As a black dude I can tell you that when I moved here from NYC in 2018 I used to enjoy the craziness of south beach during the holidays. Been waiting three months for this one! : D The Art Deco District is easily my favorite aesthetic in the whole country. I'm glad that a show like Miami Vice was able to officially help preserve it!
Activists who cared preserves the Art Deco District before greed could totally take over what was formerly the poorest place in the country. Read Gerald Posner's Miami Babylon book.
I've been living on the Beach since 1979 Miami Vice promoted a fake fantasy showing slim bikinied women and hot night life there. In the 1980s when it was filmed most of the population of Miami Beach was 65 or older. Prune juice was the most popular drink. Fashion was support stockings and orthopedic shoes. A set of wheels wasn't a Corvette or Porshe but a folding shopping cart to take to Publix supermarket. For variety we had some petty criminals including small time drug dealers. The Versace mansion was one of many shabby, old hotels in the area. The sidewalks were rolled up at 9 pm when the local residents put their dentures in a glass and went to bed.
There is an element that can be found in all color of skin demographics. This element is disrespectful and at times a threat to public safety. Most people just love it when law enforcement runs the element off. There is also an element that can be found in all color of skin demographics that enjoys having a good time and is respectful and pleasant.

I'm never quite sure why Nick has these smarmy mayor types on, with all of their self-serving rhetoric, unless it's to get them to condemn themselves out of their own mouths.
I think age demographic and overall racial demographics play a huge role here. Younger people tend to be drawn to beaches for partying and hooking up. However, when certain demographics move in...it always up like NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, etc.
Stimi check women, spendin' them stimi checks. Once we get rid of the Democrats, and stop paying people to behave, they won't be going to spring break anywhere. It will be back to Atlanta, sorry Atlanta.
@@GooseEggBobby I respectfully disagree, there are lots of dodgy white people....drugs, poverty and bad behaviour flourish irrelevant of colour. That said, you gotta be sensible and read the scene, but without prejudice.
South beach used to be the place to go. Models, actors, the real "in" crowd wanted to go and be seen there. The clubs were fabulous and a big draw. Like anywhere else though the shine goes off the apple and people find a new "in" place to go. Then the hotels and clubs start to discount and the trashier crowds start to arrive. That is what is happening here.
You rock, Nick! If I lived down there, I would live in Mid Beach in one of the single family homes. Beautiful homes there and in North Beach and all the beautiful trees 🌳 🌴. South Beach looks like a lot of fun, but I’d go in the off season and the daytime and weekday nights.
Yeah nighttime kinda sucks (depending on the week), too many inner city people from nearby areas or from other states go at night and it can get rowdy/trashy and not in a good way.
@@Monkofthecaribbean yes. We almost moved to South Beach 5 years ago, moved from up north. But, decided on South Pompano beach near Lauderdale. So glad we did. @@thedirtybubble9613 A relatively small city in the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico. I’ve been splitting my time for almost a year and I feel much safer and happier there. Low cost of living, nice people, great food, and short flight back to S Florida when I want to see friends and family
My first 2 trips to Miami were both in February, so luckily not many out of town spring breakers or whatever goes on. Overall I had a quiet trip without much trouble but during the summer the south beach is hectic/ratchet and should be avoided .
We‘ve been to Miami regularly with the first time being in 1989. Back then it was a retirement spot which had a very relaxed atmosphere. We saw a lot of construction on the Art Deco district that year. In the years later South Beach was just magic. Every evening of our holidays we went to the News Cafe where a mix of interesting people were having a good time. It really felt a lot like Miami Vice. In the early 2000s things seemed to have changed to be much more commercial, however still being pleasant with a nice vibe and we always felt safe with our young kids. We’ve just been in Miami Beach again this April and were very disappointed what has happened to South Beach. The magic feeling is almost gone and it’s just a stupid noisy party. We felt safe and it’s still beautiful, but somehow it’s a different place now. Where did the old stylish South Beach go? And News Cafe - the iconic restaurant on Ocean Drive - has been closed. Looking at recent reviews before closing its quality seemed to had changed to the worse. It’s really sad - but still it’s a nice place for holidays when you read Google Maps reviews before going out for dinner there.
Being a native Miamian, I found it very interesting to hear the way Miami Beach was described in this video; especially, the use of Mid-Beach. The northern parts of the beach does have more than just homes, but it is mostly residential; great Beaches, also! South Beach is mostly tourist and Miami Dade County residences that's aren't Miami Beach locals. No one from Miami actually go to South Beach on non eventful days. What is being called Mid Beach; which is really just Miami Beach, is the actual beach that I would say locals use. I personally like this beach and Haulover Beach, which is the northern part of the area. I think this is a good look at the beach as a whole though.
My friends and I often bicycle from North Miami Beach (entirely different city) to South Beach and back, and yes, it’s become very biker friendly in recent years. Property values are insane. I live in Southwest Broward, and my home has nearly quadrupled in value in 20 years. I do recommend that you head a bit north to Oletta State Park (North Miami Beach) and rent a kayak on the weekend. Row out to the Haulover Sandbar, and hit the good boats. Hundreds of boats out there, and do much fun. Next, hit Hollywood Beach. Best family beach in South Florida. Lots of mom and pop shops, and a great Broadwalk.
My favorite part of Miami Beach is NO WAY IN HELL Beach, I'd rather drive a couple of hrs west or north to get away as far as possible from the low life cesspool.
Once again, I’m from Miami, born and raised. And let me tell you, South Beach is overrated af. I can’t speak for every local, but I’m one of those Miamian’s that avoids tourist spots at all costs. You can find me on the other side of the causeway 😂 somewhere in the hood.
I've seen things like this happen in other cities where I lived. At first the party street is real cool for a a few years and then it goes downhill. I think that some of the businesses are to blame. I notice that the business flavor changes. It starts with chain stores but then locals start opening cheap pizza joints, smoke shops, sneaker stores, etc. So it doesn't really cost that much to handout down there anymore. This brings in a whole different type of crowd ... very young and very urban. I work with several party promoters from time to time and they have gone to a strict 30 and over for their events. They don't get the perfect upscale crowd but it looks like more than half of the trouble makers are gone just by raising the age. I remember when 18 was an adult, now they don't start maturing until 30 ....
Blame the businesses. What the hell is the matter with you? It is animals acting up causing crime. Nothing less. Why not blame the guns for the shootings?
I hate Miami Beach and Hollywood Beach. These places used to be beautiful, now its dirty, noisy and full of creepy people who only want to get drunk. the property is too damn expensive, there is never any parking and there's always somw kind of petty crime or drama.
Born and raised in Miami and I never touch South Beach unless it’s south of 5th street. Post Covid it’s been hectic with everyone from up North coming down to cause mayhem. Shootings, stabbings, drunken brawls, muggings, etc. South Beach has always had its issues but it’s been out of control the last two years specifically.
So here i am again... tagging along on your tour of Florida. Really enjoyed your Outer Banks drive through as well. My absolute favorite place and very much hoping i can still move the awesome state of NC...live out the rest of my middle aged life where I'm happiest. Thanks for being a good distraction.😊👍🤍
And yes, the city of South Beach is trying their best to remove rift-raft from causing issues. We shall see because the bars really are fighting against it. However, it gets real crazy on Memorial Day and Spring Break. Other weekends it’s a bit more calm.
I live in area and anyone I know does not go to this beach because it’s not easy to get to unless you are staying on beach. Parking is expensive and not plentiful so unless you get there really early you can forget about it. The area is crowded and unless you are very young and good looking you stick out like a sore thumb. Locals go up to beaches in Fort Lauderdale, west palm beach, treasure coast beaches or around Naples. When it rains a lot of streets will flood because drainage system in place was not meant for all development that is there now. This means all the people who pay top dollar to live along beach and in one of many many high rises, will find there parking garage flooded along with streets. I would be very pissed if I were paying top dollar to live there meanwhile the streets flood, the parking garages flood plus the unruly crowds the constant traffic and noise oh hell no I wouldn’t put up with that
The biggest problem South Beach have is the alcohol laws, the bad crowd comes to Miami Beach because of the open container laws in public allows them to walk around with drinks everywhere and the last call for alcohol is at 6am. The bad crowd will keep coming to Miami Beach to act as fool and crazy for as long as the alcohol laws stay the same.
Yea, it's called freedom. Most of the world does the same , the difference in the United States is that you can only drink till 6am in like 4 cities so of course everyone is going to flock to Miami, Nyc, Vegas . If it were legal to drink till 6am all over the United States and at 18 ( like the rest of the world ) alcohol wouldn't be such an issue with Americans.
@@Utubedeletescomments Back home in Puerto Rico the legal age for dinking alcoholic drinks is 18, it's okay to drink in public, gas stations are allowed to sell alcoholic beverages 24 hours, but most bars and festivities stop the sale of alcoholic beverages at midnight. In Puerto Rico loud music isn't permitted after midnight. Miami Beach is a multicultural city and they welcome everyone to have a great time but it's time to stop all the madness. Loud music should be banned, open container alcoholic drinks in public should be banned, and last call for alcohol should be at 2Am.
@@Utubedeletescomments Am telling the city of Miami Beach the best thing they can do is to stop serving alcohol after 2am in the morning. Any adult who wants to drink alcohol after 2am can stack up their place with alcoholic beverages and drink till 6am.

The entire stste of Florida is a freakin mess.i moved here in 1971 from Long Island NY . Tampa was a very nice quiet city in those days and it started to change in the late 1980s. we always get the same reasons for why people move here to Florida taxes are low, no state income taxes, sun and fun, great fishing. lack of taxes will show you what you get for your money, no transportation systems at all in the bigger cities, an overburdened school system, tax dollars used to support private schools, you want your kids to go to private schools you pay for it out of your own pocket.there is no affordable housing for young people just starting out or for seniors. this place is turning into a state where only the rich will be able to live. and yes crime is on the rise that's no suprise at all. here in Florida we need to get our act together real soon.
Probably the most accurate video you made. Miami is now totally for the rich. Mid and lower are leaving in droves as everything has become unaffordable. Another NYC without the rent freeze.
Wow lived in Miami back in 2010 worked off of Alton and Lincoln and it was not this GHETTO amazing how it has changed. Back in the days clubs like Liquid, Mansion, etc. This looks terrible now very different vibe. Well enjoyed it when it was still good. Live in Texas now and its great!

Good interview... I was hoping you would mention Miami Vice, great show. Thanks Nick🌞🏖️

I remember when SoBe was so chill and laid back. Now it’s just ghetto!
I'm not sure why, but your commentary is especially funny in this video lol.
He's a funny and good humoured dude
At “there is a change in dealing with THESE crowds” I started laughing
i went to south beach last week during the day and honestly it's pretty chill during the daytime, but looks like the night time sucks
Agree.
My first 2 trips to Miami were both in February, so luckily not many out of town spring breakers or whatever goes on. Overall I had a quiet trip without much trouble but during the summer the south beach is hectic/ratchet and should be avoided .
Most people from Florida don't go to south beach and I'm black.
Springs break is the WORST, summer is actually very chill.
Summer is quiet, there is good weather in the tourists' home states and towns so they don't need to travel for warmth.
@@dexterlee6938 exactly but April is perfect time to go to south beach LMAOOOO all the spring break nonsense is over
Love that commissioner of Miami Beach speaking the truth. Spot on man. Good stuff. TY.
Went to Miami in 2011 just to drink and party and good to see not much has changed. Damn, I miss being young 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Great video, speaking the truth! Never back down.
I built the billboard boat seen around 10:00 , was built in Albany Ny.
Ballyhoo Media
9:42 I didn’t get to see it with your time stamp , btw that’s cool I have seen it before
My friends and I often bicycle from North Miami Beach (entirely different city) to South Beach and back, and yes, it’s become very biker friendly in recent years.
Amen brother I feel same way
Exactly
Once again, I’m from Miami, born and raised. And let me tell you, South Beach is overrated af. I can’t speak for every local, but I’m one of those Miamian’s that avoids tourist spots at all costs. You can find me on the other side of the causeway 😂 somewhere in the hood.
I live here also and never ever go there. Usually go to Fort Lauderdale or up to west palm beaches
The Grove is my spot.
South Beach started local and then becomes corporate that urged the blacks to come. Trust me the locals didn’t and don’t want the blacks there.
Blame the businesses. What the hell is the matter with you? It is animals acting up causing crime. Nothing less. Why not blame the guns for the shootings?
@@thomasgibson8025 the businesses? Riiiight. It’s the blacks. If the truth hurts, it’s still the truth.
I agree. If they cannot afford it, they wouldn't be there. The drinks are likely cheap and the parties go on until 5am there.
Nick you’re on point, 💯 truth. The whole scene has changed for the worse.
Hi Nick & everyone, Thanks for sharing, Regards from, Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺👍
I hate Miami Beach and Hollywood Beach. These places used to be beautiful, now its dirty, noisy and full of creepy people who only want to get drunk.
the property is too damn expensive, there is never any parking and there's always somw kind of petty crime or drama.
Great video Nick. You always do such a wonderful job. 👏
I have overheard "liberals" who regularly say the official party lines return from a weekend in South Beach saying , "Never again"
@@mike-uw6wt ?
The GHETTO crowd ruined south beach, but we aren't supposed to say that out loud.
So here i am again... tagging along on your tour of Florida. Really enjoyed your Outer Banks drive through as well. My absolute favorite place and very much hoping i can still move the awesome state of NC...live out the rest of my middle aged life where I'm happiest.

Absolutely love your videos! Always spot on
And yes, the city of South Beach is trying their best to remove rift-raft from causing issues.
I would be very pissed if I were paying top dollar to live there meanwhile the streets flood, the parking garages flood plus the unruly crowds the constant traffic and noise oh hell no I wouldn’t put up with that
Maybe host is upset and didn’t fit in south beach because he isn’t young and good looking.
@@Utubedeletescomments
Back home in Puerto Rico the legal age for dinking alcoholic drinks is 18, it's okay to drink in public, gas stations are allowed to sell alcoholic beverages 24 hours, but most bars and festivities stop the sale of alcoholic beverages at midnight.
@@christianmendez8299 Who the F are you to tell a grown adult they can't drink after 2am ?
@@Utubedeletescomments
Am telling the city of Miami Beach the best thing they can do is to stop serving alcohol after 2am in the morning. Any adult who wants to drink alcohol after 2am can stack up their place with alcoholic beverages and drink till 6am.
@@Utubedeletescomments because grown adults are too immature and infant to handle alcohol.

hey Nick, I like your colorful shirt! It gives a colorful South Miami vibe or southern Florida vibe.
