This is what I have been waiting for. This whole time to get this type of matte / flat / solid color I would have to put down a base layer of matte gesso, and mix up the paint with matte gesso, and thin it down with water / flow release and slowly build up layers with the aid of a blow dryer... This would take forever and the colors were not as pure.
Turner Acryl gouache, Holbein acryla and lefranc burgeouis flashe have been available for years. What you described with having to mix gesso into paint sounds like a big hassle. So it's a good thing these types of paints are becoming more readily available!
What I'm waiting to hear is what's different about it than acrylic gouache. Cuz that's just what acrylic gouache is-matte acrylic. (I have the Turner Acryl Gouache set).
@@suzizfun you'll need to try SoFlat to appreciate the differences between it and acrylic gouache from our competitors. Ask your local art supply store about samples.
You can always mix a (super) matte medium into a glossy paint to cut the sheen. Only thing to keep in mind is that you can't truly make something very matte gloss again. To cut sheen you could also just put matte medium over your whatever it is you think is too shiny. And then there's of course also matte varnish. You can always add more matte!
Any coating, such as an isolation coat, varnish, acrylic medium or topcoat will change the low sheen surface of SoFlat Acrylics. If you wish to apply and isolation coat and varnish, we highly recommend creating a small sacrificial testing surface to see if it really suits your creative vision.
Wanted to ask few question, does golden super matte medium can be mixed with standard heavy body? Question number two is, can golden super matte medium work as coating like varnish? Thaanks in advance!
Yes, Super Matte Medium can be added to any of our paint lines to reduce the sheen of the paint. Super Matte Medium is so high on matting solids, that it’s not recommended to be used by itself. It’s best to add it to paints or mediums to reduce sheen. You could blend Super Matte Medium with small amounts of Fluid Matte Medium, but the matting solids in Super Matte Medium create a hazy film.
I have tried everywhere to get this paint, I've been an artist for years and use golden paints all the time, so when a product like this comes out I got so excited to try it on my projects. Problem is I now live in Spain and I cannot get this anywhere unless I pay horrendous shipping costs, so frustrating.
@@GoldenPaints hi, one distributor had some but are not restocking, I will have to get liquitex, it pains me to do so because your paint is usually the only paint I use but the project my art group is doing need a flat bright Matt paint, thank you for spending the time to let me know. Kindest regards Lee.
Hello Aimee, you probably know what we'll say - which is "it depends" - as everyone's idea of a normal layer is as different as the environments they're painting in and materials they're painting on... all of which greatly affect drying times. My experience is that they dry pretty much the same rate as our Fluid acrylic colors dry when they're applied a little on the heavy side. Here in upstate NY, with moderate humidity (about 70%) the boards in this demo were probably dry within an hour.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll pass it along. Please keep watching, as we're moving production of these livestream events into our new space - this should improve production quality overall once we're dialed in on all the software and equipment. You should see a difference in events starting in the next couple weeks.
I've just finished my first portrait with So Flat and I really love it!
So glad Golden is making flat (goauche) acrylic. Real color real flat. Thanks

Is this basically Acryla Gouache (Holbein) ?
@@joelleslie4657 there are significant differences between this and the Holbein Acryla Gouache - the best thing would be to compare them for yourself.
so with a roller you could achieve a surface that is more or less really smooth and doesn't have any marks, right?
This is very interesting... can't wait to try it 👍😊
Can you use isolate coat over it?

Also, do they mix cleanly?

We have distribution in Spain - but I can't confirm whether they're offering SoFlat paints.

Is the Color Chart for sale too ?
So existed to try this SoFlat product
What is the approx dry time of these paints for just a normal layer of paint with no water such as the samples you painted in this demo?
