My First Experience With BFS Fishing (MULTIPLE BIG BASS!)

  • BFS, or Bait Finesse Style, is something I am completely new to! I have been using traditional casting & spinning gear for years but I kept hearing more and more about BFS recently so I had to give it a shot. Fortunately, after putting a post out on social media, I heard from a couple of YOU!
    Micah sold me this Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG / Shimano Sensilite combo. Mark sold me a Fishband GH100. Both of these setups are going to be EXCELLENT! I want to eventually get a 5 - 6' Ultralight Casting Rod for the Fishband. I will likely get it on Aliexpress at some point. Stay tuned for that.
    Clearly, based on the multiple big bass I caught in this video, you can see that I am going to like BFS very much! Honestly, I am super stoked about the fact that I am actually an ambidextrous angler and was able to switch effectively to a LH reel. Stay tuned for more Bait Finesse Style in the future!

    As you all know, I am really trying to embrace light line fishing. BFS will be another part of that. Ultralights are extremely fun too, so they will definitely not be replaced anytime soon :D

    At 6:20 , that was so cool how the bass just kinda sat there for a second after shaking the hook, and then took off like a rocket!

    Hey Ethan, today is the first chance I've had to watch your latest video. The commute from my couch to my kitchen is getting crazy. In fact, there was a two-cat pile up yesterday that delayed my arrival. It was pretty serious too; the black one rolled over, and the grey one was leaking gas.

    i'm considering going lefthanded baitcaster. it seems more logical, using two hands is not optional, but with right hand you cast with one hand then pass the rod to the other to free of the right hand again for reeling, which is a step you skip with a left hand caster., cast right, reel left. the clicker in a reel (well actually ther is normally two, one for when you turn the knob and one for when it feeds out line (both tend to just be little metal tabs that makes a noise with no actual contribution to the function.

    • @FishAnything

    That was pretty outstanding. I haven't used a baitcaster since I started Ned riggin', but this might win me back. My only concern is trying to throw something that light into the wind with a revolving spool. Sounds like a recipe for turning your line into a giant tumbleweed. Also, can I justify investing in yet another rod and reel? I await your next BFS adventure. Thanks for this one.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will be doing lots of BFS adventures in the future so stay tuned! It handled pretty well and there was a bit of wind this day. I think that it is really advantageous for fishing around cover and whatnot just because you increase accuracy. Open water bass such as this trip probably not necessary. But definitely fun!

    I might get this Shimano Alderbaran in the future. I bought that Tsurinoya XF50 reel and matched it to a KastKing 6' UL rod. I like the combo but @raWr Fishing did a video with this combo and had some reliability issues with the reel (slippage). I have one left hand retrieve reel (frog rod) and it's definitely odd for me. I can do it but its weird. Spinning reels on the other hand, I like a left hand retrieve. You caught some nice bass out there with the BFS and it paired well the Ned rig. I'll have to try this. Ugh, so much to do....can we put more time in the day?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) I love how much you just binge watched my videos. TH-cam algorithm might finally reward my channel thanks to you hahaha
      2) I have heard good things about that reel for the price but to your point, who knows if it will last. The Aldebaran 12 BFS XG is definitely a solid pickup and it isn't quite as pricey as some of the higher end Aldebarans. I would recommend it for sure.
      3) if you ever figure out a way to put more time in the day, I will pay you a lot for that haha

  • @brianf.9117
    @brianf.9117 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @0:40 you can slow a spin casting set up down just take a bit of practice, about as much as learning to bait cast. Also the jury is still out on the whole cast right, reel left on bait casting rigs; personally I run either or depending on if I’m jigging/fineness fishing or cranking hard plastics, spinners, etc.

  • @ianpeterson9189
    @ianpeterson9189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I feel like I’d get better blank contact and leverage with lighter baits with a spinning setup, especially with light/ultralight, but who knows, don’t knock it till ya try it ;) Also who was staring at you at 8:49? Creepppy maaan

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I definitely think that this won’t replace my spinning setups by any means. That said, it’s super fun to fish with and very precise. I believe that they are similar but if you want a better drag system, go spinning. If you want potentially better accuracy, go BFS. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’ll have to keep experimenting!
