    I work at a FAANG company and can tell you that most of the internal interviews are formalities, 90% of their hiring decision is based on your personal brand in the company and backdoor references. Don't underestimate the power of networking even within your own company!

    I cannot say I would recommend the "what additional skills or expertise do you wish I had that would make me a better fit for this role?" question. It's inherently negative. I tried it during my internal hire interview today and it turned the conversation into pure criticism. I'm entry level/early career professional. I don't have a lot of experience that would be valuable, and it's things I simply cannot change or speak to address. It just didn't work for me and I wouldn't recommend it, but it may work for others. Otherwise, this was a pretty helpful video.

    It is forbidden to speak to the interview manager/team at our company ahead of interviews. I have found that the hiring manager already knows who is going to get the job before the interview. It is simply a way to protect the company against legal claims.

    I have set up an Informational Interview before! Recently, a full-time position opened up in the department I already work for. I reached out to the Director of the department (the hiring manager for this position) and set up a meeting. Because of this meeting, I was able to learn more about the job, whether I would be considered for the position (due to some extenuating circumstances) and was able to develop a better relationship with the Director. I came upon this video because I am going into an interview for said position today and just thought I would share my experience with this style of preemptive interview. Worked out great for me, and even if I am not offered the job, I would highly recommend setting up a meeting like this. It strongly helps develop the relationship you want with your supervisor, and opens the door for future communication!

    First of all I want to say thank you, I started watching you videos needing advice on video interviews. Almost broke my leg, just a very badly bruised sprain, thank God. I got a phone interview and it was by far the best I've ever done. Moved on to in person interview and the man interviewing asked a few questions and then proceeded to tell me he's in trouble and could be fired for how he treated a coworker. Stunned, I listened and he said " out of anger, because the machines weren't working, he told her to pull up her skirt!"
    Was this a test or a red flag to not work there?

    I watched so many of these internal interview type videos and always the same advice. Talk to the team and the manager, get to know them, but somehow nobody seems to understand that it is an internal interview. I know the team because they are "MY TEAM" I know my hiring manager because he is MY MANAGER. Hey "INTERNAL"!!! I know the whole department in two different towns and guess what my competitions know them too.

The last time I interviewed for this position, I retroactively asked "What more can I do to be further considered" with the reply of "Nothing really, it was a tough decision, keep doing what you are doing"

    Can you please do a video for people who have had multiple jobs on their resume that were only slightly in light with their career direction, but they honestly just took the jobs because sometimes we can't be that fussy and we just take what we can get so we can pay our bills? Life isn't always perfect and in a straight line, and I think I am being ignored by every HR person out there because my career path seems to be a bit all over the place, but there's never a chance to say, "THIS is my path, THIS is what I want. The other jobs were more about paying the bills vs. matching my career direction."
    I am 35, and I feel like most of my jobs have had to be compromises because we can't all always get picked for the jobs we really want. Now, I can't get ANY job I want because I've mostly been NOT picked for what I wanted in the past.
    Help please!!

    Hey, I have a question with regards to questions at job interviews!
    Is it okay if some of my relevant responses to questions are a bit older? I'm basically just finishing my MA at uni. So I've pretty much been in academics my whole life + working part-time on many different jobs as I go. But my stories would be much more interesting if I could share both high school stuff as well as more recent experiences.
    What I'm saying is would sharing SOME stories from 2014-2015 put the job interviewers off or is it okay

    • @renaethecareercoach
      @renaethecareercoach 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would try to keep your responses to experiences you have had in the last 5 years. In your case (with it being 6 yrs ago) if the response or story you’d like to share aligns perfectly with the position you’re interviewing for and has direct correlation then I’d say go ahead and share it but make sure to also share experiences that are recent - even if it’s hands on class projects during your time in university. Employers usually value volunteer opportunities just as much as they do paid work. Hope this helps!

    None of this is aloud in the federal government. Wonder why we run everything backwards. I cannot wait to retire and go back to the private sector. Freedom !

    This video is alright but it's quite annoying that every minute you're directing to another video. my time is valuable. I don't have the time to watch a million videos from you. i understand you want to get attention for your other content as a creator, but it'd be nice to just go into a bit more detail and then direct viewers to other videos, rather than give a brief tease and then say watch the video on that. just my two cents
