India has never been two party system like US. So the way he is mentioning all opposition to act as one cohort to drive the ruling party out, is not a the democratic system India follows or will ever succeed in following. Simply because each of those parties has a different ideology, aspirations, motivations. May be with difficulty they can come together for election, but they can never run a cohesive government for 5 years. And that will be a disaster for India. Indians who have grown up in late 90s and 2000s have seen this first hand and know this very well and that is why even if some voters don't vote for BJP in state elections, they vote for BJP in general elections.
True that the opposition when combined may lose efficiency, but that also brings in compromises in legislative and other matters thus giving representation for all communities. Giving a brute majority to any party is a recipe for disaster.
