Bacon sang lead on a couple of songs on one of Mike Oldfield's albums called "Islands". "Magic Touch" was a modest hit (and a great song!) and he also does a duet with Bonnie Tyler on that album called "Islands" that is pretty good. Always liked his voice.
If you ask me, Max Bacon should be the guy fronting Styx right now. Lawrence Gowan is a great keyboardist and singer but the problem is he sounds nothing like Dennis DeYoung. Max Bacon absolutley nails that DDY broadway voice.
It's such a shame the group did only one LP and limited number of live shows. I was in my early 20's when this album came out & it is very special to me. I know every song by heart and I love Max's voice. I sing a little bit but I could never dream of hitting some of those notes. Great lyrics, great tunes - - excellent musicians all. Peace out!

I was lucky enough to see GTR at the Verdun Auditorium back on July 4, 1986. General admission so no seats so we arrived at 1:00 p.m. for an 8 p.m. show. Front row just a few feet away from Steve Howe and Steve Hackett.
Great music! I got this album on CD. When I discus this band I everytime wonder why Max Bacon is forgotten..... he should've been reached the top of the top because his singing is great!
Howe is playing a laúd, a Spanish instrument. Howe calls it his "Portuguese guitar", but from what I gather, it's really a laúd. That's guitar he plays on the first part of I've Seen All Good People and Wondrous Stories.
Why did this Band only last for One CD? They had some of the Best Musicians in the World and the Songwriting was Superb! It must have been Ego problems! Or they just couldn't keep performing Night after night without Max losing his Voice!

got to see them live nyc with my best bud marc...after the show no one went home--hung out around the hotel where the band was staying --kim stuck her head out the window and I yelled :Hi Kim!!"'--she waved back--WHAT A NITE!!!!!
Weird audio mix :/ Glad to see this live footage, but could have stood more volume from Howe's electric guitar. J. Mover's snare and toms weren't loud enough for my liking either. Plenty of Max Bacon and plenty of bass. Anyway, that's my $.02. It's still a thumbs -up from me. Awesome band, they were!!
What are you talking about? They're absolutely using guitar synths. The guitars both Hackett and Howe are playing were built specifically to control his guitar synths, and if you watch carefully, you can see Hackett has both the GR-300 and GR-700 on his pedal board (not sure about Howe, but I think he has a similar setup).
Synths are all Hackett. Howe doesn't have to prove a thing.....he's playing, he's always played. That's my close friend Jonahan Mover on the cans. I'm not 100 % but nothing b mentioned over him. He and Howe and as great and respected the rest of the band is, is dmost talented one up there. He did Satrianis Surfing with the Alien. He was on Fuels big album it escapes me worked with Aretha, Cooper but you gotta see him fly. I've been watching him since he H We were kids. Never forget I show up. He's woodshed g to Jeff Becks There and Back....Space Boogie. Which to him was Simon. It takes me a second. I look back up, ow he's friggin nailing Simon Phillips parts like nothing. And of course he lived up the street. I was best friends with his brother and would just show up and watch him. Today something changed. He taught himself, in a short period of time I remember because I was so surprised, ho a to play ambidextrous. Phe was not only Killin Sapce Boogie and th e legendary Simon Phillips.......he's doing it lefty. And I'm not kidding, uhhh last week you were a righty. Lol. And how he was able to become a better player after that. His chops went through the roof. Moved to London and got that gig. Yup. Figured I'd throw that in there, That's real stuff. I was there. Great video. Great memories. And I always loved Steve Howe. Growing up plating (it was the water in our neighborhood , lots of players) just Howe was huge for me. Thanks for posting.
They did have them on tour, but for the most part, they weren't used (hence the keyboardist they brought on tour). In general, guitar synth technology at the time didn't play well with stage operations as opposed to the studio. :P
This was a classic case of "sum being less than the parts", such a great collection of musical greats (and Max), Steve, Steve and Phil striving to achieve the hieghts that Asia had reached. Max did OK on his Oldfield appearences, had a great voice but no superstar stage presence.

The drummer was kicked out of Marillion for two reasons...1. He had more hair than Fish. 2. He couldn't have a conversation that wasn't about drums or drumming. Fish hated him and did the old 'it's him or me' routine with the rest of the band.
Mover was kicked out of Marillion because Fish was shot down by a girl that took Mover home later the same night. Mover and the girl became an item and a few weeks later she showed up at the studio and Fish blew a gasket.Mover was released the next morning. Documented in the "I'd Hit That" drummers podcast. Look it up on TH-cam. Great interview.
Ya know I went for years with a mullet back in the day not knowing they were a joke until a co worker clued me in lol. Went down the next day and lost it. Donated the hair and it's been short to this day. Love this song, is that a lute Steve howe is playing?
Note also that Steve Hackett still uses the GR-300 and that blue Schecter when for his guitar synth needs even today. I know it's about a decade old now, but on the Somewhere In South American video, you can see him using it on the song In Memoriam. And Pat Metheny still uses a GR-300, as well. I think Metheny said about 10 years ago that the GR-300 was still the best tracking guitar synth he's ever used.
What an album. Probably 1 in 10 most underrated albums of all times
