    Hey Folks, just a heads up. I got an Email for Kurt at Grimburg stating what I mentioned in the video. The 3.5G rounds are FAR to light for the Gavle. We knew this and I mention it several times in the video. That being said, this entire test was unrealistic as these were never designed for that distance. The JUL rounds are 8G and a follow up test is coming. That being said, there is a video dropping tonight that illustrates the results of taking shots at that distance. Stay tuned!

    Just bought an HDP 50 and watched a lot of your videos to research beforehand. Just want to say I appreciate your content...I'd love to hear your opinion on how more budget-conscious options like the HDP and even sabre compare to these more premium self defense tools.

    • @Joreel
      @Joreel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The HDP 50 is a great launcher. I have a LTL Bravo which is also a 50 cal launcher. The common saying is you get what you pay for, but with less lethal it isn't always the case. The Byrna Hi Vuz I have was $500 when I bought it in November 2022 and it's a great launcher, but you can buy a Salt Supply S2 for $250 and it's more powerful out of the box than the Byrna. Plus the S2 can be modified to even higher Joules whereas the Byrna can be modified at all. The Grimburg Gavle is still the King of power out of the box, but you'll pay out the nose for it.
      Honestly it really depends on what you want and what you can afford. The Umarex line as well as the Salt Supply are probably the best low cost launcher overall because you can modify them for more power pretty easily and it's not that expensive for the upgrade kits. The biggest barrier is if you have the confidence to do it yourself with the help of a good TH-cam video.

    • @AlternateArmsSD
      @AlternateArmsSD  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The HDP50 is one of my all-time favorites. Its affordable, upgradable, and dependable. I am going to do more head-to-head tests with the more budget friendly launchers in the near future.

    another great video Jon. but, 1, I really wish you would turn the TRP all the way up and crono it. 2, how about crono the rounds just before impact ( if you can) so we can see the power at that distance. 3, I own 3 Byrnas ( I just had to put that in there, and I don't think I own enough of them) . 4, it would be nice to see what the .43s ( PPQ ) with your uprated mags would do and also how fast the send the balls downrange. and you are right, someone downrange acting as your target would have been hit many times with each. and probably would not have been too happy and needed alot of ice packs. also you should test out that .43 AR-15 type rifle you had. ( I want one of them). well , look forward to seeing your next video.

    Interesting test. from that distance the bad guy may not be able to tell if you are holding a launcher or a firearm, unless it colored in safety orange or yellow. For accuracy of the launcher I think you should use a testing stand so each shot is consistent. also the time between each shot should be the same. I know you like to shoot Skully but I thing individual card board targets for each launcher would show a better picture over all even though the Gavel and S2 shot high due to the ammo. Keep up the Great work on testing and informing us. Can't wait for the next video.

    • @AlternateArmsSD
      @AlternateArmsSD  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks man! Yeah, I avoid testing stands because you won’t have one when you need it in the field. I’m a great shot but the rounds were a bit light for these launchers. I need to show the build on skully. There are 10 variations depending on the power of the launcher I am firing at him.

    • @AlternateArmsSD
      @AlternateArmsSD  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey brother, thank you! Yeah, I figure we’re safe on the laws until they reclassify black powder weapons, and then eventually get down to us. However, I don’t think that will happen until some moron actually kills somebody with less than lethal so let’s hope that never happens. That’s a big part of the reason that you will never see me modify these over a certain point, as creating a lethal weapon out of a non-lethal weapon is never my intention.

  • @Joreel
    @Joreel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I've never tried to hit a target at 60 feet because I know I'd miss 90% of the shots. I have done 30 feet and I can hit about half my shots dead center with my Byrna and LTL Bravo. I know they say effective up to 60 feet, but it's unlikely 95% of people could hit a target effectively at that range.
    Just out of curiosity, do you use any kind of ear protection when firing these things? I see you with the safety glasses, but I don't see any ear protection.
    I was testing my 40+ Joule HDX this past weekend when it was 108° out and the first 8 rounds went through 2 inches of rawhide leather like it was butter. I was using 3.8 gram rounds at 23 feet and honestly thought a 2 inch thick drop-down would be enough to stop the rounds since rawhide is a tough material.

      @AlternateArmsSD  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey man! Yeah, this test was WAY out of the normal range for these.. BUT.. it was a question folks had so I threw it out there ;) Still, using pepper rounds, they would have been effective shots. I dont have any hearing protection but the room im in is much larger than it looks in the shots.
