So good to to hear everything you both had to say. Thank you for explaining how the depression effects you. The fact that your husband is in tune with this part of you is amazing and huge. His support is something I wish for but it takes someone very special to understand.
Take care and I'd love to see your garden.

Agreed! I grew up in the 60's when long straight hair was the thing, and spent years fighting my curly frizzy locks and trying to "control" it. Until I realized it could be a gift if I let it and learned to embrace it. I think as it gets longer the weight will relax some of the curl, but whatever. It may be different for you but it really is beautiful!

Two-time cancer survivor here - cancer is definitely a life-changing event. There is the person (and loved ones) before, and then the person (and loved ones) after. It is an exclusive club we belong to, and those not in the club are unable to understand why we don’t just wrap things up and move on. I don’t think they are insensitive-they just have a different frame of reference.
You will both find that cancer becomes integrated with the rest of your life. And in the process you will start to feel whole again. Congrats on the scans, on the garden, on the positive improvement from a new medication, and on the more relaxed demeanor emanating from you both!!!!

"Replaying the scenes" ...this hits so close to home. I recently got access to a portal of my medical records since I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer last August. I made the mistake of reading through the doctors and nurses notes. I replayed those moments and the ones that I repressed. In the moment I felt incredibly overwhelmed and sad. My dad and I hugged for a few minutes and he reminded me that it was a record of all that I had overcome and that it was okay to grieve what had just happened to me. I think I'm beginning to truly understand the phrase "this too shall pass." The scars and memories are still so fresh. Let's be kind to ourselves. Hugging you both so tightly from afar.

Jessica! The hair! Adoreable! I’ve been a curly girl all my life. It’s indeed a mixed blessing. Welcome to the curly club! I’ll be turning 70 next month and have actually been at peace with it for more than a few decades now. My secret weapon for moisture and humidity is actually called Frizz Ease Secret Weapon! It’s a leave in conditioner in a purple tube by John Frieda. I put it in my hair when wet. Also sometimes as a finishing cream when the curls are a little more dry or crazy. It’s reasonably price at around $9 and is at most pharmacies, Walmart, target, etc…. Good luck on your coming life chapters. So happy for your success, post cancer. I’m also a cancer and chemo survivor from breast cancer. Keep on smiling! 🌺

When you said that you have to live a different than people who haven't had this happen. I understand what your feeling. But here's another way that might work. You're back to start one. Live as if it never happened as much as possible. Don't hang on that next scan. Live your life as if nothing has happened if you can. It's a massive learning curve, Easier said than done. But right now you're just a person who's growing curly hair l o l. Please don't think of yourself as anything differand or a manifest something of is something other than you're well. It's the thought process in this dress that does the most damage I am convinced. Work in your garden, Love your husband! Enjoy life you're here and things aren't any different at this moment. Don't go past the day that you're and as much as you possibly can again like. I said it's a learned behavior. I made so many comments here that i'm embarrassed. But I have dealt with this in more than one way with myself and other people. And the people that do the best are the ones that just go on. I know it's hard. But then again it's just as easy. And like that dear person next to you said you're doing great. So many things happen to us during living. The only thing we can do is keep going forward and living in that exact moment enjoying everything we possibly can. And from an outside perspective you seem to be able to do that well. So you have a good start in that process i'm trying to explain the best I can. Don't live as somebody with cancer when you've been given a good report. Take it and go! Find that hair gel.

Also I really appreciate how Jessica is presenting the issues and feelings she’s coping with post surgery. This is SO helpful to so many.. the cancer part, waiting, blood work, scans, ongoing …. And your anxiety. Since millions of people deal with anxiety and depression, discussing this in depth is extremely helpful. You do it in such a way that it’s very relatable. So thank you. My hair post chemo/radiation came back in wavy vice stick straight but came back in my normal dark brown. My mothers black hair came bqck in post radiation wild and crazy gray. So its all very individual i think. Sometimes after all the medical issues have been resolved and there is a sigh of relief the aftermath can have its own issues like worry about the future and every odd symptom can contribute as well as a view of ones own mortality. Ive been there but ive found i can get past this sometimes by just doing things i enjoy-gardening/reading/enjoying my dogs and my little wildlife and barnyard buddies and my family and music. It helps.

Jessica I just had my 6 month checkup. Everything you are saying I am feeling just like you. Everyone thinks I should be kicking up my heals because I’m cancer free. But I have neuropathy very exhausted after work. And the hair is totally crazy 😜. My hair dresser cut it twice just to get the fuzzy ends off. She told me to us Morocco oil and hair gel in my hair. It has helped keeping it a little less wild. I always had curly hair but this is crazy 😜. We just have to let it grow so we can actually have a hairstyle.
I think of you very often and pray for you daily.

Everything today is good, that’s what matters. I’m looking at the next two weeks testing for my monitoring appointment for my Lymphoma /Leukemia. I’m 2 1/2 years from diagnosis and W&W(watch and wait) no treatment yet. I’m the gal that was caregiver for my husband for over three years. He lost his fight 14 months ago now. I turned 75 on May 1. All we can do is keep the faith, try to keep busy. I suffer from the number one complaint of my diagnosis Extreme Exhaustion. I listen to my body and take a rest when needed. Your outdoor garden is a blessing. I too am gardening only all in containers and a GreenStalk. It’s my blessing. It’s just me and my Kitty M&M. Daughter and grandson are here for a visit. I’m so glad you’re doing so much better Jessica. You definitely have a bit of a spark about you this time and it’s good to hear your scan results are going in the right direction. Gardening is a great way to sort out your head - I know I find it very therapeutic. Perhaps you could show us round your garden? I’d love to know what you’ve both been planting and planning! 🍓🫑🥬

    1) Yay for clear scans! 2) Your hair is super cute. There are curly hair product that can help keep the curl definition and minimize the poof. 3) Yay for the garden; I'd love to see what you planted, what grew, what didn't, and any hopes you have for the future or things you'd change going forward. 4) I love that you have shared what your chemo recovery is like, I feel like it can help people living with cancer recovery survivors as well as people in the thick of chemo. 5) You look so much brighter. I'm glad that the medicine change seems to be helping you, and I'm SO SO SO Proud of you for everything you have achieved. 6) Brian, you're a rockstar and I'm so proud of you.

Honestly Jessica, I think your hair is the cutest right now! I would keep the pixie and just keep it cleaned up around the edges. You seriously rock this look and if you feel you need to have a little more control of it then use some paste. Happy to hear everything is finally on the right track. Busy yourself like you're doing with work, garden, family and some new recipes. We're here waiting for the kitchen stuff again. Much love & big hugs!! ~M

So good to see your video!!
From someone who’s always had straight hair with no curls whatsoever - I envy those new locks of yours!
Something that I’d enjoy seeing is videos of you gardening, via shopping for the seeds/plants, general garden planting, tending & progress.
Jessica - If you ever start to feel the blues hitting you, I’d suggest you pull up your videos, with the volume turned off, & just sit & watch how Brian looks at you. That man is madly in love with you. I know when feelings of depression set in there’s almost nothing we can do but go through them & wait them out, but maybe those Brian looks of love & admiration might ease it just a touch.🤍
Again, wonderful to see your post! 🙂

When my sister's hair grew back it looked exactly the same after chemo. Great news on the scan. It really shows that you both pushing for surgery was the right call. I totally understand the singing thing. When I'm super depressed I don't sing either.

My hair did the exact same thing. It got really curly and quite gray (even grayer than yours). It settles down after about a year. I chose to get it trimmed and cut the curl off as it got longer. Eventually the texture went back to normal (wavy) but the I am still a little more gray than before the chemo, however, I am 58. I chose to color my hair, as I was highlighting before the cancer. Be patient and it will get easier!! So glad the scans came back with good news!!

Jessica, you have been an inspiration to me during my own breast cancer battle that began on 10/2822. I too have been to the scariest places with one little roadblock after another to land here, post chemo and surgery and pre radiation, at a place where I don’t have any evidence of disease. Which is so different from saying I am cured. I FEEL YOU. I sense that you want to be positive and optimistic but not recklessly blissful, as that would not honor where you have been. I liken it to having an abusive partner who causes you to be on guard and then he finds Jesus and changes and any normal person would say “hold up, I get to say when I let go of the past. This is good news but I am still processing”. I don’t know if that makes any sense but that is kind of what I am experiencing right now. You are both in my prayers. Life will settle for you God willing as it will for me but please continue to be gracious with yourself. This is a lot. Oh and have you tried ceramic or Velcro rollers? I am at the early stages of regrowth so am excited to see what grows back for me!

You could now focus on being a pioneer in doing videos on how to stay super healthy living in the aftermath of cancer. As a year 2 colon cancer survivor myself, I find there are lots of people who talk extensively about "preventing" cancer. You could be the pioneers in all things to do with "surviving" cancer with healthy living principles. Plant based eating is of course key, movement is v important eg studies show a 30% improvement in disease free survival if you just exercise about 6 hours a week after cancer.
I would love to have people like you to watch to keep me going as I fight to keep cancer recurrence at bay.
No-one in the plant based community focuses on "stopping cancer coming back". It's a real gap for us. Thank you so much. You are such lovely people and I'm so glad you have good news.

Now that Jessica is doing much better I would like to see Brian get back on track taking care of himself. Maybe like how to start up again after gaining back some of the weight you lose. A lot of us have been there, losing weight gaining weight. I understand it is hard to take care of yourself when taking care of someone you love needs you, that's just natural. Videos of cancer fighting recipes as well. So happy for you both, your future looks bright and blessed.

We are glad things are getting back to normal a bit. We would love to see the garden. And Brians new recipes. And Brian on his bike. And you both taking walks in the park. We would love to see Brian play the guitar, hear Jessica sing... An early menopause is nor easy. My mom had one. It was heavy on her. And me, being the eldest daughter. But we did the best we could. Taking it easy helped a lot. We love you guys. We appreciate you guys. And bring back the fun

My hair did the same thing. It was utterly crazy. Went to a stylish-thar didn't get any better. A friend gave me some super duper hair jel to keep the Mohawk looking parts tamed down. By the way, your hair is the cutest I've ever seen it. Maybe the hair can be celebrated for its cuteness. ??
Anyone who had gone through this is NOT putting a bow on it. It took me about 3 years for the panic to stop. It's been 6 years now, I am way more relaxed, my guard is not down, but, the anxiety is just a low hum instead if a roar.

How about a walk around your city - healthy for you and fun for us. A drive around your city with some stops at restaurants and grocery stores. All of the above with plenty of chatting. Hi Jessica and Brian, SO happy to see you two. Jessica your hair looks so cute. I had my hysterectomy when I was 28 which caused hot flashes etc. My doctor had me take Vit. E and it really helped. You might want to run that by your doctor. You look so much happier this video. You had gone through so much and then menopause hits. Hormones or should I say lack of them can also cause depressing. I am praying for the both of you. Brian you are an amazing caretaker and husband. You have both been so strong. You are both so blessed. Big hugs and blessings
