- Tough, courageous, a leader. It didn’t matter whether Sam was on an edge or in the middle, you knew he was going to turn up each and every week and give it his all. SUBSCRIBE NOW - bit.ly/3gibFa2
Coming through South Sydney as a 21-year-old, Burgess started at 13 and then made the switch to second row, before finishing up his career in the middle again at Prop.
Not the new-age ball-playing Lock we see today, Burgess was more of the rough-and-tumble kind; somebody who would look to make a statement through his actions. He admitted that he was probably born a generation too late judging from the brand of football he played. Craig ‘Tugger’ Coleman also said if there was somebody from the modern era he would love to have in his side, it was Sam Burgess.
That’s what summed up Sam Burgess; teammates loved playing with him because they knew he would never shy away from the challenge. A true warrior of the game.

One in a generation footballer. Tied with Inglis for my all time fave Rabbitohs.
Footballer?
Yes, footballer is an absolutely correct name to call a rugby player from either code of rugby though it's probably most commonly used in rugby league these days. Both codes of rugby are a form of football, they're just called rugby football. Many different types of football had been played for centuries in just England alone before the British started to standardise the rules of 'association football' and took it around the world.
One of the Greatest players of all time, maybe the GOAT forward.
One of the best no doubt a legend
Makes me proud and I'm 5'7". Well, I was. I'm 65 now.
