    Doc’s part in this movie was done entirely with unused archive recordings of Paul Newman from the first movie. I can’t think of a bigger tribute to both the actor and the character. I'm so glad we got to see him one last time.
    Overall, I love that the movie returns to its motorsport roots, the more realistic and mature ending, and its message about finding a new purpose in the field you love.

    Fun fact about them switching in the race, there are actually endurance races where during a pitstop they switch drivers since no one can race in a car for 6 hours straight. So multiple people can race using the same car/number and I love how they implemented that in this movie.

    • @4yinyang
      @4yinyang ปีที่แล้ว +65

      Indeed, I've seen people be upset that it's "unrealistic" to real life rules... my counterargument is that we never got an official list of the rules, whatever the movie says goes in that universe and indeed as you said switching drivers is sometimes okay, but in this universe the drivers ARE the cars, hence it necessitates switching out the car as well.

      Yeah people get confused coz in the movies the car and the racer is one unit so in order to swap the racer the car has to swap

      @@4yinyang I belive that in NASCAR you can change drivers, and finish the race in the same car (when Dale Earnhardt Jr. totalled his car he finished the race in Kyle Busch's car since Kyle thought his car was totalled and left the track). The thing about Lightning giving up the race: The whole point of his journey is not actually about becoming faster and overtaking the new and advanced cars. It's about him accepting that he physically cannot. This is a journey that an award-winning athlete who is now out of his prime has to realize, that physically they just can't win anymore, not against the young and in prime athletes, especially in this where technology is a factor. Him winning the race, when the whole movie is showing he isn't getting faster and cars, like Cruz, can so easily surpass him would just be unrealistic. They are showing that he has grown up and realizes there is more for him outside of his racing, and he is finally accepting it.

  • @TheMightyEmerald
    @TheMightyEmerald ปีที่แล้ว +181

    Lightning never retired from racing in the movie.
    He just became Cruz's crew chief for the rest of that season. He clearly said in the movie after the final race was over, that he wanted to keep racing, since he has a choice now.
    In "Cars on the Road", they run into Cruz, and he says to her that they're both racers.
    Lightning isn't retired, because HE decides when he's done. ❤️

    In NASCAR, which Cars is based on, you CAN swap drivers mid-race for various reasons. The regular driver may be late getting to the track, or may be sick/injured and have to stop and let someone else take over. Substitute drivers are usually ones that didn't qualify for the race but were still available at the track. IIRC, the points are split depending on how much of the race each driver completed.

    Overall, I consider this film to be an improvement over its predecessor (Cars 2) and a solid continuation to the first Cars film, because it delves with the theme of the important experience and mentorship from the wise and experienced and the conflict that not only Lightning McQueen experiences but also Cruz Ramírez as well. So thank you ANGELINA for the amazing reaction.
    Even it was nice to honor Paul Newman and his character of Doc Hudson in the film especially with the character of Smokey and his history with Doc, while at the same time being the catalyst/chief to Lightning and Cruz’s growth and development.

    • @KopsiDayzee22
      @KopsiDayzee22 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree that it's an improvement, but I'm still thankful for all 3 movies in the series. 1 is the movie where McQueen is still a rookie, and 3 is when he finishes his career. That's why I'm thankful for Cars 2, since it would be weird to show the beginning and end of Lightning's story without any movie in between.

    • @Spider-Fan006
      @Spider-Fan006 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KopsiDayzee22I also love how the story of the movie is McQueen accepting that he's getting old and he must accept it and by the end he does. But he will keep racing until he can't no more so he's not quite done yet so if Cars 4 ever comes out we'll most likely see McQueen retire from racing for good.

    Cars 3 is such an underrated film. It came out in the period of 'sequels that actually have adult morals' (with Toy Story 3 and Monsters: Uni, latter also very underrated). Pixar's always been good at doing that in general, but these were genuinely adult topics, especially this with its 'how to deal with not being the new thing anymore'.

  • @RitikBenipal
    @RitikBenipal ปีที่แล้ว +182

    Honestly, the only thing I would have changed about the climax is to first show McQueen actually doing a better job than everyone expected. Hell, maybe he even catches up to Storm before he heard Cruz getting yelled at. Either way, it would have been a good callback to the first movie, showing that he still has the ability to race but decided to forsake it to help someone else. Other than that, this is definitely a good conclusion to the series. And, of course, your commentary was priceless as always.

      i dont think its that, its more that he cant just beat them that easily like he could in his prime where he could just horsepower past, as its said by doc he is getting old but not out. So he would still be able to win but like doc he would have to use other methods to become first like drafting as u could see even tho cruz was more advance and faster she was using the old methods of drafting as well so i could see the ending where if he was caching up slowly to storm at the end being a thing i would say could up all the way but would be good to see him gain a lot of possessions before switch to cruz to show how far he has come, yes we all know he is old but there is no harm showing some of that hard work we got shown him doing with doc and we barely got to see him utilise it we saw cruise do it but not lightning as when he pitted he was still around 11-15th position would of been nice if he at least climbed to at least 6-7th position before passing to cruise and wouldent of really changed anything much way i see at the end i personally find lightings training was kind of useless as we dident see what he could of done yes he was getting old and way out of his prime however doesent mean we couldent see the hard work and training he did such as gaining quite a few places before switching over would of been good as would of shown the hard work they both had done together

    The substitute driver winning in place of someone else actually happened in real life in 2007 in the NASCAR Busch Series, now the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The Busch Series was racing in Milwaukee while the Cup Series was practicing in Sonoma, CA, and Rockwell Automation wanted Denny Hamlin to drive the car they were sponsoring there as he was their preferred driver and Milwaukee was near their headquarters. Because of the travel distance and some difficulty getting Hamlin a spot to land in his helicopter, the team had to start the race with Aric Almirola in the car. He started first and stayed there for 42 laps before dropping back. On lap 59, a caution came out and he was pulled for Hamlin, who finished the night in the car and won, but the credit for the win went to Almirola because the points and awards go to the driver who starts the race, not who relieves them.

    Here's the interesting story for this trilogy:
    - Cars: Everyone loved the original and it became an instant Disney Pixar classic.
    - Cars 2: Some people at Pixar thought it would be a "great idea" to take the characters in the first film (a well written, coming-of-age story) and turn it into an action film. It was jarring, disjointed, and overall a very "cheap" place to take this franchise. And it flopped miserably.
    - Cars 3: After the massive failure of the second movie, Pixar decided to WRITE OUT Cars 2 from the cars universe as if it didn’t even exist. The third movie actually picks up from where the first movie left off. It continues Lightning's journey to find himself as he gets older and harmonizes with the first films story and characters really well. It's very good.
    SUMMARY: Cars and Cars 3 are the official films in the Cars franchise following the same story, while Cars 2 was a failed attempt to turn the franchise into something it wasn't. It's kind of like The Incredible Hulk in the MCU timeline.
    Hope this was insightful!

Specifically, Planes Fire and Rescue (I think the first one had some story quality issues they were able to fix by the sequel.) But your point is valid. I’m actually kind of mad that I didn’t watch this movie sooner (or at Schafrillas Productions for LYING to me that it had nothing to say when it CLEARLY DOES), because Cars 3 was ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING I wanted it to be and so much more! In my opinion, Cars 3 TRULY WAS Pixar’s last NEAR-PERFECT sequel, and if Pixar WAS actually capable of creating at least ONE great sequel in the last decade (2013-2023) that GENUINELY FELT like a PROPER CONTINUATION of a VERY UNDERRATED franchise with a much more serious and darker tone than its predecessors……………………………….….. Then part of me IS still willing to give Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5 an HONEST CHANCE to impress me once they finally come out! Here’s hoping they’re BOTH just as SPECTACULAR as Cars 3 (if not MORE)!

    I don’t know if you can still do it now (I don’t think so) but there were races like f1 that allowed you to switch cars. However, depending on which series it is, it would be up to the discretion of the race officials. The original car would need to be sufficiently damaged beyond repair and dangerous to proceed.
    It’s removed in most racing series due to costs as the spare car would need to be the exact same, right down to the configuration and usually have their own crew.

    12:10 that was not the windows one, but the reference to WALL-E movie.
    Whenever this Pixar character (WALL-E) has his battery fully charged, his soundboard made that sound, so archaic, but yet so familiar.

    I remember being so hyped for this back in 2017 all the extended looks & trailers hyped me up for this movie
    I finally saw it in theaters with my dad
    And oh my god it was worth the wait
    As a diehard NASCAR fan Pixar nailed the different generations of racers and the cars actually look like that in real life now well close to the movie counterparts
    It’s like Pixar was telling us this was going to happen in the future and now it has happened
    Also this movie did tear me up when the lightning & doc scenes happened 😭
    I still get the feels every time watching it
    I love this movie and to me it is the true sequel to the first film Pixar knew they messed up with cars 2 and they absolutely made up for it
    (Btw cars 2 isn’t bad imo it’s just ok)

    Cars 2 was just to sell Mator toys. I'd say it was a money grabber if anything, the game did well though. Cars 3 was certainly well done, learning that you can enjoy teaching someone what you're passionate about is just a beautiful thing.
