This video is 10 years old, but I can say as a muslim and a big fan of his work, I agree with most of what he said. It's a very interesting point of vue that I share. People think that religion is accepting something and don't even questionning, but I believe trying to understand it and find the truth is what make religion so special, so beautiful. And my reigion ask me to look at the world and understand it, to make my faith stronger.

"If you are a serial killer, be as good a serial killer as you can be." That's one bold personal religion ...

Wow! I had actually got a catholic vibe from the way he talks, but I didn't think I would be right at all, not even partly right. Although, it does make a lot of sense he had a catholic background.

Yeah his movies have a decent amount of religious symbolism. I definitely thought he’d be Catholic.

I figure because he's Mexican he'd be Catholic. However his views in this video actually are quite Protestant. He emphasised the need to be a good moral person rather than belonging to a church. Thats the a fundamental part of the shift from Catholicism to Protestantism

I love the heavy catholic symbolism incorporated into his movies. It’s very awe inspired and beautiful.🤩

C'mon, guys... We are watching a movie director (a great director, by the way), expressing his self... Religion, politics and football are always endless discussions. Let's just enjoy his masterwork =)

@300warrior300 The more I experience the world the more I realize that science cannot explain why we are here. Science does explain how life could have evolved from something else. We are told some chemicals and material matter just happened to be floating around Billions of years ago which stated the process. . But you cannot take that theory right back to the beginning. Nothing can come nothing, even with evolution. Without God there is nothing.

@Vortex42 Life itself is evidence of god presence. Look at the flowers and bees and the fields and the mountains, do you believe that it just appeared? Outside believe in God, no explanation of the origin of life will ever be possible. The main reason I am a Catholic is simply because that faith makes most sense of the world to me. Ultimately this life is a search for god and I respect all faiths as a search for truth.

@300warrior300 Believing in God is not giving up on knowledge or understanding, far from it. The search for God is embedded in every civilization since the beginning. I freely admit I am not 100% sure of God’s existence or of what degree the Catholic faith is accurate. But I believe there is more reason for it to right then for it to be wrong.

@Vortex42 @Vortex42 OK firstly, evidence is information which helps to form a judgement or understanding. I see Life, human consciousness, our ability to imagine, inspire and create as evidence of Purpose not of Chance.

@300warrior300 Central to believe in creation, is that God, a supreme force, is outside time and space. Eternal, without beginning or end. Without an act of creation. Time, space and matter makes no sense. Chance isn’t enough for me. That’s how I see it at the moment anyway, I may be wrong, I may be right.

Next, you asked if I believed "it all just appeared". This shows you have no knowledge of the Sciences... Any of them. Evolutionary Biology explains how we came to exist through a process of genetic change over Billions of Years. Geology explains the age and makeup of the Planet Earth. Astrophysics explains planetary formation, the birth of stars (which are the chemical furnaces), the structure of galaxies, and also the heritage of the Universe...
    Contd...

@300warrior300 You've simply confirmed everything I deduced. You're a faith-head (by no means a permenant affliction). You have your beliefs & don't care whether they're right or wrong - You bundle all Science under a label of "chance", which you're unwilling to accept - You'll just go on believing what you want to.
That's faith-induced ignorance. You're speaking from an unreasonable stance built on a plethora of logical fallacies. You CAN reject faith, and learn logic, though. Never too late.

He is clearly a smart man, and I respect his beliefs.
However, it is a shame that he abandoned Christ; the central teaching of Christianity is that we cannot qualify ourselves for salvation through 'works' (i.e. goodness) - only through belief and submission to the will of our Saviour.
On a side note, I'm stoked that 'Mountains of Madness' is going ahead! If anyone can do it justice, it is this director.

Being a good person has literally *nothing* to do with religion. Religion is simply believing in things without evidence. Whatever it happens to be (gods / alternative medicine / soul / life force - whatever)... If there is no *evidence* for it and you still believe in it, then you harbour irrational belief and are a religious person. I am Atheist and as Agnostic as it's possible to be without actively "believing" in no god(s). When you actively believe god(s) don't exist you are a Theist.

Finally, you describe yourself as "faithful" to catholicism. I couldn't care less what Iron-age myth you subscribe to. Whatever, collection of dogmatic, ignorant texts you ascribe your faith to, I have to inform you of something...
Faith is NOT a good thing. Faith is nothing more than acceptance-without-evidence. That is to say, that faith is willfull ignorance of the highest order.
All is not lost however... I suggest you read up on "Logic"... It's the only real cure!
