After having a conversation with my manager which felt like a mock interview, I realized exactly what you just said, “Every interaction you have is part of that interview.” I think I lost focus and I truly wasn’t ready to apply for that position. I never really thought about all these yrs bcoz my focus was to earn money and enjoy life. Suddenly, I had an interest last week, why not give it a try. After seeing your internal politic, again I lost interest.
I also never considered trying for a promotion until it was recommended to me by two of my former managers. It is nerve-wracking, but I feel you should also just try for it. It might be worth just trying!
