I remember Emanuel Ax from my younger days. And now I can see and hear he still is a wonderful Mozart interpreter. Thank you, master. About the fifth Mahler this is phenomenal music, and the adagietto starts at 1:20:20 and so far I find it the most wonderful adagietto. Also thanks to all wonderful sound technicians for bringing this sound to us!
For those of you who have seen the film Death in Venice from 1971, directed by Luchino Visconti, after a novel by Thomas Mann, this is familiar music. But the strange thing is that this music, the Adagietto, never looses its shimmer.
There has evidently been a lot of work gone into the presentation of this marvellous concert. Congratulations to Alan Gilbert and the NDR for finding the beauty of this Mahler 5 with all its complexities. And a flawless performance of Mozart by Emanuel Ax. Just wonderful. I only wish I could have been in the audience to cheer 'Bravo' but the video presentation is absolutely amazing. Many thanks to all 🎉👏✨️
I have to admit, Emanual Ax has a sense of style when comes to the piano concertos of Wolfgang Mozart. The Adagietto of Symphony No.5 of Gustav Mahler has a sense of the unknown; it's like someone is in the middle of nowhere.
Interesting how different conductors like different floor arrangements of the instruments! Cellos in the center for this group, with the first and second violins on opposite sides. Excellent concert!
A splendid concert. Emanuel Ax played the Mozart PC 25 beautifully, adeptly accompanied by Gilbert and the orchestra. The Mahler 5 is well articulated and very well recorded, with details of each section of the ensemble heard clearly. The videography is also done nicely, featuring close shots of the musicians at appropriate times. Thanks very much for sharing these performances.

Leider eine der langweiligsten Konzert-Mitschnitte von Mahlers Fünfter bei YT. Alle Tempi verschleppt, keine Kontraste, das Finale kommt überhaupt nicht in Fahrt - wo ist der Zug nach Vorne, die Unausweichlichkeit, der Choralhöhepunkt? Das Potenzial des Orchesters ist enorm - aber Gilbert hatte keinen guten Abend.

Das Klavierkonzert war wunderbar, besonders das Zusammenspiel Orchester mit E. Ax. Hervorragend war auch die Flötistin Yeojin Han 🌹🌹🌹
