Theyre also very destructive. In what I thought was a "bunny-proof" room, my rabbit was able to get at $100 of wiring in the first week. So either spend a bunch of money bunny proofing, or spend a bunch of money replacing your things. Or in my case, both.
I would highly recommend getting rabbits from humane societies/ rescues. Not only can you save a bunny from death ( at kill shelters) and give a abused/ neglected bunny another chance, but at most shelters rabbits are 20-50$ and they are usually spayed, given shots, any needed medical treatment, and my bunny even got a microchip.
Awesome video Erin! It's great to see another person doing videos on the importance of rabbit welfare! :) I loved your one point 'two rabbits are adorable' hahaha. Soooooo true! Also enjoyed seeing the adorable footage of all of your family's adorable bun buns! And oh my goodness thank you for listing our website!
There was a house in my town that was giving away rabbits for free,a few kids from my school decided to get one,one student got one without parent permission and dumped it in her neighbors yard, and the other student is just feeding their bunny carrots I tried to inform them about what they actually needed to feed it but they wouldn't listen.I feel bad for these poor helpless Rabbits what should I do?
My mom decided to go out and get a rabbit for my daughters 11th birthday! He's extremely cute and everything but I literally know nothing about rabbits! Luckily my sister told me(it was supposed to be a surprise for both of us)so I was able to do research on them! I even tried to talk them out of it explaining the "pets as gifts" situations but they never listened! Luckily the rabbit is perfectly fine! Still runs away after going on 2 months of him being here but healthy! Just wanna make sure we give him a good life! Always had cats all my life so a bunny now is so different! Thanks for your videos!
+My Animal World oh okay that's cool we recently found a lost rabbit sleeping in our yard it so cute but I can't wait to find its owners it's great your letting others know how to care for them properly. :)
I've had the same bunny since I was 10. I am now almost 20 and live on my own. :) it can be done, just takes love and dedication. If for some reason you can't afford a vet bill, have a yard sell! Mow yards!
Already have rabbits myself but was intrigued to watch anyway, Have to say its a great starting point for anyone considering adopting a rabbit, very informative, wish there were more responsible owners like you out there
I really really do like bunnys. I was even planning to get one (with a nice dog that gets along with other animals) when i grow up. They r just so cute!
I would like to add, in shelters you can find bunnies ranging many ages so if you are wanting to own a rabbit for a shorter amount of time you can always by older rabbits
It's awesome you put this out there! It really upsets me when people get rabbits for their young kids for Easter, bunnies aren't for everyone and people need to research their needs first.
Budgies are great pets I have two of them they are easy to care for and very fun to play with! when looking for a budgie mostly look for a baby so you can possibly train it. I have adult and baby so my elder one is teaching half of what I am training him:)
Nyrhonda Patterson it's not (to me) exotic and strange pets are the best. Especially when people come around and you say 'want to see my axolotl?' 🤣🤣 their faces😂😂
I want a rabbit i will keep him for the whole 10 years and i will spay and neuter her i will got her a best friend i will have a huge cage for them. They will live indoors and i will let them out for 6 hours a day. They will have a heathy diet. I would pick them up in less it is importing. I did all my research. I will not let my dog get to them. I will know when it is time for the vet. I got the needs and wants. Because you other rabbit died. So my mom said i can get another rabbit. He died healthy so it was not my fault.
Amazing video I'm in love with all the featured buns haha especially not so little jack ;D Great advice and tips for new bunny owners, I'm sure this will help so many buns x
Thanks for yet another helpful video, Erin! I've always wanted a rabbit asides from hamsters and I've convinced my parents to get me one someday. They said they'll give me a lionhead rabbit once we've saved enough money because like you've mentioned, they aren't cheap pets! :D
I had a rabbit named Dipsie he was very tame and sometimes was rolling in the sand he stalked me he peed on me and the pet store said that its a sign of he is giving you a smell so other animals know he is youre pet or soemthing but yeah he licked me too and evry morning my mom braught him inside and he walked up the stairs and waked me up by peeing on me😑 but sadly a fucking dog from somewhere bit him and that man never came back for a sorry or whatever. And he said to my mom that he was just playing with the rabbit (my rabbit escaped from my back yard) so sad im still crying about him😭😭
My mum wants a rabbit of her own since I moved with mine (I think she's feeling a little bit of empty nest syndrome) and I keep insisting that if she does want a rabbit to get two and chuck out the old hutch as its too small. Recently I also managed to successfully pair bond a 4 year old rabbit and one who was 4 months (the shelter had irritatingly listed her as a year old but by the time I realised I'd already fallen in love with her). They make for a hilarious couple because she has really grown much larger than her companion but he's still boss because he's older. xxx
We got our rabbit, precious, six years ago. She's spayed, has her own room, and gets free time daily. We only have one rabbit, but thinking of getting another. She's six though, and we wanted to get a younger rabbit. What do you think?
There was a rabbit that was abandoned at my grandfather's house and he always came to the house and one time he sneaked himself in and we fed him properly, but for some reason when were put him in the pen outside he somehow escaped ran away, and found him in a rodent trap.
I have a dwarf bunny and he has the whole house to himself and every day he gets two salads some like kinda buiscut things pellets and hay ( and of course water ) and I live him soooo much Your bunny is soooooo cute to🐰🐰🐰🐰❤️
I would get two rabbits but my rabbit i own now has really bonded with my dog, they sometimes lay next to eachother when my rabbits in the house and its so cutee
My rabbit dosen't freak out when i pick it up from above, he dosen't eat any hay. Only dry food. He is over 5 years old and as healthy as he was when we got him. He isn't neutered or anything.
Well it's a shame it's taking this long but at least now you know that some of the things you are doing aren't right and you can take measures to correct the mistakes. Hopefully his diet has caused too much damage though I suggest having a vet to a full check up just to make sure. Ensure that from now on his diet is 80% hay/grass, 10% vegetables, 5% healthy treats and only 5% pellets. Try and book him in for a neuter as soon as possible, some vets are reluctant to operate on middle aged rabbits so you may have to try a few different places. I also suggest joining a rabbit forum to make sure you are up to date on your information. Try not to feel guilty about the mistakes you have made, remember that making mistakes doesn't make you a bad owner anyone can make mistakes, the difference is that a good owner will correct their mistakes once they realise them :)
As someone who is a dog owner, is it safe or even possible to viably have a rabbit without completely separating the two entirely? I’d like to have them be able to interact occasionally (not necessarily without supervision). I figure I would introduce them slowly of course, but I don’t know how it’d go.
I love rabbits! I had a Black Netherlands Dwarf Rabbit named Fluffy, she was purchased back in 2003. She sadly passed away Sept 2013 at 11... Then we got Remmie in 2005 when he was already 5 when we got him, he passed July 2013 at 13
I go to school from 7:40 to 3:00. My grandmother is going to be here for a couple months a year so she would be able to take care of the rabbit. When she's not here my father would be able to care for it. But I cannot get 2. Does it absolutely need a companion?
My dogs have never hurt anything, But if I ever do get a rabbit, I'll make a safe area for it,but I'll give it some time every day too see if my dogs are ok with it so if it gets out, I won't worry that much.
I’ve been unlucky with getting a pet. (I’m 12) the funny part, the only pet my mom is considering, is a bunny because she is subtle to their cuteness. Lol, I feel the same! Fingers crossed, I might be saving a bunny this Easter!
Great video hun =) You covered all the important parts of rabbit ownership =) With my 5 I think I can have the title Crazy Bunneh Lady! Tehe. Couldn't be without my bunnies! x
we introduced my rabbit to my boyfriends cat the same way that people bond rabbits. It went perfectly and we actually leave them completely alone quite a bit. The process took about 3 months but now they usually just ignore each other and sometimes the rabbit actually chases the cat. He has a 2 level 48 in. leith petwerks cage in the living room but is almost never shut into it.
I really liked this video. I have a rabbit. He does live alone but he is used to being alone and has a big cage. I love your videos soooooooo much and all your animals:-)
I want a rabbit, and my only real option is to buy from a pet shop. Obviously if I were to get 2 babies from a pet shop they would not be spayed or neutered so how would I prevent them from mating until they can be done?
Hi Erin, please read :) I have a Robo hammy called Benji, I noticed today he keeps grooming and itching himself a lot more than normal and he has lost some hair on the top of his head. Not sure whether he's just grooming a bit more than normal or if he has a problem. In the mean time before taking him to the vets, is there anything that can help relieve his itchyness? Thanks!
If you're able to provide them with everything they need and to make a serious, lifelong commitment to their care then you can get a rabbit at any time you want. That being said if you're adopting then the best time to look in shelters is near the end of spring as that's when shelters are typically full of abandoned rabbits.
Oh how much i want a bunny! Ive had one before and they were wonderful! I would spend every minuit with her. Maybe this year my parents eill let me adopt a pair...
Once I'm financially stable I plan on getting a rabbit. I will be living with my parents until I graduate and then some. If my parents don't want me to get one then I won't. I will just wait till after college and when I am truly financially stable
An animal dying young isn't always a sign of neglect. Sometimes animals do die long before their time and there is nothing we can do about it. If there was nothing obviously wrong with the rabbits living conditions or care then there is no reason to suspect that a mistake was made

ErinsAnimals He had a cage but it was always open so he always was just jumping freely in the house. I guess he just died young.
Rabbits can die quite abruptly when compared to other pets and it is often hard to tell when they are sick. There is a disease called gastrointestinal stasis that may be the cause. Rabbits need to eat constantly to keep their GI tract moving or it will slow down and stop. At this point I don't think it can start up again and the rabbit will die in about 24 hours (I believe from multiple organ failure). You need to know if your rabbit is eating and pooping everyday. If not, it is in danger of going into stasis and you need to watch it closely and begin home treatment (should have on hand in case) and see a vet to force feed the rabbit and put it on some drugs to increase its chances. Stasis can be caused by bloating, gas, stress, diseases or other things that make it uncomfortable for the rabbit to eat. Once it stops eating for whatever reason, it is in danger of stopping its GI movement. It is not uncommon. They can also die easily from heart attacks if they are given a bad emotional shock. Sorry to hear about Nibs :(
I used to have 2 hamsters then not to long ago one passed. I still have 1 but wanted to get a rabbit. I have had outdoor rabbits before I did not take very good care of them and they did not live very long.
Rabbits should never be let out. I called my local rabbit vet and asked "can I let my rabbit out in my garden" and she replied with a straight answer "no". There are multiple cases of rabbits getttin ticks growing under their skin. I saw a video on my vets Instagram account of a rabbit having to be euthanized because of all the bugs (forgot the name) infested and eating it's organs. They can get severe damages and even die. Please talk to your vet before letting them out. Best option, don't let them out!
It's perfectly possible to let rabbits outside safely and responsibly, though it won't be an option for everyone. You should join a rabbit forum if you want to learn how and also just to help you learn more about rabbit care in general as well as enjoy other people's rabbit journeys :)
Ok thank you for the video Erin I was wanting to get a rabbit but I guess now is not the time I don’t have the time, safe, or money but in the future hopefully!
I know many rabbit breeders that refuse to sell during the easter season except to people they know who currently have rabbits like other breeders. I did sell rabbits during the easter season 1 year and have regrets about it still. I know longer breed but miss it a lot. Rabbit breeders are some of the best people out there. There is no money in rabbits. The people who raise them do it for the love of the animals and to improve the breeds they show. Any rabbits I get from now on will be rescues but I am at that time in my life about to graduate college that I can not take on the responsibility of any more animals.
I was so excited to buy a baby bunny, but I don’t think I will ever do that again.. The neutering was so expensive! I will only be buying rescue rabbits from now on because they are already fixed and are in need of a home ❤️ I love my bunnies to death, they are wonderful pets.
What is a rabbit trying to say if they start licking you. My rabbit licked me, i researched it but i just wanted to make sure it was the correct answer. Thank you!

Is a bunny a good pet for me? I have a lot of experience with many kinds of animal (2 guinea pigs, 5 hamsters, a ferret, 8 dogs and a cat.) and I'm 13 years old. Currently I have 4 dogs and a hamster, but I would have room for an outdoor rabbit in the summer and indoor rabbit in the winter. Though we are planning on getting a kitten, is that a problem? :/
+Julia Wright When people move to other countries or to homes that don't accept animals there is often no choice but to rehome the animal, however it should of course be done properly and sadly too many people take the "easy" route of abandoning their rabbit in the old home or letting it loose outside.
BunnyCare502 The majority of rabbits do hate it though as its not normal for them and it's something that would only usually happen when a bird catches them. Your rabbit is in a very small minority group which is why you won't hear people say that rabbits like to be picked up as most of the time they don't :)
erin im considering getting a rabbit. in a years time i will move into a quite big room and if i had a rabbit it would be a house rabbit but i just want to know how messy house rabbits are as i will be the one doing the cleaning :)
+Oliver Clark (wtfudge99) It depends on the individual rabbit, some are messier than others. In general though you will spend anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes a day cleaning up after them especially when they are young and not litter trained.
Oh no I already adopted my rabbit then I asked my landlord we live in an apartment she said no But we already bonded what should I do she is a clean non destructive bunny and very calm???!!!
i have a cat that likes to hunt, is there a way i could have a rabbit and keep them separate or do you think it could be too risky? Thank you i really want one
Where I live, we have hot summers which usually come with a heat advisory and winters that usually don't have a ton of snow, but are Really. Freaking. Cold. And I wish I knew the picking up thing earlier.
Theyre also very destructive. In what I thought was a "bunny-proof" room, my rabbit was able to get at $100 of wiring in the first week. So either spend a bunch of money bunny proofing, or spend a bunch of money replacing your things.
Or in my case, both.
Should of thought about that before
I would highly recommend getting rabbits from humane societies/ rescues. Not only can you save a bunny from death ( at kill shelters) and give a abused/ neglected bunny another chance, but at most shelters rabbits are 20-50$ and they are usually spayed, given shots, any needed medical treatment, and my bunny even got a microchip.
At the human society I go to the rabbits are 15 dollars and the are spayed and they have shots and everything.
The humane society where I live it cost $80 for non bonded, spayed/neutered and for a bonded spayed/neutered cost $125
Such a clear video, hopefully it will save a bunny this Easter!! :')
RabbitCare4Eva I want one for Easter but I already have a dog and a horse. And horses are very expensive
Awesome video Erin! It's great to see another person doing videos on the importance of rabbit welfare! :) I loved your one point 'two rabbits are adorable' hahaha. Soooooo true! There is a rabbit at my humane society that i volunteer at and im allowed to take him out and play with him
GlaciaGaming If you can or if you are allowed to u might want to adopt him... Just a suggestion
Lol furry
There was a house in my town that was giving away rabbits for free,a few kids from my school decided to get one,one student got one without parent permission and dumped it in her neighbors yard, and the other student is just feeding their bunny carrots I tried to inform them about what they actually needed to feed it but they wouldn't listen.I feel bad for these poor helpless Rabbits what should I do?
Call your local rscpa or spca or similar.
Jazmin Hell steal the rabbits! XD jk!
Why did I read this as 'There was a mouse in my town'
It brought a tear to my eye when you said it gets abandon only 3 months after its adopted that's sad. I'm 11 and i'm a regular pet lover.
Me 2 😒
My mom decided to go out and get a rabbit for my daughters 11th birthday! He's extremely cute and everything but I literally know nothing about rabbits! Luckily my sister told me(it was supposed to be a surprise for both of us)so I was able to do research on them! I would not recommend carrot. It contains an excessive amount of sugar and it is a myth that rabbits need it ;)
They can be fed as an occasional treat , I know Erin knows this as she has mentioned this in her videos.
.
Nillo
I know they can get it as a treat once in a while, and I know that Erin knows this;) Aiming more to those who do not know it xx
+My Animal World oh okay that's cool we recently found a lost rabbit sleeping in our yard it so cute but I can't wait to find its owners it's great your letting others know how to care for them properly. :)
Your rabbit videos are some of the most pleasant to listen to and are really comprehensive. Good work.
I have a rabbit named tibbar and so far he a awesome little dude I look forward to having him for the rest of his life
We used to have a bunny. He lived alone, but the cats would keep him company. They never tried to hurt him
I've had the same bunny since I was 10. I am now almost 20 and live on my own. :) it can be done, just takes love and dedication. If for some reason you can't afford a vet bill, have a yard sell! Mow yards!
I've got a lovely black 6 month old rescue rabbit and he is so adorable and I love him! Thanks for this help 💖
Already have rabbits myself but was intrigued to watch anyway,
Have to say its a great starting point for anyone considering adopting a rabbit, very informative, wish there were more responsible owners like you out there
I really really do like bunnys. I was even planning to get one (with a nice dog that gets along with other animals) when i grow up. They r just so cute!
Great video Erin, you are the best. I will soon be getting my first ever hamster, and you have taught me everything I need to know
I want a rabbit so much but I'm in school and have to study and things. 😢
Maybe when I'm older though
If your parenys agree and you have even 2 hours a day you can do it I do
Yeah, you gotta wait. I always wanted a rabbit, I am 27 and I adopted one couple weeks ago :) it will be your time too
You should get this summer. I am getting 2 this summer
Thanks so much for this great video. We have shared it on our shelter facebook page to help educate anyone considering a bunny.
I have 2 rabbits, and your 100% right on everything in the video. I adopted my rabbits from the House Rabbit Society. Great job! 😀
This was so helpful, and in PERFECT timing . I was having a hard time deciding whether to get a rabbit or not. Man, I better get on with my research.
Awe. I wish I was able to care for one, they seem so sweet and docile.
When I need animal information I go to ur channel because I make things very easy for me to understand thanks
I would like to add, in shelters you can find bunnies ranging many ages so if you are wanting to own a rabbit for a shorter amount of time you can always by older rabbits
A great video!!
I got my 2 rabbits from our local animal shelter. There are always so many there! Surprisingly lately, more rabbits than dogs there!
My family rescued a chihuahua mix; they said that I have to take it to collage. She will be around for about 18 more years.
It's awesome you put this out there! It really upsets me when people get rabbits for their young kids for Easter, bunnies aren't for everyone and people need to research their needs first.

Twinkiex X I've lost 26 rabbits since I was born I miss them all so much 😔😭
Twinkiex X im so sorry to hear that, that dog owner is a class A douche bag!

My best friends rabbit, bun buns passed away at one year old! No joke. He suffocated on a plastic bag.
Aawwww! Jack is adorable :) great video!!
I got two miniature lops, we adopted the when they were babies ^^
They're now 7, called Papi and Chloe and they're free roaming in my room

I got a rabbit when I was 5 years old..he lived for 6 and a half years! Also it's wired because he loved cuddling and being strocked!
I have the most adorable Lion Head Lop Dwarf Rabbit called Flopsy who is 5! He knows his name is Flopsy but he always responds when I just say 'Bunny'
I have a dwarf bunny and he has the whole house to himself and every day he gets two salads some like kinda buiscut things pellets and hay ( and of course water ) and I live him soooo much

we have not got a nother vet where we live but thank you for answering my question
Great video hun =) You covered all the important parts of rabbit ownership =) With my 5 I think I can have the title Crazy Bunneh Lady! Tehe. Couldn't be without my bunnies! x
Hehe :P Thanks Cait, I'm glad you liked it! I was nervous about putting this one up since I'm not 100% confident with rabbit care yet :) x

Get 2 of the same gender
Keep them in separate cages until they can be sterilized. If they were together in the pet store, keep their cages beside each other.

My local shelter didn't have any bunnies, so I had to go to a breeder
Don’t get a rabbit on Easter just get it before of after because Easter’s probably the worse time to get a bunny or rabbit

The intro made me cry.I miss Einstein so much
Did my aunt do something wrong with her bunny Nibs? He died when he was 2 years old!
Sorry to hear about Nibs :(
Rabbits are perfect for me we used to have around 10 or 20
I used to have 2 hamsters then not to long ago one passed. I still have 1 but wanted to get a rabbit. I have had outdoor rabbits before I did not take very good care of them and they did not live very long.
what are the pros of getting rabbits?
This was such a sad video I was in tears watching it
How will i stop a rabbit from chewing my ikea lack hamster cage and other wood furniture?
OK... Might be dumbest question but "no seeds at all" does strawberry seeds count?
what kinda hay rack is that? my trixie refuses to,use any closed hay rack
I had one for 11 years he is not dead
Can you make a vid for how to convince your parents to get a bunny?
Omg yes 😂
I love bunnies
I get 2 rabbits Spring next year! And no not for Easter just the timing will be right for us
I was so excited to buy a baby bunny, but I don’t think I will ever do that again.. The neutering was so expensive! I will only be buying rescue rabbits from now on because they are already fixed and are in need of a home ❤️ I love my bunnies to death, they are wonderful pets.
This is amazing Erin!!
As long as you can afford the proper care for the rabbit, I don't see why not. Go for it!
Rosa Kytölä some of your pets might bite a rabbit
Why would you get rid of it if you're moving? My rabbit moved across two provinces with us and is still fine.
+Julia Wright When people move to other countries or to homes that don't accept animals there is often no choice but to rehome the animal, however it should of course be done properly and sadly too many people take the "easy" route of abandoning their rabbit in the old home or letting it loose outside.
+ErinsAnimals oh right. True.
I have to deny on what you said about rabbits hate being picked up my rabbit loves being picked up and he follows me around to be picked up
BunnyCare502 The majority of rabbits do hate it though as its not normal for them and it's something that would only usually happen when a bird catches them. Your rabbit is in a very small minority group which is why you won't hear people say that rabbits like to be picked up as most of the time they don't :)
I'm going to free range my rabbit in my room but have a cage to sleep, eat drink ect. the cage is 2×3. is that ok?
erin im considering getting a rabbit. in a years time i will move into a quite big room and if i had a rabbit it would be a house rabbit but i just want to know how messy house rabbits are as i will be the one doing the cleaning :)
+Oliver Clark (wtfudge99) It depends on the individual rabbit, some are messier than others. In general though you will spend anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes a day cleaning up after them especially when they are young and not litter trained.
ok thats not too bad as i have to clean my degus aswell
Is hemp string okay for Rabbits??
Oh no I already adopted my rabbit then I asked my landlord we live in an apartment she said no But we already bonded what should I do she is a clean non destructive bunny and very calm???!!!
We're adopting a black female mini rex mix with a single white paw rabbit from the humane society! Any name ideas? She's 3 years!
i have a cat that likes to hunt, is there a way i could have a rabbit and keep them separate or do you think it could be too risky? Thank you i really want one
Where I live, we have hot summers which usually come with a heat advisory and winters that usually don't have a ton of snow, but are Really. Freaking. Cold. And I wish I knew the picking up thing earlier.
I get +30 summers and -30 winters -_-
Wow. That's brutal.
Ya but it was worse when my mom was a kid
And the snow gets up to 4 feet high
No offense, but remind me to never visit where you live in the winter.
Very great and informational video!
And should never be on Slippy floors they kick off so hard some times which can Break their back.😔
Are they sort of like dogs and can sleep on your bed at night????
What If you have 2 rats, and a dog but you REALLT want a bunny, and you've don all the research, why *what do i do?*
