    While I was watering my Arrowhead vine, I noticed fuzzy, little insects sucking the life from my plant. I have an infestation! Join me, as I discuss how to ID, prevent, and get rid of mealybugs!
    Homemade Insecticidal Soap
    1-gallon water
    2 1/2 tablespoons Dawn dish soap (original blue version, no fragrance)

    I had a mealy bug infestation on my gardenia, my plant went from full lush to a handful of leaves. I sprayed the entire thing with neem oil. It stinks but I assume that is what prevents bugs from infesting. The way I did it was, get a tiny spray bottle, pour some neem oil into it and spray over every single spot the bugs were present at. For precautionary measure I spray the stems every week henceforth!

    Most species of mealy bugs actually prefer dry & hot environments. I'm not 100% about the long tails (the ones in this video) but mealy bugs really don't like humidity. This is why they're usually thriving on very dry plants in the heat of spring/fall when humidity levels are low but the temperature is still relatively warm.

    I have a Green Bell Pepper plant in a large pot outside next to my house with about 4 hours of direct sunlight (Orlando, Florida)... I started noticing these white clusters specks on the underside of the leaves, but not sure what it is "bugs or mold"???... It washes off easy when I rinsing the leaves, but only when I rub it off with my fingers, and then the leaf is nice & green again.... This has been going on for a few months and doesn't go away.

    I had a dwarf umbrella plant. I have white spots only on the branch. All the information I’ve read and vids I’ve seen don’t mention white spots on the branch. I’m stumped.

    Thank you for your video! I am currently having my very first pest problem and it is mealy bugs! Unfortunately, I had to throw away one plant tonight and watched my prized string of bananas fail just because the plant was too full to get to all of them. I need your help though. I found them on my wandering jew and this plant is HUGE and delicate. How in the world do I rid this type of plant from them? I went to the dirt level, chopped it, and threw away toe dirt. They are super easy to propagate and you can literally just stick them directly into new soil and be fine. BUT, this pant is so full and large. How can I be sure I have gotten them all?

    • @WanderingWhittles
      @WanderingWhittles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, the best course of action is to spray the crap out of that plant and then use systemic insecticide. That's you best option without having to look in every nook and cranny. Hope this helps! Good luck!

    I dislike mealy bugs with a passion. I bought a syngonium that has mealy bugs. I have been working on killing them. I use alcohol to get rid of them. I go leaf by leaf and go back a few days later to get back in to get rid of the new ones. What I found isn't so horribly infested so using the alcohol method.

    I seen some mealy bugs on my plants yesterday. I was going to bring them inside so now I plan to treat them with alcohol and take them out of their pots. Then, I will put all the dirt in one big container and pour boiling hot water on the dirt to make sure I kill any mealy bugs. I have some manure and scrapes to add to it or I will make a worm bend out of it. On a budget and I don't want to throw my dirt away.

    • @WanderingWhittles
      @WanderingWhittles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. I use it indoors and my family uses it in their greenhouse at their garden center. It goes on every new houseplant order that comes in.

    How are you not afraid to have a plant infested with mealybugs close to your other plants in the background?? I heard they spread like wild fire. I currently have a Pothos (above fridge) and my first time dealing with mealybugs. I found some on my Sansevieria that is clear across the room. Based on everything I’ve read, I’m afraid to even take the Pothos to the bathroom to spray it, risking spreading the bugs throughout the house (I have approximately 15 plants).

    • @WanderingWhittles
      @WanderingWhittles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! I made this video the same day that I noticed the mealybugs, so I hadn't moved it into isolation yet. After the video and after I treated it, it was moved. Luckily, all of my other plants have been treated with the systemic insecticide that I showed in the video and I have been inspecting them daily. Unfortunately, these little guys can spread with a quickness. So far, this Arrowhead is the only plant that has been infested. Hoping that this trend continues. 🙏 If you are worried about moving them to spray them, cover the pothos with a plastic bag or trash bag and carry it to the bathroom that way. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Good luck!

      Wandering Whittles Thank you so much for the quick reply! I have never used any of the systemic insecticides only because I have a pet, although he tends to stay out of my plants. I keep them all off the ground, except for a very large snake plant. After dealing with mealybugs, I’m rethinking the whole “no chemicals” thing 😣😟.
