He is probably the best swedish comedian as far as "family friendly" comedy goes.

Johan is definitley one of the greats, he was a member of "Kvarteret Skatan" which had a long running sketch show and a movie. He is often paired with David Batra as a great comedic duo.

Yeah, he is one of the best in Sweden in my opinion but also he is very popular. My family loves him and when people sometimes bring pastries on a Thursday, we look at each other like "Patries? ON A THURSDAY?!"

  • @Charkel

Regarding the joke "On a Thursday?!"
In Sweden we try to keep unhealthy things to a minimum during the week and indulge on weekends normally Saturday. We have something called "Lördagsgodis" (Saturday candy) which is mostly for kids meaning kids only eat candy on Saturday evening. Back in the 90's early 2000's this was the practice for like 99% of kids. Today parents give in to giving their kids candy way to often during the weeks but all kids know on Saturday evening it's guaranteed. I would even go as far as to say if a parent would constantly deny their kid the Lördagsgodis the social workers would be on the case, no joke.

I dont think its more common to give kids candy on the weekdays today then lets say 30-40 years ago. We talk much more about eating less sugar in society today. In pre-schools in the 80’s it was common to eat icecream when a kid had a birthday, drink fruit drinks (saft) and cinamon-buns on fridays etc. Today all of that is seen as too unhealthy - its seens as enough that the kid will probably eat pastries at home during the weekend and cake/icecream at home to celebrate their birthday.
      .
So it was more liberal (when it come to products containing sugar) 30-40 years ago, even though ”real” candy was only eaten on saturdays in most households - just like today. It is also more common today to limit how much candy your kid eat on saturdays more. If the kid is five the parents might say that their allowed to choose five pieces of candy for an ex.

He has a pretty thick Scanian accent, which enhances the comedy IMHO. It's considered a pretty funny, distinct accent.

I think Johan Glans is the best comedian we currently have, maybe only second to Robert Gustafsson.
What makes him my favorite, is the fact that he uses observational and relatable humor, instead of vulgar or crass jokes, to entertain his audience!

Johan has been around for decades! I saw him like 20 years ago live when he wasn't that big but still had gigs in Stockholm.

Sometimes you can see that Johan Glans is inspired by Eddie Izzard - or at least I think so; his physical humour in World Tour of Scandinavia is excellent!

I remember one time when he was telling quite a long story and then came to the punch line to early, by mistake, but decided to continue as nothing had happened to then deliver the punch line again at the right point.

Johan Glans, Robert Gustavsson and Per Andersson is top three best swedish comedians alive today they are on another level. You should look up Gösta Ekman. A very popular comedian/actor in the 80s in sweden. Robert Gustavsson inspires alot of his material from him. ;)

Easy to like, no dividing comedy. Quite a lot of recognition comedy, and like you said self-deprecating comedy

Johan Glans is turning 50 tomorrow (April 9). He is a bit too self depriving and cringy for my taste. I remember his extremely cringy stories in "Tror du jag ljuger?" (the Swedish version of "Would I Lie to You?"). The most cringy stories from him always tended to be true! Other Swedish comedians in the cringy and self depriving genre are Per Andersson and David Batra!

Great video🎉 but the subtitles were a bit dull compared to the reality of his flowery rhetoric. Like pastries, sure it's a translation but dont capture the weirdness of the word in Swedish. Straight translation is wheat bread. Funny translation would be some quirky british synonym for pastries. Or whatever.

Btw, Skåne is our southernmost region. It’s historically Danish, and Sweden has occupied it for a shorter time than we occupid Finland iirc.
While Skåne speaks Swedish, their accent is heavily influenced by Danish, and in the past it practically spoke its own language.
Keep in mind that the line between language and dialect here in Sweden is pretty thin.
Älvdalska (Elfdalian), spoken in Älvdalen municipality in the Dalarna region, is agreed to be its own language by most linguists, but it is officially a dialect of Swedish according to the government.
So with that context in mind, his Stockholm dialect imitation is really good. His Finland-Swedish dialect is on point as well.
