Thanks. The big problem is all our videos have pre-roll ads and there is no way to bulk remove them. We're removing the ads from today's videos, but hopefully this will get fixed before we have to manually reprogram 1085 videos!
Hey guys. The pre-roll ads do seem to be creating a problem. We've turned them off for now so you can enjoy the video. Don't get too excited though, because we'll need to turn them on once the bugs get worked. :-)
This is really great episode. Not touching the interview thing, this is suitable for me. I think I can feel how much heart and effort was thrown into making this one. It came out really well! Last bits of video with Walter are priceless. Such WOT format I def will watch again.
I can really appreciate that the interviewee isn't stumbling over all his words and what he wants to get across. I can't stand when an interview is full of ugh and ums. Well done MotorTrend!
"Here, I cannot say I'm a good driver. I can only say it's a good car." What a powerful statement by Herr Rohrl. Ladies and gentlemen: the state of the modern sports car industry!
I think he did a great job explaining the car for what it is and leaves it to the consumer to make his or her mind as the exercise here is to promote the car to a buyer good work
Arthure, you gotta do Puerto Rico for one of your epic drives! Look up pictures of the bioluminescent bay, el yunque waterfall, and old san juan! Get a hold of me and I'd be glad to tell you much much more. There is a huge tuner community here and they love their rally cars here. Puerto Ricans really love their cars, and the food is amazing!
There is one thing that I wanted to point out about the single clutch autos that I learned living with an E60 M5 for a short while: Yes, it is annoying to the point of embarrassment when you make somebody's head bob wildly. the fix for that is to lift off the throttle perfectly in sync with the (up-)shift. It is almost as satisfying as heel-and-toeing, but the passenger doesn't notice a thing. Try it next time, it will make daily driving much more enjoyable.
Nice episode. When the time comes for it, I believe I speak for everyone when I say We want to see the GT3 compared to the 911 Turbo S, and as icing on the cake, maybe throw in a 997 GT3 RS 4.0! Great work though, I enjoy the enthusiastic journalism! Keep it up!
the 2014 GT3 is such an amazing car on the track or on the road. It has "palm sweating" performance and is so fun to drive. It is reliable and designed to be driven..hard. Just wait for the 2014 GT3RS! These machines are scary fast and so exciting to drive. Forget top speed, it is all about cornering and acceleration that will blow your mind.
Another great WOT! For the ultimate GT3 video you guys should get Walter Rohrl and Randy Pobst together in the GT3 and watch them both wring the car out on a fun track and video them having fun doing it. Not so much of a who's the better driver but two excellent drivers that love Porsche really having fun with it... But if one of them starts the lap counter so be it ;-)
I bet after about 2 or 3 years you'd be happier if you got the turbo:) The ONLY thing I don't like about the turbo is knowing the turbo's will eventually have to be rebuilt or replaced.
We try new things all the time, and consider ourselves at the forefront of the medium (look at our numbers vs the competition.) This episode was one where we tried something new. Sorry you didn't like it but thank you for the criticism.
Walter Rohrl brakes for squirrels!! He also, along with Marc Lieb and Timo Kluck broke the 7 minute lap time record at the Nurburg Ring in the new Porsche 918!!! (sorry for no umlauts)
Great WOT, as always. Not a Porsche fan myself, but I don't mind learning about the things I don't like (unless we're talking about being back in school :P ). Oh, and what happened at 14:02? Carlos' face turns into "The Writers of the Round Table," haha.
Quote 20:34-20:57 "I have a 964 RS, which is a nice car, from 1991. Which is a nice car without electronic Help, no ABS nothing, which is something, it´s real car driving you know it´s up to me to go fast. And here I cannot say I´m a good driver, I only can say it´s a good car." If you are searching for reasons why cars are getting more and more unsatisfying to drive..... Imho, I wanna time travel back to the 70´s....
I meant tech as in phones/games/facebook etc that you were pointing the finger at earlier. I totally agree with PDK/dual clutch transmissions (car tech), they are faster but not as fun. I hope supercar/sport car makers realise this and keep a manual option.
MotorTrend for your next WOT, can you put your input out on the new redesign 2015 Suburban/Tahoe & Yukon XL? That would be so cool to hear what you guys have to say about GM's full sized SUV's.
The 2013 GT500 comes standard with the 15" rotors and the 6 piston Brembos......the pads are the issue, street worthy, low dust pads. Change the pads to something aggressive(at the expense of rotor life) and it'll stop just fine.
Didn't miss DJSketch's comments or the others that found this episode entertaining/insightful/etc. The taste of cheese is subjective, and while I thank you for weighing in your opinion on what works and what doesn't, you should know that we're not embarrassed about the quality of our programming. The bottom line is that I know we're delivering way more than what you paid for. Thanks for watching. And - cheers!
If that's the case, your better off with the turbo s because you get the full leather luxury interior. The only advantage IMO of the GT3 is it gets all it's power sans any forced induction. That's what is so stunning about the new 458 Ferrari Special. 605 hp. from a normally asparated V-8! The McLaren needed 2 turbo's to get 600 hp.
The GTR is an incredibly powerful car that is in fact a track terror. The problem is very few hours of vehicle ownership is spent on a race track. As an everyday living proposition, just about all testers agree it simply falls short of just about anything Porsche builds. As well, I have watched many comparisons btwn it and several Porsches and can't recall it winning a single one. I have actually owned several Porsches, do u own a GTR or will u ever?
The 911 is a sports car and the Veyron is a luxury car with lots of power from its truck engine. The Veyron is super heavy, so it depends a lot on its engine for it to go fast.
This is a bizarre way to review a car. The awkwardness emanating from the "interviewers" is apparent. Do you really expect us to believe that you are speaking with your correspondent live in Germany?
You have no idea who the "aging guy" is do you? Your comment is pretty funny though considering that the "aging guy" is a living legend and probably one of the most knowledgeable/qualified individuals on Porsche 911's...but beyond that even if you didn't know who he is, why would you bag on such a gentleman? Anyone would be blessed to have a guy like that in their life.
actually all testers said the veyron handles extremely good for a car that is almost 2 tonnes :) but have to agree, the 991 GT3 for me is one of the most beautiful cars (would LOOOVE a ruf version of that) besides the aventador being beautiful on another level... more agressive, you know what i mean xD
Rohrl basically admitted that the gt3 is not a real driver's car anymore. With his private rs with no electronics he said "it's up to me to go fast", instead speaking of the gt3 he said "the car goes fast". I really hope that the rs will have a manual option
Sean e85 is almost pure alcohol and it does wear out the internals of your engine faster than gasoline on the up side it does give a considerable amount of power compared to pump gas and it is cheaper than race gas that's why a lot of tuners and week end warriors use e85 but at the same time strengthen the engine internals to take the added punishment
the super snake is built by shelby. its a modified gt500, ford built the car to contain 650hp not 850hp. they say in the video that its a tuner car not a production car
I'm uncertain as to whether or not the same video and camera technicians were used for this episode, but whoever shot or edited this episode seriously messed it up. Normally WOT is a bang on, but today, from a technical standpoint, MotorTrend, you should be ashamed.
Damn even the great said it best, his 964 he feels he is a great driver new cars you can only say it's a great car because anyone can get in it and drive fast the car does every thing for you
Ford Racing sells a a pretty massive brake upgrade kit for GT500 with 15 inch front rotors and 6 piston calipers. Ford has always marketed the GT500 towards people who just want a car with ludicrous amounts of power, and little else. Hence, things like brakes and suspension get overlooked.
Yes, because door handles seriously matter when driving a car, because instead of turning the steering wheel, you pull on the door handle. Not. Doesn't change the fact that this car can do just about anything an everyday driver can do except seat more than 2, and can also do everything a Mclaren 12C can do, and more, under heavy driving.
porsche's reasoning of having no manual option is stupid. so what if the pdk is a few tenths, or even a second faster. 99% of people who buy this car won't get anywhere near the limit of the car. but for the people who want to enjoy real driving will miss out. who cares about 0.5sec on a weekend track day. seriously...
But apparently those people still want to the car to be as fast as possible and everyone will be slower if it were manual transmission. Porsche's reason is sound, albeit not what you or others may want to hear. Not all of the people who want to "enjoy real driving" are upset that it comes only with PDK.
I've yet to drive either, but I'm sure either way would be fun. Perhaps there'd be something missing with the PDK, that control, but I still don't think that would sway too many previous manual owners. Everyone has said that the GT3 knows exactly the right gear to be in so much so that it does what you would do if it were manual, that seems pretty cool.
sultanabran1 Damn you got me there. You are correct that I'm not the engineer who built it and cannot explain in detail how it works. But I own a vehicle with a dual clutch 7 speed tranny, I know how it feels and am familiar with a dual clutch.
ReticentIndignation you mentioned in your previous post that 'the gt3 knows exactly what gear to be in'. see, any driver wouldn't even let the car what gear to be in, they would choose it themselves, preferrably with a manual gearbox.
For me, the new 2014 911's are quit the best super cars in the world. And its not only because I love porsches. Its the technical development. I feel that is much better than a Bugatti Veyron (No, I'm not crazy) The Veyron has a huge engineering package and more than 1000bhp... but at the end of the line, you could never drive the Bugatti as fast as an 911 in the REAL WORLD.... only in the Autobahn (Germany) or in a straight race track.... Maybe I'm wrong. Greetings to all.!!
when brake pedal travel increases with hard use at speed, this indicates brake "fade" which means that the brake fluid has overheated to the extent that it's most important property for automotive application (i.e. it's non-compressible nature) has been severely compromised due to excessive heat build-up from pads, calipers and rotors having been conducted to the fluid. Pulling over and allowing brakes to cool before continuing is the only solution.
Thanks. The big problem is all our videos have pre-roll ads and there is no way to bulk remove them. We're removing the ads from today's videos, but hopefully this will get fixed before we have to manually reprogram 1085 videos!

thanks Walter, you were my hero 35 years ago, and you are still my hero today.
This is really great episode. Not touching the interview thing, this is suitable for me. I think I can feel how much heart and effort was thrown into making this one. It came out really well! Last bits of video with Walter are priceless. Such WOT format I def will watch again.
Whisky in the table and talking about cars... HEAVEN FOR ME !!!
I can really appreciate that the interviewee isn't stumbling over all his words and what he wants to get across.
I can't stand when an interview is full of ugh and ums.
Well done MotorTrend!
Wow great move on the pre-roll ads removal, it shows you guys are paying attention to the problem but put the viewers first. Top job.

Really enjoyed the Walter röhrl interview. He's a legend!
The best WOT so far!!
i live in montana... that is my favorite road... the beautiful beartooth highway... thankyou for choosing my home to drive my favorite car
Thumbs up for Walter Röhrl a true living legend
Wow! great episode guys.. it gets better and better! Greetings from the netherlands
great video guys, luv Motor Trend...thanks keep up the good work
GT3 + Walter Röhrl? Perfect combination!
"The entry of the corner is the slowest point, then you accelerate!", this is the #1 rule for driving cars fast! A quote by Walter Röhrl......
im in love with the new gt3 great episode
Walter is such a legend!!! did a 7:04 in the 918 with 66 years
MotorTrend is the best.

Nice format. Very enjoyable to watch. Make mine a double on the rocks.
I like these vids , wonder why it took motor trend so long to start doing them ,they finally got to the 21st century.
Can't wait to see some GT3 RS and GT2 RS action.
great vid.....the tech on modern rides is amazin'
Awesome WOT episode
GT3 is so awesome , but i really need to see Walter Röhrl!
this is a slick production, I don't think the interview was live.
Mr. St. Antoine, please take your column back on the magazine, we sure miss your writing!
Keep it up!
Walter is a BOSS
replace a with the
Walter Röhrl....Godfather of driving! :)
the 2014 GT3 is such an amazing car on the track or on the road. It has "palm sweating" performance and is so fun to drive. It is reliable and designed to be driven..hard. I cant wait to see the new GT3 and the supersnake in the next best drivers car.
Amazing, naturally aspirated engine at 9.000rpm... That will be the stuff of legends soon! We better make sure to enjoy it while it lasts!
MotorTrend, if you're reading this. please consider changing the audio. The music and cars are too loud, and the voices are too quiet.
I thought i was the only one. That's a relief.
16:25 for Walter Röhrl.
Thanks:D
Another great WOT!

Love the shot at 14:00 lol!
Great car but I can't wait till the new NSX get here! I hope it's some good competition.
very true! but Walter expresses himself best behind the wheel. :)
Walter Röhrl is the MAN!
Walter Rohrl brakes for squirrels!! He also, along with Marc Lieb and Timo Kluck broke the 7 minute lap time record at the Nurburg Ring in the new Porsche 918!!! (sorry for no umlauts)
Giant Carlos Lago head at 14:01. That's trippy.
14:02 great editing. Still good episode guys :)
Nice video motor trend!
Wish I can drive as good as he does after I am old :)
Amazing video!

Great finish with Rohrl.
Don't get all the hate. If you don't like it, move on. Great episode IMHO. GT3 could be the car of 2014 MY

Right, the number is 991... But that is the technical number. The commercial number is still as 911.
Thanks for your remark.

anyone who stops for squirrels in a sports car is a good person in my book. ROFL
Really, you didn't like the Walter Rohrl bit at the end? I thought it was awesome. But I am biased. Thanks for watching.

Great video

What other fundamental aspects of the 911 would you want to them to ask about...the angles of the seat bolsters?
No Squirrels were harmed during the filming of this segment...at least with Walter Rohl.
"ah look a squirell... hallo!"

1 thing I always wish for is meetin Walter Röhl, my other wish is to see a 918 dpyder with turbochargers instead of batteries.
Actually, it's not the Underwood account, it's the "Underhill" account.
