The Tanaka - Kanoka subplot is so good. The scene with Tanaka rejecting Kanoka is really important. This whole time, Tanaka's crush on Kiyoko was basically a running gag played for laughs. It was easy to assume that Tanaka was just girl crazy, and that he only had a crush on Kiyoko because she was always in close proximity to him. This episode is the first time we're shown hints that Tanaka might be a lot more serious about Kiyoko than we might have previously thought.
Yeah, a lot of people kept saying "oh you need to drop it with Kiyoko already" but Tanaka showing resilience and tenacity even in romance is something I really loved about his character.

Hyogo Prefecture is located in the west of Japan, next to Osaka. Therefore, the pronunciation of Inarizaki players has a strong western Japanese accent. Inari refers to the Japanese shrine of fox worship. Inari are found throughout Japan, and foxes are worshipped as deities. Here's a little fun fact that might also help you tell the twins apart! "Atsu" means hot in Japanese and Atsumu has a warm color palette while "samu" means cold and Osamu has a cooler palette. It's easy to tell them apart now because they have different hair colors but the warmer vs cooler color palette might be useful to know when you see them in flashbacks where they both still have brown hair, you can use it to tell them apart. Just a heads up that this is the end of part one of the season, so starting next episode there is a new intro and outro. Additionally, part two was very obviously impacted by Covid, so they had to make quite a few sacrifices in terms of animation quality. Episode 15 and the first half of episode 19 had to be outsourced to different studios, and the animation at times is distractingly bad. I know you're not the type to really care about that, but I just wanted to make sure you're aware. The story and the action however are as high quality as usual, and for the big moments they make sure to go all-out with the animation.
I was so hoping the blue-ray would have redrawn those scenes, but unfortunately they're only just touched up (shadows and linework added). It's painful to watch, after all the clean amazing animation Haikyuu has had, but at the same time it now has its own history in the show for me.
Sarah: "I'm expecting some serious match play. I cannot wait. I'm expecting big things " Sarah a few minutes later: Tanaka, y u no give Kanoka a chance? 😢😢
This was the last episode of season 4 part one. Imagine having to wait for not a week but months after the end of this episode. it was heart wrenching haha
I think the difference between Oikawa and Miya is that Oikawa basks in all the attention he receives from fans, and Atsumu couldn't care less. He just cares about volleyball and other players.
It was like a 6-month break or something between this episode and the second half of the season when it was airing. The wait back then was pretty bad 😅This game gets pretty intense at times so remember to breath
@@khushir6340 tbh looking back, I think I was lucky not having to go through the 4-year between season 3 and season 4 and with the manga not finished at that time😅
The thing I remember most about this episode was how it was the final episode that aired before the COVID shutdowns. The pain of the cliffhanger for all those months was so unbearable. Sarah's reaction at the end of episode was all of us for sure, but at least she can watch it right away haha.
I'm so happy about the twin reveal, they are some of my favorites characters, and I can't wait for you to see why as the season goes on! Atsumu is popular but doesn't indulge fangirls like OIkawa does haha. This match is my favorite as you see how far Karasuno has come and how interesting their opponents are this time :D
ohohoho we're starting one BEAST of an arc/match. i am SO pumped and i love how quickly you called Atsumu's serving ritual tacky LMFAOOO as you should queen (and this is coming from someone who adores Atusmu)
I love that Sarah is so frustrated that the episode stops there, when the rest of us had to wait like a year from the episode ending till the next one came out 😂
For me Nekoma has the best slogan. I mean it's just one word "CONNECT" but it captured what it meant to be a volleyball player perfectly. Karasuno's slogan also sounds cool in Japanese language. "TOBE".
Inarizaki are from Hyogo the third biggest city in Kansai after Kyoto and Osaka. I don't know if you noticed but Atsumu speaks in the Kansai dialect. The name of the school Inarizaki is related to the rice goddess Inari and the foxes that were her messengers. That's why you see a shrine behind the Inarizaki team in the final scene of the episode and that's why Atsumu was drawn as a fox.
I love the comment about hating every team that plays against Karasuno, except for the ones we’ve gotten to know. I think this is a big reason why I enjoy re-watching Haikyuu so much. It’s a lot of fun to come back to these matches when I’m already familiar with the teams and players, since so much is revealed gradually throughout the match and you don’t really know them until the end. There’s so much to notice the second or third time around!
I am super behind on reactions but I had to see Sarah’s reaction to Atsumu serving. I love him so much but I know he’s gonna be Oikawa 2.0 for her. I’m dying 😂😂😂😂
I rarely comment on videos here on YT but I am just so excited to see you react to the next few episodes. My friends never really understood my reactions while watching this game with Inarizaki and I can't wait to see you do the same. I still cry during the best parts and I am just so proud of the boys. Can't wait for your next video!
Ok about inarizaki's motto of "we don't need the memories". It comes from the mindset of teams usually entering with the mindest of "hey we might not be good but at least we get the experience/good times". Hence Inarizaki is making a statement with their motto essentially saying "no we're not here to make memories, we're here to win"
That's...not really what it means at all. In fact it's explicitly stated in the anime/manga that the meaning is if you're looking back at the past you can't move forward. This is then spelled out by a certain silver haired boy who says that kids mostly only look at results, but it's the HOW you got there that's important. That all the things you do every day make you who you are.
Just leaving my support & while I'm at it, gonna leave my personal opinions about some of the subs asu usual: 7:38 「影山が言う程かよ?!」→ "You're actually admitting that?". The more literal translation would be "(Atsumu's) so good to the degree that it makes Kageyama say those things!?". Their translation makes it seem like they're surprised by the fact that Kageyama admitted to someone's skills, but the line is actually more about the guys getting shocked by Atsumu's skill level being even higher than they anticipated by hearing Kageyama, who rarely says these kinds of things, praise Atsumu. 11:33 「そういうノリでやるもんじゃねぇべぇ?」→ "This probably isn't the time for that". The more literal translation would be "That's not the kind of thing you say with that kind of flow". In other words, Azumane is saying that saying those sentimental phrases should come naturally, with the flow of the moment, & not something you'd say after being told to do so. Azumane isn't completely denying the timing or words like their translation makes it seem. 19:04 「こっちで試合の時は」→ "Whenever I have a match in the city". The more literal translation would be "Whenever I have a match over here". The "over here" refers to either Tokyo &/or areas in it's vicinity in contrast to her usual home base (Miyagi & it's surrounding areas up north). Saying "in the city" here may lead to 2 possible misunderstandings by a viewer who doesn't have a good grasp of Japan's geography. 1) The opposite to "the city" would seem to be "the suburbs" or "outskirts", & thus might lead some to get the wrong impression that Miyagi is some place just on the outskirts of the "city" they're currently in instead of a prefecture miles away. 2) There're actually many people who think that Tokyo is a city instead of a prefecture, & this translation might further fortify that misunderstanding.
I know its almost expected with this show, but from atsumus arrogance, the teams attidtude, to their strange slogan, youll fall in love with everything about inarizaki soon enough
Sarah: "No you cannot stop the episode right there are you kidding me?" Me: "Just watch the entirety of the rest of the show RIGHT NOW. Dew itt. Give in to your feelings"
I can't believe I forgot about how Karasuno combats Inarizaki's fans in the next episodes. It's honestly such a great moment to make the playing ground neutral.
Fun little tidbit about the manga that likely wont make it into the anime, Kanoka's team goes on to win Nationals for the Girls. Also this wasn't just a cliffhanger episode, it was the end of an entire season which had a HUGE wait til it picked up again. The orange jerseys were a crucial narrative choice, it'll become clear why later.
First of all how can a volleyball player look so good you're stunnig just amazing. And the way you speak is soo soothing. Your reaction is perfect to everything best I've seen so far. Keep doing what you're doing waiting for new video. 🤍
Hehe I was so delighted to see how surprised you were with the twin reveal! And omg yeah Atsumu's serve routine.... It's a thing... 😂💀 Sarah-zilla gave me life. I definitely felt the same way when I first saw Atsumu serve too. 😂 The Kanoka and Tanaka story is so cute 🥺 she is truly a queen (which is what the manga nicknames the niiyama girls team members I believe!) Oikawa >>> Atsumu (in my heart) but yes I think your analysis was spot on!
The Tanaka + Kanoka romance is used to highlight Tanaka's character traits that are important for later on in the season. He's a tough guy in the best ways possible. At his core he is a softie but his bad boy looks and demeanor reflect his mental and emotional resiliency.
you hate everyone they play, but in this show it isn't the hate that drives the teams to beat each other. You will see it in this matchup throughout. It is an admiration, and a drive to beat their opponent at their best. You have seen it throughout, especially after practice matches, they break off and play together helping each other. They want to beat the other guy when he is at his best. It is what i love about this show, a typical American show it would be the hate that drives the teams.
I have a different perspective from you about the scene with Daichi and Kuroo from the last episode. You take the 'facade' as being the competitiveness between the two teams whereas I took it as both leaders know the next day will be hard going and they can't afford to focus on their friendly rivalry.
No they were not ONLY stopping the episodes here, they were actually stopping the HALF SEASON here and it was so painful🥲 and btw the opposite team is sooooo cool in upcoming half season
This is by far my favorite match in all of haikyuu it has a lot of my favorite moments and the more you watch and study inarizaki as a team the better it becomes because of how similar their PlayStyle is to karasuno
Btw the cheer the booing, it is actually does not happen in japan, by the coach donny another reactor to haikyuu show say that in the FIVB world cup japan as home country actually put their own japanese people to sit on the opponent cheers side to help the hype the opponent to show support, what a beautiful culture japanese have.
"Come on dude!" That's what I thought of Tanaka when I first read his scene with Kanoka in manga 😂 But yeah now I get that he's very pure and loyal(?) to our lovely Kiyoko 🥲 I looove that you get to see miya twins! I really love this match 🥳 You're right about Oikawa because he never been to nationals, but even if he did I guess he would be slightly more popular in terms of "girls following him" haha because Oikawa is nice with girls but I feel like Atsumu is gonna chew them up if they ever interrupt his routine even outside the match 🥶🥶🥶 but again, Atsumu has twin brother so yeah I feel like those girls like have more space to cheer for both of them, if they got scolded by Atsumu they could go to Osamu 😂
Thank you for the warning... As Atsumu is my favourite haikyuu character and inarizaki is my fav team.... So I needed that But honestly I was also like you when i first watched haikyuu just after the end of season 3. Hated all karasuno rivals..😅. But after rewatching it before season 4. 27:21 I don't care what others say that is a power move. Like make the other team go "coach? We brought the white flag right?" kind of power move. That one move tells you so much about him on so many levels of what kind of player he is.
25:10 OMG I love Sarah's view on the Cheering section XD HAHAHA AND ALSO THAT GODZILLA CLIP 27:51 caught me off guard I can't HAHA lmao can't way for the next ep T^T
‘We don’t need the memories’ I know, at first, it sounds arrogant but if you keep watching, the message is to only look forward and not dwell on the mistakes and errors in the past. Which is a message that both teams embraced during this season.
There are so many things you will learn about Inarizaki players, their moto and crowd, about Tanaka, some new things about our team as well. But the only thing I'll say is remember how frustrated you were because the episode ended and you will understand how frustrated we were because THIS WAS THE SEASON END, WE HAD TO WAIT FOR MONTHS TO SEE THIS EPIC GAME!!!
Laughing when Sarah says the season could be strictly about volleyball when this show gives so many life lessons and gems through the playing of volleyball

@@nashi2414 me too. Sadly it was not possible, but now the team wil compete for 3rd place and also for europe competition.
I loved how you looked at the camera and immediately looked back at the screen at the same time as those sounds effects at 13:30 😆so funny
Ngl... I didn't notice 😂 I get too invested in the storyline and the characters' hair
Sarah: "I'm expecting some serious match play. I cannot wait. I'm expecting big things "
Sarah a few minutes later: Tanaka, y u no give Kanoka a chance? 😢😢
Important issues to discuss haha
This was the last episode of season 4 part one. Imagine having to wait for not a week but months after the end of this episode. it was heart wrenching haha
*Miya Atsumu serves* "Is that a thing they do??" hoo boy are we in for a long couple months
I'M SORRY!!! I HAVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING!!!
I think the difference between Oikawa and Miya is that Oikawa basks in all the attention he receives from fans, and Atsumu couldn't care less. He just cares about volleyball and other players.
Sarah Godzilla was so unexpected - that freaking killed me 🤣
It was like a 6-month break or something between this episode and the second half of the season when it was airing. The wait back then was pretty bad 😅This game gets pretty intense at times so remember to breath
Oh yeah i remember that!!!
I went to read the manga then😂😂
@@khushir6340 tbh looking back, I think I was lucky not having to go through the 4-year between season 3 and season 4 and with the manga not finished at that time😅
@@linh_tran93 i wasn't that lucky!🤣
I had to willingly forget haikyuu...thats why couldn't do it the second time 😅😅
I will pass out 100%. I can't believe there was a 6-month wait when it aired!! Impossible!!!
Nah the "We don't need the memories" is the best slogan in the series IMO they'll cover what it means more later on.
And is similar to Karasuno in more ways that it is not.
The thing I remember most about this episode was how it was the final episode that aired before the COVID shutdowns. The pain of the cliffhanger for all those months was so unbearable. Sarah's reaction at the end of episode was all of us for sure, but at least she can watch it right away haha.
I laugh so hard waiting for Sarah's reaction to Atsumu's stopping the marching band. And her reaction didn't disappoint me at all 😁😂
I'm so happy about the twin reveal, they are some of my favorites characters, and I can't wait for you to see why as the season goes on! Atsumu is popular but doesn't indulge fangirls like OIkawa does haha. This match is my favorite as you see how far Karasuno has come and how interesting their opponents are this time :D
I am fully expecting tears... multiple times.
ohohoho we're starting one BEAST of an arc/match. i am SO pumped
and i love how quickly you called Atsumu's serving ritual tacky LMFAOOO as you should queen (and this is coming from someone who adores Atusmu)
You’re gonna love Tanaka in the upcoming episodes. He’s one of the most relatable characters in Haikyu, especially for young athletes
The satisfaction of silencing an away gym/stadium is something else. It’s a different kind of high
Sarah : " We are just at the surface of this match.."
Rest of us : Smile
but am I right?
Sarah: “That pose was tacky”
Also Sarah: *puts Atsumu’s pose as the thumbnail*
I love that Sarah is so frustrated that the episode stops there, when the rest of us had to wait like a year from the episode ending till the next one came out 😂
Sarah's reactions are always genuine, that's why I love her hahahahhahahahaha
The immediate trash talk about Inarizaki had me dying 😂 i think it’s the volleyball player in you, and i love it.
I LOVE Kanoka. She's so cute, and us tall girlies who were made fun of in school need to stick together. (My nickname in hs was Tree lol)
Sarah was bummed when there was a cliffhanger. Imagine if she was like many of us where we waited many months for the next episode.
I am super behind on reactions but I had to see Sarah’s reaction to Atsumu serving. I love him so much but I know he’s gonna be Oikawa 2.0 for her. I’m dying 😂😂😂😂
👀 couldn't handle it 😂
when tanaka says "city boy" it's always sounds like "sh*tty boy" and everytime it's crack me open lol 🤣🤣
Hence Inarizaki is making a statement with their motto essentially saying "no
we're not here to make memories, we're here to win"
That's...not really what it means at all. In fact it's explicitly stated in the anime/manga that the meaning is if you're looking back at the past you can't move forward. This is then spelled out by a certain silver haired boy who says that kids mostly only look at results, but it's the HOW you got there that's important. That all the things you do every day make you who you are.
One of my favorite parts of this episode was the look of pride Bokuto had after Hinata's blunder, lol
Your editor seriously, and I mean SERIOUSLY needs a raise.....
Just leaving my support & while I'm at it, gonna leave my personal opinions about some of the subs asu usual:
7:38 「影山が言う程かよ?!」→ "You're actually admitting that?".
1:43 again, it was no "i'm going to beat you" at all, it was "what if we won't make it to Battle At The Garbage Dump?"
Sarah getting annoyed about cliffhanging episode. While rest of us had to wait for a year 😂
I cried after every episode after that 💀
“We don’t need the memories” is such a good phrase tho
I know its almost expected with this show, but from atsumus arrogance, the teams attidtude, to their strange slogan, youll fall in love with everything about inarizaki soon enough
Sarah: "No you cannot stop the episode right there are you kidding me?"
Me: "Just watch the entirety of the rest of the show RIGHT NOW. Dew itt. Give in to your feelings"
I can't believe I forgot about how Karasuno combats Inarizaki's fans in the next episodes. It's honestly such a great moment to make the playing ground neutral.
running kanoka is the cutest thing ever
The Sarah-zilla killed me 🤣🤣🤣 I am so hype for this match
Fun little tidbit about the manga that likely wont make it into the anime, Kanoka's team goes on to win Nationals for the Girls. Also this wasn't just a cliffhanger episode, it was the end of an entire season which had a HUGE wait til it picked up again.
The orange jerseys were a crucial narrative choice, it'll become clear why later.
The COVID delay for part two was real
now i can't stop thinking about Daichi casually smoking a cigarette in the balcony
My favorite 26 year old highschooler
First of all how can a volleyball player look so good you're stunnig just amazing. And the way you speak is soo soothing. Your reaction is perfect to everything best I've seen so far. Keep doing what you're doing waiting for new video. 🤍
Godzilla Sarah was a welcome surprise 😂
Sarah cringing at Atsumu shutting the band up is hilarious. 😂 Because IKR it's so extra!!
I really love your reactions Sarah!
Imagine waiting 5+ months for the next episode! That’s how long we had to wait. You’re lucky, Sarah.
(I always knew you would like Kanoka’s backstory)
Hehe I was so delighted to see how surprised you were with the twin reveal! And omg yeah Atsumu's serve routine.... It's a thing... 😂💀 Sarah-zilla gave me life. I definitely felt the same way when I first saw Atsumu serve too. 😂 The Kanoka and Tanaka story is so cute 🥺 she is truly a queen (which is what the manga nicknames the niiyama girls team members I believe!)
Oikawa >>> Atsumu (in my heart) but yes I think your analysis was spot on!
Sarah-Zilla was a mood 😂 The Kanoka-Tanaka subplot is everything to me right now.
i really love this match! you gonna love it!!
The Tanaka + Kanoka romance is used to highlight Tanaka's character traits that are important for later on in the season. He's a tough guy in the best ways possible. At his core he is a softie but his bad boy looks and demeanor reflect his mental and emotional resiliency.
the full game is a service clinic
Nishinoya is so cute. He is like a kid during summer vacation. He always gets sleep earlier and wake up earlier than anybody else😊💞
actually it's not end of the episode, it's the end of the season haikyuu!! : to the top part 1
atsumu is definitely more known id say, hes got the rep of the best setter in japan vs oikawa being in the prefecture
you hate everyone they play, but in this show it isn't the hate that drives the teams to beat each other.
What's worse, they not only stopped the episode here, they had a mid season break at this point, can you believe it?!
I have a different perspective from you about the scene with Daichi and Kuroo from the last episode. You take the 'facade' as being the competitiveness between the two teams whereas I took it as both leaders know the next day will be hard going and they can't afford to focus on their friendly rivalry.
cant wait for you to get to know inarizaki better! i've a feeling you'll like their captain!
We don’t need the memories refers to their play style. They don’t dwell on what they have done and always try new things and improvise
I'm so excited for you to meet Kita properly. I have no doubts that you will like him :D
No they were not ONLY stopping the episodes here, they were actually stopping the HALF SEASON here and it was so painful🥲
and btw the opposite team is sooooo cool in upcoming half season
This is by far my favorite match in all of haikyuu it has a lot of my favorite moments and the more you watch and study inarizaki as a team the better it becomes because of how similar their PlayStyle is to karasuno
Btw the cheer the booing, it is actually does not happen in japan, by the coach donny another reactor to haikyuu show say that in the FIVB world cup japan as home country actually put their own japanese people to sit on the opponent cheers side to help the hype the opponent to show support, what a beautiful culture japanese have.
This is the match that you'll be rewatching over and over
"Come on dude!"
That's what I thought of Tanaka when I first read his scene with Kanoka in manga 😂
But yeah now I get that he's very pure and loyal(?) to our lovely Kiyoko 🥲
I looove that you get to see miya twins! I really love this match 🥳
You're right about Oikawa because he never been to nationals, but even if he did I guess he would be slightly more popular in terms of "girls following him" haha because Oikawa is nice with girls but I feel like Atsumu is gonna chew them up if they ever interrupt his routine even outside the match 🥶🥶🥶 but again, Atsumu has twin brother so yeah I feel like those girls like have more space to cheer for both of them, if they got scolded by Atsumu they could go to Osamu 😂
bahaha it's true. I agree that Oikawa would probably have more female fans if he went to Nationals. He definitely seems more aware of the ladies.
Loving this, can't wait to see the new intro reaction as what we gotta coming up
I love how invested sarah is in the tanaka love story arc. So sweet
Your lucky that you have the hole season to watch I completely lost my mind when this episode was the last before several months break
I think the Kanoka ship 🚢 woulda been so great considering their history😭
This cliffhanger was the worst for me, because they went into hiatus afterwards. I was forced to read the manga because I was so curious.😂
I love Season 4 Part 2. So many fav episodes, can't wait for your reactions!
Thank you for the warning... As Atsumu is my favourite haikyuu character and inarizaki is my fav team.... So I needed that
But honestly I was also like you when i first watched haikyuu just after the end of season 3. Hated all karasuno rivals..😅. But after rewatching it before season 4. I realised how awesome other teams are. Oikawa became my then fav. But then came season 4 with it came Atsumu 😍.. After reading the manga.. he solidified his place as my most fav haikyuu character. I love that dork and asshole sooo much 😊
Can't wait to see future reactions ❤
27:21 I don't care what others say that is a power move. Like make the other team go "coach? We brought the white flag right?" kind of power move. That one move tells you so much about him on so many levels of what kind of player he is.
25:10 OMG I love Sarah's view on the Cheering section XD HAHAHA AND ALSO THAT GODZILLA CLIP 27:51 caught me off guard I can't HAHA lmao can't way for the next ep T^T
to explain the shrine behind Inarizaki - inari is a guardian fox of a japanese temple that's why there is the shrine and you will see foxes ^^
I love your reaction so much!
Just wait that "We dont need the memories" is explained later and honestly i like it
I love how you were shading the Tsubakihara boys for their yellow bows, and then you go and put a pretty red one on Tanaka at 5:01
That is Lydia's doing! We clearly are not on the same page haha
‘We don’t need the memories’ I know, at first, it sounds arrogant but if you keep watching, the message is to only look forward and not dwell on the mistakes and errors in the past. Which is a message that both teams embraced during this season.
The ending of this episode is what made me catch up in time to the last stretch of the manga in 2020
There are so many things you will learn about Inarizaki players, their moto and crowd, about Tanaka, some new things about our team as well. But the only thing I'll say is remember how frustrated you were because the episode ended and you will understand how frustrated we were because THIS WAS THE SEASON END, WE HAD TO WAIT FOR MONTHS TO SEE THIS EPIC GAME!!!
Laughing when Sarah says the season could be strictly about volleyball when this show gives so many life lessons and gems through the playing of volleyball
at the time they didnt just end the episode with that.. that was the end eof part1 of the season. it was planned that its only a few weeks break until part2 but bacause of covid we waited over a year for more :D that was hell.
IVE WAITED FOF THIS FOR A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME !!
💃 💃 💃
Amazing reaction! 🔥👍🔥👍
