I love that little Yoocaa grow system. We had one similar to that, but as you said, it does not make room for larger plants unless you use only two to four. The Tiny Tim Tomatoes (I have 3 in 1 quart pots of dirt under grow lights in the house) could be planted in that Yoocaa System, if you used only two plants per system. I think they would be lovely in there, but they get bushy, so I wouldn’t do any more than two. They get about 1 foot tall. We get tomatoes all the time off of them, so they are great little plants. We have a large 4’ x 6’ hydroponic system (and others) in storage. We actually grew the entire bed full of crops one year to see how it could be done. It worked great, and we had the appropriate grow light over the top of the bed. I thought it was fun, but even though we got veggies, like cherry tomatoes and even cucumbers, the plants were not the same as in the garden. Leaf plants would be great in any hydroponic system. You need room, you need lights and fertilizer and electricity. If the grid goes down it is not sustainable. For right now, while the grid is still up, if you wanted salad greens, chives, herbs, cherry tomatoes, you could do that easily with the Yoocaa. You would need about 6 of them at least, and probably 8 to continually keep the seeds going, for different lettuces. The good part is that you could place them all over the house, wherever there is a table to hold it. Another good part is that the house is an even temperature and the plants should thrive. If the grid goes down though, and it is winter, that would be a problem. All in all, you could have salad growing in your house. That is fun and healthy. I much prefer the Kratky system. It is the same thing as the Yoocaa, without the light and you can do it with any size bucket by cutting a hole in the lid, adding a 2” or 3” basket and stones or hydroponic balls. We do this in the greenhouse and get wonderful lettuce. MHPGardener describes and shows it and the results on his channel. He also does wonderful greenhouse hydroponics, in a fashion I have never done! This is a great video and a very cute little system.
So after a year do you stile like the yoocaa system? very interesting ! I saw you haven't cover your water level with the small graduated cylinder? i bought mine and receved it today. so i can't wait to try. thank's
Okay, I just planted for the first time--but I planted 2 pods with lettuce and 4 with flowers. So now do I switch my light to flowers or vegetables and when do I do that
Nicely done. I like the “it’s adorable” description. I think I’d probably agree. Seems cute (adorable), but maybe not sustainable, like you said. Everything isn’t for everybody…but, you guys are great about showing the community so many options of so many things available. So, again, nicely done! 🥰
We have two units identical to this one. It is excellent for growing lettuce, specifically Buttercrunch. We did not have to purchase salad lettuce for several months. I let my last couple of plants go to seed in it and I am refreshing the set up with seed I harvested. We'll see how that goes. I have successfully reused the peat inserts, but have also purchased additional ones. One drawback I found is the timing of on-off with the lights. Both of mine are 14 hours on and 10 hours off, as opposed to the advertised 16 hours on and 8 hours off. We have had limited success with other herbs, not because of any failure with the unit, but because we have a cat who likes to eat herbs and thinks it is her personal salad bar. It's a good thing she doesn't like lettuce.
Well , i have planned to have a hydroponic system to grow my veggies. But until then i have planned to plant some herbs and tomatoes this year on my balcony. Thanks for sharing and it was a great review as well much appreciated.
Thanks for the review. I have 7 hydroponic indoor gardens, but not that one. Incidentally, the baskets that hold the growing medium can be reused. And while I generally use the plugs, you can use other things, including pool noodles cut to fit.
Cool. I need to send you a photo of the reusable silicon tray I gave my friend to make starts that we put those faba beans in our garden plots. I plan on starting my snap peas so they are ready to go after our last freeze.
@@TheProvidentPrepper, yes. I want to remember to take some photos for you as people around our area prepare various community gardens for spring planting. This is how apt/condo dwellers can have a garden, & it doesn’t cost much.
You must like BPA in your suppose to be HEALTHY growing? I wouldn't touch anything "silicon." To each his or her own I guess. I just wish people would do research instead of blindly trusting whatever goes on the market as the latest and greatest trendy thing.
Is this something you continued to use? I'm thinking of gettting some type of hydroponics grow system and was wondering if others felt is was worthwhile. I was thinking of planting greens for the winter months.
Got another question u notice the light isn't turning off and on rite it goes off at different times every day amazon is sending me a new on u ha e any issues like that
Hi I am asking you because you have a lot of knowledge with storing foods.... I have plastic bins different sizes that you would store sweaters in . Do you think it’s safe to store boxed Mac and cheese in ? And bags of rice? Thanks
Very tempted on this, u can 3d print more cups or just take the peat out and replace it with mineral wool. Nutrient wise u should be able to go 3rd party and follow the directions
You can replant pretty much anything. Just expect a diminished production/sketchy looking plant health for a week or two/three if you do. If you follow all other best practices, you should be fine.
I have an Aero Garden and it seems to be a simpler system. From my experience, you have to keep all your plants about the same height for the light to continue to hit all the plants.
Hydroponics is how I grow. I have tomatoes basil dill lettuce and strawberry plants. Yes you need media to grow in but as you said clay pebbles work. Also there are other fertilizers you can use.
Why didn't you use the little thing that goes over the water monitor that shows how much water is in it? The instruction Manuel that comes with it is not good at all, your video helped.
Thanks for the review. It does look fun, but you are right. It wouldn’t feed my big crew for a minute. Kind of the same problems I have with micro greens. Fun but not very practical for us.
Get yourself a double stack of racks to fit 10x20 grow pans and you can grow an absolute ton of microgreens. Some, like peas, can even be harvested twice. Microgreens with LED lights and a timer are extremely low-energy and efficient. I think you would benefit by looking into them more. I found it almost impossible to eat enough of mine even though I like dinner salads and a salad at every meal, as well as sauteeing the greens, etc. Setting up microgreens is way more knowledge-intensive than what is gotten into in this video, but the productivity is profound! And the nutrition is amazing. And it is not hard at all. Now think about staggering your planting times and getting a standing shelf unit for microgreens and buying seeds in bulk and you will never lack for fresh supremely healthy greens ever again.
@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 thank you! Crazy coincidence, I just bought a small packet of seeds to try. I’m going to try it small scale, then I’ll have your information to bulk it up.
Or you can use regular old school incandescent light bulbs. In the house I always wear blue blocking glasses, in my own room I use incandescent light bulbs to light the room. But using computer I always have blue blocking glasses. And take lutein + zeaxanthin regularly.
Fertilizer: Hydro-garden Chemgro is a powdered hydroponic fertilizer. I recommend their 25lbs bags which are potent and an can last for years. I bought two bags and have not used them up after 7 years. You save much more money than buying liquid version, but you need hot water to easily mix and dissolve the powder. Their Hobby formula is general purpose and only need to add epsom salt. Tomato formula is good for fruits, but need both epsom salt and calcium nitrite. 25lbs bag used to be $50 five years ago ago, now is more expensive due to rising cost, but even at current price will last a very long time. You want to store them in a bucket with air sealed lid because moisture can make the powder clumps, but it's not that bad. Follow the instruction, don't over use fertilizer as it is counter productive to the growth and waste money. Starter plugs: 1inch Rockwool cubes. Buy 200-400 rockwool cubes at a time and it last many seasons. Airpump for oxygen: Technically you don't need them, "kratky method" is no airpump just leave an air gap for some of the roots the breath. For low electricity, not sure how well it work, but try a USB airpump powered by solar. Air stones choice is important. Cheap tiny air stones do not put out much bubbles, try cylinder ones. Fixing Flickering LED light: Look up videos on how to fix flickering led light, a video called "Aerogarden LED Repair". I bought 2 Aerogarden from 2014 or 2015. Approx 2 years later the lights start to flicker (probably by design). I just had to unsolder the three bad radial capacitors and solder in new 25v 1500uf ones, now its 2022 and the units are still working great. UFO Grow light: The main growlight I use right now the TopoGrow UFO. they have 300w or 600w option (the actual electricity usage is less). It's full spectrum, fanless, and the light color is yellow. It cover a wide area and is very convenient to raise and lower. I highly recommend not buying pink or purple grow lights which is a great way to invite police and criminals to your property for obvious reason. My favorite plant to grow with my Aerogarden is the lettuce leaf basil, Migardener called it Mammoth basil.

I have not used it before and I want to start out early enough to get them started for the gardening for next year
Thank for that excellent review! Just bought that and now im confident.
What is the extra/13th grow pot for? (The hydroponic grow pot without openings)
You didn’t put the clear water level indicator over the yellow level rod for some reason?

I don’t see the need of the water, it makes sense to plant in pots and have just the light on top.
PAY DEBT DOWN OR BUY MORE PREPS? FEEDBACK PLEASE.

Buy more preps, nesara/gesara is going to cancel all debts, use the card and keep prepping!
Total POS! Pump stopped working after 2 uses. Cleaned it, took pump apart etc...NO way to replace just the pump.WASTE OF MONEY IMO
rubbish system my model lights won't eun properly ! Not worth the money
