5:20 - The whole point of the change from 'deliberate out of bounds' to 'insufficient intent to keep in play' was to cover this. So-called 'kicking to touch' is now a free kick by design
Great vid, keep them up! I will say though the Freo insufficient intent call is 100% correct. What he's meant to do in that situation is use his hands to take possession of the ball and then take a controlled disposal towards a teammate instead. A wayward kick without using hands is always insufficient intent because gaining ground without control of the ball has less intention at keeping the ball in play than a controlled disposal (towards a teammate).
04:30 - Brayshaw has his arm up to call for the ball (maybe trying to draw a 50m penalty a la Riewoldt 2017 th-cam.com/video/jHRZTGFQAsc/w-d-xo.html ). Umpire was awake to it, that's why no 50m penalty is called
Not sure how much this will interest you but Serong kicking the ball off the deck towards the boundary to clear the pack should be a free kick against. The rule comes from the spirit "the players shall endeavour to keep the ball in play" and the law is (not verbatim) "if a player is deemed to have not shown sufficient intent to keep the ball in play a free kick should be paid against them".
I was sure you would include Sicily this week - either the kick-in barrel to past halfway or the bullet off a step to find Dear in the pocket. Both worthy entries.
5:49 I reckon at the end of the season you should award a point of the year. Maybe you could make a little certificate and get it to the player somehow.
Deliberately passing the ball to a team mate away from the ump when the he is calling for it should be a free kick. And it is a free kick in the rule book. 4:36 the umpire was calling for the ball to go to Fyfe, not for himself, you can't whinge and say theres no consistency when they're two different plays. One of them the umpire was calling for the ball, one of the the umpire was asking for the ball to be given to a Freo player.
Hey mate I really thought changkouth Jiath (CJ) deserved to be in the vid in the 2nd qt he got pushed out of p,any out of bounds and then he jumped up on the fence and dapped up a fan
As someone that umpires sport. The first minute of the game there is a lot of adrenaline and you are still getting your eye in for distances and calls. Sometimes you are just trying to keep an eye on the play ahead and in the second that takes you a kick has happened and you aren’t sure if it was or wasn’t far enough and you just have to trust your gut.
3:34 - 1 Year ban, antisocial behaviour, $11,000 fine for opening the gate and nearly going onto the field and falling onto someone else without your eyes on the ball
For Harley Reid’s specky attempt, a different angle shows the defender take his eyes off the ball to stop Harley’s run and jump. That’s why Reid thought it was his free kick he was blocked and I’m a Geelong supporter so not biased
4:22 There was no free paid because the Collingwood player threw the ball to the wrong Fremantle player when it was Freo's. However, in the 4th quarter, Collingwood threw it to another Collingwood player when it wasn't collingwoods ball.
My biggest oddity for this round has to be the Crows coach putting in Berry as a tactical sub when we are like 60 points ahead, immediately within the first minute of the 3rd quarter he impacts the game in a major way idk why he isn’t just given full games or a chance unless we have already lost or already won
A lot of umpire slander this week, I definitely think most of these calls were the correct calls except for maybe the McLean one (do note that I go for swans). In my opinion the boundary one is completely acceptable as the entire ball has to be out and the boundary umpire looked to be in a great position.
Freo/Collingwood: Shouldn't have been a free even if it was a free Backflip: Its great to see. Love a bit of personality Geelong/GWS: It's plays like that that are contributing to "dangerous tackles". If you incentivise keeping your feet and not stopping play, there will be more concussion Amis: Shouldn't have been a free given the way he was getting treated but it's technically a free much like the Freo one that helped decide the draw Touched?: I don't like that. Not at all Umpire: God you'd think Cripps got subbed out after that one the way he hit the deck. Talk about playing for a free Papley: Pretty good goal. Not a GOTY but very good 50: that's not a mark. Forget 50 Blokes in the crowd: Love to see it. Good laugh Nat Fyfe: I know you were being factitious but when you hold up your own team is different. Even though the other was an accident and didn't affect anything it theoretically could be used to set up CHAD: It's a freaking great mark. Being in a pack adds to it. It won't beat Elliot, but it's much closer than it seems Serong: I don't mind it if it's consistent. But I seem to recall a game with Collingwood and Carlton where worse wasn't paid in the dying seconds Out of bounds: I'm of the firm opinion that we are in the wrong position to see if that ball is out. Remember the *ENTIRETY* of the ball needs to be out of bounds. We are looking from inside play to the boundary. I'm pretty confident it was two great calls rather than two bad calls Barrass: Rachelle is going straight to a 2025 footy card Tex: He'd have kicked that any other year. In fact he's not been moving well this season. Maybe that back niggle needs more of a rest Dusty: great goal. Though he doesn't have the same impact in a poor midfield Falcon: man that sucks. At least it's not as bad as the Witts one Nank: Underrated young player. Always 100% effort at all times Garcia: I am getting sick of the players drawing frees. Love to see someone hold their ground McGovern: *WASTED* Neale Bullen: Good sport about it. I like it Reid: gotta love the effort on the mark attempt at least. The fend off is probably what pushed Rachelle high. I'm on the fence there Over the line?: makes sense not to stop active play. Would rather see it just be umps call Roos: that was pathetic effort all game. Won't win games like that Cox: gotta love that heckler. You don't have to be a bad human to give a good heckle Greene: never questioned his talent. Just everything else about that smug faced bucket of old cheese Things you missed in my opinion Chayce Jones goal while being tackled. Big miss there Dawson and Reid getting stuck in. Reid gives Dawson a not unfair but very unfriendly hit. To which Daws lines him up a few mins later and bowls gim over. You can see him mouth "he did it to me!" Before the two break bread
Pies fan here, I was ok with the umpiring in our game. They made a few mistakes both ways, great game imo. One thing I thought was interesting this week was everyone moaning that Harley Reid didn't get a free for being blocked in that marking attempt 7:48 I think there needs to be a statement from the AFL about these situations because if its ok to knee a player in the head and concuss them in a marking contest, then surly its ok for that player do stop that from happening by doing exactly what Sullivan did to protect himself. - McGovern is the worst flop in the AFL, yes needs to be fined, he's an absolute embarrassment to the game.
Specsavers should be back to sponsoring the Umpires, it is both fitting and true all at the same time. The sad part is, the umpiring is getting worse especially in really good games.
Watched the Wb syd game and pies freo, man the frees really ruined it for me. Ried is doing some great stuff and is fun to watch but Daicos is a few steps ahead for sure.
Definitely Daicos! Not returning directly to umpire is wasting time?!!! What - a few milliseconds?!!!? Want to stop time wasting how about doing away with stoppages altogether - make it illegal to hold the ball against the man!!! Too drastic? How drastic was out on the full when introduced?, 50 mtr penalties?!!!etc….
As a swannies fan it’s never nice going out with a win on the back of two horrible calls that almost certainly snuffed out an opponent’s comeback and cemented the win. Disgraceful umpiring across the round. Don’t get me wrong, doggies can suck a battered savv, but they deserved a fair crack and that wasn’t it.
It is a free kick because it's been paid before. The rule is give the ball to the umpire, not a teammate. They've paid it on the boundry before so lack of awareness from Collingwood and fully deserving of a free kick
You were a bit off this week, not up to your usual standard. The last one was for a 50m penalty for not standing the mark. The two giving the ball back - the first one (a free kick) was because it should have been given to the umpire, not another player. The Freo one was to a player (albeit the wrong one). This is not a free kick. The Bulldogs spoil was line-ball, but I've seen those given many, many times.
The free for time wasting has to hold. There's too many grey areas in the game already without giving the decision to umpire judgement. Correct decision. Don't know whether you saw Butter's goal in his first ten seconds.
Umpiring has gone to the dogs in the last two years. It was never great but I feel that the standard and consistency of umpiring has tanked in recent years.

You are spot on with players flopping. They are constantly going to ground these days, even when gathering crumbs

In the brayshaw and fyfe incident you can see brayshaw puting his hand up to Lipinski which would've caused confusion
Not sure how much this will interest you but Serong kicking the ball off the deck towards the boundary to clear the pack should be a free kick against. Most odd thing of the round for me was the Crows winning a game.
Ur a lunatic. If they're versing west coast at home, who do you expect to win. Remember the game last year?
Deliberately passing the ball to a team mate away from the ump when the he is calling for it should be a free kick. the freo free kick is a free kick, it’s in the rule book. unfortunate where it was (in front of freo goal) but it’s a rule and stupid yes
wishing you would've included the weirdly long wait for a ball up in the bombers game!
Hey mate I really thought changkouth Jiath (CJ) deserved to be in the vid in the 2nd qt he got pushed out of p,any out of bounds and then he jumped up on the fence and dapped up a fan

Cripps instinctively went to ground after the hit from the ump lol
That free against Amiss is shocking, both sides were gifted goals by umpires wanting to be the stars
A lot of umpire slander this week, I definitely think most of these calls were the correct calls except for maybe the McLean one (do note that I go for swans). The umpire will probably get a fine because it was accidental head high contact but he might get a 1 match suspension 2:31
Daicos everyday. Reid is just a highlight reel.
Harley Reid constantly dropped the knees all game and instead of it being called holding the ball he was getting high contact
McGovern went down to the rooms twice and got a pillow on his ribs after the punch by Lukosius. Not really a flop
Daicos all day. More class.
4:37 at least it gets paid the next week, the unps must watch your videos 😂
Pies fan here, I was ok with the umpiring in our game. They made a few mistakes both ways, great game imo. They derserved the win but his first mark looked liked it was touched on tv 😢
Nick Daicos

Best series on TH-cam
No matter who you ask, the other team was favoured by the umpires. I’m pretty sure the correct answer is the umpires are just bad
Daicos over Reid coz I'm a Freo fan
7:47 Reid was blocked. No. 48 eyes off the ball and moved directly into Reid.
Keep up the work
7:25 Floyd Maywheather? You could have said someone that's actually a hard hitter.
Mate... I couldn't even take one hit from prime Mayweather
I love your content

How drastic was out on the full when introduced?, 50 mtr penalties?!!!etc….
Mcreary in the third or fourth quarter running 30 metres without bouncing it then bombing it inside 50 for a richards goal
Bro oddities alr?! I could get used to this

bit of Crows bias here,Reid was so clearly blocked in that contest
Poor Vandermeer... True fact: My dads cousin is his mum! so I am Latham Vandermeers 2nd cousin!
Daicos absolutely clears
Reid is good but Nick Daicos everyday
Commenting for the algorithm
they should let players vote on umpires to see who the worst umps are at the end of the year.
