Well I almost softlock my silver snow maddening run. I only use BE girls and the other units are from other house. Yeah I struggling that map with only Byleth petra bernie dorothea and lvl 24 seteth and lvl 5 BE boys. I wanna cry but somehow I managed to clear it with everyone alive. 5-7 try with 6 divine pulse each tries.
The first time I played that chapter, most of my units aside from Dimitri and Byleth was underleveled-and Intermediate classes. Somehow, with luck and strategic use of the shields, gambits and magic staves, I managed to beat it on my first try.
Let's try to pick ourselves out of some of these softlocks! Mekkah mentioned in chapter 13 that you can escape a softlock by visiting the village for a Mine and using it to execute the control enemy glitch (CEG). But a Mine isn't the only way to perform the CEG, and Mekkah didn't fully explore some of the alternatives. The most well known ways to execute the CEG involve, obviously, the Mine and the Torch staff in fog of war chapters. But there are other ways to trigger the CEG as well. Broken walls: Tiles that are broken walls can trigger CEG when an enemy ends their movement on them. The big issue is breaking down the wall to begin with since you'll have no weapons. Here are the remaining maps with breakable walls: - Chapter 20: There are multiple fighter mage reinforcements that willingly break down walls, so you just have to get an enemy to end their turn on one and execute the CEG. Softlock broken. - Chapter 23x: You don't start with any weapons and I don't think that any enemies will break down the walls. Softlock stays. Corner tile: For whatever reason, the top left corner tile in every map is a tile that can trigger CEG. Some maps have untraversable tiles in the top left corner, but many don't, although the issue then would be somehow getting an enemy to move there. (EDIT: Apparently this also requires some tile change to occur somewhere on the map, so I had to prune a couple of entries. Sorry.) - Chapter 19xx: The top left corner is in a 1 tile wide dead end, but I think it MAY be possible to lure enemy with 2-range (like a mage) around there and lure him to that corner by placing a unit across the wall, to the left to the top left treasure chest. - Chapter 24: Lloyd's version has a large area of flier traversable peaks in the top left. Linus's version has a village, which may be doable if there are enough wyverns. - Chapter 25: The top left tile is freely traversable by foot units, but the only tile change that I can identify is visiting the village. - Chapter 27: Kenneth's version has a top left tile with traversable floor. Jerme's version, on the other hand, is filled with untraversable peaks. - Chapter 28: The top left tile is floor, but there's no easy way to get there without unlocking a door that you don't have keys for. - Chapter 28x: You start fairly close to the top left corner, and there aren't even enemies or doors in the way. - Chapter 29: If you can somehow get your units all the way to the top left corner of the map without getting totally surrounded, CEG should be feasible here too. - Chapter 32: If you can get your units to the top left corner, CEG appears feasible, but only if visiting ruins incurs a tile change (or you can let one be destroyed). Finally, in general, I think that some of the softlocks that ended with "you get surrounded too quickly" might be surmountable by splitting apart the lords and manipulating enemies to move in ways that allows one lord to sneak by. But obviously I haven't experimented with it.
"Finally, in general, I think that some of the softlocks that ended with "you get surrounded too quickly" might be surmountable by splitting apart the lords and manipulating enemies to move in ways that allows one lord to sneak by. Dragon's Gate and Whereabouts Unknown I haven't tried as hard but they are also filled with tight hallways so I figured it'd be too hard. It only takes 4 1-range enemies to surround a character for them to be permanently lost.

@@JosephHk743 Sadly enough, Awakening is impossible to Soft-Lock thanks to all the advantages offered in the overworld and the ability to void any stage.
The only softlock I knew about beforehand is the one from that one youtube video on Lyn Mode Normal where if you somehow manage to get everyone except for Lyn killed, it's literally impossible to protect Natalie because the tutorial forces lyn to talk to Dorcas.
To be fair, it's not the type of softlock Mekkah is looking for lol, cause you can just reset the chapter. Mekkah is looking for softlocks that lock you from the start of the chapter
@@Genra Technically it *is* the kind of softlock that Mekkah is looking for since you'd just have to set it up in the chapter beforehand, kill off all of your other units, beat the chapter, and save. That way the game starts in Chapter 3 with just Lyn.
A year late, I know. I picked this softlock. You can break the tutorial with a glitch. Normally, you'll select a character or bring up a menu, and the tutorial stops the b button from exiting the menu, forcing you to complete the action the game wants. However, if you press A+B+start+up+select (I'll call this semi-soft-reset), it will try to soft reset, fail, but will register the b press and back one stage out of the menu. Then you can often fulfill tutorial conditions with the wrong unit selected, and once that is clear, you can move your character freely. There is one extra layer of complexity - the game will freeze if a certain menu is expected to appear, but can't, e.g. the tutorial progresses to control Dorcas before he is recruited, or you move Lyn to a space where she can't talk to Dorcas, or Dorcas expects to attack with a hand axe when no enemy is in range. The full solution is: Turn 1: Select Lyn, semi-soft-reset, select red unit, select square it wants you to move Lyn, deselect red unit, select Lyn, it lets you move where you want so stay near the start (I moved down 1 space). Dorcas can't hit Lyn so instead he will move further into the building, placing him close enough to defend Natalie if you were to gain control of him. Turn 2: Select Lyn, select the square it wants you to move Lyn (which is out of range), now you can move Lyn anywhere within range, move adjacent to Dorcas and talk. Select Dorcas, move cursor onto one of the squares it wants you to move Dorcas, semi-soft-reset (make sure A is not the last button pressed, so it brings up the menu but the semi-soft-reset backs out), now you can move Dorcas anywhere, move in position to block Natalie and attack an enemy with the hand-axe. The game could have crashed in many ways if you did any part wrong, but from now you can just beat the level like normal.
There's an enemy control glitch not mentioned, which is the jankiest one - a tile change on the map (like visiting a village or opening a door) turns the upper-left corner tile into an "actor tile" (i.e. reset when an enemy steps on that tile to activate ECG). That means that there are a lot of maps that could potentially get someone out of a softlock situation. But most of them aren't really practical, save for one exception. List of chapters listed as softlockable where this glitch is possible. But in the majority of cases, the glitch isn't realistic to activate for the same reasons you listed. Ch25: Crazed Beast - Visit the right village then get an enemy to the corner tile. You already mentioned that the village is impossible to reach, so this doesn't matter. Ch27: Pale Flower of Darkness (Kenneth) - Open a door on the right then get an enemy to the corner tile. You get surrounded almost instantly in this map, so this also doesn't matter. Ch29: Cog of Destiny - Visit the warp village, then get an enemy to the corner tile. Again, this is effectively impossible for the same reasons you mentioned. Ch32: Victory or Death - Visit any village (not necessarily the Renault village), then get an enemy to the corner tile. You already went over how getting to Renault's village is basically impossible, and the two other villages get pillaged pretty quickly. Letting a village get destroyed might also work? But I haven't tested that. The one potential exception: Chapter 28x: Night of Farewells. This chapter automatically spawns / despawns bridges, which should activate the corner tile as an actor tile without the player having to do anything. And the actor tile is really close to your starting point. I can see this being practically possible to get out of any situation, especially with Jaffar around who can avoid getting killed. With this ECG, you can move Sonia off the throne, move all enemy units out of the way and disarm them, then the limited killing edge use isn't a problem. Awesome video, great video editing, and really cool concept! tl;dr - Ch28x may be not-softlockable because of a janky enemy control glitch.
@@LightKing1237 yeah like I said mine too. (Then again it's me and my luck with not the best units. My team in the last chapter was Athos, the three lords (Eliwood was dead weight and I would have preferred to take Lucius) Nino Erk Pent Canas Florina Nils Jaffar and Rebecca. Nino killed Nergal, and like 4 or 5 of the bosses in the chapter so she did half the work. I'm sorry for rambling about this I just really like talking about it. The point is: I used Rebecca and Nino and they were both awesome
Irma Trubura I never really understood why people called Rebecca bad My Rebecca crits everything thing that moves, never got hit and dodged the fire dragon. Rebeccas bad my ass
@@LightKing1237 she's an archer and archers aren't considered very good. Lack of melee range and stuff like that. Though when I use archers they turn out great. (Just look at how Rebecca capped strength even though she was promoted at like level 15 probably lower or how Ryan has 15 defense as a level 4 sniper who I promoted at level 12) bows are my personal second favorite weapon type after tomes and I usually try to have at least one bow user in the final chapter.
Will you try your luck? I trust you know who you goad; XXXXX, the best Fire Emblem player. If you don't have a true challenge for me, then you are only...wasting my time.
“How to softlock fire emblem” Easy, just play 3H, get to hunting by daybreak while keeping the house lord, Byleth, and all other in house units below level five.
This can be done extremely easily, either do your best to not get exp until you recruit Flayn or Cyril, or recruit someone from another house. On top of that, you could start as female Byleth and only use Sylvain until that chapter
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I clicked on the video like “Oh it'd be so cool if Pikasprey was in the video.” And then he was in the video! Thank you Mekkah! My day is automatically awesome now!
The editing on this video is insane. So many small little moments that got a laugh like the lancecopter, Aqua-Lyn, and Lyn going full Fist of the North Star. Was not expecting to laugh so hard when I tuned in. This is hilarious!
Something funny you could do in value of life is have a full army of magic units with base level lords still don’t think it would be possible since the berserkers in that map are too Tanky to be killed by the lords even if you sold tomes to get iron weapons and the Mages obviously can’t attack kashuna
I actually had a paragraph about this but scrapped it since the video was really long already. There is an area where your magic users can still attack the Berserkers (the starting area) and there's a droppable Swordslayer you could use to fight with Hector. However I think in the end there would be too many reinforcements to get through with the Swordslayer alone. Whether it's beatable probably depends on how many tomes you give the player.
You could consider some of the defend chapters a softlock. For example chapter 18 the ship map. While it is indeed possible to defend and survive, it is possible to set them in a situation where they will be unable to beat the following chapter as you don't receive anything from chapter 18, and chapter 19 is a softlock so they can't beat the game, just the single chapter.
Broke: making your way out of a soft lock Woke: waiting until the internal battery of the cartridge dies and erases everything on it and then beating the game. All jokes aside, awesome video! I’ve been looking forward to this one.
Ok so i accidentally Softlocked myself in FE12 I decided to use some cheats the Emulator provided me beaacuse why not In CH8 there is Hardin with a "droppable" darksphere and gravidus So what did i do? I traded Hardin's items to Roger and Recruited him with Caeda Yup i had a darksphere Fast forward to ch 20 and before I could do anything, the binding shield combines out of nowhere and notice the lack of darksphere BEFORE defeating Hardin- Also the Cheats i was using Deleted themslves after CH15 for some reason So yeah, i am Softlocked
Oh, let me tell you how I *accidentally* soft locked myself in Hard Mode Radiant Dawn! In the part where you separate all three armies, I was so confident in Ike that I left him with the weakest army, only to later remember that there is a defend chapter with Ena that turned out to be impossible (Without access unreasonable amounts or rng manipulation, at least.). I could not dream of routing the chapter, because most of the units simply weren't strong enough, and I also couldn't defend it in the standard way (by blocking all the entrances to the camp), because I didn't have enough competent units to block off 4 chokepoints, and one of the entrances would eventually fall, the camp would be stormed, my units surrounded and everything would go to shit real fast and I'd lose the defend point. And finally, even trying to cheese the chapter by parking Ike and my strongest units on the defense point didn't work either, because there was simply TOO MANY people coming, so even they couldn't handle it. Yes, I lost that save. Yes it was impossibly frustrating. Yes, it is one of the most remarkable experiences I've ever had in Fire Emblem.
On my first stupid maddening run, I did silver snow, had Byleth as enlightened one, Dorothea as dancer, Petra as assassin, Caspar as grappler, and I reclassed Seteth into brigand to get death blow, forgot to switch him back, didn’t keep a backup save in chapter 12, and softlocked myself
Couldnt you theoretically train up one of your lords in the last chapter so they would be able to get the dragon to have a hit less than 100, so you can rng abuse to win tho?
I just checked this since I was curious. The Fire Dragon has 186 hit, so you would need to train them far enough to have 87 or more avoid. The maximum avoid unpromoted lords can have from stats alone is 70 (20 spd + 30 luk), Hector could have like 78 since he has a higher speed cap when promoted. From there you could get the required avoid from B supports, since the 2 parts count as separate. Eli/Hector B gives 10, and Lyn/any lord gives 7.5. However, to circumvent this, you could do the thing I suggested for Four Fanged Offense (Linus version) and train the lords up in preparation to get bad level ups. If you get them to 20 while avoiding most speed/luck level ups, they wouldn't be able to get the requisite avoid. Of course even if they do get the right level ups you would have to dodge a metric crapton of Fire Dragon attacks at high rates over 90 displayed, and you also need enough attack power to actually kill the dragon before you run out of weapon uses. Haven't done the math on that one yet but if base Hector with Armads can do 3 then between str level ups and potential crits (if he can reach the crit treshold) he can probably get there.
That's a really interesting analysis we almost got there haha but there are a fair few barriers the game creator could put in place to circumvent it after all!
Even if you manage to get Hector from 1 to 20 in the final map he'll only have 64 avoid at most if he's gotten Spd/Luck on every level up. Armads reduces his AS from 24 to 21 and he can only get up to 22 Luck in 19 levels which results in 21 * 2 + 22 = 64 Avo. If you add supports on top of that he still only reaches 81 Avo which is too low to be able to dodge the fire dragon.
Don't forget that the legendary weapons are also limited in uses, so unless the lords deal 6 or more damage with their weapon, they can't finish off the dragon before their weapon breaks.
"please the game 5 times to understand my full backstory" ....typo aside, oooooooor I could just replay the final 2 chapters five times and get the same result
reminder that as i was messing around with the scraiza mod, i got myself softlocked at the dragon because i didnt bring any heal staves even though i had all my fliers at lvl 20 lol
Would love to see more of these with other games! I remember watching Pikasprey’s stuff a while back and it’s cool to see it with Fire Emblem. Radiant Dawn would be interesting, what with all the new units you get each chapter and the rescources that can be shared between each army. Geoffrey and his constantly respawning brave lance would be an issue for sure.
Well that's a surprise. I watch Pikasprey videos (including softlocks) whenever a new one comes out, but I didn't think it'd cross over to Fire Emblem. Nice.
Huh, interesting! I’d always assumed that the point of Athos was to ensure he could solo the final chapter even if the player completely and utterly failed. I didn’t realize the fire dragon would stop him!
Story wise, the fire dragon actually does injure Athos to the point he succumbs to his wounds. So maybe it is correct according to the story that athos cannot kill the fire dragon on his own

Now *this* is in the spirit of a Pikasprey video!
I'd love a follow up video with Mekkah trying out some of this stuff. To truly get that Pikasprey-vibe on lock.

You already went over how getting to Renault's village is basically impossible, and the two other villages get pillaged pretty quickly. Letting a village get destroyed might also work? But I haven't tested that.
The one potential exception:
Chapter 28x: Night of Farewells.
Nice. I knew about this glitch from watching your speedruns, nice breakdown and find of the possible loophole to get out of the softlock on 28x.
I'm such a huge fan of both Pikasprey and Mekkah, this was so unexpected and I love it!!
27:00 Have you ever heard the tragedy of Mekkah the Tactician?
2:30 leaving rebecca on your team is a bigger soft lock
I used Rebecca a lot and she capped strength for me. I know she's not good but eh
My Rebecca would beg to differ
@@LightKing1237 yeah like I said mine too. (Then again it's me and my luck with not the best units. My team in the last chapter was Athos, the three lords (Eliwood was dead weight and I would have preferred to take Lucius) Nino Erk Pent Canas Florina Nils Jaffar and Rebecca. Nino killed Nergal, and like 4 or 5 of the bosses in the chapter so she did half the work. I'm sorry for rambling about this I just really like talking about it. The point is: I used Rebecca and Nino and they were both awesome
Irma Trubura I never really understood why people called Rebecca bad
My Rebecca crits everything thing that moves, never got hit and dodged the fire dragon.
Ok the editor did a really good job on this one it looks really good

"INTERESTING MANEUVER"
Will you try your luck?
I trust you know who you goad; XXXXX, the best Fire Emblem player. If you don't have a true challenge for me, then you are only...wasting my time.
I stuttered when I saw Pikasprey, I even thought I clicked the wrong video but turns out i'm not crazy, but this is crazy, cheers to both!
“How to softlock fire emblem”
Easy, just play 3H, get to hunting by daybreak while keeping the house lord, Byleth, and all other in house units below level five.
And the best part
Have The characters get you that far are from a different house
They just don’t appear
chapter 6 also works
This can be done extremely easily, either do your best to not get exp until you recruit Flayn or Cyril, or recruit someone from another house. On top of that, you could start as female Byleth and only use Sylvain until that chapter
And this isn't even hard to unintentionally do to yourself lmao. good game design.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!
I clicked on the video like “Oh it'd be so cool if Pikasprey was in the video.” And then he was in the video!
Thank you Mekkah! My day is automatically awesome now!
I don't even need a softlock to halt progress in my game. My skills do that for me.
The editing just gets better everytime
The editing on this video is really good
27:16 That look when you realize _you_ were your own cocky friend all along!
FE7 is so bad can't believe every enemy has 0% hit against the lords at base
Woah, I was not expecting this!
Great research, knowledge, video. I love Pikasprey's videos, so that was cool too!
That intro was so good lol
Broke: making your way out of a soft lock
Woke: waiting until the internal battery of the cartridge dies and erases everything on it and then beating the game.
All jokes aside, awesome video! I’ve been looking forward to this one.
I love the editing in this, character portraits going on and out with some accompanying voice lines
When I saw the word soft lock I thought he was going to do a video like Pikaspary. I never saw this coming!
The editing in this is fantastic, good job Roy
Ok so i accidentally Softlocked myself in FE12
I decided to use some cheats the Emulator provided me beaacuse why not
In CH8 there is Hardin with a "droppable" darksphere and gravidus
So what did i do? I traded Hardin's items to Roger and Recruited him with Caeda
Yup i had a darksphere
Fast forward to ch 20 and before I could do anything, the binding shield combines out of nowhere and notice the lack of darksphere BEFORE defeating Hardin-
Also the Cheats i was using Deleted themslves after CH15 for some reason
So yeah, i am Softlocked
It was Roger's fault, he's the new Dark Emperor in your timeline

@@maltheopia stilll softlocked lol,it would be fun if mekkah saw this
*end of the video music* standing here, I realize you were just like me, trying to make history
Ooh, I'd be interested in seeing this be tackled in other games.
(or just modes other than Hector Hard)
It's small, but I appreciate having the music in the description.
Also Rune Factory music. Good taste
I don't think anyone would have expected this little crossover. Nice vid!
This is the greatest crossover in history and no one can convince me otherwise.
"let's trap that cocky friend"
"I was that that cocky friend"
Pikasprey! My good dude, I love his videos, what a nice collaboration :D Great video!
Mekkah blijf alsjeblieft van dit soort video’s maken je bent echt een hele goeie content maker keep up the great work !!
11:25 Ahh yes.... I can see it, the pinnacle of Mekkah's editing skills
I didn't edit this one actually!
@@Mekkkah Oh, I see. Well regardless congrats to you and your team, I can tell that there was a lot effort involved into creating this video ^^
This was amazing. Thank you for taking the time Mekkah!
Pikasprey should have came in at the end and said, "You get used to it" or something.
The video editing in this is GREAT! I'd love to see more softlocks too!
next level editing mekkah Super good Video!

man I love pikaspreys videos! and then a colap with Mekkah? Hell Yeah! Craziest Part? the recommendations got me here on their own
Couldnt you theoretically train up one of your lords in the last chapter so they would be able to get the dragon to have a hit less than 100, so you can rng abuse to win tho?
What if you: wanted to RNG abuse to get trough these softlock situations.
But FE7 said: “Haha, high enemy density go brrrrrrr!”
"please the game 5 times to understand my full backstory"
....typo aside, oooooooor I could just replay the final 2 chapters five times and get the same result
first of all, that's not much better, and second of all, "please" actually makes some sense in this context to the point where i doubt it was a typo.
Wasn't expecting this! Nice one Mekkah and Asprey ^^
Wow the editing here is amazing. great video!
Oh my god it's Pikasprey
reminder that as i was messing around with the scraiza mod, i got myself softlocked at the dragon because i didnt bring any heal staves even though i had all my fliers at lvl 20 lol
Your videos just keep getting better and better.
The most ambitious crossover to ever hit youtube
Find it kinda hilarious how the sheema softlock is over 2 years old
well technically you aren't wrong with that number but the softlock has existed since 2010 (people just didn't discover it until recently)
Deadass thought TH-cam had me click on the wrong video when Pikasprey showed up. Checked the title and user like three times.
So excited to see this collaboration!!
I didn’t realize the fire dragon would stop him!
they probably assumed you'd have healing of some sort
Story wise, the fire dragon actually does injure Athos to the point he succumbs to his wounds. So maybe it is correct according to the story that athos cannot kill the fire dragon on his own
@@randomuser5663 fair point!
