Nice review, I am from Ecuador and have a Keeway Superlight 200, looks just the same as the 125 but adds an oil radiator. as said in this presentation, yes the tires really suck they are not to be trusted in humid or wet conditions. the head light is poor, just needs to be changed for one that does the job, the gas gauge is uncomfortable to see...that in the downside.
On the other hand, the bike is very reliable, nice engine, soft ride, easy to handle, it is not a speed bike, it's a cruiser, so speed is out of the question. I ride it on a daily basis from my home in the valley to the city of Quito and back, that is a 40 mile ride with 50% going up-hill. Without forcing the machine, in 5th gear it runs at an average of 80-90 Km/h at 6000 RPM; going in a flat, non-hill road, it will take 110-120 Km/h.
I do recommend this bike, looks nice, behaves nice, does the job and it is very economical.
Back here again...I have done a few 'minor' modifications to my Keeway Superlight 200, the first an no really minor, was changing the tires to a set of Pirelli's, these work so much better that the original Cordial which came as stock...the second little thing was that I changed the air intake, cancelled the original and added a conic intake...gives me 3 or 4 HP increase. The sound is accute, but it is running great.

Hi Jose. You have said that you drive to the hills with the bike. How does it behave when driving uphill? I was condidering this bike but I live in a part of the town which is quite higher then the rest of the town and I'm worried that motor cannot handle it.
what do you think is the gas consumption of this bike? is it okay for everyday use? atleast 16km of riding ty

Excellent review. I drive a 4.6 Mustang, which is very heavy on fuel, so I was thinking of getting something more economical for routine trips, and figured a bike was the way to go, although the closest I've ever come to riding one was watching episodes of 'Sons of Anarchy', and the Superlight looks great as well as being cheap to run and might be the solution I've been looking for.

I'm getting a used one that's been fixed up on Saturday and It can't come soon enough. Especialy since here in the UK we have to complete a day of Compulsary basic training on a 125 before we can go on any land that isn't private. So that's my Friday. Ive been driving cars and riding bicycles for 27 years so I've been looking forward to this and it's been a long time coming. Really enjoyed your clear straightforward run down thankyou.

A small technical correction to your review:
you have stated the engine output to be 8 Horse power, while it is 8 Kilo watts. which means, it has around 10.9 horse power.
the conversion multiplier between kilo watts and horse power, is 0.734 KW for each 1 horse power.

I first spotted this bike when riding around london. I liked the design but didn't know who keeway were. When researching, I became quite wary of recommending anyone to ride this pretty Chinese bike. I also tried searching for where I could find spare parts for it...wasn't easy.
Having said that, if someone is interested in getting a cheap and pretty Harley wannabe bike which is legal for L plate riders in the UK and is not fussed about depreciation and low resale value, this is the bike for you before you upgrade to something bigger.
I look forward to seeing how keeway develops in the years to come.

4:00 That has nothing to do with power, it's got to do everything with engine temperature and choke, though.
Some day I’ll be getting one. Despite the flaws, it seems to be enjoyable journey into motorcycles, especially with first bike. Fairly cheap, good looking, sounds good, and with defects you learn to fix stuff.

Now, the positives. This is a good first bike: Low power (meaning low acceleration and top speed, and therefore a greater margin of error for a rookie), relatively light and, I would say, reasonably good looking (on that department, the only change I made was to remove the large white letters saying KEEWAY on each side of the seat; I don’t need to pretend to ride an Indian, but I also don’t like to advertise in large letters that my bike has the name of a cheap soda). Low power also means that it’s a slog climbing up hills. With the world renown patience of Portuguese drivers, I can tell you it’s a lot of fun.
I’m short so I also benefit from the low riding position. The seat is very soft, excellent for short rides, but makes my ass numb during longer ones.

It is a lovely bike I am in the process of getting one at the moment. My Honda cbf 125 is on deaths door, when I see this bike in the shop I just kind of fell in love with it. It won't be as fast but it will be a welcome change in look and riding style. I was slightly worried about the reliability being from China but knowing it's made in Europe has put my mind at rest some what :)

Secondly, rust is showing in several places, including the chain. I bought and have been using an anti-rust spray, and it helps (rubbed with an old toothbrush). Still, as mentioned, the bike is only a little over 1 year old. I should say that I live by the sea and the mechanic I go to tells me that this is a particular bad area in that department. He said that is usual for him to see BMWs and other bikes covered in it. I’ve noticed the same thing with cars around here, with the paint looking like it peeled off.

FYI the bestsellers in France are very different for the ones in Portugal : 1) MP3 500 ; 2) X-Max 125 ; 3) T-Max 530 ; 4) Kawa Er6 ; 5) Kawa Z800... No Pcx, No Keeway, Nor NC-700 in the top 10. The ranking of the most stolen bikes is almost the same : 1) T-Max 530 ; 2) MP3 500 ; 3) Yamaha BWs / MBK Booster 50 ; 4) Kawa Z800...
I purchased the 07 model which only had just a little over 1000 miles on the clock as its previous owner had it garaged for many years. It was pretty much mint condition and just needed the battery replacing... Been riding it 4 months now and I'm kind of regretting it. The gears stick from time to time (not a deal breaker at all, just annoying), I've had nuts fall off, a bolt brake off so the thread now needs to be drilled to extract it out, the mirrors don't tighten near enough to withstand wind so they're constantly moving, the bracket for my carburetor cover also snapped off, the exhaust has came loose, the tires aren't the best in wet conditions and the bike just vibrates way too much and has a lot of rattle, hence nuts coming loose.
The newer models may have these issues resolved, but I do regret not going for something more reliable.
I do genuinely like the bike though, just little things happens too regularly which makes me question how long it's going to last.
The only reason why I'm getting a 125cc is because that's the max cc I can get at 16 in Ireland and I'm looking at the keeway superlight (not this one but the one with the saddle bags etc) and any um renegade 125,thank you for the review

It does have a very nice look,doesn't it.A few reasons that small displacement bikes do not sell well in the US are no licensing restrictions,more wide open spaces,cheaper gas than Europe,and a cultural thing of thinking that bigger is better.It does seem to be changing some but small is considered 250cc to 400cc.Congrats on adding another bike to the stable and I hope that it serves you well. I voted today,did you guys vote?

Hi Richard Bygrave, did you get your bike? How does it feel? I'm going to study to a place fairly away from home and I have three options to get there:
- take 1 hour and half with public transportation
- take half an hour with the car but spending a massive amount of money in fuel
- make an investment and buy a cheap, fairly quick and reliable 125 engine because I don't have the A2 licence
Would you recommend this bike?

There is another problem with the bike (all of them, it seems, not just mine): when trying to go from first to neutral the pedal gets stuck. So, if I stop at a red light and want to put it in neutral, I’m forced to give it a little gas to loosen it (it’s the only thing that seems to work), which I guess makes me look like an asshole to anyone around me, listening to me accelerate for no reason. Turning the engine off solves the problem, so it isn’t an issue when you want to park. I read somewhere that Keeway cloned the engine of a Yamaha and that the original had this problem… Nothing but thorough, the Chinese, when it comes to stealing other people’s work.

A quick review to anyone considering buying this bike: Mine is a Superlight LE 125, bought a little over a year ago and with only c. 2500km.
First thing, replace the Chinese Cordial tires it comes with! They are VERY DANGEROUS under wet weather. I suspect almost anything you buy will be an improvement. I bought 2 Metzeler and, to my amazement, noticed the difference immediately, even in dry weather. So, again, unless you live in the middle of the desert, replace the tires (I live in Portugal and still felt the need for it...).

Thirdly, only a week ago I had to take her to the mechanic. The problem, I was told, was with a tube somewhere that broke. The reason being the use by Keeway of a cheap plastic material, and with the vibration, it cracked. Because the tube had a certain extra, all they had to do was pull it a bit and the problem was temporarily solved (they didn’t charge me anything, so I wasn’t picky). But of course, the tube is the same, and the problem is likely to show up again later. I was told mine wasn’t the first they had seen with this issue. Worse, they told me Keeway was ordering their representatives not to include this particular problem in the guarantee.

Cager, here in Denmark you aren't allowed to drive a 125ccm bike with a regular car license. Regular car license here is 50ccm max. Then we have the A2 bike license which is 125 ccm max, A1, which is 500 ccm and 48 HP max. And then the Full on A level which is unrestricted.
I think the driving license regulation is the same within the whole EU now, here in Germany as well but the A1 is 125 ccm and the A2 is up to 48 bhp max and then the fully unrestricted A ... it´s very stupid though, I liked it better before ...
Yes, it's almost the same in France. There are 4 categories of motorcycle licence : Am (certificate delivered in midschool) up to 50cc, A1 up to 125 cc, A2 up to 48 cv, A for bigger bikes. Previously, car drivers could ride scooters and bikes up to 125cc after the second anniversary of their B licence. Because they had lot of accidents, the State now requires a 7 hour formation (without examination) in addition of the B licence. It allows them also to ride 3-wheelers more than 125cc, like the Piaggio MP3 300 or 500, very popular in France.
Here you are just allowed to ride 50ccm scooters when you have the B license, because it includes the AM (formerly just M) license and 3 wheelers too :)
A1: max 125cc, 15hp(11kw)
A2: unrestricted ccm, 48 hp (can be restricted from 96)
A: full license.

Bottom line, I wouldn’t mind a bit more power and, while not expensive, there are other 125s, even by Keeway, that are cheaper, though not as good looking. Still, to me at least, it strikes a reasonable balance between price-performance-looks. I didn’t mention fuel consumption, I haven’t bothered to measure it, but it seems to be low. It is too early to draw too many conclusions regarding reliability, even if the early signs aren’t promising. I’m not sure I would buy it again, knowing what I know now. And maybe that’s the conclusion to draw: it’s a so-so, ok bike. Keep your expectations low and you may enjoy it.

Well you get what you pay for( old expression ) for me in north America I would preferr a used. 250 v twin yammaha or a sussuki s40...650 cc single cy...both great smaller cruiser styled bikes.......good used is always better than new crap.I do enjoy 99% of your stuff.

This is not a chopper! It’s a “cruiser” style with the big fenders and the bigger wheel at the front. You obviously haven’t been riding very long. Where are you? The scenery was beautiful on your ride.

Yes, it is light, don't have huge torque that will make it jump, and easy to control.
I like the bike personally because in the UK you can ride this at 17 which is so goood at picking up girls

Loose bolts and badly aligned rear wheel are not manufacturers "..flaws....". The bike arrives at the dealer in a cardboard sided metal crate. The ASSEMBLY and PDI are the responsibility of the Dealer. 'Running-In' is advised by all manufacturers - except - they often do it via a running-in period rev limiter in the ECU software.

Thanks for the review, in indonesia this bike named Benelli Motobi 200. Now I'm very sure to not buy this bike. I'll choose Kawasaki W175 SE. The prices here almost similar.
First of all ... these motorcycles are being shipped in pieces. They are fitting it in the dealership. So the screws have no reason to be lose. Whoever told you that is full of shit .... Also about the wheel not being straight, it's again the dealership`s fault because they fit the parts. So whenever stuff like this happens just shout at them cause they are at fault.
Certainly looks nice and for this price it seems to be a good bargain ... but 8bhp is really not much, most 125 ccm bikes have 11 to 15 bhp here .. anyway congrats to your wife, hope you both have fun riding around :)
Sure, I don´t think it would be much faster, average speed of the 125ccm bikes with 11 to 15 bhp is still 110-120 km/h here but I mean it would be more comfortable riding in the city and overtaking other cars ... :)
