These are M1s, and M1IPs being taken out of long storage in the high desert. They are on their way to Aniston Alabama to be broken down for rebuild. Once broken down they will be retrained and sent to Lima Ohio to become M1A2SEPV3s.

I counted 95 tanks. I'm back, 3 years later, September 2023, still counting. This time I count 97 tanks, and about 14 are single oads in the front of the train, the rest double loads.

Well captured. Three different angles and different places. No shaking of camera. Never a dull moment for the train enthusiasts. The sirens in the beginning and no train visible, add drama to the incoming giant! Great video!

Lifelong UK Railway enthusiast enjoyed watching all twelve plus minutes of that. Thanks for posting.
Maybe an illusion created by the lens, considering the size of the USA, what surprised me was to see the very tight radii of some of the curved parts of those sections of track. Here in little old UK, such tight curves are rare. We have long freight trains in the UK ~ helps keep freight off our traffic laden Roads and Motorways, but nowhere near as long as you have over there. Impressive stuff.

Former Abrams operator here. Never got to see the trains travel between bases, as I was at either end waiting for them. I also became the UMO (Unit Movement Officer) who's job is to supervise and plan the rail movement of the vehicles. Every one of those tanks has fuel (not much admittedly) and is capable of being driven for a good distance. All ammo and installed weapons like the mounted machine guns are not present however for obvious reasons. The most back breaking part is doing the tiedown thing, and after that guiding the vehicles just so onto the cars is much harder than you think. Another important thing to note is that Abrams tanks (and Bradley IFV's) aren't driven everywhere. We transport them via truck (HEMTT) to the loading and unloading zones. Driving the vehicle is only done in short distances for maintenance or fueling, longer distances are only traveled for training exercises and proper war. I could keep going, but congrats for reading this far! Best job I ever had!

i used to work for sp signal here in the 1980s. what a amazing exciting place. non stop trains 24/7 365. probably one of the best places in america for rail fans, (also cajon pass about 100 miles southeast of here on interstate 15) this is no place for inexperienced engineers and conductors. very easy to stringline a train out here. (pulling lighter weight cars off the tracks around a curve if there is too much weight on the back of the train. generally a train should be loaded heaviest cargo front. a 4500' train will cross over itself here on the over pass. i worked out of palmdale but loved it when we had jobs in mojave and tehachapi

Those all look like older model M1's. Like M1A1. None have the independent commander's sight found on the M1A2, and several are missing road wheels - most commonly the middle two. Also looking at the variety of paint schemes (tan, olive, and three-color NATO) I think that these are all older model tanks going to disposal or possibly remanufacture into newer versions.

11,640,000 pounds of tanks (not including the train). Also, looks like the center wheel section goes out more often than the others and they are apparently scavenged quite often.

I got 12,028,000 lb. (97 tanks x 62 tons x 2,000 lb. per ton). Oops, you're right. Some of them were missing road wheels and side plates.
