    Does your exterior door need a bit of updating?
    Hi, I'm Jeff with Home Repair Tutor and this video is gonna show you how to install a yale digital door lock. Technology is pretty darn amazing. Especially these days when you don't need a key anymore to open your door, just your hand.
    Sweet!!!
    The digital door lock in this video is a bit different. You can program up to 25 different codes. So you could have one for yourself, your kiddos, or your contractor.
    And the best part is you can delete your contractor's pin code when they're done with their project.
    I really like the keypad because my kids don't have to worry about losing a key.
    Installation of the yale deadbolt door lock is simple. You'll need to remove your old deadbolt using a screw driver or drill.
    The digital lock comes with a front (keypad), back, and deadbolt mechanism. Before you do anything insert the back of the deadbolt into the locking mechanism. Check that the deadbolt works and moves in/out smoothly.
    You'll then want to set the deadbolt to 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches. This length depends on your door's current configuration.
    For all the details on this particular Yale door lock check out my video

    great stuff! Thanks for this video Jeff. I'm planning to have this one soon. One question though, do the numbers in the key pad scrambles so that other people cant memorize the stroke pattern when you punch in your pin?

      +bgkz25 they don't scramble as you enter the code but do only show up briefly. I like this touchless setup because it's a cleaner look.

    Thank you for your how to video. I watched your video once and was able to install mine without looking at the manual. Question for you: what is the privacy button setting about?

      If you are inside and don't want ANYONE entering your house that has a code, just press the privacy button.

    Thanks Jeff. Your video is very good. I have a question if you don't mind as I am contemplating buying a Yale model. Do you wonder what would you do if the electronic part of the lock fails ? If batteries die you have this great option of using a 9 V battery to open the door , but what if the electronic part that controls the touchpad fails ? From that perspective, would one be safer to buy the model that has both the key and the touchpad possibilities ? Thanks

      This is a great question wintertrader - fortunately we have more than one way of getting into our home. But if this is the only door then I do agree with getting a model with both the key and touchpad. This would be the prudent decision for that situation. Thanks for asking your question :D

      I think you remove and twist the piece of steel going through the lock, so instead of at facing 45° to the left for examples it should be facing 45° to the right

    OK, question: what happens if the motor/mechanism that retracts the bolt, has a mechanical failure? Motors don't last forever, right? This does not have an emergency physical unlock key?

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CH H that's a possibility, there are emergency contacts on the bottom for a 9V battery. I'd recommend having a second lock with a key if you're concerned 😳

    • @thehspace
      @thehspace 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeff Patterson The emergency 9V won't help if the motor is mechanically dead after years. Seems like this is a drawback of digital locks without mechanical key override

    I sometime forget to pull out my keys before getting to the door. It's a crazy unorganized purse. Sometimes I forget to leave a light on. I LOVE THE IDEA OF NO KEYS NECESSARY.

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carol Ann Valentino it really is awesome to have no keys. My kids love the lock as well. And I'm already thinking of adding some to my rental homes.

  • @savedfaves
    @savedfaves 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fact that you must palm the lock to lock the door is very annoying. I'd want it to lock automatically. Especially considering you cannot lose your key. Surely there must be an auto lock master setting, right?

    what to do if battery die?

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      akam0707 great question, you can hookup a 9V batter to the bottom of the lock and this powers it in the event the battery dies :D

    UPDATE your video! You MISSED a 3rd screw that is underneath the deadbolt lock knob. There are 2 screws in the battery compartment and 1 at the bottom of the unit.
