    Amazing job Donnalouise! ❤ I am itching to get my hands on the vinyl and Paris puzzles - I think you might be right about them turning up at Worlds 2024 too. Love your recap, it looks like you had a blast 😊 xx

      Thanks Vicky!! I do plan on redoing them many times in hopes that they pop up in a preliminary round. I had so much fun! Wish I could be with your and Janette in the UK - you both will have so much fun together. 💜🧩

    Thank you Donnalouise for this summary. Very nice. Sorry for the situation with your hands during the competition. You did amazing considering what happened with your hands. Be proud of what you have accomplished so far💪🏼🧩

      Thank you!! I am hoping to redo Postcard from Paris soon and think I might be able to get under the hour mark. I have plenty of time to practice it for Worlds. Watch - it probably won't even make an appearance! Hehehehe

    Have I told you how much I love the "build as I sort" :D If I wasn't speedpuzzling that's exactly how I would do it.
    Thanks for covering this event, it's so nice to get some insight of the competitions that don't have live stream.
    So sorry for the tremor :(

      I'm so pleased that you enjoy this method - I love it so much also! I want to redo a few speed runs this way just to see if it would have been better. I know they would love to livestream but it's just the expense and logistics of it all - quite costly. I can only imagine how much they spend for Worlds! 💜🧩

    You did so well!!! It was soo nice to meet you, and I appreciated all the advice and tips you had to give me to get better ❤ The whole weekend was a lot of fun!
    Unfortunately so many people had extra and missing pieces in Postcard from Paris, I had two missing and neither one was in the extra pieces pile 😅 but it was such a beautiful puzzle to do, I loved it!

    Such a great recap video! Your time for the finals puzzle is outstanding!! The build as you sort looked like the perfect way to tackle this one! I have never practiced a puzzle with the build as you sort method, I should try it! The Postcard from Paris will definitely become a regular practice puzzle for Sept! I recently was able to grab copies of Two of a Kind and Hello Vinyl to practice with.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      I so want to get a copy of Two of a Kind. I wonder what puzzles we will get in July for the NZ nationals...??? I was very pleased with my Hello Vinyl time - wasn't expecting that on a first go at all. I will definitely practice these two and all those circle puzzles in prep for worlds. Only a few months and we will be together again in Spain! 💜🧩

  • @booklover6963

    I was wondering if on the last puzzle if you sorted the blue pieces to the side of the puzzle they go on instead of reaching back and forth across the puzzle. It might shave a few minutes hopefully... Great recap looks like everyone had a good time .

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That may have been helpful yes. I think it's because I now have like a standard setup where I try to keep the box and the puzzle...?? I should have thought of that though and shifted where I built the main section of the puzzle. Something to think about for next time. I do often sort the pieces in the region of where they go but didn't this time. Every second counts! 💜🧩

    @joedolceland 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Watching you do the puzzle I go crazy because I see the pieces where they go and I wonder why you don't see them, but obviously, everyone has their method. I did the same puzzle (borrowed by a friend) in 31 minutes and 02 seconds, doing all my subdivisions by color. I always followed you even from the hospital with pain and other things and now I'm forced to stay in bed for two months and walk lightly for a maximum of five minutes a day, imagine my life. I love you, a big hug. Joe🧡

    First of all it's awesome to see your reaction to all that happened. Such a positive actitude, that's the way to go.
    I would say that if there is any chance that the shaking is due to anxiety do go back to listen to music. I feel that it helps to entertain the brain with a beat when on those situations. (coming from someone with anxiety issues) Tiredness might have helped too.
    If you dont mind, keep us poste don how you end up dealing with it and good luck!

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      I definitely was more relaxed at Worlds compared to this competition even though Worlds was much bigger - so maybe the music did help. I thought it may have relaxed me too much so that's why I stopped using it. Perhaps I could start by listening to music just to calm my nerves. I definitely will keep you all updated on how things progress. I feel that although it's quite a personal thing talking about health issues, I feel many can relate and appreciate my honesty and struggle with it.

    Seeing you and The Puzzling Canadian in one picture together is like the clash of the nicest titans! Have you seen Viki Puzzles competing on the Euro Jigsaw Jam? She does the build as you sort method and she has a video of herself doing the NY Postcard in 47 minutes! So your way definitely has merit and I would think in a busy puzzle it would be easier and faster than the full flip if you get distracted or overwhelmed with the full flip.

    Great video Donnalouise! 😊 If you're looking for something that could help with competition nerves, you could look into breathing practices that athletes use. In general: extending your exhale to be longer than your inhale will calm your nervous system. So you could try using the time when you are waiting for the mark to start puzzling to take a dozen deep deliberate breaths and counting seconds so that your exhale is longer than your inhale. :)

    D’Arne gets around! 😅 like you, I do ok in pairs and teams but solo races is what peaks my nerves. 😟 I found noise cancelling headphones helped me at Australian Nationals this year because I found the scale and noise overwhelming otherwise.

      @fortheloveofpuzzles  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They actually played music in the competition area in China - which I forgot to mention in my video. I told them that for next year if they want international puzzlers to come, they can't have music playing. Let each decide if they will wear headphones or not. Also, they want people to take video and share and the music causes copyright issues. Hopefully they will take my advice on board for next year. 💜🧩

  • @Laserstormelpies
    @Laserstormelpies 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I would definitely listen to music during an individuals competition. When I practice speed puzzling I usually put a mix of 90's Jungle Techno on, which is exactly 90min long. I listened to it so much that i kinda know "oh this song plays, 30min passen, oh that one plays, ive been going for an hour" so i dont ever need to look on the timer while working on the puzzle, and the music is fast paced, which helps to remind me to uhh- how to say this: over time - i notice - i will start slowing down gradually. And fast music helps me better to realize when that happens, so my up-time of the "speedy phases" is longer with that music.
    Why exactly did you decide to no longer listen to music during individuals? Is it to take in the noise of your surroundings? Cause that can help to keep you excited and speedy?

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great suggestion!! Maybe I do need to go back to listening to music and I like the idea of it giving me a pace and timing. I thought that listening to music actually relaxed me too much and it was better to be able to hear what was going on around me. I felt it kept me on pace and motivated whereas the music maybe distracted me cause I was singing along to it in my head.

    • @Laserstormelpies
      @Laserstormelpies 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@fortheloveofpuzzles oh - i also dont have the singing along problem, cause most of the music i mentioned has no singing, so maybe - if theres something you enjoy of course, try out osme more ambient things that are still a bit faster in pace. maybe that changes things for you. but im not saying you have to go back to music though. just as a recommendation if you do want to try it. best of luck in seeing what works best for you. ^^
