@@koly318 FE4 does have writing like Fates at times. You don't need to be hypocritical to bash Fates to acknowledge where FE4 is flawed Sigurd/Deirdre fall in love instantly, Romeo and Juliet style. No support conversations to build up, just instantly he sees her and loves her. And Manfroy isn't much better than Iago: even if Loptyr people were persecuted, there's no good Loptyr cult member in Genealogy to sympathize with and learn from. It's just Manfroy and the cult trying to end the world and feed children to a dark God.
Fun fact: the summoning skill isn't bound to the Necromancer class, but to Lyon himself. If you use cheats to make someone else a Necromancer, they won't be able to summon.
Iirc Summon is linked to Knoll and Ewan too, and only shows up if they're Summoners (or Necromancers). If you change Lyon's class to anything else besides Summoner, he won't be able to summon.
Was that from personal testing? I used Codebreaker a while back on VBA and managed to get Knoll to Summon just fine as a Necromancer(because Lyon's sprite model looks similar to how Knoll looks overall with the purple hair and stuff to not make it look out of place, and by all accounts he should have similar skills in the Dark Arts as a Royal Mage, just not have Formortiis' soul). Never had issues with that as far as I can recall.
@@C20521 With Ally switch just straight up breaks the game. With a lot of weird things getting it if you get caught off guard with it the game is over.

I feel like it might have been important to mention that the final boss of this game will always target the summoned unit. Summoner trivializes SS more than grind tower.

@@h0m3st4r mages knights and valkys are honestly the worse mages in the game, its why L archel is honestly a shitty unit, cause unlike natasha/artur/moulder who can become one shotting demon nightmares, larchel is just stuck with a horse thats not as good as paladins and shitty offense stats lol Which is such a shame for is honestly the best personality wise.
The editing on this video was amazing, goof job deFritos. I think it's a shame that fe8 is so easy because there are less situations where a phantom is needed/useful. Sophia could be a decent unit if she had the ability to become a summoner in fe6.

Summoners are probably the single coolest thing in FE8 to me. It's on my list of cool stuff I wish they'd bring back in a future game, along with Crossbows and bonus EXP. Yes, my favorite game is FE10, how could you tell?
Well, consider me motivated to give Sacred Stones another shot with an emphasis on the Summoners! One other interesting thing about Lyon, unless my memory is lying to me again, is that he has a Hammerne staff, giving you two. This allows you to infinitely repair weapons and the other staff, assuming they work on each other.
I would love to see a video of you looking at the usefulness of this kind of effect in Path of Radiance and Gaiden/Echoes with Tanith and the clerics (but mainly Genny) I've seen that you and BisMix have mixed opinions about Genny's summoning and I would like to see your final thoughts on after going for the Blitzkrieg achievement, and there are plenty of situations, especially in Maniac, where Reinforce makes some chapters much easier that I would love to see you analyze.

An incredible video with absolutely superb editing and information to match! Your scripted content is some of the best gameplay analysis inside the FE community and probably is better than most outside of it as well!
I remember I used Knoll in one of my very first playthroughs as a summoner and really liking it. Ever since then though, I always manage to get him killed by accident and the desert map is such a slog, I never restart for him. Might have to rethink that now. I didn't know phantoms always get attacked first for instance. That's insanely helpful.
Damn, I wish there was at least a minor quip about the Clerics from SoV's summon skills. Genny being able to summon like 5+ phantoms in 1 turn really early on is so broken that I'm not sure how people say Celica route is harder. Good video, Summoner class is awesome.
First off you cannot control the mist soldiers. This makes them more difficult to use. Second SoV infantry units have very low mov being only 4 till they reach some of their final classes. Combine that with heavy terrain and narrow corridors they can sometimes clog up your other units. Lastly Celica maps are brimming with desert and swamps that kill your movement so Genny's invoke soldiers are tedious to use. Although Slique and Tatiana have more solid ground and summon pegs knights and dread fighters making them very good
@@littleduck3686 You make some good points, but it's important to note that by far the most useful aspect of phantoms/mist soldiers are that they distract the enemy on enemy phase, protecting your weaker units while doing chip damage. You don't really want them to be all powerful, because then they're just stealing exp from other units
I'm glad you have made a video about this. I have always gone with summoners in Sacred Stone. Just having a unit that can tank an attack to save anyone of your units was such a nice thing to have, especially if you make the occasional mistake here and there.
In my FE8 Randomizer run I specifically never lost a unit in the Demon King fight because of summons, it was probably dumb luck but I'm glad someone showcases how useful these guys are. If you're wondering, my summoner was Garcia.
First... This Video is beautiful. From the funny intro up to 7:10 every animation looks so good I don't know how I should express it otherwise. Was going to say that at 1:26 you ERRORNIOUSLY say "Any successful attack will destroy a phantom" BUT if a phantom is stading on a gate or throne and an enemy with 0 str and a slim sword attacks the phantom will not be destroyed due to terrain bonuses (+3 defense). But phantoms are fliers which dont get terrain bonuses. So imma just post for the algo to pick up the vid. good vid
When I got scared stones as a kid when it came out, I was eager to try the new classes and I ended up going the 2 summoner route you recommend. It was a lot of fun to have 2 phantoms on the field at all times, the only drawback at all was if they accidentally killed stuff with loot I couldn't trade it back, and I remember being frustrated as a kid when that would happen. Great video, and i really loved the editing, the guy you hired did a fantastic job playing around with the 2D Sprite work and I hope to see more of defritos work on your channel in the future!
The phantom drop is based on a sequential scan of the map that starts in the top left corner and travels right along the grid, then resets to the farthest left point based on the grid overflow. So it seems like its prioritizing up-left-right-down, and in practice generally is, but you can game it a bit.

@@vanjagalovic3621 Replicas share health with their original summoner so if 1 dies so does the other, besides they come rather late and on a class that's otherwise worse than it's counterparts. Invoke is a cool spell in echoes on the units that get it and it also breaks AI but then again it's Echoes and that game does a lot of weird things.

I hope we see a more balanced version of the summoner in future games, it's a very fun class in concept and gives a nice variety from current classes.
Didn't we have a similar class in Fates that creates replicas? Also Genny can also summon in Echoes
@@vanjagalovic3621 Replicas share health with their original summoner so if 1 dies so does the other, besides they come rather late and on a class that's otherwise worse than it's counterparts. Invoke is a cool spell in echoes on the units that get it and it also breaks AI but then again it's Echoes and that game does a lot of weird things.
