    AWESOME REVIEW!!!! I've owned a 2014 Si sedan now for 4 months now with 6500 miles of driving enjoyment. Your review is very accurate in my time of ownership. I read thru comments on the fuel recommendations and here is what I have to say. I've filled up nearly every tank with quality mid grade gasoline from BP, Shell etc and have always averaged 32-35mpg and usually 65% of that is highway driving at 65-70mph. The Si is a great buy IMO for anyone wanting something sporty and fun to drive. thanks for sharing your review.

    I like your review style. And I was pleasantly surprised that you mentioned the location of the traction control off button to be a mature touch.
    It looks like you have plenty of headroom in the front of the car. May I ask how tall you are?

    Excellent review! First video I've seen of yours. I own a 08'SI and in the market for a new car. I test drove this one as well. Everything you discussed was accurate. Mine also had the same feel suspension but Honda Factory Performance Suspension upgrade was well worth the money(i paid $450 new installed myself). Same with the HFP axleback exhaust it sounds a lot better than stock. I think im going to get a MustangGT instead. I preferred the older 2.0L over the 2.4L. It just felt a lot more fun to drive and that sound...can't beat it! Keep up the good work I subscribed and if you could do a Mustang review that would be awesome lol.

    Personally i have owned a 2009 civic si coupe (fg2) and currently a 2012 civic si sedan (fb6). I dont understand all the hate, love them both. the k20 is fun to drive at WOT, its geared alot lower and youll be running 4k rpms cruising on the freeway. The k24 is a torque monster in comparison, no matter what gear your in- step on the gas and it'll move. Its geared alot higher and youll be cruising closer to 3k rpms on the freeway. its a much smoother powerband. Handling? 8th gen wins as the springs are much stiffer, 9th gen wins ride quality. Interior? I think the 9th wins in terms of materials and quality. The suede was hard to keep clean in the 8th. My 9th is lacking a thermostat reading along with the shift light as my 8th had. Radio? Its the same except for bluetooth. The newer 9th gens with the camera setups are a little different. They do about the same on gas, not that i pay much attention. Thats bout the biggest differences i noticed over the two. With lowering springs my 9th handles fantastic and is a blast to drive. Its super comforatable on the road and feels "planted" at higher speeds while my chevy cruze felt like a kite drifting all over the road.

    Thank you for the review, am thinking this is the car I want. I will say though by numbers it is not the fastest but I am planning on a few bolt-ons that will make it fast and more fun to drive but not hurt the longevity of the Si. Again thank you for the review :)

      ***** I will do that :) I owned a 94 Si for awhile and as a mechanic I have driven my share of cars, from smart cars and yaris's up to M5's, Vett's and Porsche's. I have driven every si after my old hatch (r.i.p.) and I enjoy the feel of the Si's and the look of them as well, and even though I do not have a family or anything I feel like the sedan will be the best long term investment.
      Again thank you for the review :)

      We would assume that it should, krishna bohora, since the next major change for the Civic did not occur until 2016. Fun car, but the price tag is so close to the ford focus st and the speed3, which gets you more power more torque with turbo charged engines and more trunk space for being a hatchback.. I guess only reason you would buy this is either if you hate hatchbacks or planning to slap a turbo charger on Si.. idk

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the great part about the automotive industry today, Snoopyjh. There is literally something for everyone. While we agree that the Focus ST and Speed3 are aggressively fun, the more mature styling of the Si definitely appeals to many buyers. Thanks for watching!

      CalculyticCuber The 2014 Si actually makes slightly more horsepower (albeit with significantly less torque) than the C250, but the Si also has over 400 less pounds to push around than the C250. It's amazing what 4-cylinders can do these days. Thanks for watching!

    I'm sorry but the engine is not the same as what was n the previous generation Si the previous generation Si had a 2.0L inline 4 THIS generation (2012-2015) has a 2.4L inline 4 I think you meant to say the the previous YEAR civic has the same engine. which in that case yes it does, with a modified exhaust for better flow which gives the extra 4 Torque and 4 Horsepower.

    No offense but the Si hasn't been on top for over a decade....the GTi was always quicker than the Si, also the MS3 has been on top since 2007...quicker and better than both the Si and GTi...although it is in transition at the moment. Also Cobalt SS smoked the Si during it's run.....Si has been a back field player for well over a decade...a day late and a dollar short (too little hp).

      It depends on what you want out of the car...the honda is more reliable than anything in the category, and its also the only naturally aspirated one. The shifter in the si shifts smoother than any of those other cars, the interior is also up there compared to the rest. It's also cheaper than the rest making it a pretty good value.

      buildmorefarms100 Thats the starting price for a gti, it comes with nothing. you get a fully loaded si for less, and its more reliable. Performance wise the gti is better, it just depends on what you want/need the car for

    • @jackcarlisle9380
      @jackcarlisle9380 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** The Si is not competitive. If you base being on top just based on sales, then you could say the Camry is on top. I can tell you it is not. It's dull, hideous, sloppily thought-out, and lacks character. All of those things don't have any bearing on US customers however, so it continues to be a top seller nationwide. When there are much better alternatives such as the Passat and Mazda6, you really have to wonder why American's continue to be sucked into the black hole that is Toyota. Back to the Si... this model is dull, ugly, slow, and doesn't offer the quality, options, or fit and finish that it's VW rival has. This would make a great base Civic, but it doesn't deserve the Si badge.

      ***** Well, this is my second Honda. My car ownership history includes the Mazda RX-8, MazdaSpeed 6 (yes 6, not the 3), Honda S2000 and now the Civic Si. Frankly, out of all the cars on my list, the Civic Si is the least fun (though not boring), but it is also the most reliable and practical. In comparison to the Speed6, which had problem after problem related to the turbocharger and intercooling, the Civic Si has proven to be stoicly reliable, without a single peep or indication of an upcoming problem.
      It's grown up. I've driven the old 2.0L Civic Si, and those were certainly much more urgent in nature. It was furious. This Civic is calmer, more relaxed, and can be driven like a regular economy sedan if you want to. As long as the i-VTEC stays off, and your revs are kept sub-3000rpm, it feels no different from the regular Civic. Put your foot down though, and it screams and rockets to illegal speeds really quickly.
      I have a family now, which is why I chose the Civic Si sedan. I can't think of another car in its class that's as practical without sacrificing too much fun.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Hoo We agree with you. The current Si makes a good car for those of us who are a little more "mature" or at least need to act that way. Your previous car history is definitely applaud-able, and certainly explains your perceived relative lack of fun. But besides the 'Speed6, none of your previous cars could truly fit a family. A big sign of maturity is understanding that give-and-take scenario. Many of us continue to toil with that. Good luck with your Si and thanks for watching!

    AutoAcademics needs to do some academic research before making any more videos. This does NOT have the same engine as the previous generation Si. Instead, this is a 2.4L vs 2.0L engine. It also only makes a few more hp but a bit more torque. The interior is uglier than before, the suspension softer, and the exterior -- well it's just awful. The hideous plastic shift knob needs to be thrown in the trash and forgotten about. When every other car in it's category has been turbocharged for the better part of almost a decade now, Honda really needs to get with the program. They wonder why sales are so dismal? The last gen was a great car. While it lacked torque, it made up for it in it's engine's character. The K20z3 loved to be revved. You could say the same about this new engine, but it cannot even compare with the K20. The K20 could turn 8300RPM out of the factory, and it could do so all day long. With flash pro you could easily get this engine to turn 8500-9000RPM and still be safe. The "new" K24 is so dull in comparison. It's appx 7000RPM redline is just pathetic by Honda standards. At least if they didn't want to go turbo, they could've left the high-end vtec kick over and redline. The only thing that is performance oriented about this Si is the LSD, but the last gen had one too. I really am hoping Honda gets it together with the next gen Si...if we even get one in the North American market. They have got to go turbo with the next model, and the new Civic Type-R's 2.0T would be a great place to start. The funky spaceship design needs to be dropped in place of a more handsome and traditional look. I wouldn't mind a hatch honestly. They need to benchmark the MkVII GTI for comfort, polish, and performance. The only thing they need to save from this generation is the Honda reliability and the real LSD.

      dark chocolate Apparently, Honda had tightened the purse strings when the 2012 Honda Civic was being designed, following the automotive downturn during the economic recession. Unfortunately, by the time the car hit the market, things were looking better in the industry and the cost savings showed, with buyers expressing their dissatisfaction online and on the showroom floors.This is what caused Honda to make such drastic changes after the all-new model had only been on the market for a year.
      Our comment stating who had built the car had nothing to do with the previous year's cheaper interior design, as that car was still a reliable, good driving car. It just wasn't as appealing to some buyers. So our closing remark was just a general statement about the brand and products it makes. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Just my taste, the previous gen was better. This one is a bit too quiet and looks a bit feminine.
