- In Resident Evil 4 Speedrunning there are quite a lot of categories, but none are even remotely as difficult or brutal as no merchant professional, today im going to show you exactly what makes the no merchant professional speedrun world record so impressive and how its getting more and more optomized all the time.

I find it kinda hard to believe that no merchant was considered a meme run, it sounds like prime speedrun material
Right? It seems like an obvious challenge run, but it's become a thing only recently.
It ultimately just come out to be a slower version of a regular run.
Compare it to like Nemesis% for RE3 which alters the route to accommodate all the extra boss fights (and needing to have the skill and consistency to win all those fights), NOM just means you're doing the same thing but with less to work with, like a Pistol-Start Only Speedrun of Doom.
@@Oilyoxygen but with implementing different strategies, you make it sound as if hes using the same strats, look up the el gigante strats which are very precise
@@Oilyoxygen i did the run a couple months ago and believe me, playing no merchant makes you really a profesional of re4, you learn enemy movements and patterns, use the knife to it limits, and find the most cost efficient ways to kill bosses that you would just rocket in normal runs, it may be slower sure, but at the end you really felt like a damn pro re4 player.
People want everything to be a meme just to say it so. This run takes skill

I caught that too, I wonder if costumes that don't have gameplay effects are okay, like giving Ashley pants for marathons and the like.
Any costume is allowed on pro difficulty since they don't alter Gameplay in pro
The rpd outfit is considered default because it doesn’t give u an advantage that others playing for the 1st time wouldn’t have.
@@NOmebanees Leon’s gangster outfit is not allowed because it gives Ashley the suit of armor which makes her invincible therefore giving the player an advantage against those playing the game for the first time don’t have.
@@conqueeftador5332 Well another thing considering how optimized the RE4 speedrun is, wearing the gangster outfit is actually slower than not wearing it. The animation for catching Ashley is a lot slower and you lose a couple of seconds over the course of the run, but I do believe it saves time when you play as her so that might make up for it.
It always used to make me unreasonably angry when people would say "I did a No Merchant run, oh, but I still bought the attache case upgrades, because that doesn't count." Kind of like "I'm a vegetarian, except for bacon. And pork. And beef. And meat."
Or like saying I don’t smoke tobacco, just weed, but then goes on ahead and rolls up a swisher
or "oh I made no damage run except on tripwires, because I had to save ammo"

After you explained all this, this category does not sound like a meme category at all. This has some really neat strats and takes just as much skill, and maybe a bit more luck, as New Game Pro.
What does "meme category" mean?
@@Resimaster I think it really means its niche and more of a novelty run for entertainment to see if a runner can do it once. With a competitive run, you can find runners actually grinding a run which breeds competition.
TL;DR: Meme runs = entertainment/often run only once for speed runners out of curiosity. Competitive = Runners focus on that category and optimize it as much as possible

New game professional is so fucking hard to master. And small mistakes can kill your run. But believe it or not, speedrunners have set a tone for regular players to be able to get though otherwise difficult or intimidating rooms with very little or no resources.
What the streamer says at 8:50: "What am i supposed to do? There're enemies to the left, middle, upstairs... what do i do? Do i go downstairs? You tell me what i do..."

It's usually like that in pretty much all RE games, you find shotguns and smgs or grenade launchers or other weapons but story wise and cutscene wise they always are holding the pistol you first see them with
When you are controlling Ada tho you see Leon using the sub machine gun i think its name was tmp and when you are at the last chapter you see the ai leon using a shotgun and other weapons
This also fixes the plot hole of why the hell there's this merchant following along
@@mariaroseneideferreiradear2317 Yeah in Separate Ways, you can see AI Leon using Riot Gun against Saddler.
I love these types of videos. I personally don't speed run anything, but learning about how they're done is so interesting.
And they find strats that make the game easier for non-speeders too.
The fact this guy can beat the game faster than me on new game plus with op weapons on the same difficulty is insane

I once tried speedrunning Halo: CE because I'm a completionist and a few of the achievements required getting under the par time, which I usually tried the speedrun tech for, and let me tell you, it's not easy. Halo: CE speedruns require a shit ton of skill. Hell, I had trouble with the first grenade boost on the level "Halo"

There's nothing wrong with glitches in speedrunning. That's why the community makes multiple categories. Twitch chat tends to have a big mouth when it comes to subjects they seldom understand.

Lol I know Twitch chat got flooded by redditards haha, all glitches equal bad just like boomer equal bad and too long to read I don't participate in things that arent popular or dosn't makes me popular dopamine addiction popular person wannabes.
As a proffesional gamer, if the category is called glitches, everything goes regardless of how much is saves, people who cry about it think being admins or speedrunners means anything.

When you find out 12 years after your last non- emulator playthrough that you had prime speedrunning strategy a decade before career speedrunners
But still pissed hours away on the most tedius parts of the game
I like how a version of my El Gigante strat was used at 5:48. The only difference being the Flash 'nade instead of the 3 shotgun blasts to cause his Plaga to appear.

Nice! I had seen some videos of this challenge recently that had really got me wanting to do it. Not in any speedrun capacity; I've always been a very slow, methodical player, especially in RE4. But as a challenge run, it sounds fun, and it sounds like the best way to cap off my OG playtime before the remake comes along.

The best part of this is that the remake has a challenge where you beat the game without talking to the merchant ever. so this truely isn't a meme category anymore.
On saddler if you use the handgun and shoot out the eyes on the back of his legs it’s even faster.
Haven’t tried it but if you add in some magnum hits in there and you could probably zoom that fight even more.
I beat RE4 on Gamecube/PS2/PC all 100% but no merchant? No thank you very much. The fact it's even possible on pro is amazing.

I actually did a speed run that hit just under 5 hours. No merchant, but in 1-2 just before you go the the house to end the chapter you go down to the fish area and get all of the fish there, and every egg you get you have to keep. It makes the no merchant much harder. I call it no merchant breakfast club. You are only allowed to use the fish and eggs at the saddler fight.

Love it, I did it on the wii as a kid. First time I got soft locked on any challenge, in the castle "water hall". I did beat the challenge, and not just once But this speedrun looks crack.
