Maybe my favorite MPC one vid I’ve seen so far. Not just because these are two pieces of gear I have and can’t wait to unlock the potential of pairing of, but just seeing someone work with it in such an abstract way. I got the MPC not to make traditional beats but to experiment with sound collage and sequencing as you’ve done here. Love it.
@@teftymusictechI was wondering though: why not send midi to the freak and just sequence with your MPC instead of relying on the MPCs timestretched keygroups? In any case, cool use of both machines
Nice video with good pacing. I get time to see what you are doing and relax doing so. Sampling my Eurorack/minibrute 2s into the MPC is pretty much how I start most tracks.
Look forward to watching this! I'm sold for now on the MPC, after about a year of use. And I keep thinking of selling the Microfreak to focus and simplify my life, but they keep making it more cool.
looks like Arturia didn't solve the arpeggio export bug at 10:35 .. please Arturia, just make a update and use same as the keystep arp/seq,make it exportable, and , add a shift+key to select channel (to dothis now you need a lot of menu diving). That buggy controller mode destroys the pleasure to play microfreak.
Hi Tefty, would you be able to control the microfreak via MIDI from the MPC (using its pads) while the MPC records the sample from the audio input at the same time ? (hope the question makes sense) Thanks for your feedback, great video !
Yep midi control works both ways through the usb connection.. So using the pads to play sounds on the freak then recording that back into the mpc is pretty simple.
oooh, damn, and I record a synthesizer in a different way, I connect synth to Akai via midi and akai plays with a synthesizer and immediately records it into a looper
Yea just switch to a plugin track and you have control of your vsts. Youll just have to turn the volume down on your freak if you dont want to layer the hardware sounds with mpc instruments.
Thanks Marc! yeah the MPC platform is great but definitely takes time to get used to. Honestly I think it took a solid year before I felt comfortable to just make beats without a bunch questions popping up in my head on how to do something.
@@teftymusictech I jumped into the MPC-world by buying a used MPC X and was shocked to find out that such a complex (and not cheap) machine doesn't come with a proper manual. The documentation really leaves a lot to be desired and almost scared me away. Thankfully there are very helpful tutorials by other users so I'm starting to be able to put it to use properly. I agree that it's pretty nice, once those questionmarks go away.
Double check 'sync' on the output midi in the preferences. Then below the midi settings in the MPC there's a 'send midi clock' setting (I can't remember the exact name). Make sure it's set to MTC. I think it ships with the setting off. If those are all set, then it's a setting in the MicroFreak. Good luck!
I need to figure out the whole key groups part, I've been trying to record my microfreak in for a couple weeks but I only can figure out how to get the sample to do 16 levels
Super easy! When in a drum program and having the pad selected, hit that keyboard icon on the top and it automatically converts it to a keygroup and that's it!
Need din cable for midi clock to be sent to other devices from the MPC. USB carries events but not the clock. Duh. I need to use such a cable for my ARP and note repeat to work on my Akai Advance keyboard hooked to the MPC. Lame, yes.
@@unclemick-synths Syncing a MIDI Controller in Standalone Mode You can connect any class-compliant* MIDI Controller directly to the MPC Live. Simply connect the USB Cable from your MIDI controller to one of the USB ports on the back of the MPC Live. The MIDI controller will automatically send a MIDI signal to the MPC Live. You can also connect a MIDI controller via MIDI cables to the MIDI ports back of the MPC Live. I see you are powering the MicroFreak with USB to the MPC One+. I find that powering the MicroFreak with USB to my PC introduces a lot of noise... basically unusable. Did you have to do anything special here?
So this has to do with noisy motherboards/USB circuits. It doesn't happen on the MPC, but typically anything USB powered on a computer USB port gets dirty power. You can get work arounds by splitting the power from the USB cable though.
This is a good example, which illustrates that you don’t need a huge studio or lots of tools to do something cool. Bonus: the MPC can power the microfreak.

I’ve been thinking a lot about adding a Microfreak to combo with my MPC. This is exactly the affirmation I need
Solid combo! I've experimented with adding an fx box after the MicroFreak as well. Really fun workflow!
I bought it a week ago. So much fun already!
Now that sounded amazing!!
Love how the track turned out and I also like how you used the mpc by sampling the micro freak,
Thank you! This workflow is a lot of fun.

This is inspiring. Nice job!
Very cool way of using the MicroFreak in a track with effects and everything. Good video!
Thanks! The MicroFreak 5 update has been awesome for new sounds

Love that. Great way to start tracks.
Cool combo and ideas..
I have the td3 and a speckular tempus hooked to the Mpc one at the moment..
Nice vibe to that.

Yeah man, they keep making it better and better. Can't wait to see the next update for the MINIFreak.
The MicroFreak is great for vacations. It does so much that I run out of vacation before I run out of things to try!

Nice one. I already got a Stellar Ed. MicroFreak on the way, might also grab an MPC ONE +
Nice! That new skin is sexy.
Possible to get connected with dj controller? Arturia / dj controller .. ?? Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX

What cable do you use to go from the microfreak to the MPC input?
Cool 😎
hello, midi-clock-sync is definitely a bug. spent days to get it work, but failed
Is it possible to have the micro freak act as a keyboard controller for the MPC?
Yea just switch to a plugin track and you have control of your vsts. Youll just have to turn the volume down on your freak if you dont want to layer the hardware sounds with mpc instruments.
Great stuff! I’m not an mpc kind of guy but every time I see that red mpc it looks more gorgeous to me! 😂

I love the idea of the MPC and the only reason I have not pulled the trigger is that Im intimidated....!
It takes time. I only used a small portion of the features for the first year of owning the MPC One (original version).

Hmmmm I've definitely sent clock info over USB to other synths on the MPC before 🤔
Philippe, check the MIDI preferences. Clock send might be disabled or set to MTC.
