Doc is dead in Cars 2 because his voice actor, Paul Newman died in 2008.
George Carlin who voiced Fillmore in the original died three months before Newman.
Fillmore’s voice was replaced and Doc Hudson’s voice remained the same.

I like it as well, but honestly I think I understand. It was a good effort to expand on the worldbuilding of its predecessor and create some new ideas and possibilities, but that came at the expense of a few bits and pieces that made the original so iconic. Also, its overall message about being yourself was not really expressed in the best of ways.
Same. I thought it was awful as a kid. Which was disappointing since Cars is my favorite Pixar movie. But I recently rewatched it and honestly it's not that bad. I wouldn't say it's great, but it's definitely entertaining.

If you wondering why Doc is not in this film is because the actor who voices Doc passed away 2 years after the first movie.

Unfortunately yes 😢 and in the promotional art in the form of comic books that depicts her what happened in between Cars 1 and Cars 2 it shows doc Hudson's grave showing that he passed away in 2011 such a shame and that's just the one fortunate. 😢😢😢😢😢

Since you asked, Paul Newman, the actor that played Doc Hudson, died of cancer a few years after the first movie was made. So that's why you see them refer to Doc like that at the beginning.
I know how a lot of people feel about this movie, but it’s my favorite out of the trilogy. Being the “awkward friend” or “weird friend” is pretty relatable.
You could even say that this movie itself is the awkward friend of Pixar movies. XD
This was the FIRST ever movie I saw in theaters, so it holds a special place in my heart. Also, the soundtrack SLAPS.

I used to love this movie so much as a kid. That opinion has changed now, but one thing about it I still love is Francesco Bernoulli. He's hilarious, a great rival, and during the London race, says exactly what we're all thinking. "WHAT IS HAPPENING!?"
Cars 2 focused on the wrong things. We wanted to see McQueen race and win. Not this James Bond stuff.

Nah that would've been too predictable. There's only 2 ways it could have gone: you start out losing and you find a way to win (Cars 1) or you start out winning, lose, and then try to win it back (Cars 3)....that's it for racing related movies. If McQueen always races and wins then there's no new plot (the cliche character development already took place in Cars1) so Cars 2 would still be the most hated of the trio. Non-car people would find all the racing boring after a while...continuity-wise it may not have been the greatest but it was fun action for the audience...esp kids who don't really care besides the fact that Mater's the goat.

Cars 2 had the best videogame. The arena mode where you use various weapons against your friends to win is such a blast

I heard like a year or two ago that most people don't like this movie, which was news to me. Even though I'd agree that the first one is probably a better written movie, I personally enjoy this one the most in the series, and I've rewatched this one way more than the other two
I couldn’t have said it any better myself. Yeah the first one is better written but I enjoy this one the most all around.
I can't believe it came out in mid 2011, feels like a new Pixar movie.
the biggest problem i had with this movie is that it felt more like a spinoff rather than a sequel.. but i'm glad that you at least enjoyed it! (which definitely is a plus if mator is your favourite character cuz it does feel more like mator's movie).
with that being said, if you like this one you'll definitely like the third one too! they went back to their roots (vibe wise) similar with what they did in the first movie.. speaking for someone who doesn't like the second one all that much, i think the third one is good redemption..

I actually really love cars 2. More than the first movie
The scene where they talk about Doc Hudson hints strongly that he have passed away in-between the movies. It's an homage/obituary to Doc Hudson's voice actor Paul Newman passed away in 2008, two years after Cars (which was his last movie before his death) and John Lasseter wanted to honor Newman rather than re-cast the role.
Funny that she's reacting to Cars 2 after having reacted to Kingsman 2.

This hit differently than the first movie, but it makes sense to change things up and maybe focus on someone new, like Mater. More of the same tends be why a lot of sequel fumble.

Some of my best friends didn’t understand why I love Cars until one day I came home with a NASCAR game and they were mystified at the realization that I enjoy NASCAR and part of why I love the movies lol it also raised more questions than it answered 🤣🤣🤣
My mom lived and still lives far from me, when i was young, she would bring her laptop with her when she visited us. That laptop had this movie on it. Every time she would visit i would watch this movie from start to finish on repeat. Its one of my favourite movies to this day, and i just learned that people hate it. Makes me feel good that i grew up with this movie but im sad cuz everyone hates my childhood. I remember coming home from the dvd rental store (yes) and watching the first Cars for the first time. I then became an addict. My mom had a cars game on her phone to keep me busy (button phone btw (yes)). i even had cars toys, my dad bought me this awesome matter toy! My mom even downloaded the life is a highway song. I never fully saw Cars 3 from start to finish and it hurts me but im still happy these movies existed. Planes was a good spin-off to the series. Though forgettable. Kappa.
It's my favourite of the trilogy and I also only recently found out about its hate. I love the spies and action and stuff, ppl just hate it because it doesn't fit with the first movie but I think it's great.
Cars 2 is actually considered the worst Pixar movie after Lightyear.

Next one you check out should be the 2004 Van Helsing movie. A fantastic blockbuster of my childhood! It was my first PG-13 movie I ever saw without my parents permission!
Feels more like a spinoff than a sequel
As much as I enjoyed the soundtrack by Michael Giacchino, the performances and inclusions of Michael Caine (Finn McMissle), Emily Mortimer (Holley Shiftwell), and John Turturro (Francesco), and the character of Mater, I feel that Mater kind of took much of the attention away from Lightning McQueen in the sequel and made him the main character, and the fact that it takes the Spy trope where the "unlikely hero becomes a Spy" takes away the message of the first and third film, along with the fact there we’re so many Antagonists in this film with Miles Axelrod being the true evil mastermind and leader instead of Professor Z (who I still consider to be more of an evil leader and mastermind than Axelrod) was like a WTF.
I know there are some folks that still enjoyed this film and that’s okay, it’s your opinion to enjoy _Cars 2_ with a few saying _Lightyear_ as Pixar’s "worst film", but in my opinion, I consider _Cars 2_ to be Pixar’s weakest and worst film and literally the film was a turning point for Pixar that the studio wasn’t invincible with having all of their films gaining critical acclaim, so it took them a while to regain their footing again on making critically acclaimed films until _Inside Out_ was released 4 years later. Yes, we had _Brave_ and _Monster’s University_ released after _Cars 2_ and those films had better critical reception than _Cars 2_ but not the same level of Critical Acclaim compared to Pixar’s other films released before _Cars 2_ (e.g. _Toy Story 1-3, A Bugs Life, Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall•E, Up)_
, you can tell (from his accent) the professor is supposed to be some evil German nazi scientist. Which makes him very intimidating
A lot of people hate this movie, but it’s actually one of my favorite Pixar films. I do hope you'll watch Cars 3 and maybe Planes as well if you're interested. Cars 2, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, and Inside Out are among my favorite Pixar films. Great reaction as always. Looking forward to the next one!

You think this is crazy, the spinoff movie Planes actually features a full fledged WWII battle in it. One of the characters is an F4U Corsair, a fighter aircraft used widely in the Pacific by the Navy and Marines.
I saw this movie in theaters on a Disney cruise celebrating my birthday. It came out in the middle of the week when we were on the ship so they put a big screen on the stage of the opera hall to allow for more seats than any of the actual movie theater rooms had.
The way I see this movie is like how people go from Acceleracers to Battle Force 5. Same general brand (hotwheels) but two completely different shows and I love both (I grew up on Battle Force 5 ok and found acceleracers later).
Fun fact: what we know as Wasabi isn't actually Wasabi at all. It's just horseradish and ginger dyed green.
The spies probably didn't know Mater wasn't spy because it was supposed to be American spy and well.. Mater is basically a "stereotypic" american countryside guy, so they kind of assumed he was him.
Not the best in the franchise but I do think it gets a little too much hate. I just wish it was titled a little differently so it doesn’t sound like it’s directly tied to the first and third. It would still make a good seperate movie
I really loved Cars 2 when I was a kid,in fact at that time I liked it even more than the original Cars. But growing up,I realized that Cars 1 has a special place in my heart and I could just go back and revisit it anytime I want. Cars 3 though,I watched it on the day released and oh man I felt so satisfied,I felt they done right and made the finishing of the franchise so good. So I highly recommend Angeline to also watch Cars 3

It is, It is entirely a new concept when compared to the other two. This movie was way ahead of it's time, just hear the sound effects, music and the Animation. It's really advanced. I feel like this should have been Cars 3.

Meh, I think it's pretty alright. It's overhated tbh but I think the reason for the hate is the pure focus on Mater instead of McQueen. That and the sudden out of place super spy scenario. In my opinion the 3rd one is still the best out of them all though. Reminds me of a Rocky Balboa-esque story a lot

This movie is my major guilty pleasure. I ADORED it as a child (not as much now) since I loved Cars, Spies and how dark the story was. Also all the side characters were fun.
(Off note you should watch Planes, I hallucinated that movie to be way different than it actually was as a kid)

True story: I actually began to start learning and understanding the “be yourself, don’t let others change who you are” lesson more deeply with this film! Yes it’s nothing revolutionary, and the execution is kinda standard, (it’s not really any different from billions of other children’s media with the same general lesson/moral/theme/etc.) HOWEVER…when McQueen properly apologized to Mater and reassured him that he can be himself, it took a few watches, but it clicked for me! And combining that with other similar and slightly different lessons in various media and life experiences I thankfully didn’t take this lesson TOO literally. (Like, obviously you shouldn’t try to be anyone or anything other than who you are, and you shouldn’t ask your friends or family to be different from who they are either. But there’s a difference between accepting yourself and others as who they are, and just ignoring and allowing yourself and others to misbehave, and actually be disrespectful and stuff. (Also, a lot of people want to better themselves at stuff like, quitting bad habits, improving at certain activities and hobbies, and learning new things! But I think the core is that even if you want or have to change things about yourself, whatever it is, you shouldn’t abandon who you are at the end of the day! Or if you really are acting rude, like McQueen, you should work on bettering yourself as a person, and keep fostering that goodness inside you!)

9:49 if I was to remake this scene, I’d have oil dripping from his grill, eyes, doors, fenders, exhaust, and have him cough up some oil and other various car fluids, like radiator fluid, which I heard is green, and break fluid, which…is actually red…which means I might have that just drip from his break calipers. Also, I might show cracks forming on his windows, and his eyes turning red.
And finally…for the explosion, I’d still censor it, but I’d add some oil splatters on the screen. (Then again, that might make it even darker than it already would be! 😖)

I have another movie reaction request for you: do “Chicken Run” next. Not “Chicken Little”, don’t get those titles confused. “Chicken Little” was a Disney movie that I’m not a huge fan of but it’s based off a fable that has aliens in it. But “Chicken RUN” on the other hand, it’s a DreamWorks/Aardman Animations movie that’s basically like a prison break movie about a group of farm chickens trying to escape from their chicken coop with the help of an American rooster named Rocky Rhodes, played by Mel Gibson, before the chickens are being cooked as chicken pot pies. So it’s a more of a classic film that is like a comedic homage to the movie “The Great Escape”. Plus, it’s one of my childhood favorite movies of all time, and it still is one of my favorites to this very day! The animation still holds up, the characters are very memorable, the action sequences are a ton of fun, the orchestral score by both John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams was amazing, who also composed the score for the first “Shrek” movie a year later, and the story I thought was really good! You would love it, Ange! It’s such a great animated movie!

You need to see the PLANES series which is just or even funnier.
So as someone that enjoys Cars, this movie was a cringeworthy experience to deal with… the fact that not only the spies themselves were dumb enough to mistake Mater as their messenger or whatever, but this spy plot, while cool (and maybe with a couple of rewrites to be actually good) took too much time away from McQueen’s growth of racing. Oh and having Mater being the main star was the major factor… he was WAY better in the first film because he was used at the right times and not 24/7 ☠️
If she is wondering the topic of this movie to make it more understandable, it’s basically a spy movie.
