    Your very clear method of of teaching has helped me learn this fantastic heel technique. I've been knitting socks a long time but the Fleegle heel has changed everything for me...finally no holes and a better fit!

    Thanks so much for that little bit about 2 stitches beyond the marker so that I don't have to count! I am watching these so I can understand the mathematics behind the instructions and this helped a lot.

    I made my first socks from your video tutorial. I'm m also purling (or knitting backwards) back. Turn the heel and not turn the work? Brilliant! Thank you for taking the time to share these techniques.

    I am SO THRILLED to find this tutorial! I had struggled with a method used in a toe up sock book I purchased that was so complex it was impossible to follow. Following along with your video I was done in no time, no sweat, no swearing. Thank you!

    rocking awsome. i bought a book and had an awful time figuring out the heel...but you made it oh so simple. I'm not afraid of sock heals anymore.
    how can i ever thank you enough!?

    I love the way you teach. Are you able to do a video on the gusset and heel flap all the way to the bind off of a toe up knitted sock? I just learnt on my own to knit socks cuff down but I'm in live with toe up and no matter how many times I read my book on toe up and there aren't any good videos on it either get stuck at the gusset and heel flap. Live your videos! Hugs from Canada!

    I have one question tho....
    How I can avoid the holes in ea side after I finish the heel? Thanks again, and again :>)

    Thank you! I absolutely do have videos showing all the steps of the toe-up socks. This is just one of about 10 videos I have showing the process. Click the link in the description below the video or go to knitfreedom (dot) com / classes / toe - up - socks, and you can download the video course there. I hope this helps! PS thanks for your hugs and welcome to KNITFreedom, where all your toe-up sock dreams come true! :)

    When you started ,you were pulling the bottom needle out to start every round. In this video, you are pulling the back needle out, which is how I usually do magic loop. Which s correct?

  • @foxyzzzzz
    @foxyzzzzz 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use Magic Loop on the toes, then after the last increase, I switch to a 9" needle, and finish the sock on it. 12" is too big, usually used for sleeves.

    What if we don't want our heels so pointy, or we're knitting with more stitches in fingering weight yarn? If for instance, I want 14 stitches across the back of my heel, would I knit to 7 stitches beyond the marker before I start my turn? And then 7 stitches beyond the marker when purling (or mirror knitting) back? I've been doing short row W&T heels forever but I've grown tired of how tedious it is to knit short rows back and forth for over an hour per heel.

  • @dianeschuller
    @dianeschuller 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    my assumption, by watching this, is that the fleegle heel can be done top-down or toe-up. Would I be correct in assuming that?

  • @DianneCulbertsonJacques
    @DianneCulbertsonJacques 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    In your video series do you discuss when to change color for the heel if I'm doing toe/heel/cuff contrasting colors?

    • @vivianlaw13
      @vivianlaw13 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried to do a contracting heel and it is not possible with this method. The only thing I can suggest is to add the colour at this point because you are going back and forth only on the heel, although the colour will only be half of the heel.
      So what I have done to make it fun is to have 2 colours for the toe and main body and flip the colours on the 2nd sock and match the toes and cuffs... you can see this affect on my Instagram if you are interested... IG: vivlaw13 Hope that helped... happy knitting.

    Hello, I have knitted a bunch of toe up socks with the magic loop co, and then increasing every other row. I never liked the trapezoid toe shapes. I once came across a video that showed how to do a rounded toe. I can’t fid the video again. Was it one of yours? Do you have a pattern for a rounded toe?

    When I get ready to work the heel for the faux heel is it the same.... Your pattern for this sock is kinda funky only working to stitch 21 (I have 64 on my heel needle) and it seems a bit strange

    This heel looks and fits nice! So easy too! Can this heel be turned into a slip stitch heel somehow?

  • @Knitfreedom
    @Knitfreedom  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can, but I don't think it would be much fun. They could probably show you at your local yarn store. I would recommend giving Magic Loop at try - that way you can knit two-at-a-time also. Here's my class on that: knitfreedom (dot) com / classes / toe-up-socks.

  • @helenfitch3440

    I find when I do the fleegal heel, which I love, my heel adds an extra inch to the foot size. So instead of 2 inches off the length of the foot I need to allow 3 inches . Is this right ? Or am I doing something wrong .

    • @Knitfreedom
      @Knitfreedom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Helen! Are you using our free basic Fleegle heel toe-up sock patterns? (www.knitfreedom.com/free-patterns/socks/toe-up-sock-patterns/) For the gusset, it's best to start increasing as your knitting hits the front of your ankle. The extra inch added to your Fleegle heel sock is likely because the increases started too late. You may want to check out our blog post explaining when best to increase for the Fleegle heel, how to gauge where the front of the ankle is, and some other tips you may find helpful! www.knitfreedom.com/blog/when-to-start-your-fleegle-heel-increases-where-is-the-front-of-your-ankle/

    • @helenfitch3440
      @helenfitch3440 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have been starting about 2 inches before the heel but I find I need to start 3 inches at least or the foot grows by an inch. I calculate carefully now to counteract the measurements . All good I just need to be a little more cautious. It's a great heel though I love it.

    • @Knitfreedom
      @Knitfreedom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@helenfitch3440 Glad you're enjoying the Fleegle heel! Have you tried deciding to start the heel based on fitting and not strict measurements? Most people who have trouble with the Fleegle heel find that it’s from starting the gusset increases too late. Instead of measuring your foot and subtracting 2 or 3 inches, maybe try on the sock while flexing your foot as much as you can while pulling the sock on your foot to fit it snugly. This may help you gauge where to start the heel sooner.

    • @helenfitch3440
      @helenfitch3440 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that wouldn't work , I knit for the homeless so there is no chance to try the sock on. Good idea though. Measuring doesn't bother me . Thanks for your help. Now that I have found this heel pattern I won't be using any other one. I shouldn't be awful but I doubt very much if the homeless mind some extra length in their socks... 😃

    Thank you for so succinctly showing this heel in just under 7 minutes. I went to a vid about a best heel, and had to listen to the woman ramble for over 40 minutes and she didn't show how to do it. Another woman had a 1:09 (one hour 9 minutes) video to demonstrate the same heel. Argh.

    @Knitfreedom  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks! Actually, this is the Fleegle heel, which on the "turn heel" part is a short-row heel. Did you download the pattern and try it out? I never have any holes using the pattern. Find it at knitfreedom (dot) com / free - patterns :)
