    WOW! Let me say, this is an awesome video. Sooooooo well done. Clear camera work, good sound, smooth, concise narration, no obnoxious music. Enough material covered to do this job as a DIYer. THANKS! This is an A1 video,,,,or should I say 1A.

    Great video - thorough explanation of each step, harder to do under the vehicle at home but good trail guide!

    Excellent information. You gave me exactly what I was needing to know for my 2007. The secondary is actually a resonator, not a cat. What's interesting is on the cat I do have, there are two O2 sensors located within a foot or two of each other, which I find strange. And cant locate any other o2 sensors on the exhaust anywhere. I guess it's just those two, one for up stream one for down, I would guess. Makes it difficult to test with an infrared thermometer though.

    Thanks for showing us this! A tip for removing the back part of the system by yourself: use a ratcheting strap connected to hard points on the back side of the rear suspension to hold the system in place while you disconnect the rubber hangers.
    Where did the system you put on come from?

    • @wschmokel
      @wschmokel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice tip. Again where did the replacement system come from because I can not find that kit on 1AA web site for the same vehicle in your video.

    Of course none of this works in real life situations where you have rusted nearly welded corroded bolts where no rust penetrant is useful

    • @acmotifs
      @acmotifs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Use a benzo heat torch, hammer around the area, then use extractors from harbor freight (they grip better than normal hex sockets).

    • @CenterTree777
      @CenterTree777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      True. This is a great video for instruction. In reality, you will need a gallon or penetrating oil, a grinder, hacksaw, goggles, band aids, for your bloody knuckles, lots of BEER and make sure to keep all young children away so their ears don't burn from all the cursing you WILL be doing. LOL. I had to do this job in my gravel driveway, during the rain, with cor on jack stands... talk about PAINFUL!

    When the car is lowered the suspension will bring the bumper up? LOL

  • @charleslenfest1204
    @charleslenfest1204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The muffler shield has corroded through the two recessed bolts which are terribly rusted onto the mount. All attempts to remove is starting to twist the brackets that are spot welded to the undercarriage. I am afraid that I will break them if I twist any harder. Any suggestions beside heat and penetrant? Sort of worried about using a torch that close to the fuel tank to heat the bolts.

    At the 0:36 mark those are obviously newer nuts/washers. Otherwise, great video as usual.

    Looks to be a good sturdy system but why those big rear mufflers.

  • @BHaylett
    @BHaylett 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The suspension will certainly not bring the bumper up that exhaust is going to be right up in there forever unfortunatly

    Can you use any of the heat shielding from the original catalytic converter to cover the aftermarket one?

    • @DanCooz323
      @DanCooz323 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pipe that went on was what's referred to as an "air gap pipe", basically 2 pipes, one inside the other. The outer one acts as a heat shield, so the factory ones aren't necessary.

  • @olds1964
    @olds1964 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The reason the muffler doesn't clear is because it's a muffler for the Legacy wagon, not the Outback. The exhaust tip is straight on the Legacy and curved on the Outback, to fit each car's bumper cut-outs. You used the wrong part. Otherwise good video.

      +oespo oespo19 Thanks for watching! The only piece of exhaust we carry for that vehicle would be the front pipe with converter. It will only fit on 2.5L non-turbo models. Here is a link: www.1aauto.com/subaru-saab-front-exhaust-pipe-with-catalytic-converter/i/1accd00279?f=655045&y=2009

      +jingli Green I strongly recommend that you have a reputable mechanic inspect it and see if that is possible. They’ll be able to troubleshoot the problem and tell you what part or parts you’ll need for the repair. Typically, you cannot do this as it comes as a complete unit.
