I just bought the Lionel ES44AC #6111. It is awesome, same engine. Yes, it will run on Fastrack 048 with no problems. You just need the right rolling stock with it. The older rolling stock from 2002 - 2009 will work perfect. Need that coupler drawbar to swing out and it will not derail the car. Engine is A+ Love it.

I recently moved into O Gauge last month this year and I really love it. I have a micro end to end depot based layout that can hold 3 locomotives with a 4th at a push. I really like this model from Lionel although I am starting off with Heljan and Dapol and the name of my layout is Hermes Road TMD. It's early days but it gives me a lot of fun to run trains. I haven't had mine do the braking sound at 6:58 in this video. Does this only happen when it has freight cars attached? I've run mine engine only so far.
I'm running using the bluetooth lionchief app until my base 3 arrives.

I’m not sure how the braking sound works on the lion chief app, I’m using a legacy remote to run the trains that’s how I’m able to use that sound.
