Your videos have been super helpful for me the last 4 years since I started bassoon. I buy my reeds from my teacher but I really want to start making my own reeds. But I don't know where to start as far as tools go. There are so many options out there it's just overwhelming 🤯
That's great news. You have to let me know how this new technique is for you. If the wire still breaks it might be worth trying wire from a different company that is softer? Just a thought. Happy Bassooning!
I Want to become a music major for Music performance and for that I would need my own bassoon but they're expensive are there any scholarships or a way I can earn one
Hi Kevin- I can sympathize. Bassoons are so expensive. You might consider checking into the schools you are interested in. I know at JSU (where I teach) we have several bassoons that are owned by the school that we have students use during their degree program. Not all schools have instruments available but it might help you to choose a school that does! I hope this helps get you started.
This method results in what I term "left-hand" twists, so that we use an un-screwing movement with the pliers to tighten the wire knot. I prefer to twist the other way. How many viewers use left-hand twists and how many use right-hand twists?
This is a great question. I have always done right over left with counter clockwise turns. It would be interesting to get a feel for the global perspective and differences! Thanks for asking our friends!
Yes, I have an album and a set of singles on wherever you like to stream you music (iTunes, Spotify, etc). There are also several videos online of me performing. th-cam.com/video/N38iRRVSUAU/w-d-xo.html
Keep trying. We've all been there! Remember that it gets easier and the reeds get better as you keep working at it you develop what works for YOU! Best to you.
As a beginning reed maker this just works for me. Thank You (all)!

Love your videos , hope you upload some new ones soon!
Thank you. I will see what I can do. I was thinking of moving to Tik Tok for quick shorts until I get my TH-cam back full force. Thoughts?
Yes, that’s a good idea to just make short little clips instead of a full video until you upload more on TH-cam would be awesome.
Omg so excited for more bassoon videos! We need an updated bassoon reed making video. Thanks!
You’re right! Those take a bit more time to film. Will put it on the calendar. Thanks for the request!
This is awesome. I tried it this week and LOVE IT!
I love this! That is what this channel is all about. Made my day! :)
Thanks for the tip.
when can I see your new video! I'm sorry for late finding your video, you really inspire a lot!!
The few times I have tried to adjust bassoon reed wires, they break. This video has given me new confidence, thanks!

Your videos are really interesting, but there is actually a video where we can hear you playing? You made real "hype" with all these videos

The reeds I make sound like I'm using the pencil, alas...
