Another useful tip that works most time.. If you zoom out the entire track and set quantize to current grid. So for instance when this track is zoomed all the way out the grid markers are every 4 bars so Live will only throw in a warp marker every 4 bars. really good for dance music.

Obviously time warping vocals isn't ideal (unless you're going for that sort of sound intentionally) but if you have no other choice, check your warp mode. If it's on 'beats' it wont work very well for vocals and will sound chopped up as you described. Try different warp modes and see which one you like the sound of the most. If you want to keep a clean sound your best bet is 'complex pro'

thanks mate, just what i needed.
99% of digitally produced tracks don't change their tempo. So I'd recommend to find the exact BPM (by means of external software) and then warp it. Tapping isn't accurate enough and thus the track went off slightly over time, that's why you had to correct it - although the tempo didn't change.
i stick the track into virtual dj first that normally finds the original bpm for me before i warp it in ableton

You can also just delete all the warp markers and set the original tempo. Solved the warping problem on a large vocal stem i had.

The Tap button still warps the reference Audio for me in Live 10 even with Warp off, but great tips.
What if you freeze that channel?
Freezing it didn't work, I had to switch from arrangement view to session view
pretty much how i warp but i would mention to set the warp algorithm to complex rather than beats to reduce quality loss

try my method, get the original track warped into ableton then break up ur acapella underneath your previopusly warped track, get ur acapella in sync with the original then consolidate it, delete original and ur left with a warped acapella

Place multiple markers throughout the track at smart places to avoid drifting off over time
every time i press the Tap button, the audio file keeps adjusting to the tempo i am tapping. How do i stop that from happening? Warp was off

Hello, and thanks for all this info. . . I wonder if you can tell me why Ableton keeps warping my tracks? I have turned off warp in the preferences, and in the individual track configuration; but each time I record a new track (I'm just recording with a mic and a guitar through a Focusrite USB interface), the "warp" button is lit up yellow, and my tracks are out of sync.
I can't get help from the forums because my license type (I'm using Ableton First and trying to learn the basics), doesn't allow access. I could really use a hand.

I am trying to Drag and Drop audio from Maschine 2 into Abelton 9. Both are in stand alone. Why does this not work?!!!!!!! I don't need Abelton to change the tempo & warp the audio for me. I don't need Abelton to try and think. I have a brain & can do that simple mundane task on my own. Not being able to do this without screwing with every single clip to keep in tempo makes Abelton absolutely useless to me. WTH!
Hi, i made a beat on one track with only audio clips next to each other and i need to apply my self made groove quantize to these audio clips with out need to consolidate the clips to one audio loop , is there anybwhy tp apply swing quantize to audio clips on the arreng window ?????????
i sent my friend a clip for his song that i worked on in Pro Tools and this Ableton warp nonsense totally fucked it over. even after he turned it off in the preferences, one track still doesn't want to work. i wish i knew why.

I just wanted to play along with guitar track but its impossible because it auto warps every mp3 i load in this programm. cant turn off the warping. just want to playback a simple song and play and record over it. to much to ask i gues.

@@its_ya_guy_the_big_bak_guai I just drag and drop a song from an album and this software needs major tweaks just to play it in the tempo it's recorded in. Played a dream theater song and the software just decided to speed it up halfway to the song. No markers placed and none to remove because there are no markers made.

i have a piano melody that is on beat in the first like 4 beats, then the melody slowly becomes off beat, it plays slightly later and later after each beat. someone know how to fix this?!?! i cant do it ;(

There you can see how poor the warping in Live after 10 years still is. "For some reason the first beat isn´t in the right place..." - But why?? There is silence before the beat and it is a 4 to the Floor track. Every other program (e.g.Traktor) does it right. Imagine putting a CD into a Pioneer and it would not find the first beat...
This doesn't work if you have a track with a live drummer. It's still all over the place.
Nice but more problems is with differen acapellas in different tempo's... Please make new good tutorial about warping acapellas, vocals and sync acapellas to beat ::)

Sorry Rob, wrong way of warping this track.
Just do set 1.1.1 here, do warp from here straight and drag 1 pseudo warpmarker at the end of the track to the right place, without making it yellow (not needed and wanted).
Tempo tapping totally not needed for EDM tracks that have a clear 4/4 pattern and don't have an exeptional low or high tempo.
what does warp mean?
stretch and contract, speed up and slow down.
When I go to tap the tempo it changes as the thing is playing, yours doesn't seem to do that.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
You probably didn't switch Warp button off.
I know what it is, had the same problem.. you need to drag your track into Session view and not Arrangement view.
Nudge right a bit for 1.1.1. Quality Control lad.

Are you joking its got better, its got worse, more options It used to lock stuff down good. now i struggle to get stuff to sit right, not sure what they done but for warping im using an older ver of ableton.been using it since it came out so iv exsperianced all the diff working vers. maybe its me getting old.. could be. Auto warp never works right, why offer it. i always turn that stuff of. Horses for courses.
this method doesn't work, ableton sucks. I recorded sound with tempo 103, dragged it to ableton and it plays it too fast when warped and i can't make it right....
