My neighbor had an old Mini-14, had a zillion rounds through it, and the firing pin tip started to crumble. He called Ruger and tried to order a new firing pin, but Ruger said no, firing pins are factory fit items. They wanted him to ship the rifle, and they'd fit the new firing pin and re-imburse him for the shipping cost. Took just under 3 weeks, and his rifle was returned.

I was always on the hunt for a Mini-30 when they first came out back in the mid-80's and then life (wife, mortgage, kid ect) got in the way and never got one.
During the pandemic, I came across a Mini-14 (2012 vintage) for $750, since I had some store credit, I picked it up. The previous owner took great care of it, and when I went to shoot it, I found out why it looked so good. The damned thing was shooting so far to the left that I couldnt adjust it. I contacted Ruger, they sent me a RMA & shipping label. Seems the origial owner NEVER did the warranty thing whenever they first obtained the rifle, so Ruger fixed the damned thing for FREE and even gave me a free NEW 20 round mag.
My 65 year old eyes can see a coyote @ 100 yards no problem, and so can that rifle!
My kid will get this when I'm done/gone!

I trained in the Army with the M-14 and loved it. It was rugged, easy to disassemble and clean (a LOT easier than the M-16, none of those tiny pieces to deal with). When Ruger came out with the Mini 14 I was thrilled. I still think the Mini 14 would have been a better combat weapon as a 5.56 mm carbine. And imagine stainless steel in the jungle! Like the M-1 carbine this weapon will not go away for many years.

I got Mom a stainless Ruger Ranch Rifle topped with a matching stainless Simmons scope a while back. Believe it is late '80's or early 90's vintage. She gets tickled when she rings steel plates at 300 yards at the public range, off the bench. Mom just turned 80, this year.
My biggest problem with the Mini 14 series is not like everyone else's - lack of accuracy. My biggest gripe is lack of reliable aftermarket mags. John Masen mags were good ones, and I didn't discover them until they went out of business, but Tapco made some reliable 30 round polymer mags. I got some on a liquidation sale, but I'd buy more if I came across them again.
Little brother had a beautiful Mini 14 - it had a blond wood stock. Never seen one like it before or since. Too bad it disappeared along with half his gun collection after he died. I think his brother-in-law took them all. He had some very nice firearms, too. He wanted me to hold them for his boys until they turned 18. The ones that did come my way were not his nicest ones.

My 90s vintage Ranch Rifle has no issue maintaining 2 inch groups with junk ammo, and 1.25 with premium hunting rounds. Gun exhibits virtually no point of impact change at 100 meters when hot.

I love the mini 14 ranch rifle and I'd like to respectively add that one thing he didn't add was the heavy duty ( bullet proof ) action, I think it was modeled after the legendary M 1 action, but I love the sound when you rack a round into the chamber.

He's right about the accuracy but it really isn't that bad. However, I can't remember any incident of malfunction with either of them. Extremely reliable old school design. And lots of fun.

I picked up a Mini 14 GB about 40 years ago for an older brother. It required a B Square mount, which fit pretty well to perfect by adding one tiny brass shim. A buddy and I had been working on bench rest loads for his 223 Heavy Barrel varmit gun, and switching those into that rifle, it put out unbelievable groups. My older brother is in a rest home now, and I got that rifle passed to me. I put three honest shots under the size of a dime at 100 yards last week, using the remaining Match ammo that came with it. Due to the stock design the rear stock face wants to slide about. Isolated that out of the shooting equation, and you will be shocked at how well Mini 14's shoot, given everything is thing, level, etc.

Always enjoy your videos. Escaped the SFO Bay area 25 years ago. Moved to your neck of the woods, I would assume Vegas, for 4 years. Then headed up to Reno for the last 21. Gotta love Nevada and our freedoms here. Northern Nevada and Southern Nevada both very beautiful places! With some wide open land for shooting! I own several Mini 14's including some folding stock models. A former prison gun, LEO patrol gun. And a Mini 30. They will never replace an AR style rifle or some of the other modern semi autos. But, they are a great, classic, reliable rifle! And I love all of the Mini 14's/30 in my collection. Is it my go to war rifle? In most circumstances no. Would I go to war with it if the Mini 14 was all I had? Absolutely! Just a very lovable classic gun! That shoots well. Reliably. Neither the old nor the new are sniper rifles. And they were never meant to be. But, certainly improvements on the new models have made them even better! Thanks for sharing. A classic rifle we all love!

When I was young and couldn't afford a Mini 14 I lusted heavily after them. I never bought one as other rifles passed the 14 in performance and availability.
My dad bought a Mini 30 and I didn't know about it but I passed up the chance to bring it home after he passed away, as I'm in California and didn't want the hassle of the transfer,. Plus, the mini 30's have some issues, from what I hear. If it had been a Mini 14 I'd have gone through the transfer headache.

Mini 14 is one of my favorite rifles, and my Mini videos are some of the most watched I have. They are so much fun, have a historic background, and were infamous from the Miami Dade shootout, and of course famous from the A-Team! Mine is a 580 series "Ranch" I think with blued finish and wood stock, my rear sight keeps loosening up. I had a butler creek folding stock on it for a while, but I hated shooting with it so I sold the stock. I'd buy a mini 30 if they weren't stupid expensive. I want to get Williams sights for mine. These thigs absolutely need the Ruger mags though. Any others I have tried have not worked.

Interesting, I had the same exact one and it shot 1” groups at a 100 yards with cheap Russian steel cased tullammo .223 and that’s off the bench with the stock peep sights. I was so impressed that it was the only rifle that I left the iron sights on. I haven’t shot a new style mini 14 but I shot my buddies scoped mini 30 at 50 yards and it had 2-3” groups with decent quality ammo and after the 5th shot the groups started to wander to the left significantly. Once the barrel cooled I shot it again and it went back to center to prove it was a hot barrel and not the scope causing them to wander.
