Exit pupil is figured by the F ratio of the scope it is used in.
So if your F ratio is a F/9 then you get a
    1 mm exit pupil.

I have several of the Delites. I think Televue hits all the hot spots with this line of oculars. 👍 They are also priced just right for Televues.

Eyepiece in mm divided into Scope F ratio
give exit pupil of any eyepiece and scope
9mm eyepiece divided into a F/10 ratio scope gives .9mm exit pupil.
1 mm exit pupil is considered optimum for planetary viewing. As always only if seeing conditions allows.

Thank you for you comment Kelly. In the video I mention a 1mm exit pupil. In my F/10, the exit pupil is actually 0.9mm as you indicated. It really is great at viewing planets, which is why I selected it. Televue eyepieces are known for also being great in faster scopes, perhaps down to F/5 or F/4. So they will work in fast Newtonians as well.

I'm curious, you said it took you a year to decide on the 9mm size, but you didn't explain why you settled on that size? Why did you pick 9mm?

I chose 9mm based upon a view of Mars I got through someone else's 10mm TeleVue Radian several years ago during one of Mars' oppositions. I was stunned - Mars has always been disappointing (even at opposition), but the view through that 10mm Radian in my 8-inch f/10 LX90 SCT was incredible. I never forgot that view. When I could finally justify adding another TeleVue eyepiece to my "collection" (3 other Televue eyepieces LOL), I looked for the 10mm Radian. TeleVue had stopped making them by that time. A thorough look at their current eyepiece lines revealed that the DeLite series have 20mm eye relief and a 62 degree APOV, very similar to the Radians. There is no 10mm DeLite, so I chose the 9mm. Great question, thanks for asking!

So what is so good about a televue eyepiece? Or is it just hype?

Televue quality is impeccable and they stand behind their products. You will not be disappointed with the DeLite series. They are costly but there are competing brands that are priced about the same. You can attend a local star party and give them a try.

Why would you not use it during the winter. Get you a heater and some gloves and get out there

I used to observe in cold weather more than I do now, unfortunately. I do miss the winter sky. On milder winter night I will give it a go.
