      technically democracy is about the will of the majority has the right to override the existing rights and have laws are made by the majority. And what your talking about is a mixed of republican, democrats and a bit of liberals views. So this agreement is very much irrelevant as everyone have mixed views of different political ideology if you dig deeper of what those things truly means you might understand why some are the way they are. It's not the leader or the government, its more of your will, your emotions, your lies, your deception, your ideals and all those human consciences are the very thing that makes it bad. Its not about what laws, leaders or governing system that we want, its more about a combined governing system like the roman empire used to have, a mixed of democrats, monarchists, aristocracy, socialist , communist, and all that you know

    Actually I think that Nas was actually being pretty vague.
    First of all in my opinion it's important to specify if you're speaking for a particular form of government (like the two you mentioned) or you're speaking about a supposed 'better' form of government, which probably doesn't exist yet. The advantage of democracy is that we've already implemented the system worldwide and we know the issues and drawbacks that it offers. This provides us with an opportunity to improve the idea of Democracy itself, thereby it being a form of self improving government. Also, different regions and countries around the world adopted democracy differently, according to their own needs. Therefore it is illogical to expect the same results from everywhere. Those supposed form of governments probably haven't been tested out yet, or have been tested on only small scales.
    Secondly, about the issues in contries like Bangladesh, there are way too many factors to contribute to the poor development than democracy. Do Bangladesh and Sweden have the same population? Do they share the same kind of past history? Do they have the same kind of relationships with their neighbouring countries? Are the religious ethnicity of the indigenous population the same? There are way too many variables being ignored by Nas. Again, there are many flaws in the arguments from both sides in my opinion, and the debate could've been better.
    Thirdly, what is the proof that the supposed 'smart' people who'll run the top positions in an ideal form of government, would not become arrogant because of their achievements and use the power for their personal gain? How can just smartness be a criteria for selecting people? Even if you were to conduct some examinations, how can we really ensure that some contestants wouldn't pass off by unfair means? What is the proof that the influencial would not use their power to directly fuse themselves with the government? How is this any better from democracy?
    In the end, Nas I would like to comment on your argument regarding Hitler. It was not democracy that made Hitler a dictator. It was the building of a poor constitution by the German( refer of Article 14 of German Constitution back then). It was the misuse of the Constitutional power that brought him power to disregard democracy and act as an independent power. This itself goes to show how delicate the entire framework of democracy is.
    Don't misunderstand me, I'm no way in favour of democracy. In fact I believe that a better system than democracy must exist out there. In fact, no system is perfect, we'll continue to find different systems with different advantages, and democracy is very flawed.
    However, I was unsatisfied with your side of argument Nas.

    • @dapizzasnake8462
      @dapizzasnake8462 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I wrote my own view on this argument as I believed that both sides could have done better, and I think our views align very closely.
      Its cool to see a person see this argument in a similar way, I also added maybe people need to be taught to not believe all they hear and make voting a more serious and slow process to deter people voting more or less for fun. So that people who really researched it can then feal the need to put in an informed opinion.

      For me it's not about the governance it's about the people who are in the government and in the country

    • @fakerboy7409
      @fakerboy7409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very nice critique, really goes to prove Nas' points of only the most intellectual people should decide who will run the government. But the Irony here is that those same people decide that democracy is better just because of it's loads of evidences. But in all seriousness, it should also be wise to equally consider the rational perspective of things. Theoretically, we very much find his arguments about Epistocracy and Technocracy good even if it's not backed with empirical evidences, like democracy. It's unwise to dismiss of doing something just because it doesn't exist yet. Hypothetically, if there's a world only ran by Totalitarianism, fascism, and dictatorship, why would we only base our world around these just because there's no evidences of democracy, and not take a step further? Same case here, if democracy really makes a country worse, the country should apply a new one, even if it's theoretical. That's my take anyway. On a side note, what government system in which you think is better than democracy? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

    • @yash1756
      @yash1756 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fakerboy7409 well I wouldn't say much but that those countries have adopted democracy because democracy might not have shown perfect results but it shown more results than any other form of government that the nation has gone through in the past. Also I do agree with your point that we should look forward to new things but they necessarily aren't always good or for the best. Democracy has established a way for everyone's voice being heard, and despite all the negatives, you cannot deny that it is an effective system of government.

    The debate was insane...! Me being an Indian with democratic government, I know the problems and benefits of Democracy.
    If a leader has started to build a national highway, but he gets replaced in the next election and the new leader doesn't show any interest in completing the highway project, it would be a disaster. But at the same time, if a leader makes bad decisions for the country we have a chance to change our leader after 5 years. We even can retain them if we like the way the leader worked and managed the country's affairs. Just vote for them and elect them again in the next election. There are many other ministers who take incharge of different responsibilities.
    Democracy is efficient only when the people don't go by their emotions, and think in the perspective of the country's welfare. Especially, as India is a diverse country with many religions, people try to make a person of their religion; or a person who supports their religion, the leader. Even if the system is corrupted, the democracy won't be efficient, as it happens in India.

      lemme tell u what happend in my country, there a was an elected government or a party or whatever u call it, and they baited the people by giving them wrong information through tv, radio and stuff, and then they ruled for about a whopping 20 years while the period was 4 years, in this moment there was still democracy but it wasn't really implied if u can already tell, So this is the thing, the uneducated portion of the country still doesn't know what was happening and what was about to happen, then they did so much damage to the country by economy weapons and just made the country vulnerable and the rest is history, and my point is democracy is a bit unstable cuz in some part of the world if u are the government you can do everything u want. So we need a new form of governance which is more stable and ruled by the smartest people possible...

      The problem is that representative democracy gives too much power and influence to the politician instead of giving it to the people.
