- I brought my Shimano Aldebaran/Sensilite BFS combo down to the river and decided it would be fun to pursue smallies with the new sizes of Mule Jigs. Bait Finesse System (BFS) is really growing on me. The more I do it, the more fun I have. Pair this fun style of fishing with smallmouth bass and you have yourself a real treat :D

Sloppy Joe, Slop Sloppy Joe. That looked like a ton of fun Ethan! I've got to get out with my BFS and try for some of those river smallies. I like that 1/16th oz with the micro swimbait. I think its a good combo for most water conditions.
I absolutely love the little swimbaits on my Mule Jigs. Crazy confident in this little rig for just about anything that swims!

Excellent video. Have any fly fishermen looked at you sideways fishing baitcast gear for trout yet? Lol I was fishing the headwaters of the Rifle over in Lupton before the season closed and got a few looks and comments.
Haha I usually am pretty isolated when trout fishing but I’m sure I’ll get those looks soon enough 🤣🤣

@@FishAnything I didn't expect them to be so hard to find locally. The trd's are everywhere. Found the trd craws, hogs, and finesse shadz. But still have yet to see the slim swimz 😵
I caught my first fish on a donkey tail Jr and a 1/80 ounce mule jig today it was a nice bluegill.

Alright man, I can't take it anymore. I just ordered the stuff to set up a BFS rig. I've been slowly replacing all my spinning setups with casting setups and this might kick out my last UL spinning setup. Looks like I need to order some more Mule jigs.

So if you remember I was talking to you about doing a micro bass jig. Heres what I have come up with so far.
1/32 Weedless round ball head jig
Mustad size 6 hook
Half tab green pumpkin barb wire skirt
A few strands tan of living ruber
2 inch twin tail grub.
Still in the testing phase with it. I need to play with the weed guard. It's hard to find the balance between too heavy of a weed guard where you set on a fish and never see the jig again and too light where you get hung up on a twig and never see the jig again. Needless to say I have lost a few already lol

Haha yeah they are a weird fish! Mostly in the north but in the Midwest as well.
would it make a big difference if I don't use a BFS reel with this rod? I got it with the intent to help me cast spinners better.
I think you can use that rod without a BFS reel but just be sure not to overpower it. Try to stay within the ratings and don't use too heavy of line.
Do you need like heavy braided line for smallmouth bass? Say like 40 to 50 pound braid, is that too much?
I think that’s too much for smallmouth. I’d use lighter braid if I could. 10-20 is fine!

What rod and reel are you using? What pound line?
Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG / Shimano Sensilite 7' L / I can't remember the line. Might have been nanofil.
Sloppy Joes and SmallJaws; now that’s a good day (and a mondo Rock Bass). So you got your BFS reel from AliExpress? Are they reliable; I found the one reel for $55 in RH and shipped from the US. Just wondering if AliExpress is legit? I also saw that BPS has a Mr Crappie 6’ Light Action Casting Rod available and it’s cheap. My son has the Mr Crappie UL spinning combo and in all honesty; the rod really isn’t that bad.
I love the idea of the Mr. Crappie 6' L Casting rod. Good idea! I bought the Fishband GH100 from fellow Team Dinker but you can definitely target AliExpress. Just target a supplier who has sold a lot and has good reviews - you won't have issues. If you can pay via PayPal, that is super secure and always protected as well.
QUESTION! Hey man don’t know if you will see this but I need some input on a fishing kayak. I’d like something max $1000CAD and i would like for a sit on top with a nice food up seat. I’m a bigger guy 230lbs and would like something of a flatter type. I’d prefer a paddle kayak over the pedal type. A big thing would also be storage and maybe some rod holder mounts. If you have any good ideas you can get back to me on this comment. Thanks man!
For that price, I would consider the Jackson Bite or an Old Town Topwater. Otherwise, keep your eyes our for a used Native Slayer or Bonafide! Buying used is always a good way to save some coin and still get a great rig.

You should sell this combo to me. I’m a left handed fisherman. Left handed bfs are impossible to find. Any left hand reels for that matter
