    I’ve been in Hydroponics for 16 years so I am by no means an expert. I always suggest root trimming periodically. You could literally trim off 1/2 those roots and your plants would do just fine in fact root trimming encourages more branching from the existing roots.

    I used to dig my pepper plants up before cold weather and keep them in the house near a sunny window then replant them in the garden in Spring. I kept one alive for three years that way and always had early peppers. But I was playing in a band and went to Jackson Mississippi to do a show and an early freeze killed it. It had bark on it after three years. I think you can root those cuttings from your peppers so you don`t have to wait for new plants to grow. I think removing the leaves helps but I never trimmed mine that I brought inside for the Winter and they say you`re supposed to. Not sure how to root them but it should be easy.

      I did my peppers plants like that once before. I hurry up and got them inside and they were still producing peppers. I love making canned sweet banana peppers, the best.

    Wow, I can't believe how many extensions you have on the larger one for the lights - I just ordered a 12 pod iDOO and I think it only comes with one extension and goes up a total of 11 inches.

    I just ordered three different types of these things and just got two of them planted with China Rose big radishes and Romaine lettuce. One has only two big pods you fill with clay stones and the other has 6 pods the little sponges go in. The one arriving tomorrow has 12. Looks like fun. I grew up on a farm in Louisiana and know outdoor gardening but there are too many helicopters flying over....I mean....it`s been too cold. Yeah, that`s it! LOL!

      @@CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars One easy way to plant an area like that is dig holes in a line about a foot apart and a foot deep with post hole diggers or a narrow shovel, fill with rich soil, and plant stuff in the holes. This is a great technique for climbing plants like cucumbers and pole beans because it uses little space to produce a lot of food and you don`t need a lot of tilling, soil, or time and effort to get it done. I`ve grown cucumbers, purple pole beans, tomatoes, okra, melons, and all sorts of things that way.
      You can set up a temporary trellis made of whatever you want to use for poles and weave the trellis from cheap twine or string. It`s a very fast way to have a garden. Two hours....it`s planted and done...then all you need to do is water it every few days if needed. Someone can use this method in a yard and when the trellis, poles, and plants are gone there`s no damage or trace of a garden ever being there.

    I ordered two more of the larger 12 pod ones. My turnip plants are doing great in a six pod unit. The lettuce was slow to sprout in the one with big cups holding clay beads but it`s growing now and I have turnip greens in my third one with 12 pods. I ordered two backup grow lights that are a line of them 1.4 feet long on an aluminum frame with reflectors about 4 inches wide in case one of my lights fail with big plants in it so I can save them. I think I can mount these lights with a zip tie if I have to. They might come in useful just to put beside larger plants to make sure they get plenty of light from the side and bottom.

    • @CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars
      @CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the way you think that's not a bad idea at all. My lettuce plants grow pretty fast that's the first thing I harvest with these machines. I might have to try that zip tie so please let me know how it goes in a long run.

    • @baneverything5580
      @baneverything5580 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars I meant to say radishes in the six pod one. They`re growing extremely fast and look very healthy. I ordered a very cheap PH test kit that uses strips to test with. If something goes wrong I guess the PH is the first thing to check. It was about 6 dollars for 150 test strips. The one I have that has two large pods full of clay beads was missing instructions and the seller told me how to set the timer. Now it`s working right. They told me it even has a low water alarm.
      I like it because of the larger growing area in the two pods and also because of its unique watering system...it has a bottom reservoir and pumps water to a top reservoir which not only helps get more oxygen in the water but even if the quantity of water in the unit changes due to evaporation or adding water the water level in the top reservoir passing by the roots is always the same. That gives the plants the ability to choose how their roots grow into the water and changes in the amount of water in the system doesn`t flood or dry out the roots. So I`m very glad I saw this unique one and ordered it. It gave me a lot of ideas about how to design my own system much easier.

    Great stuff to know. I'm new to aerogarden but have some peppers coming to grow in a bounty basic to try out. Not sure how long they will all stay alive but I plan to prune and top essentially like how you did to keep them manageable and staying fairly well within the confines of the garden.
    I would imagine it sucks cutting your plants down when they are still producing! That would be a tough one for me to do, but I don't currently grow outside, summer in Alaska is just too short and the springs can actually be unforgiving aswell making grow times extremely short.

    • @CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars
      @CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I truly understand and when you prune it helps produce a bigger crop. When I did my banana peppers they came pretty big. Also I want to say it helps when you have the right pH levels for the system which is your normal pH levels for peppers/plants. It’s really fun using aerogarden specially when you don’t have any time outside. Plus it takes care of itself

      @@CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars This is my first time trying a hydroponic system but if it works well I may just build something big and crazy enough to try pole beans in the house. I think with beans you`d need soil because they fix their own nitrogen in the dirt but I may be wrong. I`ll look into it. I saw some sort of inoculating hydro formula that sounded like the same stuff farmers put in soil that`s a living organism that beans need on their roots to create the nitrogen. But I guarantee you could grow them in a bucket with grow lights indoors.
      Maybe the best option to try first is the bush type green beans. I bet it can be done with grow lights and dirt very easy indoors. You could probably leave the dirt inside the plastic bags, cut some slits in them to plant the seeds and poke some drain holes on the bottom of the bag, and place them in plastic storage containers on top of something like bricks inside the containers to allow drainage when you lightly water them and install your own simple drain plug to remove the excess drainage each time. Put some grow lights above them and a small USB powered fan.
      I bought a cheap greenhouse off Amazon but my main reason for doing so is so I can hopefully grow some yellow squash inside it where the swarms of squash bugs can`t find them. I always grew in gardens and the greenhouse and these little hydro units are new to me. I have lots of experiments planned though and I`ll film the results.

      @@CityBoyFarmingAndrewSeegars Just remember that a lot of plants need bees to make fruit or vegetables and they might require you to pretend to be the bee and pollinate each bloom with a tiny paint brush. I always do that to my outdoor tomatoes and squash just to be sure they set fruit. I`m moving very soon into a camper trailer nearby and I`m definitely gonna experiment with indoor growing to see what`s the best I can come up with. I`m on SSI and can`t afford to shop at stores so I have to grow something or do without enough to eat. I`ve been prepping and trying to get things set up so I can survive without much help and have my own food, water supply, and solar power. .

      Nope, the soil would be full of eggs and you would have to maintain that with so many solutions. Also, you would have deal with them mating and making more eggs. The hydroponic would be simpler and easier but you would have to change the water or keep adding water that’s about it
