Have had my IM's for almost 20 years now. I power lifted and used olympic weights 20 years before that. I have never regretted the cost or found anything that I felt was better to make me switch and I am in far better shape using only dumbells instead of barbells now. They are very tough and durable and well balanced and I can attest to their lifetime warranty. After 10 years, the chrome on my handles started peeling and rusting and was sharp as a razor blade. They cut me several times. IM took them back and sent me new handles no questions asked and promptly sent me new ones. I don't think I'll ever give my IM's up and will pass them down to my son. They are a great company. Can't say enough good about them.
I feel like the Ironmaster ecosystem is the ultimate bedroom gym. You have enough room for the bench, the stand and plenty of attachments in even the smallest bedroom and I bet the lat pulldown attachment and the hyper attachment could both fit in the closet together and the rest could fit on the wall mount.
Totally agree. I alluded to it a little bit, but another reason I wanted to cover these is because I feel my audience in particular is in that demographic of wanting low footprint, but versatile options. Great comment.
One tip for those who use the heavy handle kit: wrist wraps will avoid friction with the corner of the heavy handle add-ons and will stabilize the wrists perfectly. Also, you can use the Madspotter 2.0
Appreciate the honest appraisal. I own these and concur on the eco-system. These are tried and true. I have noted over the years how rare it is to find an IronMasters owner who regrets their purchase.( most of us border on nearly cultish in our loyalty). Great review and look forward to your honest feedback per usual going forward!
Pretty similar experience to you. I had the Repins on pre-order, mostly for higher end weights since I have a fixed set that's reliable up to 75. Right around the time the first Repin delivery delay, a set of IronMaster 120 lb plus the (cheaper) stand popped up on FB MP for the price of the 70 lb set new. I've added the heavy handle to get to 135 and may soon need the next expansion (with your affiliate link, of course). Extremely happy with the decision to go IM rather than Repin.
I bought the same kit a few weeks ago. I think I used an old affiliate code from when you first got the Ironmaster bench. I've enjoyed using these dumbbells a lot, especially since I've never used adjustable dumbbells before. I also ended up getting the dumbbell spotting stand to pair it with the Ironmaster bench, which has saved my knees/thighs from the pain you mentioned when setting up for a press or other exercise. If you think you want to get even heavier, Ironmaster does offer the 165 lb add on kit, but you have to contact them to order it since they show it as out of stock on the website. Thanks for the review, I agree with your pros and cons and it makes me feel more confident that I made the right choice with the Ironmaster ecosystem instead of some of the other adjustable systems on the market.
@@nrom_normandy thanks so much for the comment and for the consideration of using my link. Extremely appreciated. Not going to lie, that 165 kit looks awesome. I also am eyeing that spotting stand. Thanks again.
How are you liking them? I’m stuck deciding between A pair of the iron master 120 lbs for $650 or a pair of 90 lbs powerblocks with a rep fitness incline bench for $550? I got to drive 3 hours one way for the iron masters but the PBs are probably 20 minutes away.
@@wakawaka1976 I've enjoyed using them a lot. I'm nowhere near lifting the 120 lbs since I'm so out of shape, but I've incorporated the dumbbells into my current routine focused on body weight exercises. I like the heavy weight handle add-on since I think the default handles are a little too long. The knurling is very comfortable for me. Considering the dumbbells start at $698 just for the 75 lb set, I think you're getting a good deal even if it's 3 hours away. Do you already have a bench? You can do a lot without one, but I've found the Ironmaster bench to be pretty awesome. The whole ecosystem has been really helpful with my limited basement space. The only criticism I have is that I'd like to figure out a way to put rubber or something on the face of the pins so they don't make as much noise when they touch while doing a chest press. I also like how the powerblocks have the color coding to help you figure out what the weight adjustment is set to. I did find a reddit post last night that I'm considering to use vinyl tape to color code the weight increments like power blocks and they look really rad with it www.reddit.com/r/homegym/comments/1flv58c/color_coded_ironmaster_dumbbells/.
I am often in the camp of “simpler is better”, and the fact that the Ironmasters have stood the test of time with no plastic parts is a big deal to me. I also thought about the Rep Pepins but went IM. Thanks for the review.
I've had almost the entire ecosystem from IM for about 7 years now.. All the attachments for the bench, as well as the 120lb DB set. I also own a set of "Commercial" Power blocks that go to 90lbs. I can't imagine giving up my IMs for anything. I grabbed the Powerblocks for an additional option while working, not to replace the IM. Sometimes having more than two dumbbells standing by is key (for me anyway). This was a great and honest review of them and I totally agree with just about everything you said. Saw the link to your video in an email from IM, that's pretty cool by itself! Keep it up.
Been using the ironmasters for almost 5 years and I'm keeping them despite having used Reppins. They are solid and honestly feel the most like a regular dumbell especially with the heavy handle kit...no rattle, no cage. For some exercises, the longer handle shaft is better. The only real issue with Ironmasters is that it takes a little more time to adjust weights compared to fast select competitors, it's still very fast to do.
IMs are pretty fast to change...people who complain about math and whatnot...you get to know by heart the weight of the dumbells by just looking at the plates on one side. It's very easy...
I’m stuck deciding between A pair of the iron master 120 lbs for $650 or a pair of 90 lbs powerblocks with a rep fitness incline bench for $550? I got to drive 3 hours one way for the iron masters but the PBs are probably 20 minutes away.
I preordered the Reppins and after a long wait, they finally arrived. There were a bunch of quality issues on the handles and plates that shouldn’t have passed QA. Decided to hold off on a replacement until Rep figures out the early issue. May get the Ironmasters to hold me over, best time of year to do so.
@@hybridresistance Yeah, I originally gave REP another shot with an exchange. A week or so later, they reached out and said that during manufacturing, they’d be testing tolerances on the same parts being delivered. And that testing could marr the finish up with scratches and there was no guarantee on a good replacement being shipped. But I was free to use their new touch up paint. Asked for a refund.
All that said, I hope they get this figured out on a v2. These are up there as some of the best adjustables structurally, but the quality isn’t up to par for the price point as of now.
I have had the Ironmasters for 15 or so years now. Use them every day. I purchased two 45lb sets. So 4 handles. This allows me to set up drop sets, first weight on the first pair of handles and the drop weight on the second set of handles. I have the heavier weight plates and longer screws also. I would recommend these to anyone.
Great to see you pick these up, especially after you getting the super bench! Ironmaster stuff is all top notch as you now know. I’ve had my Ironmasters since the first lockdown and will never be sold, they will out live me for sure and can I pass them down. Great video Mike!
@ haha I appreciate that! (I’m loving the lat attachment on the QT btw! Have you tried the counter balance style pull-down yet?) I would say the im2000 is well worth checking out but see you have a force USA rack, definitely worth reviewing if you have someone local who has one you could try, as always with ironmaster, takes up literally no space, so much versatility and a built like a tank. I’m hoping the much anticipated im3000 is dropped soon, been in the works for years, so I know the team will be perfecting it, but I think that’ll be the rack of all racks IMO. Hopefully they share some details about it soon, I’ve been pressing them for a couple years but they are keeping pretty tight lipped about it, just that it’s coming when it’s ready.
Sorry I missed this. For some reason YT doesn't notify me on the replies. I have to check back with Glenn as he was actually going to send over the counter balance loaders on the lat pull down. But the lat attachment really is awesome on that.
@@hybridresistance yeah bro! No worries, TH-cam is frustrating for that sometimes. Have you got a Gym pin D handle or similar? You can probably get a similar effect as the QT pull-down bar.
I have the 90lb Power Blocks, love them, and I am thinking of adding these and keeping them at 95. I am looking for the best option to keep progressing for the heavier movements, but using each for their better applications. Quick changes for PB and heavy IM. Thanks for the honesty in your reviews as a lifter and a fellow home gym gear head!
I have these along with my Harambe System. As long as you aren’t doing super sets these are great. I use the Titan Fitness dumbbell stand instead of the Ironmaster stands. It’s cheaper than the Ironmaster options, has a smaller footprint, and has more than enough capacity for all of the plates. If I ever figure out an exact weight for super sets I might just get a few stand alone dumbbells as an option. Edit: I also like the eco system as you highlighted. I’m probably going to be buying the vest to do some weighted dips and pushups which is a nice item to have.
I used to actually have that stand (or might still have it in my basement). That's a good tip especially for the 1" storage options. I think the only downside would be changing it on an incline, but that could be minor.
@ yeah the incline is pretty minor. I load the top side and then flip it and load the other side. I also lined the tray with a cheap rubber floor tread to prevent scuffing the stand and weights.
@Olmekc thank you! The Titan dumbbell stand is what I've been looking for. Yes for the dumbbell shelf but those weight pegs are fantastic for both the Ironmaster plates and the assortment of 1" plates that I use on the Total Gym (with the weight bar accessory). This one stand is going to serve at least three functions for me. so good!
I considered the Titan Fitness system as well, but I wanted something I could wheel around my basement. I considered other utility cart options, but I ended up going back to Ironmaster's pro stand instead for the convenience of the pin storage and how much of a tank it is. It was the heaviest and most secure box I got from Ironmaster when I got the dumbbells, bench, and some other attachments.
Awesome, Mike! I had just been considering saving up and going down this same road. BTW, I think the heavy handles take the min weight from 5 to 20, making the max of the original set 90lbs.
@@pvfury2730 thanks my friend. Yes, if you add the heavy handle kit it starts stock 20lbs (minus the locks which will add another 5lbs. I should have said that correct in the video though.
its good to cancel the repins because we don't know how long it will take for them to ship out while they hold your money for months. We don't know what's going to happen next year so it's best to hold off on the repins and keep the money in your pocket for any emergencies. I agree iron masters are more solid but it does take a long time to adjust especially if you're in quick workout. I will only purchase repins next year in black Friday if they have 10% off. I own urethane dumbbells 5-75lbs but I want the 80-125lb repins to complete my set one day.
I love my iron master dumbbells. I have them in with the heavy handle kit, and use them for heavy work. The fun thing about that is when I'm lifting heavy with low reps, I'm also taking longer rests, so there's plenty of time to change the plates. I kept my Bowflex 552s, and use those for drop sets or when I want faster, lighter work. I think there is a good argument to have two sets of adjustable dumbbells. This makes drop sets and supersets easy to set up.
I’ve always loved how Ironmaster make incredible products for the home gym space specifically. If you had a really small space, the iron master bench and dumbbells would be the way to go IMO. Great review.
@ you mentioned issues with the heavy handle kit hitting your wrist on presses. I had the same issue. I took the heavy handle kit off and it feels a lot better. The dumbbells don’t feel to big to me on bench and shoulder pressing without the heavy handle it. Maybe I am just used to it now. But the dumbbells feel balanced when I am using them and not too big. Thank you for all your gym reviews! You are helping the home gym community a lot with your content.
This was so thorough, you went through everything haha. I still have the powerblocks which go to 90s which I don’t mind but after this video it made me think of getting these.
Thanks for the review. I am looking in to these dumbells. because i want a good set for a good value. I dont have the room and budget for fixed dumbells. I was first looking in the REP quickdraws. But those looks nice too. just have some thoughts about changing weights and keeping track of it...
Not going to lie, I wasted many minutes double checking and second guessing myself on the weight. Even caught myself in the review messing up saying they went up to 130 when it was 135. But will say you get better at it overtime.
You can totally get 25 poinds to work on the ironmasters. Also the weight with the heavy handle kit on top of the standard 75 pound kit is 90 pounds, that goes up for the 120 pound expansion kit since together with the heavy handle kit that maxes out at 135 pounds, or 180 pounds per side with the second expansion kit. Basically the heavy handle kit adds 15 pounds per side to each of the three "stages" of weights offered by ironmaster which are 75, 120 and 165 per side without the heavy handle kit.
@@Scottydontno thanks for adding that. Yes, you are right that this set up I have goes up to 135 and the 25lbs works fine the heavy handle by just screwing in the quick locks.
Timely video! Thanks so much! I've been waiting for the holiday sales to purchase an adjustable dumbbell set with plenty of time to consider. Then there was the Rep+Pépin price increase while _still_ a pre-order. I've decided to go Ironmaster. I got their 20% BF email notice; I built my cart out. I'm with you on the ecosystem. It's so easy to add kettlebell functionality. That weight vest is easy, nothing fancy just does the job. These Ironmaster dumbbells clearly seem the most durable, compact, droppable, with the heaviest upgrade path. The drawback is obvious with no surprises-slower to change weights. As you say, I might plan drop sets differently in a workout. Even buying a second set of handles maybe with some more plates wouldn't be that bad. There's a lot more flexibility with this system than any other.
I ended up buying a second set of handles to help out when I need drop sets. I'm waiting on the kettlebell to arrive this week since it was on backorder. I hadn't considered the vest, but I'll see if there are any black friday deals. I didn't get any email notices about it, though?
@@nrom_normandy I wasn't thinking of the vest either until looking for items for a higher package discount. I don't currently have a vest. It's appears so easy to just drop these square plates in. Inexpensive enough. why not try it I figure? @HomeGymHacksandReviews says it's decent in this review, th-cam.com/video/13fthDCY1-w/w-d-xo.html
Ironmaster does have a black Friday deal coming. And the kettlebell handle is great! I even bought their Olympic plates and barbell and I am not disappointed. I specifically got their Olympic plates because I wanted rubber coated with handles.
Timeless Classic. The kettlebell looks sick too! How is the Superbench working out for you, thinking about updating from my Rep AB3100.. and have been eyeing that one.
Thanks brother, I just plugged your awesome REP Pepin video in someone's comment below. I meant to mention your name in the video when I was recording referring to the push pin, but drew as I was recording. I'm still loving the Superbench and got some other stuff on there I'll be sharing. I'd say the best part about the bench is how light and easy to store out of the way it is while still being versatile.
@ appreciate that! Ya I’m gonna eventually upgrade to that I think! My 10x10 from Force USA is making for a great set-up…. Now I just need another 10x10 lol
BTW, I actually have three sets of quick lock dumbbells, 2-IM, and 1-Power Block Sport 50. Why...? Originally, one was for home, another for work. Then later I added the PB50 for lighter, quicker change for work. Now all three are at home, and I can use them interchangeably with different weights and exercises. I use them all, even the plates on a cable machine I have, so no need to sell any at this point.
I have looked at Iron Master, and talked with them a bit. I bought a 45lb and a 75lb Hoist adjustable dumbbell sets back in the 1990s. After a little research, I found that Iron Master bought their patent. Iron Master made a few changes, but they appear to be very identical. One proof is that their 15lb add on plates fit my dumbbell set. I agree with you that they help reduce the spacing on the handle, making lifting easier. Iron Master did tell me that the changes won’t allow me to use their upgrade to 120lbs. So, If I do move beyond my current 90lbs, I may purchase it. Until then, I’ll check in with reviews such as yours. Thanks!
@ If you can find them, I would. Hoist had two adjustable dumbbell systems, 45lbs and 75lbs. Unlike Iron Master’s hole, the Hoist system uses a u-shape cut-out for their plates. This allows you to add or drop weight without taking the screw out. The plates have dimples that prevented them from slipping. As I mentioned earlier, I still have and use my, and I am very satisfied. Since I’m now pushing more weight, I wish that they accepted more weight. Again, as I mentioned, their handle, and Iron Master’s handle have identical dimensions, so there 15lb add does work with the older Hoist.
@@hartzogLovesScience Thanks and I've never heard elsewhere that one can upgrade to 90# like that so thanks for that information. I always liked that design with the U cut out and wonder if there was a reason it was dropped? I think the U cut out looked faster to change the weight and slicker as far as storage with their stand.
Without any additional plates, just stick the screws in until they are equally spaced and then turn a bit to tighten. My wife uses them like that for certain exercises. Never had a problem in the 5 years I've had mine with the screws coming out. While everybody seems to be raving about the Reppins, I'm very happy with my IM dumbbells.
Just wanna say that I appreciate you reviewing as much equipment as you do and also choosing items that don’t have a lot of coverage (ignoring this Ironmaster review 😂)
Appreciate it Brandon! Hey, I'm throwing this in there as part of that category. Big reason I've been considering Ironmaster (for awhile now) as the "quick change" DBs are taking over is because I think my demographic (and myself) are looking for things that maximize space but still super versatile. Also as long as these as things have been around, I'm actually surprised on the lack of coverage they actually have.
My current DB setup is a few rubber hex, 15 spinlock pairs and a Weider adjustable DB up to 55 (same as Nordic Track). I always would want more than 1 DB option doing HIT for pre-ex and other intensification techniques so there are no weight changes while training. If I upgrade, Ironmaster are in the running due to their weight vest and I'd get an extra set of handles.
I've had my IronMaster DBs for 16 years and they are still going strong. Fantastic product and ecosystem. I think there is value in having more than one set of adjustable DBs, whether it's for a workout partner or for movements where I really value quick changes. I use my IronMasters when I need weights in excess 50lbs+ (or Kettlebells with their Kettlebell handle accessory) and I currently use Rep Quickdraw DBs for 50lbs and less (curls, lateral raises, etc - or for a weaker workout partner). For me, that combination is more useful than a set of Reppins (for the cost).
I'm with you on the frustration with the delays to the Rep x Pepins. I've had those on pre-order since they were first available, and I'm still waiting. I have a pair of 50lb Core Fitness adjustable dumbbells, but they're slightly broken after a couple of small drops this year. Struggling to keep those going while i wait and wait and wait for the Repins.
This was a helpful video, I'm still trying to make up my mind about what dumbbells to get. For the first time in my life, I'm taking fitness seriously and I'm currently stuck with a pair of Bowflex 552s that I just can't stand because of how bulky they are, plus I'm getting close to maxing them out on some exercises. The Repins have all the hype, and I probably would have bought some already if they were available in a reasonable timeframe, but the more time goes on the more I'm looking at other options. The Ironmasters are definitely a popular adjustable dumbbell option, and look to be one of the most compact options as well. The weight change process is certainly a bit cumbersome, but seems like it wouldn't be too bad with a bit of practice. Though, drop sets would be tricky. I don't currently do those, but I might someday.
A true classic durable and heavy dumbbell. Good choice if you wanna go heavy. All the quick-adjusts like trulap, nuobells, snodes etc. are not expandable and probably not droppable too. Did you end up spending more for these over the Reppins? If you like this style, you can check out the Pepin HDs which is similar. I think Baadass and Kensui sells similar handles too.
Even at base price the IMs still saved me at least $200 (and with 5lbs more weight) compared to the rep Pepin . I got in on the preorder prior to the price hike, so now they're about $300 cheaper. But I also went in on the stand. The other thing to consider is the other products that potentially open up if one considers the Ironmaster brand.
Yes, actually a viewer recently helped me get these. People have been asking for LONG time for me to check out a solo flex. As of now I'm really trying to tweak and mess with it.
@@hybridresistance I still have the one I bought in the 80s and this year I tricked it out as a (very) poor man's cable system using pulleys and sandbags.
IronMasters are the best in adjustable dumbbells and I've tried a few. They don't look anything special--they just work. Very fast and secure adjustments, very compact. That square design comes in handy when doing chest flies too. I roll my eyes whenever I'm at a gym that has lesser adjustable dumbbells, because relative to IronMasters, they're going to be awkward, slow, and less secure. Glad Hybrid Resistance gave them a go.
I went with Yes4All bargain dumbbells and a set of Kensui handles. I keep the Kensui handles loaded at 45 lbs each and the Yes4All handles loaded at 22.5 lbs each. I also bought a cheap "Apex" loadable kettlebell that fits the Yes4All plates. So I spent around $300 all-in, and I have a pair of 45 lbs dumbbells, a pair of 22.5lbs dumbbells, and a 40 lb kettlebell -- all adjustable and interchangeable with the Yes4All iron plates. Kind of like a poor man's Ironmaster.
I have the set as you described and do feel the corner of the heavy handle at times. I'm waiting for the reppins, supposed to ship next week.. I'll let you know what I think when they come in
@@hybridresistance i actually also have the TRULAP dumbells. Got the IM first, and whil;e I liked the feel, chaging weights was a pain so got the trulap on sale and really digging it. Kep the IM for some of my heavier movements though. Hoping to replace both with the reppins. At one point I had powerblock pro, hated the handle and hated the cage (even though it was less cagey)
Great review. Thank you. I was thinking about these or the Eisenlink dumbbells but ultimately went with Rep x Peppin due to the ease of changing weights and.......the length of the handle. The handle length of IronMasters were too long for me (got to try them out at a friends house...they are awesome though)....I have the powerblock elite USA now and like the length of handle and how it is short.
Have you seen the Eisenlink dumbbells? They are very similar but use a previous Iron Master design with some minor improvements to keep the weights locked in while also costing less. I wonder how feasible it would be to combine those Eisenlinks with standard weight plates to create a nice budget option that can be changed quick-ish for lighter weights but still goes very heavy. Or alternatively, something like the Kensui Adaptabells Max which is basically similar to the Iron Master handle but meant to be used with your existing plates and doesn't have any quick-change mechanism.
@@killerkhatiby009 I have seen those, but I ultimately thought these had a better overall functionality / design alongside their growing list of products.
I always liked the ironmaster dumbbells. Very good materials. Simple, reliable design. Very compact. They don't require a special stand or base to use. The square shape means the dumbbell will stay wherever you put it (sounds like a joke, but a dumbbell rolling/moving when set down can be a big issue). Unlike traditional dumbbell handles or even certain quick adjust dumbbells (like the old Bowflex dumbbells) these can rest upright on your thigh or knee without hurting you. The only downside is that they don't adjust as fast as others. But, that's not a huge deal.
@@SkylerKingTW probably a stupid question…but I was thinking about you and how these are made in Thailand and always wondered how hard it would be to get ahold of these since they’re made there. Thanks again for the insight and comment as usual. I’m due for another Skyler Easter egg soon.
Taiwan...lol. These are readily available, here. I see them for sale, often. The build quality of things made in Taiwan is also very good. Taiwan used to be part of Japan and all of the initial infrastructure was japanese. If you watch any torture tests where they compare the quality and reliability of different tools, for example, the ones made in Taiwan often do better than those made in Japan (but not always) and always do better than those made in Germany. There is a reason why all of the best computing components and chip sets are made in Taiwan.
@@SkylerKingTW geez, I totally knew it was Taiwan, my brain obviously was not working. That’s super helpful and really good to know about the quality of manufacturing there though.
I have a pair of Nuobells. While they’re convenient I’ve already had a handle break. Seeing this video just makes me want to purchase standalone OG dumbbells.
Like I said in the video, I was a little resistant to them for a few reasons for years. The heavy handle kit I do think is a must for keeping it a little more balanced in the hand.
I must ask, why Ironmasters in particular over similar spinlock options like Pepin handles (the HD series also goes heavy ~200lb), Baada$$ dumbbells (225lb max) or Kensui handles (150lb max). Is what iron master offers unique or better than these options? Was it based on the dumbbells merits individually, or is Ironmaster's ecosystem what did it for you? Or did they just not come to mind I've been itching for someone on youtube to make a comparison between these options, but no one seems to think of doing it
Funny thing,.I was thinking the same thing about pre ordering the repins but started thinking again about the ironmaster. The ecosystem is hard to beat.
@@hybridresistance Excellent I have resistance band set and platform plus the Nordic hyper so I have a solid little setup but being able to do more with dumbbells and potentially a bar is appealing. Just don't have the space for a full squat rack/smith machine currently.
I like the IronMaster and the PEPIN Dumbbells even though I don't own any of them, they both look like something I would want to buy to add as my home gym. The Vitruvian is also another one that appeals to me. Have you tried that one?
@@DavidZMH I have been considering reviewing that for sometime, but after reviewing a number of electronic foot plates I personally think I would use the heavy weight for the amount of money it costs.
I loved my Iron Masters, but I was able to sell them for 80% of what I paid for them allowing me to buy the 125 lb Reppins, which I have been using for a few weeks.
@@hybridresistance I bought the Iron Masters at significant lower prices several years ago than they are now. That helped get a higher resale relative to my purchase prices.
@ gotcha. that makes sense. I think their design allows for doing drop sets better but besides that and price, everything else you mentioned I think gives the edge to IM. I’ve been looking for some adjustable dumbbells to supplement my resistance bands, so thanks for the info!
You can pretty easily get 25. I do it all the time. Each acre thingy can only go in a certain amount so you gotta put them both in before you tighten them if that makes sense. Then you can adjust both of them to get a good lock. They butt up against each other in there.
I got 2 sets of these used so I can have one with the heavy handles and one without. Then I got the long screws so I can go up in weight, but with all of the small plates. With rows and such I still prefer a long spinlock one.
@@randybowman yes you’re right. I was actually the first time and possibly second time where I tried 25. I generally don’t use them. Probably from the conditioning of the snodes going from 20 to 30.
I had Ironmaster dbells, very solid and feel real dbells. I expected to get the Rep x Pépin dbells but i am concerned about the pop pins on the rails 🤔
If IM ever chose to remake the dumbells, I think it'd been better to make these in an octagonal shape. That way, they still wouldn't roll freely, but they'd be closer to round, and have a slightly shorter radius on the corners (12:40). And for an exercise like DB pullovers, it'd feel more natural on the hands.
i am on the market, need something for over 50 pounds- i've been saving and ready to get the ironmaster. i looked at others- powerblocks which i'm familiar with from back in the day when they were at Dicks, reppeppin and old school adjustable like titan chrome BUT i'm not crazy about cages or bars around my grip, points of failure, or length of these others. i'm planning on still getting IM when the sale starts for 55-100 range
finished the review, fantastic, thorough and honest. another point is IM has a military discount- Rep discontinued theirs and say they donate to something but not to me lol. i will add that now IM is also discontinuing theirs, confused on us existing customers with the discount as their messaging is strange but there you have it. also no tax?!?
@@Saltivasaltiva I have seen those types of locking bolts, but the reasons for going with IM is the brand reputation, overall design / functionality, eco system, and the weight capability. I can certainly cover those though if you guys are interested.
Man, comment after comment about people loving them! I dont need stuff that heavy so I will stick with my Powerblocks for now. Found a set with an extra pair of handles and a used stand that make the powerblocks really fast to use.
IMs are perfect for people who lift heavy and will withstand drops better than adjustables. I dislike how thick the handle on the IMs is, I bought some used Powerblock U90s. PBs are great for pressing but I admit curls do feel weird on them.
I agree there. By "thick" are you talking more about the width of the stock handle? Because I think the dimensions are actually pretty normal or small compared to at least my Snode's. The access space or width is an issue, which I way I'd suggest the heavy handle kit for sure. I also think PBs are still great if you're not too particular with certain exercises. One thing I wish I did when I had my PBs was switch out the handle for the aftermarket knurled ones.
Changing the weights gets old very fast. I have buyer's remorse with the Ironmasters. Wish I had waited for the the Rep Pippens. The Ironmasters are good for over 90 lbs but trust me you do not want to bother with the "Quick" Lock system doing drop sets.
I'm a very lazy man, so for me, IM wouldn't work, as I would view the changing of weights as too much added effort, whereas with the Reppins, it looks just easier
I had the ironmasters for over 10 years. Loved them other than the feel of them. Had the powerblocks too. One thing that isnt mentioned about the ironmasters is the off axis shift of the weight when pressing heavy. With 100lb plus weight doing incline presses for example the weight of the dumbell will shift because of the shape of the dumbell. The Reppins feel more like a gym dumbell moreso than the ironmasters because of it. Hard disagree on feeling like the powermasters. The Reppins have rails not a cage. They are nothing like the powermasters. Nor do they feel like it. After using the ironmasters for ten years trust me, you will be getting the Reppins before long. The ironmasters are great, no doubt. The Reppins are just better. And i haved use all three. The Reppins are the best on the market. And no the pop pins cannot come loose. I have no idea why you are saying that. The pop pins are held in by magnets and fit into a groove. You have to actually pop them in and out. No amount of incidental contact will move them.
Really appreciate the comment. Regarding the pop pin issue, this review shows what I was referring to th-cam.com/video/0jFbzXx6JZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-crcAosAyJ0kNPpr&t=493 I don't know if it made the cut, but I was riffing or noticing that the block design possibly possibly has something to do with when you curl there's this transfer of weight. Someone into physics might be able to answer this. Regardless the rails (for me) gave the power block vibes for being a slight limiting factor on what can be done with it in general. Overall the though for me it was it there growing eco system (I know they got some cool stuff on the way), the tighter compact fit, no rails, and heavier weight capacity without the need of a cradle. Really appreciate the comment and for watching again.
@@hybridresistance I agree with you. The ironmaster eco system is fantastic. I have the superbench also and use it quite a bit. Still disagree on the pop pins. Look at the video. He is holding the rails! Of coarse you can pop the pins out. You are not supposed to hold the rails. Used as intended, like holding the handle, the chances of the pins coming out are about zero. After watching your video I tried everything I could to try and get the pins to pop out while holding the handle. Nope. Not happening. I tried for quite a bit too doing every excercise I can think of. While holding the rails I had to actually use my palm and press on purpose to pop them out. Just don't hold the rails, as the say not to anyway. As for the weight transfer I am no physics major either but what you described is what I am talking about. While pressing with 125lb inclines yesterday you can feel the shift in weight on your wrist while pressing. This doesn't happen with my Reppins. I have both dumbbells now as I am holding onto my ironmasters until I get used to the Reppins. Another thing to be aware of is the roller screw on the ironmasters will get looser over time. When using heavy weight the plates will come loose while using the dumbbells with heavy weight. They will not come off as it's a screw pin but more of an annoyance. As far as size goes the Reppins are about the same size or smaller than a gym dumbbell of the same weight. The ironmasters are about the same size in length. The Reppins are just 18.3 inches long at 120 and the ironmasters are 18.5 at 120lb. So the Reppins are a hair shorter. About the same. The Reppins are also 18.3 at 125lb. Having used both I think in my opinion I see the Reppins in your future. You will see what I mean when using the ironmasters day to day. 😄 Appreciate the comment and the videos. You actually saved me thousands in unnessary gym equipment. You and Coop. Thank you!
@ love it brother. Like I said in the video, I was pretty much against these until I had so many people writing into me who were fans who really sold me on it. Ultimately again, the weight was the primary thing that I felt for the price, I wasn’t getting much upgrade for me. I’m already having fun playing with cleans at 135. Thanks again for all the comments.
Wow, thanks for sharing that. It was stuff like this that really made me value the company more with their reputation to honoring their warranty.
I am considering that "madspotter"
Appreciate the honest appraisal. I own these and concur on the eco-system.
These are tried and true. I have noted over the years how rare it is to find an IronMasters owner who regrets their purchase.( most of us border on nearly cultish in our loyalty).
Great review and look forward to your honest feedback per usual going forward!
@@DanielDonohoo thanks Daniel. I for sure valued all the positive feedback I’ve heard about the company throughout the years.
Really appreciate that "Gene". You got a steal there!
I've had a couple of issues with my IM dumbbells and their CS is outstanding. It's a win win with a great product and CS
@@Timm129that’s another huge plus people need to consider if they are comparing to other cheaper options out there.
What issues did you have? I feel like one of my screws has become challenging to screw in.
I am often in the camp of “simpler is better”, and the fact that the Ironmasters have stood the test of time with no plastic parts is a big deal to me. I also thought about the Rep Pepins but went IM. Thanks for the review.
Really appreciate that. I like to say I prefer "simpler" but I tend to overcomplicate things!
Keep it up.
This is all very valuable information for the consumer. Thanks for sharing this and appreciate the positive comments.
I've been hearing nothing but good things about the longevity, which is also good to hear.
I am so torn between these two brands. What would you buy if you were starting over? Thanks!
@jettav88 if you don't mind much about weight change time if you are not into quick drop sets and what not, IM all the way.
IMs are pretty fast to change...people who complain about math and whatnot...you get to know by heart the weight of the dumbells by just looking at the plates on one side. It's very easy...
@ Thank you!
I’ve had mine for years and still love ‘em.
Thanks for sharing brother.
I’m stuck deciding between A pair of the iron master 120 lbs for $650 or a pair of 90 lbs powerblocks with a rep fitness incline bench for $550? I got to drive 3 hours one way for the iron masters but the PBs are probably 20 minutes away.
I'd personally go with the more weight IMs.
Thanks for sharing that, so did you return them?
@@hybridresistance Yeah, I originally gave REP another shot with an exchange.
A week or so later, they reached out and said that during manufacturing, they’d be testing tolerances on the same parts being delivered.
And that testing could marr the finish up with scratches and there was no guarantee on a good replacement being shipped. But I was free to use their new touch up paint.
Asked for a refund.
All that said, I hope they get this figured out on a v2. These are up there as some of the best adjustables structurally, but the quality isn’t up to par for the price point as of now.
Thanks for all that info!
Awesome comment. Thanks so much for sharing all of this.
Great to see you pick these up, especially after you getting the super bench! Ironmaster stuff is all top notch as you now know. I’ve had my Ironmasters since the first lockdown and will never be sold, they will out live me for sure and can I pass them down. Great video Mike!
Thanks my "Quantum" brother. You got to tell me your other top picks, because we're hitting on all cylinders.
Thanks Joe. There seems to be a lot of you guys who are considering IMs as secondary options to your "quick change" DBs.
I like your point of the Ironmasters bring tighter with no wobble. Awesome review.
Thanks man, really appreciate that. I got a soft plug for you on an upcoming video probably in the next week.
I'm slowly coming around to a lot of your guys arguments are about having a mix of both slower and quick change dbs around.
I’ve been using the IM dumbbells and accessories since 2006. Zero issues or regrets. Recommend them to anyone looking for a home gym setup.
@@TheSfortenberry thanks so much for that. It was testimonials like this that helped make me pull the trigger.
I would keep the Snodes because now you can superset with your IronMasters. It’s the perfect combo.
I was for sure thinking about that, but I'm also trying to maximize this space. For now though, I am keeping them.
I’ve always loved how Ironmaster make incredible products for the home gym space specifically. If you had a really small space, the iron master bench and dumbbells would be the way to go IMO. Great review.
@@HomeGymAustralia I appreciate that thank you
I have the iron masters dumbbells with the 120lbs add on and it has been the best home gym purchase I have ever made
Thanks for sharing that. Of course makes me feel good dropping the $$ for them.
Really appreciate that!
This was so thorough, you went through everything haha. I still have the powerblocks which go to 90s which I don’t mind but after this video it made me think of getting these.
Thanks so much again brother for watching.
Love this detailed comment brother. I'm hitting on all cylinders with what you're saying.
Thanks!
Very interesting info, thanks for that comment.
If a person ran across an old Hoist set are you saying we should snatch them up?
Are they a little quicker?
@@waynebrissette9459 thanks for sharing that.
I like that set up. There's been a few of you suggesting such a set up with a set up quick change dbs alongside these.
When going heavy just accept straight sets?
Maybe buy some Quick Draws or whatever for other lifts?
It is a reasonable strategy.
@@ericfallabel9201 I hear you brother. I assume you’ll be getting them soon.
I'm still loving my IMs for what it's worth. Biggest reason is for how tight / compact they are and the weight capacity.
You gotta review that Soloflex you got there!
Instant memories of those old infomercials when I saw that.
Thanks so much John for sharing your experience.
I love this set up! Thanks for sharing.
I have the set as you described and do feel the corner of the heavy handle at times. I'm waiting for the reppins, supposed to ship next week.. I'll let you know what I think when they come in
Appriciate that comment. I think the heavy handle kit is a must, but there is a tradeoff with that corner.
If I wasn’t such a big fan of powerblocks I would pick these up. The price is really on point.
Thanks for watching.
@@PK-tp6jo thank you and I appreciate the comment
Or did they just not come to mind
I've been itching for someone on youtube to make a comparison between these options, but no one seems to think of doing it
@@ashoif77 I’d say it was the company history, growing eco system, and overall design.
Funny thing,.I was thinking the same thing about pre ordering the repins but started thinking again about the ironmaster. The ecosystem is hard to beat.
I'm there with you man.
Do you have a video about the ironmaster ecosystem?
I don't have a ton of space but would like to add some options for ny strength training
@@MichaelVash7886 stay tuned brother. That’s coming.
@@hybridresistance Excellent
I have resistance band set and platform plus the Nordic hyper so I have a solid little setup but being able to do more with dumbbells and potentially a bar is appealing.
That's really good on re-sale factor. I see power blocks going for steals lately.
@@hybridresistance I bought the Iron Masters at significant lower prices several years ago than they are now. That helped get a higher resale relative to my purchase prices.
I saw eisenlink adjustable dumbbells on another channel that are cheaper than ironmaster have you used them?
@@Schwab.travis yes, I have seen those. I went with IM because of the better design, eco system, and great reputation of the company.
@ gotcha. that makes sense.
My man Mark did a great review where he highlighting a pop pin issue th-cam.com/video/0jFbzXx6JZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CEDPwSKTPb9UIaS9&t=498
Great point and comment.
i am on the market, need something for over 50 pounds- i've been saving and ready to get the ironmaster.
i looked at others- powerblocks which i'm familiar with from back in the day when they were at Dicks, reppeppin and old school adjustable like titan chrome BUT i'm not crazy about cages or bars around my grip, points of failure, or length of these others.
i'm planning on still getting IM when the sale starts for 55-100 range
if i get them im thinking about just getting a toolbox roller cart from harbor freight
finished the review, fantastic, thorough and honest.
another point is IM has a military discount- Rep discontinued theirs and say they donate to something but not to me lol. i will add that now IM is also discontinuing theirs, confused on us existing customers with the discount as their messaging is strange but there you have it.
also no tax?!?
Appreciate you watching and for all the comments. Sad to hear about the military discounts going away.
@@hybridresistance one last thing- did you consider the Kensui ones with the locking bolts?
@@Saltivasaltiva I have seen those types of locking bolts, but the reasons for going with IM is the brand reputation, overall design / functionality, eco system, and the weight capability. I can certainly cover those though if you guys are interested.
Fyi one can always get a2nd handle if they want a qu8ck change
Man, comment after comment about people loving them! I dont need stuff that heavy so I will stick with my Powerblocks for now. Found a set with an extra pair of handles and a used stand that make the powerblocks really fast to use.
So many good DB options out there, probably comes down to people's preference or amount they want to spend. Thanks for the comment.
I've cancelled my Peppins pre-order as well once I've got first delay, but I got Rep Quickdraw instead
Nice. Those are another contender for sure.
Happy with your purchase ? Thx
what is the name of the raised foot plate you're using in this video when doing lunges around the 3:50 mark
That's from Exponent Edge. You can use code "MIKE" to save there as well.
IM2000 ironmaster Smith machine?? 🤔

Thanks so much Dan. I had to check that after seeing your comment. Obviously extremely for you guys watching and supporting the channel.
save $$ and get the Eisenlink.
Fair enough for sure.
Regarding the pop pin issue, this review shows what I was referring to th-cam.com/video/0jFbzXx6JZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-crcAosAyJ0kNPpr&t=493
I don't know if it made the cut, but I was riffing or noticing that the block design possibly possibly has something to do with when you curl there's this transfer of weight.
Appreciate the comment and the videos.
