10s which were also quite tall.
You have to consider that tanks were a) literally blind and b) JP would engage at maximum effective range if possible.
Good point on the tracks ! This was an issue with many tanks in WW2 and it still can be today. Nevertheless, Panther needed a very well trained driver, not only for track issues. It is also a perfect example on how many "small" things are important for a tank to work properly. Tracks are usually overlooked in favor of gun and armor although they are so obviously important.

yes so i decided to look into this, and when i used this source it stated that Kurt Knispel did do fight in the Jagdpanther, it gave several sources and it even said that otto carius said that kurt fought in a Jagdpanther, so when making this script i thought that it was accurate, but when i saw your comment i decided to do more extensive research and i found out with a friend of mine that you are 100% correct, the source states that Kurt Knispel served in the Jagdpanther during the Later stages of world war 2 so during the Ardenne Offensive he was supposedly according to my source part of the 12th SS panzer Division which during that time was supplied with Jagdpanthers, it turns out that this was false.
I want to Apologise for this mistake as stuff like this is not supposed to happen, it is safe to say that i blacklisted the source in question and marked it as unreliable. thanks for the Comment about Kurt Knispel

@@LearningHistoryTogether You are very welcome, Collin ! Everybody makes mistakes, and if the sources are wrong, how would we know in the first place ?
According to the wikipedia article - careful again; wiki isn't always correct, but they're not always wrong either - Knispel trained as a gunner in 12th ARMY Panzer Division in winter 1940, age 19. In 1942 his battalion was retrained in Germany on Panzer IV F2 and re-attached to 13th PD. That's where he started to shine. After a brief time in field hospital (ill, not wounded), he went to "Tiger-school" in Paderborn. Side note: in 1943 Tiger crews were highly experienced tankers, only few raw recruits mixed in ! Personal in Tiger units usually came from the same battalion or regiment, so not only were they experienced individually, but they already functioned as a team. Side note end.
From there he went on to the famous 503 heavy battallion and made his name - still a gunner - at Kursk.
He was never made an officer, mostly because he wasn't exactly in line with the Nazi ideology, and he also was infamous for being a little thief. So "ethically", he was totally unfit for the SS (which automatically makes him a "good boy" in my book).
Since 503(army) and 12th SS both served together in Normany, the former might have been attached to the latter at some point; IIRC, 503 was in the same region at Bourgebois/Verrières as I.SS Panzerkorps of which 12th SS was part of, but I stand to be corrected on this one.

The pic of the '88' in AA form is the Flak 18/36, firing the 8.8 x 571R cartridge later used in the Tiger1, NOT the 8.8 x 855R cartridge of the Tiger 2/Jagdpanther.
The AA gun for that round, the Flak 41, was seldom if ever used outside of Germany due to it's size and higher maintenance requirements, and simply wasn't as 'handy' as the Flak 36 in the anti tank role.
The Flak 41 was VERY complex, heavy, and with many issues.
The 8.8 x 855R cartridge was HUGE, and required a much bigger gun overall, especially the breech, so it simply didn't lend itself to easy battlefield use compared to the smaller 8.8.
Hence the delay in fitting it to the Tiger 2.
The point here is that referencing the Jagdpanthers gun as "it was derived from a AA gun which was also serving as anti tank gun" is technically incorrect, I know of no record of the Flak 41 used in the Anti Tank role, perhaps very late in the war, as they were all in Germany.
That would be the role of the Pak 43, a dedicated Anti Tank gun in that cartridge.

It is certainly a handsome tank and necessary to help counter soviet heavy tanks.

Stug IV had a lower profile and was more concealed when moving the tank to line up on targets.
The movement of the jagdpanther would make it easier to see it compared to the Stug.
The Stug III assault gun was very useful in infantry support role with its stubby 7.5cm.
Jagdpanther was good and needed for heavier soviet tanks.

    "Yahgd-pahnther" not "jag-panther."
Speak of gun "traverse" (side-to-side, up and down) not "range".
The side armor of the Jagdpanther is one single plate of forged steel in the same plane from vehicle top to the tracks and front to back. This is the same angle as the side turret armor of the Panther tank!
    Beautiful.
