5 Things I HATE About The 390 Adventure R

- KTM 390 Adventure | We have been waiting for a KTM 390 Adventure R almost since the 2020 release of the 390 Adventure. Now that is here, and despite it being VERY impressive, KTM really overlooked a few things that are more than cosmetic oversights. - Frank

Thank you for being Frank. Those are some interesting design issues. You are still in line, so I look forward to its release and your reviews. Thanks for the video and Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope you and the family have a wonderful Thanksgiving Rob! - Frank
Great observations. I am also disappointed in what KTM is delivering. Some of those issues will be a problem for some riders. Hmmm, the Aprilia Tuareg 457 is being tested in Rallies. Hmm, maybe that will be more offroad ready. Too bad we won't see it for a few years.
You’re making me love my 701 even more Frank! I was starting to rethink it when the news of the 390 Adv R came out. In all seriousness, great observations. There’s gonna be a lot to think about once it comes out. Happy Thanksgiving my friend!
Happy Thanksgiving in your part of the world Frank. Solid points that I’m still shaking my head at. I have lost faith in the manufactures ability to remotely try to change the simplest of issues on their motorcycles. It’s frustrating at best to see things like the KTM390, the newly designed 5 speed DRZ400 🙈 the 500 pounder Gen 3 KLR650 and we could go on and on. Happy holidays.
I hope you Thanksgiving was GREAT Dave! My greatest disappointment was the DRZ being the retooled bike, and not the DR650. Dualsport sales are down, its moving towards ADV bikes, and a new DR650 could be an amazing light ADV bike choice! - Frank
Happy Thanksgiving Frank. I see your points and feel they are valid. It'll be interesting to see how this bike changes as the release gets closer.
Hello Kyle, I fear the changes will be "bad" suspension! It looks pretty complete, and Indian viewers have said its suspected to be in production already for their market, Q1 release. - Frank
Really interesting points thanks

Agree, and I wouldn't replace my 2023 390 Adventure with any of the announced 2025 models. Another loss is no rear hand bars. Aside from use by a passenger, they are very useful as mounting points for luggage.
They do have hand bars, the EICMA bike had them removed. You can see where they bolt in and the spy shots of the bike at the rally in the USA clearly show the rear hand bars
As well as for something to grab onto to pick up or drag a bike.
@@212driller Which I need to do far too often!
This one appears to be heavily adjusted... I think handbars are legally required in many markets, and the final bike should have them. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank

I don't own a current generation 390 adventure, but from sitting on it in a dealership the ergonomics plus some of the compromises exceeded what I was willing to put up with. This upcoming generation speaks to me a bit more to give the range a second look. It has a lot to compete with in my mind space to get the purchase, but I am interested! The interesting bit for me is how will this compare to a 790 adventure. We have one in the family and that bike feels great on the type of terrain id take a 390 adventure on. So it'll come down to price, weight, ergonomics. My situation is I have a fantastic trail bike, I have a fast street bike, I have a comfortable touring bike...what I want is to not worry about putting hours on my trail bike but still get a few hundred miles of street and dirt done in 1 trip
I love my Tenere. No need for the remark about many on the market. KTMs for sale too. I also have a 890. No issue there either. Both are great bikes. Just different. Folks can never be happy. I have owned 11 bikes over the years. None perfect, but I have enjoyed them all.
Some valid point there...strange changes in design indeed. The seat height is perfectly normal for a 'R' model...not ridiculously high imo.
I saw the bike in the flesh last week and it is a really nice looking bike, but it is really a KTM 390Duke R, trying to make 2 completely different bikes out of one frame/engine just leaves both a bit compromised. I have the CF Moto 450MT and to be honest it is a fantastic bike, I am not tempted by the 390R at all. Another very fragile part on the 390R is the lower cruise control toggle switch, not only is it very exposed, it is also very fragile, better hand guards will help, but in the wrong kind of drop they will snap off easily.
8:11 The Point! I bought the KTM 390 ADV because a capable Sports Tourer with a 180mm+ ground clearance does not exist. Not to jump off the cliff 🤭. The roads in India are weird. You will be welcomed with stretches that are leagues ahead of the roads in the US and all of a sudden be shocked with roads that even a third world country would shy away from calling it roads. All 5 points are deeply concerning. What is going to save this bike is the rideability and the cruise control i.e if KTM doesn't stick to its subscription model.
I will be seriously contemplating the 390 adv R to replace my T7 but I have to say the more I think about it the more I know I should just keep my T7. We will see if this 390 can bring me to team orange.
I'll need to test ride it to decide if I'm willing to fork out the cash. Potential unicorn material for sure.
I was hoping to see a different exhaust on the Adventure R for eicma. The SMC and the ADV R have the Duke exhaust. BUT the Enduro R has regular exhaust. Wonder if they'll tweak it a bit still or go out of business.
Why do you need to tell me what you hate about it? Instead, tell me what suits you and let me decide if it suits me. There is no "unicorn" that fits everyone and everything. I am tall and have different needs than short people and then I decide where I drive and what is suitable for that.
Hello Erik, I made that videos as well. 😁 This one of for me, of course, and for anyone interested in what irks me, as a longtime 390 rider. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Great points all Frank! Especially the 02 sensor!!! Yikes! What were they thinking?
The more I look at the new Adventure R, the more I think the 390 Enduro with an Adventure Men Cave's tower would be a better option.
I think its a good look, but ya, it's no "tower" which has been used by some outlets. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Well, the issue is no more, as Ktm is gonna be dead in a few days... Anyway, thanks for the vid! Very informative; wish there were so many more vids like this, unbiased, that allow potential buyers some food for thought. Thx!
Hello Tech, KTM certainly seems all but doomed as an independent company. That said, the 390 is a Bajaj product, and taking a look at their stock value... They are doing great!
I am expecting Bajaj may just say we like the KTM brand... And buy it.
The only two issues being the KTM CEO does not want to be ousted, and with the EU want to allow an Indian company to own a European brand. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding Oh, absolutely; it just means another european firm is going to go into eastern hands. Not that I care much, I believe who works better has the right to own the market, it's just sad that so many companies aren't smart enough to see the errors of their managers, and kick them out before it's too late. It's as if there's a sort of latency in understanding what's under their noses. Then people like Elon Musk come, they don't care about inner power struggles, they just sack everyone, and replace them with guys they trust, because they've proven themselves. I like that. I would like even more if people were smarter and more humble and did their best to avoid it. It would make companies last longer. And people would keep their jobs. Because they don't have golden outlets like managers do.
Ok Frankie boy, the 390 r is not a bulldozer, and the bike is not a submarine, YOU CORNBALL DELUXE!!!!
And Frankie boy, learn some finest, ride on the road, dirt road, or trail, If something big is in the way, REMOVE IT, DONT JUST THRASH AND DESTROY THE BIKE!!! your new name is thrasher the cornball!!!!!😂
Oop's Finesse,,,,,,you bike wrecker you!!! How about bulldozer Joe new name????😂
ktm will be broke and gone in 12 months so i wouldnt worry about these ever being built
non sensical, fantasy hater comment
You don’t have a clue about running a business or finance. A brand like KTM does not die like you propose. 🤡
