@@gem3008 That’s possible. I do know that 2K has some weirdness when it comes to streaming in general. I don’t think they even allow you to stream 2K games directly from the Xbox so they may have some black magic behind the companion app as well.
Hey man! Great tutorial, works perfecto. Just one question, I don’t get the game/party chat audio in the stream. I have my headset plugged in to my controller but I can’t hear it on stream, it only picks up sounds close to my laptop because of the mic haha. Hope you have an idea
With the headset on the controller there will be no audio going to the PC. Best bet is to use the headset on the pc itself. That way you have full control of the audio. One caveat is that you will not be able to record/capture game chat, only party chat. It's a drawback but we have to work with what we have. You'll need to check your windows audio settings to make sure your output and mic devices are set to the headset as well, and also in OBS so that your headset mic is the mic you are broadcasting with.
@@ChowlbPlays Appreciate you coming back to me a lot man, really! Allright, I get it, but how do you handle it if you're in a party with friends who are on their xbox too? Is there a way to take the whole party chat, including mine and his to the stream?
Hey, quick question. Am I able to both stream my OBS to Twitch but also record it at the same time so I can put it on TH-cam? Or can I only do one at a time?
Most certainly you can. However it can be a little taxing on the pc to do both but if you have the means all you’ll need to do is go to your obs settings and set up your options in the recording tab. An alternative is to let twitch save your broadcast. Then you have like 14 days to download it and then you can edit or upload to TH-cam. I’ve got a quick video on how to set your twitch account to auto save here if you’re interested: th-cam.com/video/DxnwUoRcuwg/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the easy tutorial! Unfortunately, whenever I tried to stream on twitch with OBS, I was faced with a very low bitrate. I have incredibly good wifi and I'm hard wired. Is there a fix for this?
What is your internet UPLOAD speed? Your service provider should give you two speeds, a download speed and an upload speed. Also what bitrate did OBS give you?
@@Martini2k twitch max bitrate is 6000. I would try a 900p stream and set your bitrate to around 4000 or 4500. That should keep your viewers from buffering when trying to watch unless you’re affiliate and they have quality options.
Do you know a way to add music to your xbox twitch streams without obs, capture card, or headphone splitter? I have been looking for weeks, would be great if I could figure it out!
You might could try the Spotify app if you’re streaming straight from the Xbox. However, I’m a little hesitant because of the copyright strikes going on for live streams these days. But other than OBS I’m not aware of any way to inject music into the stream. You might could see if there is a twitch extension that allows you to play music but again I haven’t done any research in that area.
This doesn't work on my Series X, it says that streaming is not allowed. Microsoft say this isn't currently possible either and you can only stream to an ioS or Android device. Any ideas?

@@rafaelfosteris9771 I just confirmed you can use the actual Xbox app for streaming the series x/s to your pc. Not the console companion. But the actual Xbox app. The obs/window capture part will be the same.
Heck yea! Also as an update the official Xbox app on windows added streaming from the console as well! So you can use that instead of the companion app
looks like all the functionality was moved to the official xbox app on windows. you no longer need the console companion. Streaming works the exact same way in the official xbox app.
I can't really think of a way off the top of my head, since technically your desktop audio is also playing the audio from the companion app. There might be a software that can redirect programs to output audio to other devices and then set those devices up separately in OBS, but I haven't researched any type of solution.
Such an awesome video. thanks Mate. Subscribing now. Jut wanna clarify though, doing this will then mean we have seperate game audio and party chat files? Going straight from the twitch app at the moment and it bundles it all in one so no way to adjust levels
NO idea why this went to my "held for review comments', I apologize for the late reply. This will still have everything bundled. There's no real way to separate party and game audio since it's all coming from the same device. Even with a capture card the party chat is sent over along with the game audio. The only real way to separate it out would be to use something like discord where you can direct the audio there to a separate OBS channel .

Thank you for this, im gonna try when I get home. I use a Turtle Beach Stealth 600 for my xbox one. Is there a possibility I could use that as a mic for my OBS and also be able to hear my xbox sounds?
You’ll need to plug the headset into the pc for it to work as the mic for OBS. The remote play session doesn’t send your mic audio across the remote play to the pc. But the pc will send your mic audio back to the Xbox.
Have you tried the other capture type? If you’re on game capture try window or display capture. I’ve also noticed issues if the remote play window is in the background.
I play NCAA 14. But the sound does not go to obs unless it's heard through my microphone only. So instead of coming from rv straight to obs it has to go to mic then obs then Facebook. It's something I've been battling for months
This works super well for me!! thank you, one question tho, i have a wireless headset (xbox to headset) , is there a way i can have My party chat audio be recorded through obs without having to connect my headset to my pc?
That depends on what chat you're referring to. Game Chat does not come over from the console companion, due to privacy concerns of recording strangers, microsoft does not allow that through their app. Party chat should come through if you're hooked up correctly and have your headset/mic set correctly in the Console Companion and in OBS. You will need the controller plugged into the pc or the headset plugged into the PC for that to work correctly.
good video dude! So a mic and party chat comes thru to stream if your using a headset on the xbox? Also, how do you talk to chat without your teammates hearing it? Is there a way without getting a separate mic and streamdeck? 60 year old gamer and currently just stream on Twitch through the Xbox. Thanks for any help you can give me!
I believe the headset needs to be connected to the PC for the audio to work properly. As of now it's all or nothing, your team will hear you when you talk to chat, without an extra mic dedicated to just Stream chat.

Hey chowlb, I have the screen recording down and the audio but for some reason I cannot hear my mic through the audio. I am using my mic on Xbox through my controller. Do I have to use a mic on my pc or how does that work? Thanks, fitz
You nailed it. The mic needs to be on the pc. The Xbox doesn’t send your mic audio from the xbox to your pc so you need to either use a separate mic or use your xbox headset on the pc. The remote play will however send mic audio FROM the pc to the xbox.
Thank you this is exactly what I needed to know. However, I know you had said that twitch is a separate can of worms, but my question is once you are streaming this I would think that I need to enable a setting in twitch to recognize the OBS live streaming on my PC
All you do is go to obs settings, streaming, and link your twitch account. Obs sends the stream to twitch and they send it to your channel as long as it’s linked in obs. It used to be a ‘stream key’ that identified your stream but now obs has made it simple to just link your account in obs.
Very Helpful. I have one question though. When you are streaming from Xbox to pc, can anyone watch you while Xbox is streamed to pc? I want to use this to record gameplay rather then stream? Thanks :)
I haven’t read all the comments yet. From what I’ve noticed. Capturing party chat is a breeze. With or without capture card. It’s game chat…when I soloQ that I want to capture. My team mates. Any solution there?.
not really a way around that without spending a little bit of money. The only way (even with a capture card) is to use something like the elgato chat link cable. I think it's around 10$ it's essentially an audio splitter that connects to your controller and sends the audio to your headset and the cable at the same time. You plug the other end into the PC line in and use that as an audio source in OBS. I've used it with my capture card all the time, but never with the remote play, although it seems pretty straight forward. you would just mute the remote play in OBS and you would need to go into advanced audio properties and play with the sound delay on the chat link audio source to sync with the video.
@@ChowlbPlays yeah I just got the chat link cable. Just haven’t figured it out how to split sound effectively yet. I have a cheap capture card too. Not an elgato. The 4K HDMI 3.0 ones. It has headphone and mic jacks separately. Unlike elgato with the single port
@@crisanler6256 for the chat link you just plug it into your controller, then one end into your headset, adn the other into a line in on the computer, or if you have a line in on the capture card. If you used the line in on the computer, you'll just go into OBS and add an audio source, the audio source you add will be the computers line in. that should be the chat link sound. just remember to mute your capture card since it will have audio from the hdmi. you might also be able to go to the properties in the capture card source and do custom audio device as well. i thin it's at the bottom of the capture card properties. I'm not sure what cap card you ahve, so i can't really tell you how to use the catpure card software you have.
@@ChowlbPlays mostly use party chat thanks so much your video helped a lot like a lot I've been fiddling with plug-ins and a capture card and couldn't perfect the audio with this it makes it ten times easier
where is your headset plugged in? the headset needs to be in the computer, the remote play session will transfer your voice back to the xbox, but the xbox doesn't send your mic back to the pc. so the mic needs to be local on the PC so that OBS can use it as the primary mic. Your party chat (but NOT game chat) will do the same. The remote session will send the party audio to the PC and then to the headset plugged into the PC, but if your headset is plugged into the controller, then it's being hijacked by the headset in the controller before it ever gets to the PC.
This was very Helpful. I have 1 question. I am trying to record my Xbox screen and party chat audio. But when recording my screen through OBS on PC it doesnt record my party audio (headset plugged into controller) any way I can record the screen and the audio from my Xbox? Any help is appreciated!
Audio is the most complicated thing about streaming. If you plug headphones into your pc can you hear the audio from the Xbox app? If so check your obs audio settings and make sure the desktop audio is set to the same thing. I also believe if you have your headphones in your controller, then it hijacks your party audio. Try the headphones on the pc and see what that does.
@@ChowlbPlays Thanks for your help. i think i found a way around. I will join my xbox party from my PC then obs record it, as the audio is on my pc (party audio) it should record. Thanks for youyr help, i appreciate the video

@@og_kushwhacked That seems like your bottleneck to me. That's a fairly lower end pc in terms of recording and/or streaming. Pls help.
That's because the headset is on the controller which is hijacking your mic. The xbox doesnt route the mic audio to the PC over console companion, you will need your headset plugged into the PC or you will need a separate mic connected to the PC for stream chat.
Is the pc using companion app wireless or is the Xbox wireless? Wireless is not great for anything streaming. It’s best if you can hardwire both the pc and the Xbox.
One of the best videos addressing how to do it! is there any way to see the chat on the laptop whilst streaming the gameplay or is it easier to look at chat on the mobile twitch?
So there’s no way to see the chat if you have the Xbox companion maximized. But if you have a second monitor you can put your OBS on the second screen and there’s actually a twitch chat dockable window for obs. If you don’t have two monitors then the mobile app is probably the best bet. And thank you for the awesome comment!!
With a Xbox update. The “transition” option setting doesn’t works any more so the group chat goes only through my control to the headset. Does this works to have warzone group chat in the stream ?

Hey! This tutorial is for the xbox one, however I don't believe there is an xbox app for the Mac. If you're part of game pass ultimate and have the ability to do cloud gaming, you can always use a browser on the mac to play the games and window capture the browser for streaming. but as far as a native xbox app, i don't think that's a possibility.

When your dongle is plugged into the pc do you hear regular pc audio? You’ll need to double check your windows audio settings to make sure the output is set to your headset.
So how do I get the audio that comes from other players to come through the Xbox Console app yeah we open up to do the OBS and how do I get my voice comes is there and set of the computer or laptop Mic?
Game chat does not come through the app unfortunately. Party chat will come through though. As far as your voice, you'll need the headset of the mic plugged in to the PC and then check your windows sound settings for input devices, make sure it's set to the headset/mic you're using, and then check OBS audio settings and make sure the mic1 is set to the same thing as windows.

Are you using window or game capture? Have you tried the other? And when you use your elgato do you have the 4K Elgato software installed as well? if so, does it show up there in that application?

@@ben10pop the reason i asked about the 4k software, is it has the drivers for the elgato devices. It needs to be installed but doesnt have to be running. You mean when you add the game capture window? Or when you start the stream? Did you start the remote play first before obs? It needs to be running first. Also turn off windows game bar in your windows settings and make sure you have all the windows updates and gpu updates you can find.
Hopefully you see this! And you probably already explained this. But I have my mic hooked up to my pc and it’s not working, it’s picking up desktop sound no problem. And also if I was to plug my headphones into the pc and it works will my friends be able to hear me though Xbox chat or do I need to use discord?
The mic should be plugged into the PC. The remote play session will send the mic audio over to the xbox. You'll need to check your windows settings to make sure the input is set to the headset. In OBS you'll need to go to the audio settings and make sure the MIC input is also set to the headset.

Ditto here. Got my gaming headset chat mic to work on my controller but not the game audio. Ended up using a regular headphone no mic with the controller.
@@gem3008 so you got it sorted out using no mic headphones for the controller? And the mic is plugged into the pc?
@@ChowlbPlays I'm thinking the new gaming headset i got may work better on the OBS environment setup. It's strange since it works on Call of Duty fine on my other XBOX One but not on my 2K21 PGA game which is on an Xbox One S. Could it be the golf game's chat feature is not able to be enabled but only through Twitch/OBS? Will be testing on Thursday. Still need to install OBS, etc.

@@ChowlbPlays Upload speed is around 30-35 and download is 850-950gb
@@ChowlbPlays Also, OBS recommends 6500 bitrate.

Great video. quick question is there anyway you can separate your game audio from desktop audio when streaming this way?

You’ll need to plug the headset into the pc for it to work as the mic for OBS. The remote play session doesn’t send your mic audio across the remote play to the pc. But the pc will send your mic audio back to the Xbox.
A High quality explanation 👍

for me!! thank you, one question tho, i have a wireless headset (xbox to headset) , is there a way i can have My party chat audio be recorded through obs without having to connect my headset to my pc?
I don't believe there is unfortunately, since the headset will pretty much hijack the audio signal and keep the party audio from routing to the PC.
Do you have a fix for chat not coming thru … ?
That depends on what chat you're referring to. Game Chat does not come over from the console companion, due to privacy concerns of recording strangers, microsoft does not allow that through their app. Party chat should come through if you're hooked up correctly and have your headset/mic set correctly in the Console Companion and in OBS. You will need the controller plugged into the pc or the headset plugged into the PC for that to work correctly.

This video helped me tremendously man thank you so much for this!!!!!

@@ChowlbPlays Thanks again. Glad to know it's a simple setting. Probably good I test it first with the bandwidth payload hops on my wifi setup.

The only issue I have is that I can’t hear party chat or my voice when I’m streaming why is that?
where is your headset plugged in? the headset needs to be in the computer, the remote play session will transfer your voice back to the xbox, but the xbox doesn't send your mic back to the pc. so the mic needs to be local on the PC so that OBS can use it as the primary mic. Your party chat (but NOT game chat) will do the same. The remote session will send the party audio to the PC and then to the headset plugged into the PC, but if your headset is plugged into the controller, then it's being hijacked by the headset in the controller before it ever gets to the PC.

So how do I get the audio that comes from other players to come through the Xbox Console app yeah we open up to do the OBS and how do I get my voice comes is there and set of the computer or laptop Mic?
Game chat does not come through the app unfortunately. Party chat will come through though. As far as your voice, you'll need the headset of the mic plugged in to the PC and then check your windows sound settings for input devices, make sure it's set to the headset/mic you're using, and then check OBS audio settings and make sure the mic1 is set to the same thing as windows.
been playing with this for days, but OBS only shows a black screen when selecting console companion, and the same even when i connect my elgato. I have remade the source time and time again and still nothing. no help anywhere online, i have no idea what is going wrong. any ideas?
Are you using window or game capture? Have you tried the other? And when you use your elgato do you have the 4K Elgato software installed as well? if so, does it show up there in that application?
Appreciate the response, I have tried both and though the elgato shows up, only shows black screen. Tried elgato software but laptop can barely handle it
@@ben10pop the reason i asked about the 4k software, is it has the drivers for the elgato devices. It needs to be installed but doesnt have to be running. The elgato is showing under the video devices correct?
you could also try to deactivate and reactivate the elgato under the source settings. There's a little button there to do that.
Awesome video! Everything I stream to obs its just a black screen. Any way to fix that?
You mean when you add the game capture window? Or when you start the stream? Did you start the remote play first before obs? It needs to be running first. Also turn off windows game bar in your windows settings and make sure you have all the windows updates and gpu updates you can find.
@@ChowlbPlays when I add it to obs
@@CYRNOOO and you have remote play started first. Before even opening obs?
Hopefully you see this! And you probably already explained this. But I have my mic hooked up to my pc and it’s not working, it’s picking up desktop sound no problem. And also if I was to plug my headphones into the pc and it works will my friends be able to hear me though Xbox chat or do I need to use discord?
The mic should be plugged into the PC. The remote play session will send the mic audio over to the xbox. You'll need to check your windows settings to make sure the input is set to the headset. In OBS you'll need to go to the audio settings and make sure the MIC input is also set to the headset.
@@ChowlbPlays ok I think I got it working. I’m also wandering cause I’m using this to record video, where does the video file go
@@pepperfatale3295 in your settings for recording there is a file path. I think the default is your videos folder on windows.
damn your camera quality is great
you don't know how much that means to me, i've spent a lot of time (and money) and to hear that it's appreciated really makes my day. thanks!
@@ChowlbPlays for sure man! I get it! ive spent over 900 bucks to stream on twitch haha and havent even got 50 subs so I get it man! you are doing a great job! awesome quality! keep up the good work!
@@NewSunGambit it’ll come! Consistency is key with streaming. I know I’ve spent way more than I’d ever make doing any of this. But it’s a passion and I think that’s ok hah
Will this work in 2024
Absolutely! The big difference is you use the official Xbox app on windows and not the companion app. The streaming button is on the top right after you log into the Xbox app.
But can you hear your game chat on the stream is the real question. I NEED ANSWER'S
game chat, nope. Game chat and party chat are two of the most complicated things known to man and every streamer. The real ONLY reliable way to get game chat to a stream is using a capture card and something like the Elgato Chat Link cable. The companion app will send party chat if configured correctly, but it does not do game chat.
Hey, for some reason, the video has the top and left parts shrunk down to have just a black screen. Why is that?
You mean in obs? Did you happen to minimize the window? It can be in the background but not minimized. Also have you tried to right click on the source and do set to canvas size?
@@ChowlbPlays Oh yeah, I meant to say it was OBS. I don't think I minimized the window, every time I start streaming, I make the Xbox Console Companion full screen. I will try to set to canvas size and get back to you though. All I've figured out is how to enlarge the preview screen so that there's no black on the top and left, but that doesn't seem to carry over to the program window.
@@ChowlbPlays Hey, nevermind. Apparently it sorted itself out.
@@JoelKellenProductions oh fantastic! i love magic
@@ChowlbPlays Haha, yeah. Hey, does Xbox Game Bar do anything? I was playing around with it, and I noticed that the video is way better than OBS, but it doesn't seem to pick up audio from the computer. Or is that part of different settings?
