  • Been on the list forever? Still waking up every morning hoping today might be the day? Think that Rolex Submariner, Daytona or GMT Master 2 will be easier to get now? Here are my thoughts on the situation. A mixture of good news, and bad news!

    I did buy one Rolex from my ad a year ago so I guess I had a purchase history. Either way, I went in recently to “shoot the breeze” and ask about the batgirl. My ad had one and offered it to me on the spot! Needless to say i bought it! So yes, i think it is getting easier to get watches! Exciting times :)

    How difficult do you think would it be to get the two-tone GMT GRNR? I love that watch, it's a precious metal watch, but it's still a GMT. Also, are Day Dates more available to get?

    • @TheRandomWatchDude
      @TheRandomWatchDude  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think if you prove you are a serious buyer to an AD, and you have cash ready to go, you would get that TT GMT very quickly. They're nowhere near as popular as the full steel. Day Dates are a lot more difficult as they are seen as prestige models, for the upper classes, and ADs are careful who they sell them to. Again if you prove you are serious and have the cash then go for it. Go for both is my advice, and one will come quickly.

    I went into an AD while on vacation and dropped in for 5 minutes asking about an SS Explorer 1 36mm for my father’s birthday. He shrugged me away but was nice and I went on about my vacation. In 36 hours, the SA texted me asking me to come in to claim it! It is getting slightly better for some of the entry models, including no date and date black bezel subs. But gmt’s and up still require some purchase history it seems. I have about $25k spend at an AD and am still waiting on a sprite.

      That's a very nice story, and one which would have been unheard of a couple of years ago. Even since I made this video, I think the market has become even better for us buyers. Not easy, but realistically achievable for most models except those pesky GMTs and Daytonas!

    Just went to an AD a couple of days ago with my brother to enquire about a watch for each, the watch seller was kind and friendly she had us on the Sub Date and the Batman without a purchase history, tho she was pushing us off of other models at first like the new GMT, the Batgirl and was trying to give us the no-date Sub, she didn't try to sell us less popular models, she was interested in putting us on watches according to our personal preference. She didn't give us a wait time range when we asked but I think this may be a good sign

    Very good video, I'm glad I found your channel!
    I agree and don't think we will ever see a Daytona offered without a purchase history again. GMT is a toss-up. Submariner might be offered with no purchase history if you show your face regularly. I was offered mine with a purchase history. There's also a family-owned AD in my area who said they could get double the Rolex allocations and it would be nowhere near the amount they would need to satisfy demand.
    For everyone wondering why you will never see these models on shelves again even if grey market prices aren't that bad, it's because Rolex knows how well this strategy works. You walk into a dealer and see empty shelves and immediately think of high demand and exclusivity even if the market dictates otherwise.

    Hi great video it took me 18 months to get a bi metal sea dweller I didn't have Rolex spend history and live about one and half hours drive away from my nearest Rolex ad so it was hard to just pop in for a chat. But what I tried and did was to be completely honest with them and did go in about five times in 18 months tried on different watches and sizes which I really need to do as I have very big wrists. In the 18 months I did cave in and buy a james Cameron from the Gray market and told my Rolex ad to take me of the list for that model. I'm a person hoo likes to be honest with people so when I was going to give up and get a bi metal sea dweller on the Gray market I went to my Rolex ad for a update and asked him how much longer I would have to wait with Rolex and he told me about 6 weeks so I waited .it took 8weeks I don't know if that was the best way or not what do you think? Thanks John.

      Hi John. Your story reminds me of when I got my SD43 actually. Back in early 2021, I decided I'd waited long enough, and had a frank conversation with the sales associate about how I was disappointed that I was not getting a call, and had seen a couple of their other sports watches being flipped, so how come those flippers get a call and I don't? Literally within days I got a call for the SD43. So that's why I think being honest, and genuine helps a lot. Love that two tone SD!

    It’s not easier at least here in Taipei. I went to the highest rated Rolex AD in Taipei today I found on google and I straight up asked them how hard it is to get a Pepsi gmt. They said they have not gotten even 1 in the past year. I also asked if I needed to buy other watches to bundle with the more desirable models or have a major spend history and they said no I do not have to. They said the issue is that they are not getting stock for more desirable models, there’s simply not enough to go around. Anyway I put my name down for the Starbucks and the Pepsi and not holding my breath.

      As someone who is in the game , let me explain. U have no spend history so u have no chance . Zero. Next , they want u to treat the brand like a girl u hope to date. U wouldn’t get her if u dun take the initiative to make her happy first . That includes buying things that u may not need or like. Of coz the pretty girl u like will never tell u to buy anything for her because she is “not that type of gold digger” so it’s really “up to u” and take things easy after all she is not looking for love since she has options .
      This is the perfect example I believe 😂
      So it’s always your call , Tudor , oyster Perpetual 34 , lady datejust 28 (best if two tone or full gold ) . These days, they will give u a little hug and make u feel you have more chance to bed her if u buy full full gold sub , full gold sky dweller or yellow or white gold YM.

I have past history of shopping in the store since they used to service my Breitling. Steel Submariners, GMT Masters, and pretty much all Daytona's will still be very hard to come by. In some markets (particularly Australia & New Zealand) the hotter steel DateJusts are also going to be hard to come by. The question that we must ask ourselves - if we were a Rolex AD owner/manager, would we give these 'assets' out easily? That's not smart business. We will, across all Rolex models/variants, continue to see a big cooling off on grey & secondary market pricing.

      @@jrgb9945 Rolex new facilities will be more about taking the product to higher levels in terms of quality and innovation. @@jrgb9945Hey JR, while I love your positive thinking and while I wish this secondary factory would help provide all these desirable models to all watch enthusiasts, unfortunately that secondary factory will only satiate probably an additional 5% of the demand. ADs will continue to control the narrative and distribution. Think of it this way. Let's say the ADs supply magically doubled for every single one of tgeir shipments they receive for 2024 starting tomorrow. What they'll start to do is just hoard double what they were hoarding in their back inventory. They know damn well its not in their best sales interest to just start giving these out to new customers with no spend or ourchase history. So they'll continue playing their "we havent received any submariners, GMTs, explorer 2s, etc for a while" 🤷‍♂️ while they are now hoarding twice the amount in the back. They will then continue their back door deals with dealers so they get their additional premiums and continue to reward only new customers that start a purchase history with non Rolex brands first. This unfortunately will never change anymore unless something insanely drastic happened (short of like how France forced Rolex so start offering online sales of their CPO program). But yeah man, it sucks and i really hope im wrong but i just dont see it changing because its of no benefit to the AD.
